"Thank you...nothing for me, thanks. I'm...fine."
Billie wished she could be as steady as Marion appeared; the singer was fairly sure that her hands were shaking. Trying to mask her anxiety, she clasped her hands together in her lap and took a steadying breath before she looked to Nate again. "Dr. Wilder...I saw Andrew in the hallway," she began quietly. "He looked pretty banged up, but...he'll be okay, yeah?"

Marion looked at Nate, but he gave her a slight nod and a smile. She turned to Billie and put her hand comfortingly on the singer's shoulder. "Nate said that he'll just need to take some pain meds for a while while the swelling goes down, but it probably looks a million times worse to us than it is. He'll be fine, Billie." She gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze.
"Look, when Andrew comes out, he's sure as hell not going back to his apartment in that state, especially since he's on the 4th floor with the dodgy elevator. I'm going to take him back to my apartment, he's got a bed there and extra clothes - you know that I'm sure - I'd planned on keeping an eye on him anyway. " She gave a friendly smile and said quietly, "If you have a day or two off, I have another room you're welcome to - I'll provide meals and such for the help. And I have absolutely no doubt that either of us want to let Andrew try and take care of himself. He'll be grateful you're there, and me having you there too will cut off his argument that he's a burden on me. Which you know he'll do. Nate can come by and check on him in the evenings if he's up to it. He will be just fine, and this way we can be sure of it."
She hoped she hadn't overstepped and waited for the singer's response.

Billie was taken aback for a moment. Andrew's boss was being so kind; opening her home when they barely knew each other. It was obvious to Billie that Marion cared very much for her law assistant, and the blonde woman was so very comforting...
Then what's the problem?
"All right," she agreed finally, smiling. "Thank you so much, Ms. Barnes -- that's a real comfort. If it's all right, I hope you'll let me at least help with meals, or I could help around the office, if you need me." The singer chuckled. "Don't want to be a freeloader or anything."

"You'd not be a freeloader of any kind. Meals might be good - I'm afraid I'm only good at making coffee and dialing for delivery." Marion smiled. "And for god's sake, call me Marion."
She rubbed her eyes tiredly and gave the pair a weary smile. "I'm guessing that as soon as he comes out of X-ray, we can take him home?" She looked at Billie again. "I've called his mother - given her a story so he'll be okay for a few days to recover - and we're on a light case load at the moment, so nothing is pressing. Thank goodness. Nate said that he can get an officer down here to take his story, so once that's done, I'll head to the station first thing. It'll be even better if you're there then. You can come with us tonight, or you can arrive in the morning - I'll alert security to let you park."
Marion was relieved, and pleased that Billie was willing to assist Andrew. It would be a comfort to Andrew... and to Marion, though she wouldn't let on.

“Well,” Nate interrupted as politely as he could manage, “we have to wait for the test results to come back, but it should only be another hour at most. He’s not in a bad enough condition to have to be kept, since you can observe him at your place. And I called the officer; they’ll be here soon.” He set down his mug, and slipped his hands into his pockets.
At least the hospital itself seemed relatively quiet now, compared to the usual rush of the full moon. It usually brought out all the crazies; all the wannabes and… to be frank, maniacs… anyone who thought they were really a werewolf, or had seen too many movies for their own good. At least half the patient-load they received on these nights ended up being sent home after a thoroughly pointless process of diagnosing nothing worse than a vivid imagination.

Dr. Wilder was a likeable sort, Billie decided. Granted, politeness was probably highly encouraged in his line of work, but he seemed to be a genuinely good guy. Billie flashed the young doctor a smile; the fact that he had the patience and talent to even be a doctor was rather impressive, too. It was a profession far beyond her reach, that was for certain.
With another small smile, she returned her attenion to Marion. "I'll need to grab a few things from my apartment, but I can catch a bus back to your place tonight, if that'd be all right." The smile became slightly sheepish. "I don't have a car."

Marion shook her head. "Living in California doesn't mean that cars are required. Sometimes I envy bus riders as I sit on the freeway. If you like, we can go to your apartment now while he's in X-ray and having testing done, and pick up a few things - or we can drop by your place on the way back from the hospital." The blonde woman shrugged her shoulders lightly with a smile - "Then we can get him settled and settle ourselves as well. I don't know about you, but a hot shower and a glass of very red wine will be required before I start to feel better. Or a large pan of brownies."
She looked to Nate gratefully. "I'll bring brownies as a thank you."

The young ER doctor shook his head. “You don’t have to do that,” he assured her, and yet, even as he said the words, he knew she would likely bring them anyway. And if she did, he could at least set them in the doctor’s lounge; in a place like St. Benedict’s, food never went to waste, at least, especially if it was left in clear view and reach.
He looked to Billie, recognising in her all the signs and symptoms of a classic state of concern. He had seen it a million times before, in all manner of friends and relatives and loved ones, and would likely see it a million times again in the future. It was one of the hardest parts of his job, especially if he had the responsibility in a case to go up to them and let them down; tell them the news nobody ever wanted to hear.

"Hey now, don't you worry about the cooking," Billie told Marion with a smile that she hoped was strong enough. "I'll be taking care of that, remember? Two batches; one for us, and one for the good doctor." She gave Dr. Wilder a slight grin. "I hope you're a fan of double-fudge, Doc. And possibly caramel, if I'm feeling diabolical."
Billie was fairly sure that Doc Wilder knew she was just putting up a brave front, but she was used to it. The singer didn't usually let things get her down; it was in her nature. The worry might catch up with her later, once things had calmed down, but by then she hoped to be back at Marion's with a very strong drink. And those brownies.

POST TIMESKIP
“Just make sure he doesn’t eat anything.” Nate handed the chart back over the desk to the nurse waiting on the other side. “I’ve already told him myself that he’s not to eat, but, well, you know patients.”
The nurse smiled, perhaps flirtatiously; Nate was too busy and tired to really notice either way. “They think they can do whatever they want.”
“Because they’re sick. Exactly.” Nate didn’t sound genuinely exasperated, just wryly amused if anything, and it passed quickly as he looked down at his next chart, pen held in his dominant hand as he rolled his shoulders subtly, sighing quietly, eyes down-turned and focused even through his fatigue. If he could just catch a half hour to himself, he could head to the doctor’s lounge and catch a quick nap, but the week so far had taken its toll on the population of Los Angeles. It was only Thursday, and they’d already had several MVAs, accidents both silly and serious, and more than one crime-related injury from some bungled robbery attempt or another.
The week was most certainly taking its toll on Nate when he looked down at his chart and saw his next patient wasn’t even midway through her teens. If he didn’t believe in jinxing himself, he would have allowed himself to think that the day surely couldn’t get any worse.

He was already trying to concoct a plan of action. Should he check the kid out for himself first and then call for a Paeds consult, or call for the consult first? Drawing in a semi-deep breath, face sort of twisted into a torn, contemplative expression, he tapped his pen lightly against the paper clipped to the chart, examining the loose details the nursing staff had acquired when the girl, and whoever was with her, had checked in.
Nate wasn’t sure what he heard first, the shriek of a patient or the shout for help from one of the nurses, but as soon as he was alerted, the tiredness dropped away like a rock and he bolted, leaving the chart on the desk, pen and all, running through the curtain area, all but snapping for people to get out of the way if they didn’t get the hint from his pace.
