"Mara's fine, mate - there's no shorter way to do it." She took the extended hand and shook it. The energies in the room were beginning to affect her, and a warm feeling began to pool at the back of her neck. Someone's angry... why? And it's making me feel... oh...shit....
Mara pulled her hand away suddenly and took a deep breath. "Sorry - not you. Feeling...strange." She shook her head, putting her bo case down against the wall quickly. She stilled the trembling in her arms while she faced the wall, and turned back to the room, her eyes now flecking gold - she was unaware of it.

Nate didn't flinch when she pulled away. He'd worked with werewolves long enough to know that they couldn't always be held accountable for their actions. She wasn't 'lashing out' or being rude. Cole had mentioned she'd only been turned for a year; it had to be difficult... not that he knew that first-hand.
When she turned back, he recognised the lupine flecks of gold in her eyes, and looked to Cole. Wondering what had brought on the sudden shift, he glanced briefly to Sissy and Cassidy, before looking down at Brock. The husky whined, and dropped his head a little, as if asking the stranger what was wrong.

The older werewolf detected the shift in Mara before she pulled back, just faintly. He lifted a hand just slightly, subtly, to Nate and the females in the room. Cassidy had tensed very slightly in her seat, as if wary of the newcomer and what she might do, especially given that not everyone in the room had a rapid healing factor.
If he had to guess, he would assume that Mara's empathy had kicked in, but what was it reacting to? He glanced to the females in the room, given that Nate had little reason to be afraid of Mara. Was it Cassidy or Sissy making Mara uncomfortable?
Deciding against mentioning it, he looked to the empathic werewolf, asking with a suitable degree of compassion, "Everything all right?" He saw the gold in her eyes, but knew she wouldn't be able to control that; hell, he was centuries old, and sometimes he couldn't control something so 'simple'.

Mara felt her face turn red. She knelt quickly to the pup and smiled at it, hoping against hope that it wouldn't lash at her. To her infinite relief he leapt at her and licked her face, making her laugh. That was enough to bring her heart rate down a few steps. She patted him, letting the wonderful puppy love wash over her - it soothed the unsettled feeling and she was able to calm down. That was so close.
Standing slowly, Brock leaning against her leg for scratches, she gave a halfhearted smile. "Sorry, yes - I'm ok. For now. I think it's just all the new people." I don't know if I've offended someone, but the doctor's good looking - maybe I was treading on someone's territory. God only knows I'm not looking for anything like that. She smiled and quipped. "I've always been nervous around doctors too, anyway." When Brock leaned against her, objecting to the slowing of her scratching she grinned down at him. "What a little love you are."

"Brock has that effect on people," Nate commented in a relaxed manner, smiling down at his pet dog, who let his tongue hang out in delight at having a new friend. "I think even cats like this dog," he quipped, drawing a chuckle from Cole, and from Cassidy too.
Brock gave a cheerful yip of a bark, and Nate rolled his eyes. "I think you've made his day," he told Mara. There was nothing the husky liked more than making new friends and playmates. It seemed he'd found another one.

Like most of the others in the pack, Dia had sensed when Cole and the other returned, an unfamiliar scent along with them. By this point she’d had more than enough time to finish her bout of training and get cleaned up. And now she was following her senses to her mate and their newcomer.
“Looks like Kyle’s off the hook, then,” she said, lips falling into a hint of a smirk she entered the Music Room, giving Nate and the others a nod of acknowledgment. Brock perked up a bit at another person being in the room and she smiled at the canine, giving him a quick scratch on the head.

Sissy stood and stretched, book and trail mix still in hand. She had noticed the sudden change in Mara, but didn't know exactly what it was about, though she had been just a tad bit preoccupied to really pay attetntion. The wolf was still agitated, though, so most of her concentration was on dealing with that and trying not to look like she had completely zoned out on the conversation. Oh, just shut up already. You're likely to drive me mad acting like this.

Glancing over his shoulder as Dia entered the room, Cole smiled at his mate, and then looked back to Mara. Meeting his fellow alpha's eyes again, he said in response to her quip, "Guess he is. He didn't say a word the entire time, but I guess that's no shocker." He offered Dia a brief, but meaningful grin.
"Mara, this is Dia Mantenega," he introduced, glancing from one to the other. "Dia, meet Mara Harper."

Mara nodded to the new person, feeling a sensation very similar to the one she'd felt when she first met Cole. Looking from Cole to the new person once briefly, she knew at once that they were partners. The ease that one gets when one is with a longtime partner is easy to see, and she felt a pang that was bittersweet. Someday I might be happy again like that too...but to trust someone again... "Lot's of people in this place, Cole. I reckon it'll be a bit before I've got everyone straight." Her Australian accent sounded strange in the room.
Crossing her arms across herself, partly to hide the still faint trembling and partly to keep herself centered, she didn't see her sleeve pulling up to expose the wound on her arm.

“I’d be surprised if he had done any differently,” she replied, smiling warmly at Cole before turning her attention to Mara, extending a hand as they were introduced.
“You’ll pick it up in time.” Especially if she did end up staying with the pack. “I’m sure the others will start coming out of the woodwork soon enough, but I highly doubt anyone will be upset with you if you forget a name or two.” Knowing the curiosity this bunch had, more than a few would probably seek Mara out on their own at some point. It wasn’t every day the pack got a new member, after all.
As Mara shifted, Dia’s eyes fell on the wound in her arm. “Did you have Nate look at that?” Taking into account the pack’s doctor was already in the room, and that Cole probably would have addressed the injury if he knew it was there as well the answer was probably yes, but it was in Dia’s nature to enquire anyway, just for her own piece of mind.

At Dia's question, the doctor followed the Alpha female's gaze, and saw the wound. His brow furrowed, and he cocked his head a little, narrowing his eyes as he inspected from where he stood.
"Can I...?" he inquired softly, moving a little closer, and indicating her arm, glancing briefly to Cole and Dia, as if waiting for some sign that he shouldn't push proximity on Mara; when he received none, he turned his eyes back to the newcomer, and waited for a response.

She started at Dia's question, unaware that it had been shown. When the doctor approached, she held back a flinch - mostly because the area was still tender. "I guess so - I got it the day before I - " she glanced briefly at Cole, wondering how much this group knew about her - "...started my gallery showing," she finished, faintly. "it's been more than a fortnight, and it won't heal. Not sure why not - especially when I broke a wine glass earlier and the shards didn't even nick me." She met Cole's eyes briefly and smiled a little.
Gritting her teeth, she extended her arm to the doctor - she'd extended her trust to Cole, and he trusted this man, so he must be ok.

“Healing factor comes in handy sometimes,” she commented, watching Nate examine Mara’s wound. “It’s silver probably. Or something with silver in it. Do you know you got it?”

The wolf actually snarled at the thought of Nate being so close to Mara and it was all Sissy could do to keep herself from telling it to shut up out loud. Her wolf was usually fairly well tempered about things, but this seemed to be too much. Oh, honestly. If you don't stop acting like he's your mate, I'm walking out of the room. Is that understood? The wolf knew Sissy was bluffing, but it quieted down anyway. There was no way Sissy would leave the room of her own accord as long as Nate was still there, something they both knew full well. Bluffing to the wolf never worked.

Mara's empathy was stronger than ever when it was closer to the moon - she'd told Cole as much earlier, and the energy in the room as Nate reached to touch her wound shifted to such anger that she felt her conciousness begin to slip. Even though it was gone as quickly as it had started, Mara knew her control was slipping. Rage was the one emotion her wolf would not be denied, and it slipped out into her mind, wanting to answer the unspoken challenge with it's own disdain at being wrongly judged.
"Don't touch me! Get away!" Her upper lip curled up in a snarl, and she gave a choked cry. "Anger. It's angry. Someone's angry. I can't handle anger. Moon. Please... help me..." she backed away from Nate as fast as she could, putting her hands up - they shook violently.
