There was an awful moment where Calista saw the monstrous wolf tearing toward her and everything stopped. All she saw were huge, gleaming fangs set in a gaping maw. It was the score of claws across her chest that kicked everything back into high gear and, with a shout, the female dropped to the ground, knees bent beneath her. Her forearm swung up between the enemy's wicked fangs and her throat.
The pain was excruciating. Useless fingers dropped one of her blades and Calista all but screamed/i], but at least it wasn't her neck being shredded. She pushed hard against the huge creature, even as agony made her vision swim. Her own blood was hot against her face and sheer stubbornness forced her to fight back.
With a snarl of defiance, the Greek female lifted her remaining blade and drove it down into the huge wolf's shoulder. When she felt metal scrap bone, she twisted.

Ripper didn't expect the blade. The bleeding, yes - but not from him. The pain was unexpected, and the scrape against the bone made him pull back, one of his paws straight arming the female, pushing her backwards and hard into the wall. He pulled back, awkwardly swiping one of his paws over the blade to remove it. It was a rare distraction.
It was a distraction Gabriel took swift and sure advantage of, a snarl bubbling up hot and fierce in his throat. Decisively and with predatory speed and intention he moved, closing what little gap there was between himself and their massive opponent, one hand rising quickly and clamping around the huge wolf's throat. It wasn't as sure a grip as Gabriel would have liked but it gave him enough of a hold to get even more distance between the towering creature and the lone female in the room. When he had enough room, Gabriel lashed out with one booted foot and slammed the sole against the wolf's muscled abdomen, trying to drive him back. The monstrous creature barely staggered.
There was no time and no other options open to them. Gabriel didn't even spare a glance back at his packmate before he called on his own change, the scent of Calista's blood in the air and the sound of her scream echoing in his ears helping to facilitate the transformation. Dark fur rushed over his form like a hungry wave and his eyes burned like hot coals, his short ears flattening back against his skull as his quadruped form finished taking shape, bristled tail snapping back and forth aggressively as his hackles rose like spikes. With a loud and rattling snarl of challenge he bolted forward and launched himself up and into his enemy's chest, jaws snapping at the other wolf's throat.

The frenzied wolf before him gave Ripper no pause. His shoulder's bleeding already slowing, the large wolf did not hesitate. His left arm swung in a low arc, and caught the smaller wolf just under the ribcage. It was a solid hit, landing with a sickening thud, knocking the wolf off its' feet.
The other arm swung down, and grabbed the scruff of the neck. Effortlessly he flung the wolf into the wall, stalking over to make another grab. Ripper's sheer size made this fight nearly too easy, and his teeth bared in dissatisfaction. How a pack could survive when these[/ were its' defenses? Pathetic.
Pathetic and deserving of teeth, claws, and a death to release them from their shame.

His body flared with fresh pain and deep hurt but Gabriel was a warrior born and bred, it was in his blood and there was no defeating him, not so easily at least. He shook off the damage like the dust from the buckled walls and rattled ceiling and snarled anew in the face of his enemy, whirling around with such ferocious speed and intensity that he was a mere blur defying all laws of physics; a creature of his size had no right moving so quickly or so cleanly. His fangs found a home in the other wolf's thick arm and buried with a vicious hunger. Gabriel locked his jaws, having no intention of letting go.
There was no beating this enemy of theirs wolf to wolf, he was much too large and powerful, he had been trained to brutalise and destroy. What hope did Gabriel and Calista have against such a foe? No, his intent was to distract and trap their opponent and give Calista enough time and opportunity to take up one of the dropped weapons and attack from behind. Two heads were better than one, after all, and never had Gabriel believed such a thing more than he did in that moment as he bit down with all the strength he could muster.

Even with her enhanced strength as a wolf, Calista felt a terrifying moment of dizziness. There was no way to tell how much blood she lost. There was a vicious pain spreading through her torso, a pain that told her there were broken ribs shifting about.
And yet, when she saw the opportunity, she moved. Her ravaged arm was useless, but that still left her with one more. Powerful fingers gripped around the wrapped hilt of one deadly blade and held fast. With a warrior's cry, the female darted in; gleaming metal sank into the enemy's back, low and centered. On a human, the blow would have been fatal – an ordinary man took mere moments to bleed out – but a wolf would find it little more than an inconvenience. An inconvenience that would give them time; the son of a bitch would need to reverse the change to reach the pronged sai – there would be no reaching back to tear it free, not with the massive bulk of his wolf form.
It would give them the opportunity they needed. There would be no victory here – if they didn't get away from this foe, they would surely be killed.

The jaws in his arm were his focus when the bladed weapon went into his back. Ripper gave a roar of rage - the feeling of the metal into his back lending to the power of his movements. He flung the smaller male off of his arm, the teeth leaving rents in his furred forearm, the blood running freely, but slowly already.
Ripper straightened, his eyes on the female who had stabbed him. Blades, Ripper understood. He'd spent so much time cutting people, wolves, animals... he'd been hurt and hurt again, slices from his own skin until he knew every slice of a blade, and what kind of pain came from each cut... the entrance, the exit, the rip of a serrated edge, the clean, clean burn after a sharp, sharp blade went through flesh.
His wolf eyes glowed as he looked at her, her pain obvious, her fear cloying in his nostrils. His torso began to shrink - the man beginning to take shape - the bulk changing until the bladed weapon merely dropped to the ground behind him...the man bent, lifting his blade - never removing his eyes from the female. In a breath, he was a wolf again. Without a sound, the massive jaws opened, and the tongue licked the blade - his own blood past his teeth. He cleaned it thoroughly, then put back his head and howled - a ringing, mad sound.
Then he crouched. Death in his eyes. She would pay for her insolence.

His jaw ached and his side was warm with burning discomfort after another slam into the wall but Gabriel didn't stop. He had cracked his head against the wall with the fresh throw but he didn't lie down and give himself time to recover. Even the familiar feel of blood in his fur didn't stop him. With a low rattling snarl he found his footing again just as the towering bulk of wolf shifted back long enough to dislodge the blade from his back. Even as their enemy was turning towards Calista with lethal and ferocious intent Gabriel was summoning both his speed and his strength and putting himself into motion again.
With a powerful kick off his hind legs he leapt into the air and onto the other male's back; such was his bulk that Gabriel ended up close to the ceiling once he found his grip, growling with feral purpose before clamping down on the enemy wolf's shoulder with his powerful jaws, biting deep and hard. His body dangled down the intruding male's back and it would only be a matter of time before he was dislodged again but Gabriel was nothing if not determined. He hadn't lived as long as he had and survived so many battles by admitting defeat so soon into a fight.

She could feel the wolf just beneath the surface, riled by the violence and the scent of blood. It would have been so easy to let the change come; Calista knew she was at a disadvantage in her human guise, but Gabriel and the enemy wolf barely fit in the tiny room as it was. There was a moment of hesitation on her part as she gauged the situation, trying to ignore the gathering smoke and the way it burned her eyes and nose. It seemed no amount of shaking would dislodge Gabriel, so powerful was his bite, but even a wolf couldn't ignore being slammed into a floor to ceiling bookshelf. The Greek she-wolf gave a cry when she saw her companion drop.
The wolf tore through her not a breath later. More than 300 pounds of angry female came roaring at the enemy and she didn't stop when her claws met flesh. She felt the impact when his back hit the wall, heard wood and plaster splintering -- with the hotel burning up around them, every structure was becoming unstable.
However, the she-wolf was unconcerned with the cracks that spiderwebbed up the wall. She took a page from Gabriel's book and, with a snarl, sank fangs into the fur-covered flesh of her enemy's shoulder. When she tasted blood, it only prompted her to bite down harder.

The bookshelf shattered like glass, splinters and larger fragments of wood scattering violently in all directions and Gabriel released a gruff bark of pain and shock. As shelves and framework and books showered down in a heavy cascade Gabriel hit the ground with an unceremonious and jarring thump of limbs and muscle. The room around him seemed to pitch and his focus wavered dangerously, his head throbbed with pain and each breath he heaved in felt constricted and awkward, like he was pulling them through a straw into a space that was too small to accommodate the oxygen he badly needed. For a moment his wolf form weakened but he pulled it back through defiance and sheer force of will, growling with effort as he struggled to get his paws back underneath legs that suddenly felt shaky and unreliable.
Gabriel knew he was hurt, he couldn't be certain where or just how badly but he knew without a shadow of a doubt that he had sustained damage. He could feel that familiar hot ache through his bones and when he tried to move there was sharp and piercing discomfort through several parts of his body. That could wait until later, a true warrior fought to the end and he refused to leave Calista alone with their enemy.
His bright wolfen eyes opened and picked out the large forms tangled together against the wall, dust and plater debris still tumbling down from the ceiling. The unmistakable tang of fresh blood struck the air and Gabriel growled, hauling himself up with a snarl of determination, books and shards of wood tumbling off his frame as he rose, hackles standing erect along the length of his spine and his teeth bared in a fierce display.

Ripper's attention was now entirely on the bitch attacking him. She was a distraction from his main task, and the emptiness of his mind began to cloud with chaos. She was biting him.. how dare she still be attacking him... drawing blood. He had to be killing - and she'd taken his first prey, and the pair of these wolves were keeping him from the task Sheppard had given him.
Ripper could not, would not disappoint Sheppard. His wolf roared, the howl surely making the ears of the bitch ring, even as she bit into his shoulder. His heavy bulk had cracked the wall behind him, it was continuing to crack and snap. Over her back he could see the other wolf pulling himself up - his teeth bared in an attempt to threaten. What had Ripper to fear from these two... nothing.
But he had much to fear if he disappointed Sheppard. He would be cast away from his place - never again blessed to give pain - to take blood.
He straightened, the she-wolf's teeth biting into his shoulder, drawing blood - he simply gathered his legs beneath him, and straightened, until she hung from her teeth. The pain of her jaws began to register through his madness -- but he'd already made his plan. He turned, and throwing his massive paws out, he flung himself at the wall - it gave with a crunch - her body pushed into the beams as they shattered - the force ripping her from him as he went through the weakened wall.
He had more to do. The bitch and her companion had to die.

Gabriel saw his opportunity to strike anew and he seized it with the fearless ferocity of a warrior with centuries' worth of experience beneath his belt. Gabriel could very well lose his life in this fight but it was for the good of the pack and so the sacrifice would be more than worth it. That was what a fighter did, they sacrificed for their pack, they gave everything they could give and then more if they could manage it. They gave it all. Not because they had to but because they wanted to, because they could and because they believed it was right, because lives would be saved or lost depending on how they acted and Gabriel chose to throw himself back into the fray, tooth and claw, in the hopes of keeping this formidable enemy distracted long enough for others in the Four Seasons to get out unharmed. If he was killed in the process and others survived because of his and Calista's efforts then his death would not be in vain.
His primary concern was getting Calista out as well.
So it was that he leapt upon the back of their opponent with all the force and power he could muster, broken and cracked ribs shifting with blinding and burning pain in his chest but they were pains that were easily ignored when faced with a threat as big as the one posed by this other wolf. Gabriel's claws dug through fur and into flesh and he clung to his enemy, smaller but lighter and quicker as a result, his teeth finding the same wounds Calista had ripped open in the big male's shoulder and digging his own teeth into them with a feral aggression and drive. Dust and debris was still raining down from the ruined wall and even as wood and plaster fell upon his back Gabriel kept his hold, biting harder and deeper and ignoring the splash of hot blood against the roof of his mouth. He had to hold on for as long as he could, if only so Calista could have the chance to pick herself up and get clear.

Everything had gone white when she and the enemy wolf had crashed through the weakened wall. The force of the impact had, indeed, flung Calista away from her quarry; her body bounced against the load-bearing beams that still stood and she hit the ground hard, too dazed to really catch herself. Paws scrabbled against the filthy floor, then bloodied fingers were gripping plaster and debris. Her long, tangled hair hung in her face and she tried to force her battered form to move.
There was a great crack from above. Even over the noise of Gabriel and his adversary, Calista heard it. The she-wolf's eyes went toward the cracked ceiling, just in time to see the plaster and wood there splinter and break entirely. It was just the push she needed; with a shout, she got her feet under her, diving out of the way just as a great, heavy beam would a crushed her flat. Calista skidded, hitting the opposite wall with a cry of pain and panic. She curled into herself and clasped her arms over her head.
She wasn't ready to die. And she wasn't about to let her dearest friend die for her, either, pack honor be damned.

The chaotic din of part of the ceiling giving way and Calista's near-bellow of his name had Gabriel pausing. Debris rained down with more speed and strength than before, pieces of wood and plaster bounced off his shoulders, back and even his head and his grip faltered when he heard the voice of his packmate. Loosing his teeth from the meat of the other male's large shoulder, Gabriel lost his grip and slipped -- without much in the way of grace -- to the ground, landing awkwardly and with a thump on the ground. There was another groaning creak from overhead and Gabriel's ember-bright eyes turned upward. The ceiling wouldn't hold for much longer.
With one last glance at the hulking mass of enemy wolf he had just free himself from, Gabriel bolted across the room, skidding to a stop at Calista's side, transforming from wolf to man as he did so. His body was aching fiercely, his head was pounding, he knew he was wounded but they had to get out before the whole room above them came crashing down, trapping them in the process. "We have to go," he whispered fiercely to the she-wolf, moving to help her up from the floor, "right now." They had to get out, either into the hallway or out onto the side street, and preferably before the huge male they had been fighting managed to corner them.

Calista bit down a cry of pain as she made it to her feet with Gabriel's help. The seemed to pitch under her, though she couldn't be entirely sure if it was just her body struggling for equilibrium. She could hear the enemy wolf rousing himself, trying to push through the debris and get to them -- finish them both off. There was a panicked little voice in the back of her head that screamed wordlessly, all useless terror. The she-wolf gave it a kick; this was no time to panic. If they didn't get moving now, there was a good chance they wouldn't make it out of the room, let alone the burning hotel.
With the male's hand gripped tight in her own, she staggered for the door. It hung partly off the hinges, giving the two wolves no resistance. If she focused on moving, focused on the pressure of Gabriel's hand around hers, she wouldn't think about the pain in her body or the throbbing of her skull. The thick smoke was harder to ignore -- it stung the eyes and burned the lungs -- but they had to keep moving. They had to get out.
Continued in: Hallways with Gabriel.

The male wolf jumped off of him, and Ripper turned. His wolf knew the place he fought was now unsturdy. He may have preferred mad fighting an blood, but in a fight, Ripper knew how to find the advantage - and that included your surroundings. This place was coming apart around them - and he'd had enough of these two. He could kill them, end it, but his job was to create havoc -spill blood - kill the weak. He should have gotten the female.
Perhaps if he tracked her - she was wounded after all - it would be no small feat.
The sound of the ceiling cracking more loudly took his attention. His wolf shape melted away, his bulk no longer that of a wolf, to move more lightly through the smoke damaged rooms.
He heard the cry from the hall. He could follow it. He could smell the rest of his pack - the blood - even his leader's work was in the mix - he could hear the screams.
He moved quickly, his wounds ignored, and already pinking as the blood began to slow. Nothing that would slow him down. He sheathed his knives - and moved. There was more to do. Sheppard had not called him back. So he was still working.
There was more blood to shed.
