Chris had rested his chin on his crossed arms, waiting for a decision to be made. Sarah knew he was fond of Chinese, so her opinion brought a slight smile to his face, even if he found himself wondering whether she had made the suggestion for just that reason. He would ask her in the car, away from curious ears.
When Miles used the words ‘let’s hurry’, Chris quirked a brow, lifting his head. “You’re coming along?” he asked, for a flicker of an instant feeling defensive of the car that they drove, when they were working. It was an unremarkable, unmarked car, but he was a little possessive of it, as Sarah knew. More than half the time, Chris drove, and not just because he was ‘the guy’ in the partnership. “Not that that’s a problem,” he made sure to add quickly, glancing to Sarah and hoping she wouldn’t laugh at him for even remotely showing disappointment that Miles wanted to tag along.

Sarah stepped in, figuratively speaking, to calm the matter before it got out of hand. "I think Tyler assumed we were getting takeout and bringing it back here," she explained. "But if you come along, then there's no need to come back. We can all pretend to be normal people and eat in a restaurant, how interesting. But damned if I'm giving up shotgun." She glanced at Flynn. "We can fit one more in the backseat, you sure you don't want to come along? Chris isn't that bad of a driver."

Flynn considered for a moment and finally gave a nod. Since he was typically sitting around waiting for something to do, he supposed that lunch would be okay. After all, if anyone needed him, his number was on the speed dial of many of the department's employees. It saved them time trying to hunt him down when they needed something. "I guess it really wouldn't hurt anything if I went along."

Standing smoothly from his chair, and swinging the seat out from under him to spin it back to where it belonged, Chris offered Miles a subtly smug smile, smothering it before it could get too cocky. He wasn’t sure where their dislike had started, but it hadn’t gotten any better since they had been working together. Chris knew part of it was Miles’ age, and his attitude; he was younger than the tall sergeant, but he had an arrogance about him. Chris knew his father, Duncan, probably would have decked a detective like Miles at one point or another, but… well, that had been in the past; back when it hadn’t been so easy to get suspended.
“Full car then,” Chris remarked with a calm nod, pulling the car keys from his pocket. “No time like the present.”

A regular comedian…
Chris’ smile said it all; ‘very witty’. But his eyes almost showed disappointment, before he stepped back from the door, making a slight gesture with his hand, eyes on Miles. Oh, it was immature, and probably very expected, and maybe Sarah would sigh in irritation and leave the room first to stop the two of them from making low blows at one another, but it was oddly satisfying, in its own immature way.

Sarah rolled her eyes, and cast an apologetic glance at Flynn, who was no doubt puzzled by these antics. "Really, Miles," she said, uncrossing her legs and standing to stretch, "I had no idea. I'll be sure to keep my irresistible womanly charms at the forefront next time I'm wrangling for a raise." Admittedly, she was sort of amused at the way Chris had implied that Miles should go first -- she doubted Miles appreciated the implication that he was a lady -- but she wouldn't show her amusement until later, when he wasn't around.
And if I'm so damned irresistible, how come I'm almost 31 and still single? She shook off the unwelcome question and headed for the door, hopefully bringing the so-called witty exchanges between sergeant and detective to a close.

Rolling his own eyes, Chris waited for the others to head out of the break room before exiting it himself, swinging his keys around his index finger, occasionally snapping them to a stop in his clenched hand, listening to them jangle as they headed away from the closed door, and the smell of smoke Miles had left in his wake. Chris was going to have to open the windows in the car, especially if the detective intended to sneak in another cigarette on the drive.
He didn’t rise to the comments about Sarah, simply because he knew his partner could take care of herself; she’d proven it countless times in the past, and he didn’t doubt she would continue to do so in the future.

"Well," said Sarah, walking in and glancing down at Miles. "Here I am. Your charming love letter asked me to meet you here and not to bring my overprotective shadow." She chuckled. "I feel compelled to warn you, he vowed to come and hunt me down if I don't return within fifteen minutes. So...what's on your mind?" She leaned against the table where he sat.

Sarah raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "You're asking me on a date, detective?"
Well...why not? Okay, yeah, Chris doesn't like him. But Chris doesn't like most of the men I go out with, so what's the difference?
"Sure, I'm free. Saturday's probably better, though."

"Let's say seven. You can pick the place; I'm pretty flexible." Sarah took the card and glanced at it briefly before stowing it in her pocket. "Well, I've gotta get back upstairs....big project about to commence, and Tyler needs me to supervise." She grinned. "If something comes up, I'll call and we'll reschedule. Thanks, Spencer." With a wave, she headed for the door.

Upon entering, Flynn headed straight for the vending machine and got himself a root beer. Soda was something he tried not to drink too often, but after dealing with what he had just had to put up with, he felt he deserved a root beer. Sitting down heavily in a chair, he opened the can and desperately hoped that nothing would come up before he had the chance to finish at least half of the drink.

Flynn looked to Luke. "Only if you call having a fifteen minute job turned into a two hour one fun. I'm starting to think that I need to see if I can have a memo sent to everyone asking them to not try fixing their computers on their own."
Flynn considered offering his assitance, but thought that perhaps it was better that he didn't. He had known a few wheelchair bound people in his life and none of them had been particularly grateful about having someone assume that they needed help.

"By the time I got over to Homicide, it looked like it exploded. The thing was in pieces so I had to put it back together before I could see what was going on. Since there was nothing wrong when I finished, I'm assuming it was just a loose wire or something else just as easy to fix." He gave a shrug and took a drink. He was slightly more talkative when the topic was work, but not by much.

Flynn gave a nod about it being a well deserved root beer. Was it ever! He deserved about three of them after having to put up with the guys in Homicide. "Well, it may not be boring, but I sometimes wish Homicide would easy up on their computers a little. I'm over there so often that I should probably just have a desk there to make things easier."

Flynn couldn't help but chuckle at the comment about Homicide being creepy. "The only thing really creepy about those guys is that they manage to mangle computers like my cat mangles shoe laces. Still, having a desk there would probably be like inviting them to cause mass computer destruction, so I think I'll keep my desk right where it is."
