Kaida supposed she was happy enough. It was never an emotion she really focused on, not in any great detail. She was happy in the now and all Kaida particularly cared about was how she felt in the now, that breathtaking feeling of being so alive in the moment, pushing ahead when others turned back, balanced on the very brink and enjoyed every second of it.
She hummed softly, kissing Devin and letting the water wash down on both of them, Kaida quickly becoming soaked through as they stood there, the female slowly and deliberately taking the sponge and cleaning some of the blood away from her mate’s chest.

After the kiss, Devin raised his head and tilted it back just slightly, letting the water run over his face. Right now, there were no bodies waiting to be transported elsewhere. There were no plans to wait around and see what the cops who got called out did when they saw what had happened. There was nothing but him, his mate and this little world inside the shower. At least, for the time being. He knew that he would have to step back into the real world, but that would come sooner than he would prefer and until he had to, where was the use in thinking about it? He wanted to enjoy himself and right now, he definitely was.
For the most part, he tried not to be too bothered with emotions. Love for his mate was the one that he always felt, no matter where he was or what he was doing. That was something that he would always feel, no matter what his particular mood was. Happiness was something that he only truly got when he was with Kaida or had someone in his room and he was having his playtime. Emotions were something that Devin thrived on and liked to use in his favor when he could.

The shower was ending far too quickly for Kaida’s taste. Sure they could linger under the water for as long as they wanted, the constant heat of the liquid keeping them from any sort of discomfort. But the longer they remained under the water the more chance there was of her skin wrinkling and even though it was only a temporary, she tried to avoid everything and anything that made her look anything less than perfect.
She reached up, finger’s trailing along Devin’s skin, before kissing at the base of his neck, trying to hold the moment for as long as possible but already her mind was worrying about the unsightly way fingers and toes puffed up with the water and her calm for the moment was broken. Kaida pulled away from him a little, smile curled on her lips. “Clean enough love?”

It was most certainly ending far too quickly for Devin’s taste and, if it hadn’t been for Kadia and her worry for temporarily wrinkled skin, he would have suggested that they stay there longer. He had told her numerous times that no matter what, she would always look perfect to him. That, however, was obviously not- and never would be- enough for her. Admittedly, he sometimes wished that she wasn’t quite so worried about her appearance at all times, but it was how she was and he accepted that- he loved her all the same.
He tried to fight back a rather disappointed sigh, but he didn’t completely succeed. It escaped, but it was far softer than it would have otherwise been. “I guess so.”

“We have the rest of eternity together,” Kaida whispered, leaning up again to kiss him on the lips. The sigh hadn’t gone un-noticed and while she knew her mate would have far preferred to stay in the shower, she just couldn’t stand under the water any longer. It was an inescapable worry in the back of her mind, the fear that somehow she would lose some of her beauty, lose it and never be able to get it back. “There are other ways to spend our time.”
She stepped back, water droplets falling from her skin as she exited the shower, no trace of modesty present. There was nobody to see but her mate after all and Kaida didn’t think Devin was going to complain about things like that. “Perhaps tonight we should stay in, relax on the bed? Maybe watch one of those silly human films…”

Devin returned the kiss, enjoying the closeness of his mate. He loved Kaida more than anything, but he sometimes wished that she wasn’t quite so vain. He understood why she was and most of the time it really didn’t bother him, but occasionally, he wished that she could be convinced to make something like staying in the shower with him last a little longer. He wasn’t going to try and convince her to stay in there if she really didn’t want to, though.
He turned off the water before stepping out after her, giving a smile as he moved to get them each a towel. “I’d like that.” He tried not to be clingy, but sometimes, he just really wanted to spend time with her, just them relaxing and not thinking about victims or who they were going to grab next or where they were going to go to find them. “I’d like it a lot.”

Vain was just how she was, an unchangeable part of her, like the need to kill that resided in both of them and just like – if she was being perfectly honest with herself, something that rarely happened in Kaida’s mind – the way in which Devin was so dependant on her, past the normal realm of mates. Then again, Kaida liked the thought that she held something so precious and personal and hers in the palm of her hand. It wasn’t as though she loved him anything less.
The smile she gave Devin wasn’t the usual calculated smile she gave her prey once they understood the truth. It wasn’t the slightly wicked smile she would share with a male while reeling him in, look promising all kinds of fun. It wasn’t even the sort of smile she would normally grace her mate with but instead it was a softer, gentle smile that was at odds with her typical sharp and cold personality. “It’s a date then.”
