“Gotcha, Boss.” Irina saluted Cole with a grin – wholly inappropriate of course, but the rambunctious fighter had about as much tact as a wrecking ball on a good day – before she nodded towards the stairs after catching the redhead’s eye in order to silently say that was the way they were going. In all honesty she’d had bad experiences with elevators in the human world in the past, it wasn’t he fault that the little old lady had almost had a heart attack the last time she’d been in one, if the small woman hadn’t been staring at her and subconsciously challenging her violent wolfen side then there wouldn’t have been a problem. Frankly she’d been lucky that Irina hadn’t changed and brought the whole elevator car crashing down. In any case, nowadays she tended to opt for the stairs.
Natasha and Irina took the stairs two and three at a time, the older female had made sure she got a good hold on the newly turned wolf’s scent so that she could lead the way and find his apartment, hoping that he didn’t do a whole lot of visiting with his neighbours that would lead them all around the place. Soon enough they found what had to be his apartment, the scent was strongest there, puddle against the door and on the carpet. Without standing on ceremony they broke in. Natasha took her jacket off and handed it to Irina who wrapped it around the door handle to muffle the sharp sound of the lock breaking. As the redhead shrugged the leather garment back onto her lean shoulder, the brunette reached into the gap for the door and with a sharp tug the chain came clean out of the wall and in they went.
Zodiac wasn’t hard to find. With wide eyes the black dog shrank back from Irina once the two wolves happened upon the canine, she made a face narrated by a low ‘oops’ under her breath. Natasha smiled blandly and moved forwards, a much calmer wolf she didn’t put out quite the same type of intense, feral energy that Irina did.
“It’s okay girl.” Natasha’s voice was low and mellow and she held out a hand for the dog to smell. She smiled without baring her teeth and after a moment the dog seemed to relax a little, enough at least for Natasha to move forwards smoothly and scoop her up into her arms. That was that. They started back the way they had come, Irina replaced the door in the jamb as carefully as she could, it didn’t look like it had been broken into and for now that was all that mattered, they needed time to get away from here with the injured man downstairs without anyone alerting the authorities. Natasha as already in the stairwell when Irina turned around and she walked calmly after her. Well, as calmly as she ever walked, nothing could negate the feral swing and sway of her hips and the roll of her shoulders.
When they returned to the lobby Zodiac whined softly in Natasha’s arms, but the redhead shifted her fingers soothing through the black fur and the animal quieted a little.
Irina swaggered up to the younger fighter’s side and nodded to Cole with an obvious dip of her head blended in there. “So, Nattie’s the Dog Whisperer. Who knew?” Again the slightly monstrous grin graced her features, she looked at Archie briefly, hopefully he wouldn’t think that she was debating whether or not to eat him alive.

Cole kept his attention on the new wolf -- it was always a kind of strange irony, he thought, that he was so old and yet he looked so much younger than so many other werewolves in the city of Los Angeles; he had often wondered just how many strangers would be able to pick him out of a group of his pack as the Alpha by sight alone -- as he responded to Marion. “I won’t know until he regains consciousness. It could be tomorrow, it could be a week, maybe more.” It varied for each new wolf as the fighters with him knew, they had all seen this several times over the years; some newcomers to the pack calmed much quicker than others, some remained unpredictable and therefore dangerous for days, perhaps weeks.
After the Alpha had finished speaking, Nate responded to Mara, saying pleasantly but matter-of-factly, focused on his work, “Not all dogs are as weird as Brock.” He smiled briefly. “I was shocked when he reacted so well to werewolves, to be honest. You guys tend to intimidate dogs most of the time.” Coming from anyone else, that ‘you guys’ might have seemed ignorant, or even rude, but with Nate it was anything but. The doctor went right back to his work as if he had never even shifted his attention in the first place.
Turning his head to glance at Irina and Natasha, Cole gave a quiet laugh that he somehow kept from being inappropriate given their current surroundings and the new wolf’s condition. “Didn’t I tell you she was a woman of many talents?” He offered both she-wolves a smile and then took in a breath, returning his attention to Nate. “Is he safe to move? We need to get back as soon as possible.”
Slipping his stethoscope over his head and around the back of his neck once again, Nate pondered for a moment and then nodded. “Now’s as good a time as any. He’s unconscious, so he won’t feel any pain, we might as well take advantage of that.”
At that, it was Cole’s turn to nod and signalled to Kennedy to head out and start up the main car outside, one of the bigger pack vehicles; they would be able to transport Owen easier in a bigger vehicle without running the risk of causing him any further harm. With that, he looked to Marion after casting a glance back at her new assistant. “We brought three cars. We have room if you want to tag along.” That said, Cole looked to the unaware male on the couch and then made short work of picking him up from where he had slouched against the cushions in order to carry him out to the car.

Marion's mind began working. She was concerned about Archie's mental (and physical, after catching a glimpse of how pale his face was) state, and she'd also just dumped a great big mess into his lap. Did she throw him to the deep end immediately, or did she let him assess things from here? She decided that if he was as detailed oriented as he seemed, the more information provided would help help to make a decision... but that would have to be up to Cole.
"I'd like to come. And I think it would benefit Archie to join me. He was just hired, and while this is hardly a normal night for me, he should probably see who it is I really do work for." Her tone was wry, though her eyes were warm. She grabbed her purse and slung her work bag over her shoulder. "If two of you could please move that couch into the side room there, just in case the cleaners come in earlier this week - we don't want to explain a blood stained couch - I can bolt the door and they'll not see it. I'll just buy a new one."

Wait, now he should go with them? Archie wasn’t quite sure what to make of that, yet another confusing piece joining the rest of the jumble that was tonight. Nothing he had seen or heard made any sense against what – admittedly – little he knew. The young paralegal of just twenty-four hours ago would have stared in shock and disbelief at the paralegal he was now; it wasn’t every day someone dropped near dead in front of you and instead of following the rule book, you clean up the blood and trust one complete stranger into the hands of a whole group of complete strangers. He had no idea how he was going to describe his day to Emily.
Of course, Marion, while not a complete stranger was still a stranger but he’d put his trust in her and so far they hadn’t wound up doing anything technically illegal. If Owen – when Owen – pulled through, if he chose not to press charges or even file a police report, then all Archie had done was clean up a mess and that was the sort of thing he was good at. Ignoring all the confusion about what had actually happened here tonight, going with them, meant going with the dark haired woman who kept looking at him with what was quite possibly the scariest expression Archie had ever seen directed at himself.
She was one person he never wanted to meet in a darkened alley.
Archie had made the choice however, made it long before actually leaving had come up, he’d made it when he was cleaning away the bloodstains, or even before when he had called a private number instead of a hospital. Whatever this was, whatever would happen, Archie would stick it through to the end, moving to stand next to his new boss. Hopefully a good end.

Marion watched Archie thinking, but her years of reading people showed her he'd made his decision, and her heart slowed with relief. She'd guessed right with this one. She moved to his side and placed an arm hesitantly around his shoulders for a moment, giving him a squeeze, then letting her arm fall. "I promise you Archie, I'll explain. You can make your choice later, but I hope you'll trust me just a little longer until then. And maybe stick around anyway.."
Her teeth gritted, she waited for Cole's direction of which set of wolves to join. Mara met her eyes and smiled quietly, Marion trying to smile back, but the smell of blood in the room coupled with old coffee and Archie's cleaning supplies was making her stomach roll.
... surely she could get some chocolate at the hotel when they arrived...

Seeing that grin that was being thrown in Archie’s direction, Cole rolled his eyes in what the pack would know to be a good-natured manner. For those like the young human, it might not have been so obvious that it was bordering on paternal as he went on to say, “Irina, tone it down.” A hint of a smile touched his face after that, but it was gone as he checked around to see who was still in the room. With a nod towards the doors, those fighters present began to file out; Kyle and Kai had made short work of moving Marion’s couch into the indicated room for her and they, along with the others, made their way towards the exit and in turn the vehicles. Cole spared a glance for Dia before his mate headed out to wait by the cars with the others.
His gaze landed on Marion and Archie once again. There were wolves in the world who distanced themselves from humans, cut themselves off from the mortal world entirely, and while that was only natural and understandable for those who had been born into their lycanthropy, Cole found he couldn’t understand it, not now, not when there were people like the lawyer and the paralegal, people like Nate, humans who accepted the supernatural so calmly, with grace and composure.
With little more than a nod for the two legally-minded humans standing not far away, Cole moved out of the room with the young wounded wolf in his arms and Nate falling easily into stride at his back.
