"Very good timing," Elle told him. At that moment she really wanted to preserve the quiet of this space they had found, created together. It was nice. It felt rare, for both of them. So she stood with him, gazing out the wall, moving her arms so that they were a little more comfortable, settled around his waist, her fingers linked at the small of his back. It felt so right to be standing there with him, close, embracing practically. Élodie felt safe in his arms, safe was a feeling that was very precious to her.
Elle turned her face to look at him again,. "Just try not to wait so long before kissing me again," she said with a teasing smile. "If you're planning on making a habit out of it."

It wasn't often that Chris got to enjoy quiet moments like this, truly peaceful moments where everything seemed to be where it belonged, all the pieces in the right place. It was rare, something to be treasured, as despite the fact that he knew they couldn't very well stay there all night he was determined to enjoy it while it lasted. They deserved that much, didn't they? That was what Chris believed and he suspected Elle thought the same. They couldn't stay here forever but they could spend a little while longer in one another's arms at least.
"Oh, I am," he said with a smile that was very clearly amused. "And don't worry," he went on, "I won't." With that he bowed to kiss her again, seeing no reason not to. Knowing that she was as comfortable with it as he was, Chris saw no reason not to make a habit out of this, not just kissing her but holding her close and making sure she understood how much he cared about her.

For the time being Elle had nowhere pressing to be, it wasn't overly late. They had time to stay where they were for a while and she was more than happy to do that. It had started off as a chance to show someone she cared about and considered one of her closest friends a place that meant a lot to her and it had become something else, it had turned the hotel into something else, something more.
Élodie smiled as he kissed her again, she couldn't really help it. A moment later and she was kissing him back in earnest, wanting this night to be a new beginning.

Right now Chris couldn't even remember if he was due to work in the morning, it didn't even register in his mind as important information and so had been shoved somewhere to the back. If he did then it wouldn't be the first -- or last -- time he worked on a minimal amount of sleep, that had long since stopped bothering or affecting him as it would most people, he'd gone whole nights without getting any sleep at all and worked a whole twelve hour shift on a combination of sheer determination and strong coffee.
It wasn't a long kiss but it was a comfortable one, it already felt familiar and reassuring, like an old habit revisited. It made him smile, a smile that was still on his face when he pulled back, lifting both hands to brush her hair back from her face properly. "I like it here," he said with a small nod, decisive. "It's official. This is one of my new favourite places."

That was a nice feeling, the way his hands smoothed her hair back. It felt rare to be so physically close to someone after such a long time alone but it didn't feel strange that it was Chris and when he did that it felt as though he'd done it a hundred times before somehow. Elle liked it, she liked the feel of his fingers on her cheeks, tucking behind her ears as he moved stray locks of blonde hair back.
"I think you might be biased," Élodie informed him kindly.

Chris had taken a chance, he couldn't even imagine how difficult it must be for someone like Elle to feel comfortable with someone being so physically close to them. Chris knew what she had been through, he'd been one of the officers assigned to her case, he'd known her all through everything that had followed. It was good to know that it was okay for him to do that, that she obviously trusted him enough to touch her, to brush her hair from her face, to lay his hands on her without asking for permission.
"Maybe a little," he admitted with a small laugh, his eyes narrowing with a little shrug of one shoulder. "Can you blame me?" he asked her then, eyes no longer narrowed, his brows lifting a little with the first traces of a teasing smile on his face.

For a long time taking time for herself had been about her work, taking time for herself had been about making a career for herself, carving out her life while she could; relationships were hard to fit into a schedule that was already crammed with so many other things, they had become basically irrelevant much to the consternation of her girl friends. It felt like it could be different with Chris. Élodie wanted it to be different with Chris, it felt so nice to be close with someone she trusted, closer now than they had been before. She was so glad he had taken the chance he had.
"I guess not," Elle said, moving her palms up his back a little way. "I hope it stays that way."

Chris would have to make more of an effort when it came to taking time for himself now, if he could spend that time with Élodie at least. He'd never taken time for himself because work had become the only real thing in his life, there was nothing else for him to do, nowhere to go and no one to see. He had friends of course, admittedly not many but still enough that they could be called a group that he could socialise with, but they had their own lives and their own obligations. Chris preferred not to put anyone out. With Elle though it wouldn't be like that, she was honest with him and if she spent time with him then it would be because she wanted to, because she enjoyed it, not because she felt as though she had to.
"Honestly?" It didn't need to be done but he liked the way it felt and so he brushed her hair back again. "I can't see it changing any time soon," he said with amusement and fondness in his voice. He felt her hands move up his back and it made his smile grow, it was a feeling he could get used to -- already was, even -- and one he hoped to feel regularly.
