The fact that there were no sounds of a fight kept Ananda from getting too worried, though she supposed that there was always the chance that it could escalate to that point. She most certainly hoped that it didn’t, but that possibility was always there. If it happened, she would be right there with Tariq, seeking out someone who could deal with the situation, but as long as things stayed as they were, she was content to stay where they were, though she knew that they would both be listening for any signs that the situation on the rooftop, whatever the situation actually was, might be on the verge of escalating into something where violence was involved, though not quite eavesdropping since, really, that was impolite and they both respected Dylan more than enough to keep themselves from doing such a thing.
“There's likely a way,” Ananda replied, after thinking it over for a moment. “I think that’s really the only way someone outside of the pack could get to the roof without being noticed well before they managed to get there.” There were very few ways to get up to the rooftop, she knew, and the only way she could think of to get up there without being noticed in one way or another was to scale the hotel. There were bound to be hand and footholds- or, at least, spots that could be used as such- that someone looking for them would be able to find and put to use. If that was what had happened, then Ananda agreed that something really did need to be done about it, since it seemed rather dangerous in its way.

Tariq realised he felt restless, and he knew why that was. It was instinctive for the wolf in him to feel disquieted by the prospect of an intruder on pack territory, even though he was not a fighter or a leader of any kind. It was only natural. Whoever it was up on the roof agitating Dylan to the point that he felt the need to raise his voice, they were not familiar, and therefore not welcome on a base, primal level. Tariq did not often give in to instinct such as what he was feeling now, but he could at least act in another way.
Still, there was a degree of hesitation in what he went on to say, his voice lowered as though he feared someone else overhearing and acting impulsively, "Perhaps we should tell someone." He looked down at his mate, and then back up towards the roof. Was it really their place to act when Dylan himself had not? Just moments ago, Tariq had been content to stay where he was and let things play out, but now he was unsure as to whether or not that was wise. What if their inaction led to some sort of attack on one of their own? What if, in remaining exactly where they were, a packmate, a member of their family, ended up hurt? Or worse? That did not sit right with him.

Though she had already been unsettled by the thought of some stranger having gotten access to the roof of their home, being able to sense her mate’s unease with the situation only added to it. She knew there was very little that they themselves could do about the situation, but there were options open to them should they chose to act upon them, something that she was wondering if they should do as each moment passed. The longer the stranger was there, the more time they would have to cause a very serious situation, and the thought of that didn’t sit well with her at all.
All the same, she felt hesitant as well. They weren’t meant to be overhearing even as much as they were, but there was still a stranger atop their home. “I think maybe we should,” she agreed, her voice lowered without her really registering the fact, almost as if she was instinctually attempting to make it as hard as possible for anyone to overhear as she could make it. “If it turns out to be harmless, then that’s fine. At least we won’t have just sit here while there was potentially something going on that could escalate. If it turns out to be a real situation, though…” Then at least something would have been done about it. Perhaps the fighter would be less than thrilled with them having called attention to the situation, but she honestly cared very little about that. He might have been one of the pack’s protectors, but he was still family, and family looked out for one another, whether they liked it or not.

There were not a great many things that could unsettle Tariq but the prospect of their home coming under attack was most certainly one of them. He could no sooner deny his fear of that coming to pass than he could deny his love for the woman nestled against him now. It was natural for any pack wolf to fear something like that, to dread harm coming to those they held dear, and it was just as natural, just as instinctive, to want to avert it by any means necessary. That was something else that did not come often to a pacifist male like Tariq, the urge to bare his teeth and show his wolfen nature to those who might prove dangerous to his pack, and more importantly, his mate, but he could feel it rising now.
That was when he heard the new voice from above. Now that he was straining to hear, he was catching more of what was going on above, even if making out words was difficult. "I can hear Irina," he said, looking down at his mate, able to hear the thread of relief in his own voice. There was no mistaking the female fighter's voice, or her fierce protective instinct; if anything was going on up on the roof, Irina would raise the alarm sooner than they could, and better yet, she would be able to hold her own against the stranger on the roof, whoever they were.

The only thing Ananda could think of that would have been worse than their home being attacked was Tariq himself coming under attack. She could think of no one who wouldn’t feel on edge and agitated over the knowledge that there was a stranger so close to their home, someone who could very well be intending to cause some sort of harm to their family should the opportunity present itself. Not every stranger was a threat, she knew that perfectly well, but when they were sneaking about, assuming they were a threat of some sort was only natural. If the opportunity had presented itself and they had felt that it was necessary, she knew that she and Tariq, as wonderfully non-violent as he normally was, would have jumped into a fight against the stranger without thinking very much about it, giving the most thought to making sure each other stayed safe.
When her mate stated that he heard Irina as well, Ananda gave a soft sigh of relief and listened, picking up the female’s voice as well. She would never doubt Tariq’s word, but hearing the fighter’s voice with her own ears helped her to relax and feel more at ease with the situation. Oh, there was still a stranger there and at least some unease would stay around as long as he did, but knowing that there was someone else on the roof would be able to handle the situation quickly and effectively, whatever she might have to do in order to do so, was a great relief. “She’ll take care of it.”

There would probably come a time when The Hyperion was wired and rigged with surveillance equipment of the technological sort, but as yet they relied upon their senses and the general awareness of those who called the hotel home. A pack was a cohesive unit, they worked together, and when one wolf sensed trouble it wasn't long before others were made aware of any potential danger. Tariq preferred that to whatever technologies the pack might come to use in the future, and personally he would be more comfortable without cameras and any other machines watching over them, but there might come a point when they had no choice, and it was just safer to conceded that sort of defeat.
Lifting one hand, Tariq gently brushed Ananda's hair back over her shoulder, before bending his head to press a kiss there. "Yes she will," he agreed softly, and his own relief was audible. Irina's presence on the roof along with Dylan's meant that they would not have to worry about any potential trouble, not unless the fighters showed signs -- or rather, gave audible signs -- that there was cause for concern. That was how Tariq preferred things, and with the responsibility that had been looming no longer pressing down on his shoulders, he felt much more himself again.

It really wouldn’t surprise her if their home was, one day, monitored by all the latest technology, but for her, it would always be just one more layer to the security rather than something to rely on. She would always rely on the senses and instincts of the pack above any sort of technology, but she supposed that there would be no harm in adding such things. That by no means meant that she liked the thought of cameras around the property, watching over them and anyone else who might show up, but it was something she imagined could at least help a little bit in keeping the pack safe. She would always prefer the old fashioned ways, but they would, eventually, move along with the times, she was sure.
She offered a little smile at the kiss and was extremely grateful that there was someone up on the roof who was more than capable of helping take care of a situation should one arise, because two fighters were always better than one. It allowed her to relax again, settling a bit more comfortably against Tariq. With Irina there to watch Dylan’s back, she wasn’t going to worry about what might be going on up on the roof unless there were signs that there might be something that needed to be worried about.

Even with countless cameras and other monitoring devices, there was just no replacing the awareness of a wolf. Wolves were deeply perceptive, and Cole's pack had an edge most others did not, in the form of those such as Nerys and Mara, gifted individuals who possessed an additional sort of awareness, extra senses almost. Tariq would never claim to understand their abilities, but he knew they sometimes -- frequently, in Nerys' case -- sensed things others did not, and that could prove to be invaluable.
The voices from above were no longer raised, and even when Tariq strained his ears he couldn't make out much of anything anymore. That put him at ease, and he felt himself relax, certain that Ananda would feel it as well, just as he could feel the same in her. "Well," he began, "we did say it was a little too quiet, didn't we?" Short-lived as the situation -- if one could even call it that -- had been, it certainly counted as excitement. If nothing else, it had disrupted the strange quiet for a time.

While the abilities Nerys and Mara possessed did indeed give the pack an extra sort of defense, Ananda would never trust anything more than the typical werewolf’s heightened senses. Yes, they could sense things that the rest of them couldn’t, but there was something about relying more on the senses she understood that was comforting to her. That wasn’t to say anything against Nerys or Mara, of course- she really liked the other females and respected them and their talents could indeed prove to be invaluable to the pack.
Now that she wasn’t picking up as much as she had been, it was far easier to relax again and get back to properly enjoying the evening with her mate, especially when Tariq relaxed again. When he was tense, she was as well. It didn’t matter what the situation was. She gave a little smile at his words. “We certainly did say that and whatever is going on up on the roof broke up the quiet.” Though now that that had been done, she was more than ready for the return of the quiet, but only as long as it didn’t become strange again.

It was so much for those like Tariq and Ananda to rely on what they understood, and as fascinating and rare as the abilities of individuals like Nerys and Mara were, they were confusing and sometimes even frightening to wolves who had the standard set of senses. Tariq had passed the point of wariness and concern, he knew neither she-wolf would use their abilities against anyone else in the pack by now, but he couldn't deny he had been on edge at first, confused by what they could do, and on some level, as ashamed as he would be to admit it nowadays, even distrustful. He was certain no one could blame him for how he had felt in the beginning, certainly when it came to Nerys, the first wolf he had encountered within the pack who could do anything more than any other wolf could, and given the sorts of things she was known to be capable of, it was not so surprising that there had been a degree of fear involved to begin with. That time was passed now, Tariq trusted both females, but he would never truly understand the things they could do.
A lock of her hair had come to lay over her shoulder, and he reached up and brushed it back as she spoke, smiling and making a quiet, acknowledging sound in the back of his throat. "That's our excitement for the evening," he said, content for that to be the case, turning his nose against her hair for a moment so he could breathe in his mate's scent and relax the rest of the way; Ananda's unique and -- to him -- unmistakable scent would always put him at ease, and even now after so many years it was a source of great comfort.

Admittedly, she had been extremely uncertain when it had come to the abilities that Nerys and Mara possessed and, while she knew that they would never use those abilities against anyone in the pack, Ananda still preferred to rely on the standard senses. They were, after all, what she was accustomed to and what she herself had, so for her it simply made sense that they would prefer what they knew. While she had grown used to the thought of their being members of the pack with such unusual abilities, she knew that she would always be more comfortable with typical werewolf abilities. That wasn’t to say that Nerys and Mara made her uncomfortable. That wasn’t the case at all. She liked both of the other females a great deal and she trusted them both as much as anyone else (save Tariq- as her mate, she would always trust him more than absolutely anyone), but it would always be easier to understand what she knew from experience.
“I hope that’s the only excitement we have,” she told him. Though it had been too oddly quiet earlier, she could very happily live without any more excitement for the night. Now all she wanted was to stay right where they were, nice and comfortable with her mate, just enjoying her time with him.

Before meeting either female Tariq had never even contemplated the possibility of werewolves possessing other abilities. They had so many abilities to begin with, after all, that the concept of adding anything else into the mix had just struck him as absurd, if he was honest about it. Mediumship and empathy had never even been on his radar, understandably, but now he knew better. Now he knew, as did every other wolf in their pack, that psychics -- to use a blanket term that applied not only to those with telepathic ability -- not only existed in this world, but within their own race. What must it be like, he found himself wondering from time to time, to have been born human with such an ability, and then gain the wolf as well? It couldn't have been an easy adjustment for either female, he was sure. It was all speculation of course, he would never seek out either individual to confirm or deny his theories; he respected other people's privacy much too greatly for that.
"As do I," he agreed, comfortable once again with his mate so close, and at ease again now that he knew the voices from above had not been raised in challenge or threat, and that the situation -- whatever it had been -- had come to some sort of conclusion. They could go back to their peaceful time together now, hopefully without any further interruptions, though at this point, Tariq knew that there was no way of anticipating what might happen at any given moment.

Before meeting Tariq, Ananda had never contemplated the existence of werewolves, but he had opened up a whole new world to her and, along with it, he had opened her mind as well. Though the others’ abilities had been a surprise to find out about, they had been easier to accept than they would have been before she had been turned. It was, she imagined, a side effect to having found out that werewolves were real. After all, it was hard to be really and truly skeptical after learning that creatures such as werewolves really existed, especially after so much time believing they existed only in stories. What she couldn’t imagine was what it would be like to have such an ability, though, had she been meant to know, she would have had such a thing herself. As it was, all she could really do was accept that it wasn’t for her to know.
Though she certainly hoped that the newly re-established peace would last for the rest of the night, she knew there were no guarantees that it would, which meant that the best thing to do was enjoy it while they could. She knew that was what she had absolutely every intention of doing.

Tariq believed that Ananda had been born to be a werewolf. It didn't matter to him in the least that she had actually been born a human, it happened that way sometimes, and it had been simple enough to change her and awaken the animal inside of her. Tariq was of the belief that everyone had that animal inside of them, and it was only werewolves who could truly embrace and understand it. With humans, it was dormant, buried deep inside of them, and it could never truly take form. That was sad to him, in a way, but at the same time there was some relief; some humans would make very poor wolves indeed, and it was for the best if they remained mortal. That had not been the case with his mate. Far from it.
"I should have brought a book down with us," he said after a long stretch of comfortable silence, his voice little more than a low murmur. Sometimes Tariq would read to her, occasionally to help her drift off to sleep at the end of a long day and at others merely to pass the time. If Ananda was interested in the prospect, he would be more than willing to head inside, even if only to the TV lounge where some books were kept, and retrieve something to read to her.
