“Real coffee it is then,” Tony answered, agreeing with her choice completely. Even if by some miracle, the coffee in the break room was drinkable or actually, dare he say it, good… it wouldn’t be as good as coffee from a coffee shop and he was sure Mike could easily be tempted into thinking the same.
He looked down at the body again as Tasha left, closing his eyes and muttering a quick prayer. Tony wasn’t in any way religious – he had a feeling even if he had been when he started this job, a few days on it, seeing the horror human beings did to each other on a daily basis would have destroyed that – but his Aunt was and she would have been horrified at the thought of ‘her’ boy standing over a man of God without at least offering a word or two for his soul.
It didn’t matter that his Aunt would never know about this – he made an effort to spare her the unpleasant aspects of his job – the thought that she might be upset at him was more than enough to make him do what he could.

Tasha made short work of changing out of her scrubs and into her ‘street clothes’. A pair of jeans that hugged her hips with a simple belt, and a blouse that parted below her neck, and she was good to go. The cuffs on the blouse were loose and somewhat flowing; she had heard the weather report before putting her CD on, which had finished while she and Tony had been talking, and she was grateful for the forethought of bringing clothes suitable for another warm day in Los Angeles.
Closing her locker and checking she had her cell phone and pager safely in her shoulder bag, she emerged from the back room again. “Hey, Kenny, can you take care of Father Mackenzie for me?” At the young man’s nod, she smiled softly. “Thanks.” She could trust her quiet co-worker to put the body back in its place and do so efficiently. Giving a simple wave to him, she moved over to Tony.
“Okay… I’m ready for our coffee hunt. Do you think I can take the Riveras anything if they’re still in the hospital?”

Tony gave her a small but genuine smile as she reached his side. It wasn’t his way to give large, bright and over the top smiles or expressions. He left things like that to Mike or someone else suited to being the life and soul of rooms. Tony was the wall hugger, the one who would painfully try and pretend he was making intelligent conversation with the plant in the corner. He had long since grown past caring what other people thought about his shy manner – those who mattered like Tasha knew that a small smile didn’t mean he was being unfriendly.
“Then to our coffee hunt we shall go. As for the Riveras… I’m not sure what sort of thing they would like, except some of our coffee treasure should we find some.” Tony teased her lightly, knowing that like most in the building, the siblings all but ran on the caffeinated liquid.

“Marcus likes… sugar. And stuff.” She shrugged, pretending she wasn’t trying to think of what he might like, along with Katherine. Maybe she could buy them both something pointlessly tacky from the hospital gift shop, like a stuffed bunny, or a balloon with a ridiculous smiling face. The thought brightened her a little more, and she almost laughed at the mental image of handing either sibling such a gift. She was almost tempted to go through with it.
“I have faith in our coffee finding skills,” she told Tony, nodding her head as she headed for the door, expecting he would be on her heels, albeit not literally. “There’s that place a few blocks over that makes a good latte,” she said spontaneously as she opened the door, glancing back to him.
