Of course, everyone always had something to lose, but Tasha didn’t feel like killing Tony’s mood, especially when his own high spirits were keeping her from being in any way sulky or gloomy. She hated to show that face, much preferring to be seen with a smile and a gentle, approachable nature. Some believed that working around the dead made one hard, and cold, but Tasha liked to break that stereotype, and she was determined to keep it up.
Smiling softly to herself at Tony’s slight hesitation upon seeing Roxie, she shook it away. She was Tony’s friend. She never teased her friends about such things. Tasha believed people moved at their own pace, and she wasn’t about to pressure someone to do something they weren’t ready to do.

“Hey, Tony.” He looked to Tasha and gave her a nod of greeting before looking back to Tony. “What’s up?” He took another drink of his coffee and waited for Tony to tell him what was going on, wondering if it had anything to do with the dead priest. That was a case that was going to be bugging him because, while Mike wasn’t religious (he could just imagine how his love life would go over with the religious sort…) he couldn’t figure out what sort of nutjob it took to kill a priest.
He had just been standing there, really, listening. Well, except for the quick back and forth with Rosengard, but the guy had insulted his shirt. So, having Tony come in looking like he had something to say was a welcomed relief. Mike could only take standing around and listening to people talk- or even standing around and actually talking- for so long before he got bored out of his mind.

Thankfully, Tony was oblivious to Tasha’s knowledge concerning his feelings for the blond CSI. He had always prided himself on being able to hide his own kind of evidence and even though she was one his best friends, he liked to think that not everyone was aware of his perhaps pitiful crush. It was a nice little lie he told himself, although at heart he knew he could never hide something like that from her.
“Fancy giving us a lift to the hospital?” Tony asked Mike, jerking his head slightly to the side to indicate Tasha, knowing that Mike would understand everything he didn’t say. “Somebody needs to collect the clothing for evidence… you don’t mind do you Roxie?” he directed the later half of his question towards the Roxie, even going so far as to flash her a slightly bashful smile.

At Tony’s question about giving him and Tasha a lift to the hospital, Mike gave a nod. “I can’t think of anything else I’m doing.” Plus, it meant that he’d get to be nosy and maybe get the full story from the detectives themselves, a thought that he honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Tony figured out that he was having. After all, Mike could be really nosy when the whim hit him and he had to admit that he wanted to hear about what had happened.
Giving a stretch, he tried to decide if he wanted to get some more coffee to take with him and decided against it, tossing the Styrofoam cup he had been using into the trash can. He didn’t mind people eating or drinking in his car so long as they were careful, but he wasn’t particularly in the mood for more coffee. Although, the soda machine seemed to be calling his name.

Tired though she was, Roxie was nothing if not dedicated to the job. Besides, she was done with her paperwork...kind of. The loose ends could easily be tied up later, when she was at home and rested enough to actually pay attention.
"S'all right, Tony," the blonde flashed a smile that was surprisingly cheery. Ahhh, the wonders of coffee. Tasha received a brief wink before Roxie spoke to Tony again. "Need me to tag along, too?"

There was the million dollar question. They probably didn’t need Roxie to tag along, not if he was being truly honest with himself and if she had been up all night then she was bound to need sleep. Of course if she did come, then it was just another excuse for Tony to spend some time with her. In the end he settled on a compromise, the war raging fiercely in his mind.
“If you want.” Tony smiled as he spoke, the tone and expression making it clear that Roxie would be welcome whatever she decided. “Unless you need to get some sleep…?”

Mmm, sleep. Sleep was good. Sleep was very good, especially when one had been staring at forms and tiny, printed technicalities all night. She could fall into bed with her pup as a space heater beside her and sleep for the rest of the afternoon.
C'mon. You know sleep is for pansies.
With a smirk to no one in particular, Roxie held up a finger toward Tony, 'wait a minute,' the gesture said. There was still a good deal of coffee left in her cup, so she drank it down quickly, vaguely thinking to herself that chugging the stuff really wouldn't help her absorb caffiene any faster. Oh well.
"Ready," she stated when she'd finished. Tony received a playful smile while she stood and began collecting her papers. "Let's blow this pop stand."

It seemed like quite a party was gathering to visit the hospital, collect the evidence and in doing so pop in to check on their wounded friends. Tony really hoped Mike didn’t mind the impromptu group he had managed to round up and who were going to be invaded his car in a matter of moments. He doubted it, but then one could never be too sure.
Tony nodded back at Roxie after she smiled at him, then glanced over at both Mike and Tasha. “You two ready too?” he asked softly, as was his norm. “First we stop off at a coffee house for some real caffeine, then onwards to the hospital?”

“I’m ready whenever you guys are,” Tasha put in with a gentle cheerful note in her voice. The prospect of seeing two good friends in the hospital wasn’t exactly something that put a spring in her step, but she just had to remind herself that, all in all, it could have been worse. The Riveras were alive, and that was what really mattered. They had lost a witness, in what had to be a bizarre turn of events, she was sure, but they were alive. She had to be thankful for that.
Turning her head to the new face in the group, she took a moment, out of courtesy, to address him, “You’ll get used to the rush after a while. We’re not all mad here, I promise.” She smiled in a friendly manner. “Just most of us.” After a beat so he could absorb the words, she added, “I’m Tasha, by the way. I work downstairs. M.E.’s Office.”
They had places to be, but that was no reason to forget her manners.

Continued from: Upstairs Offices, Vice Division; with Glenn.
Ophelia was snorting as she walked into the Break Room in response to Glenn's comment about war, "That would be the latest in how many Vice-wars?" she was, of course, referring to the department rather than the actual war like situation they dealt with on the streets.
The room itself was busy... even for the break Room it was busy and Phee noticed and recognised various faces form various departments, the CSIs and Tash' from the ME's office worked a broad spectrum of cases and at one time or another Phee had spoken to most of them. She raised her free hand in greeting as she made her way to the coffee filter, not wanting to interfere in the conversation. Not yet anyway.

“I’m ready,” Mike said, “and I don’t even mind the thought of coffee in the car, but so help the person who manages to screw up the upholstery.” Okay, so he wouldn’t really do anything and Tony knew that as well as he did, but they also knew that it was a standard warning that Mike always issued when there was to be food or drink had in his car.
Mike didn’t mind the number going to the hospital at all. As far as he was concerned, Tony should know by now that he didn’t mind. Even had he been in the mood to act like he minded, he really wouldn’t have. Mike, however, knew that it was in Tony’s nature to worry about such things and that was fine. After all, Mike was there to point out that he didn’t mind.
When Ophelia and Glenn entered, Mike raised a hand to return the greeting.

Tasha nodded and smiled in understanding at Jon, showing him without mustering her voice that it happened to the best of them, and he would get used to the madness. They all did. She certainly had, after all. Now, she was settled down into the wacky rhythm of the place, and couldn’t imagine having it any other way.
Really, the idea of a ‘full house’ heading to the hospital reassured her. True, it might be a bit overwhelming for the two detectives they were off to see, if they were even all allowed in the room at once, but she had no doubt the Riveras would feel just a little better knowing that their fellow officers were looking out for them, even if only after the incident itself. Still, if Tasha could have prevented the entire thing herself, she knew she would have, but she was realistic enough to know that such hopes were hollow.

“Vice-wars,” Glenn said in response to her retort. “That sounds like a video game or something.” He laughed at the idea of it, not even entirely sure how that kind of game would work at all, but it was enough to amuse him at least, and he settled for taking what he could, and all in stride. “Maybe we could pitch the idea to some big software company, if only for kicks and giggles.”
As Phee waved, Glenn nodded as a general greeting gesture to the room as a whole. Some he recognised and some he didn’t; such was life at any police station, he assumed. He was a Los Angeles guy, born and raised, so he wouldn’t know from experience what other stations were like, having only ever worked in one. With all the faces that came and went, it was no surprise he couldn’t remember all of them.

He had remained quiet as Tasha introduced herself to the new guy and vice versa. Possibly this Jon would think him rude for doing that, but Tony just couldn’t seem to work up the courage to outright introduce himself in such a manner. He was sure that once he ran into Jon in a professional situation, then it would be a different story. He would be Detective Fox and somehow it was just easier to meet new people when he was in his ‘work mindset’.
Tony nodded silently in greeting to the newcomers, starting to feel rather uncomfortable in the room. It was such a small room really, when one took into account the amount of people currently crammed into it. Of course the fact he suffered from claustrophobia which by its very cause made things seem smaller than they actually were didn’t help. He needed to get out of the room and fast, Tony’s breathing becoming ever so slightly more shallow as he lingered by the door, too stubborn to give into his fear until everyone else was ready and about to leave.

Mike noted Tony’s discomfort and pulled his keys from his pocket, heading for the door as he said, “Hate to be rude, but lets get this show road. You know driver calls the shots and I’m ready to get moving.” Okay, so that wasn’t really rude, especially that he could be really rude if he put his mind to it. He didn’t often, but he definitely knew how to if that sort of mood suddenly struck him.
Jerking his head slightly towards the door, he motioned for Tony to go ahead precede him out into the hallway. Mike knew that once they got outside his best friend would be able to relax a bit and with a planned trip to the hospital, it was the perfect excuse to get out of there.
