Sarah snorted. "To do that I'd probably have to try to share it with you myself. Even then I might not manage it. Anyway, I'm hoping I'll have other plans this weekend, if you know what I mean...but I could certainly suggest to Erica that she swing by your place with some cookies or something, if I do. Maybe Joe -- Henderson's cousin -- wouldn't object to dropping by the apartment himself, you can give me your opinion on the guy."

Her partner smiled. “Well… one guy giving an opinion on another guy? We’re pretty vague, as you know.” Toying with his pen again, he looked at their coffee cups, and then the percolator. Taking his mind off coffee once more, he looked back to Sarah. “I’m sure the guy’s fine; if you got on with him, then that’s the important thing, right?” What did Chris know?
Chris was a guy… and had had a little too much coffee. It wasn’t even ten o’clock. If Sarah expected sense out of him, she would probably have to wait at least another hour.

"Right." Sarah shrugged. "Well, then, we have a plan. I'll send Erica over with man-lures -- I mean cookies -- and take the new guy rock-climbing. That's if we don't get called in on some massive case, of course..." Again she knocked on the desk.
"So what movies are you guys going to watch?" she inquired, mostly from the inability to think of anything more interesting to say.

“I’ll make sure Ray doesn’t eat all the cookies,” Chris pointed out, spinning the pen on his desktop, mostly just for something to keep his hands occupied. Sarah knew just as well as her partner that the shortest of the group of male friends was something of a snack-fiend; leftover pizza, chips, peanuts… anything he could get his hands on would be consumed.
“As for what movies we’re gonna watch…” He considered it for a while, and then shrugged under his black t-shirt. “Guess it depends on what we feel like. And by that, I, of course, mean what kind of explosions and action we’re in the mood for.” Offering her a smile, he watched the pen spin for a little while.

"Well, there's always my favorite blowing-stuff-up movie," Sarah teased him. "Of course, I don't think you and the Gunmen have quite the same appreciation for all the male eye candy that I do. You get the vampire in corsets and black leather, though, I'm sure they'd enjoy that." She winked.

“Oh, the guys have already seen that movie. Ray was kinda drunk at the time, so he couldn’t stop giggling at the whole invisible man thing.” Chris shook his head. If every group had at least one member for comic relief — intentional or otherwise — then Ray was most definitely it when it came to Chris and his friends. He didn’t even have to try, and half the time, the other three were laughing at something he’d done.
“Apart from that, yeah — vampire in corsets and black leather; didn’t exactly go down too badly.” Chris realised how that sounded, but decided to ignore it. Sarah would know what he meant. Hopefully…

"Probably went down about as badly as the blonde spy and sexy immortal went down with the girls and me," she returned good-naturedly. "Connery isn't bad at all either, considering his age, and the doctor looked pretty good without a shirt....I may have to watch that when I get home." She laughed. "Oh, but that does remind me -- isn't that blowing-up-London movie with Hugo Weaving coming out on DVD soon?"

“V For Vendetta?” Chris pulled a face. “I’m not sure.” He hadn’t enjoyed it anyway, when he’d seen it. “I don’t think I’ll be buying that, anyway.” Leaning back in his chair again, he abandoned the immature entertainment of spinning his pen, leaving it to sit on the desktop. “Why, did you like it? Or have you just… not seen it yet?”
Okay, he’d like the part where things exploded… but then, he’d seen that in the previews and on trailers before, so it was a bit anticlimactic when you knew it was coming, and the rest of the movie had, in his opinion, dragged on by. It had had its moments, but on the whole, he’d be avoiding sitting through it again.

"Haven't seen it," she replied. "But the reviews were pretty mixed, so I'm going to guess that if you didn't like it, there's a good chance I wouldn't either. Maybe I'll rent it sometime to decide for sure, but...eh." She shrugged; the movie had only marginally interested her in the first place.
"Sheppy," she said after a moment, "do you ever feel like we've run out of things to talk about? For the life of me I can't think of anything."

Chances were, if Sarah had an opinion on something, Chris’ own view was very similar, if not completely the same. Granted, some things earned different takes from the pair, but those instances were limited, and usually just involved drunks, the type of people the older, taller partner could not abide… at least, not with any patience.
“I never thought I’d say this, but what I wouldn’t give for a good bit of chaos right about now.” He leaned forward in his chair again, frowning subtly when it creaked somewhat. Crossing his arms on the desk, he dropped his chin down on top of them, and tried to find something other than his partner to stare at; that was rude, after all, and would no doubt make her wonder why he was fixated.

"We could always go on patrol, I guess. Or put in a couple rounds at the shooting range," Sarah suggested. Her grin turned slightly mischievous. "Or, like good stereotypical cops, we could check out the grand opening of the new doughnut shop on 97th Street."

Laughing, he buried his head in his arms for a moment. When he lifted it again, his hair was — if at all possible — increasingly ruffled. “Shooting range sounds like a great idea, actually,” he concurred, regarding her from where he sat. “We’ve still got a couple of hours to kill before lunch, and if this morning is any indication, it’s gonna be a long, slow day.”
He shifted slightly in his seat, ready to move whenever she showed signs of doing so. He didn’t want to seem too eager, even if going to the range was one of the things he enjoyed the most; it came with the territory of being a cop, but it was an aspect that he had always been fond of.

"Works for me. Besides, after that last 'incident' we had, I'll feel better if I brush up on my target practice anyway." Sarah locked her desk and stood up, shouldering her bag. "Lead on, Macduff."

Continued from The Parking Lot with Chris
Back in the office, Sarah took her seat and turned on the computer. Time to check the old email.
"Hm....I have access to money in Nigeria...fabulous price on Rolex watches....horny housewife thinks I can help her out...man, what did I do for fun in the years before there was email?" she remarked dryly, glancing across at her partner.

Chris hadn't even turned off his computer, but rather let the screensaver kick in; the good old default that he couldn't be bothered to change.
"You need a better spam filter," he quipped lazily as he sat in his chair, slouching back in it so that it creaked slightly as he browsed his own inbox. "That, or... yeah, you just need a better filter." He chuckled, mass-deleting all of his own spam, and giving a sigh. "Some days, there's really no point, huh?" It certainly seemed that way, anyway.
It was at that moment that someone came to their desk with a fax, which they passed first to Chris. "Well... shit." It was mumbled, and not enough to attract attention from anyone but Sarah, even as he passed the sheet over to her. "Looks like our pal Donnelly's making trouble again."
