Flicking his ear in an attempt to encourage another mosquito to go away and leave him alone, Nick found that the run seemed to have helped quite nicely with his excess energy. That was definitely a relief because, while he had functioned over forty-eight hours without sleep or problems, he did enjoy sleeping, especially when he had work the next day. His mind stayed focused easier so long as he managed to get a few hours of sleep.
Sleep, however, was something that he found himself happily willing to put off for as long as need be if it meant getting to spend more time with Lynnette. If she wanted him to stay up a week straight, he would. Certainly, coffee by the truck-load would be needed, but he’d do it. What was surprising Nick most about such thoughts was the fact that he was willing to do anything for Lynnette. All she would have to do was ask and he would do whatever it took to make sure that she got what she wanted. That was extremely strange for him; he was used to thinking of no one but himself. He had never had an occasion in which wanting to make someone happy was his first order of business and yet, at some time he couldn’t even begin to pinpoint, Lynnette had become the most important thing in the world to him and he couldn’t quite figure out what that might mean.

Comfortable lethargy was setting in, and werewolves though they were, they were still wolves, and… well… wolves yawned like any creature. Lynnette proceeded to do so, her head having been tucked in such a fashion that the top of her muzzle gently bumped under Nick’s bottom jaw, and she stopped, and blinked, closing her mouth quietly.
Oops, she thought briefly, and remained still, the proximity having not changed, before she realised… why would he be mad? It couldn’t have hurt him, and he hadn’t protested to the nearness or contact or anything as of yet tonight. It puzzled her to a degree, but reassured and encouraged her at the same time, and before she could hesitate any longer, she gave a slower nudge upward, as if to say ‘thank you for a lovely evening’.
No one had ever been as kind and thoughtful to her as Nick, and she hoped he realised just how grateful she was for that.

Nick had raised his head just a fraction of an inch when Lynnette’s muzzle had bumped his lower jaw, but settled it back comfortably. It wasn’t as if he minded at all and when she nudged him again, this time on purpose, he gave a way of his tail, which whispered gently over the grass. He had never enjoyed himself as much as he had since meeting Lynnette- had never even imagined enjoying himself this much.
He gave a soft sound and shifted slightly, nuzzling her gently before returning to his original position. He wasn’t exactly sure if he had done the right thing by nuzzling her like that and if he hadn’t, he would definitely make it a point to apologize for it when he could actually speak. The last thing he wanted was to make Lynnette uncomfortable.

The return nudge and nuzzle made something deep in her chest and stomach tingle; it was such a strange sensation, and she wasn’t sure she would have been able to describe it if she tried, so she settled for simply feeling it, rather than trying to understand it.
As comfortable as Lynnette was, she knew that time was getting on. Most likely he would have to work tomorrow, and sleep wouldn’t be such a terrible thing. But it would mean ending the moment she was currently enjoying more than anything she had ever been a part of in her life, and that saddened her somewhat. Then again, there was nothing to stop them from repeating this another night; they were rogues… they could do as they wished, and no one could tell them otherwise. That thought brightened her a little again, and she smiled inwardly.
Giving a gentle nudge up again, she lifted her head to meet his gaze; ‘maybe we should head back’. She hoped he could see in her eyes how reluctant she was, but no matter how much they wanted to, they couldn’t stay out there forever.

The gentle nudge caused him to look towards her and he couldn't help but give the soft, rather disappointed whine that came from him. He knew that he needed to go home and get some sleep, but he would have been far happier to just continue staying where they were. To spend more time with Lynnette, he would happily call in sick tomorrow- it wasn't like his boss knew what he was, after all- but if she felt that it was time for them to get going, then he supposed that it was just time for them to get going.
Like Lynnette, the thought that they could do this again when they felt like it cheered him up. The freedom was one of the main reasons that he had never joined a pack; he didn't want to have to answer to Alphas and let someone know where he was going everytime he felt like going out on the town. He had heard that it was common practice for pack wolves to have to go out in groups, and that didn't appeal to him either. Nick was far too much of a free spirit to be bound by pack rules.
Reluctantly, he stood and gave a stretch. He really was not ready to leave, but he had known that the time would come all too soon. With any luck, he would sleep well tonight and be able to convince Lynnette to go out to dinner with him the following night. Unless he decided that that seemed too clingy and possessive, because that wasn't how he wanted to come off. He would have to think about it, but in all likelyhood, he'd call her tomorrow and see if he could talk her into dinner.

The whine made her ears drop back. She had disappointed him. Her heart sank a little, until he rose with a stretch, giving no other sounds of complaint, and she could only assume he felt the same as she did; reluctant, but understanding when it came to the necessity of their heading home. For all Lynnette cared, in all honesty, they could take the scenic route on the way home… she was in no rush to actually get home, but they could at least pretend they were making the effort.
Rising to all fours as well, she rocked back and forward, stretching her limbs with subtle pops of her spine and shoulders, and she even yawned widely, feeling a little sheepish afterwards. She hunkered down almost in embarrassment, and then shook out her lean body, to try and wake herself up. Simply sitting with Nick, leaning on him the way she had, had nearly sent her to sleep, for some reason; she supposed it was the comfort of the situation.
Meeting his equally bright eyes, she perked her ears up a little, and then tilted her head back the way they had come. And then, steadily, she started to walk in that direction, knowing he would be at her side within seconds. That knowledge was more comforting than she could even understand herself.

Nick moved after Lynnette quickly, pushing himself to catch up quickly despite the soreness in his leg. Falling into step next to her, Nick let out a yawn of his own. He had felt bad when Lynnette’s ears had dropped at his whine- he naturally hadn’t meant to make her feel that way- but the fact that she seemed to manage to figure out that everything was still okay made him feel a bit better and when she had and yawned and looked embarrassed about it, he had given a wag of his tail in order to tell her that it was okay.
As they walked, Nick found himself waking up a bit. It had been extremely comfortable sitting like that with Lynnette and drowsiness had started to set in; he was never comfortable enough around another werewolf to get that relaxed.

If she had been in human form, she would have smiled at his yawn, finding it entirely too endearing. Many things about Nick were like that; she enjoyed them too much, or found them too appealing or engaging in some fashion, and she felt that same, odd-yet-not-uncomfortable tightness inside her chest again as they walked beside one another.
Listening to the soft, whispering rhythm of their paws against the welcoming ground below them, she inched to the left subtly and felt her side graze his; a rush of excitement filled her, and she had to contain herself. It had been intentional… and in truth, she was testing herself now; seeing how the littlest things affected her, and she was coming to realise this was not ‘normal’… and yet not ‘abnormal’ either.
It was just new. So new, and fresh and… invigorating. It made her feel awake and alive and almost eager, somehow.
Her yellow eyes looked to his briefly, to see what happened when she looked into his returned gaze… would it be different? God, she was being so foolish… or was she?

When she grazed him with her side, Nick looked to her and met her gaze. He had never met another werewolf's gaze without trying to establish dominance. With Lynnette, however, it was compeletely different. They were equals. He wanted it that way. He preferred it that way. When he met Lynnette's eyes it was... something he couldn't even begin to put into words.
He sidestepped and returned the graze, giving a quick wag of his tail. He had never met anyone like Lynnette before and he knew for a fact that he would never meet anyone like her again. He didn't want to. He didn't need to. So long as Lynnette was there, he would never change his mind on that. His feelings would never change. It didn't matter how long he lived or where his life took him, he knew that he would never be happier than he was when he was with Lynnette.

Lynnette had never felt especially dominant in her life; if she had been able to glimpse into Nick’s thoughts and realised how he felt about their equality, she would have been genuinely touched. Through her life, males had treated her like a lesser creature; a subordinate… inferior. Not being treated that way by a male wolf was… indescribable, really. All she knew was that she could never go back… not after this. Not after Nick.
She felt not unlike the schoolgirls depicted in terrible cliché movies or TV soap operas as Nick grazed her side, and she was glad she was in wolf form. God forbid she giggled and acted girly at such a motion from her companion, and she was also relieved she couldn’t blush as a wolf, either. It sent a little jolt of anticipation through her, inexplicable but not unwelcome and she looked to him again, yet again wishing she had a tail of her own to wag.
This time, when she moved close, she stayed close, no longer grazing and stepping away. She expected he wouldn’t push her away, and that made her feel safe and wanted. She couldn’t put into words how much she cherished that feeling.

Nick had spend a good part of his existence as a werewolf trying to avoid others of his species; he had been far too afraid of them at first to encounter one without running the other direction and then he had gotten cocky, challenging their dominance in order to prove that he wasn't a pushover any more. With Lynnette though, he had no desire whatsoever to do that- he hadn't since meeting her and, had he known how she had been treated by males in the past, he would have gotten extremely angry on her behalf. She was the first friend he had allowed himself to have in over five centuries- she was more to him than just a friend, far more- and he was likely to get very put out with anyone who treated (or had treated) her wrong.
When Lynnette moved close again and this time stayed, Nick looked to her again and gave yet another wag of his tail. He loved having her close. If he had his way, they would never part, not even for a moment, but he supposed that was silly. He wasn't nearly possessive enough to seriously expect her to be within his sight at all times- he would attempt drowning himself in his bathtub before he allowed himself to get like that. Besides, they had to be away from each other sometimes. He had to work and they did have to go back to their own apartments at some point. Even so, that didn't change the fact that he wanted to spend as much time as he could with Lynnette.

His scent, she realised, was quickly becoming a favourite of hers, and even though it had only been an unconscious act on her part, she had it memorised; the little details and intricacies of it; the slight musk, and the strength and reassurance of it. It was just him, and as she walked close to him, she breathed in deeply, feeling a warmth flood her chest as she pulled it in.
Her thoughts had quieted; no more inner chidings about acting foolish. Something about tonight, the run and the proximity and the openness despite its silence, had opened something inside of her, and now, the thought of closing it again frightened her more than she understood. That fear made her think that perhaps… though she couldn’t quite give any of it a name, maybe she shouldn’t think about closing it away again.
But just how far could she go before she reached the point of no return? And what if it went wrong? She wasn’t sure what exactly would or could go wrong, but she almost shuddered at the thought, and watched their path, deeply pensive, before she realised, with a mental click, that they were almost back to the bushes where they had transformed.

When Nick realized that they were nearly back to the transformation spot, he found himself rather disappointed. As soon as they got back to their building, the night would come to an end and he wasn't looking forward to that at all. Maybe he could get 'lost' on the way back home... That or just see if she wanted to take the most scenic route possible. The last one definitely seemed perfect, so he would have to make sure that he asked. If she didn't like the thought, then they wouldn't. But if she did, then the night wouldn't have to end so soon.
He knew that the night had been good for him. Nick had been needing something like this for a long time and he knew that it wouldn't have been the same if he hadn't been with Lynnette. He never would have been able to relax so thoroughly around anyone else. Of that he was certain.

She fully intended to suggest a scenic route herself, if he wasn’t already thinking of it; she wasn’t egotistical enough to think he was debating it for the same reasons though… but she couldn’t deny that she was encouraged by his behaviour, perhaps more than she should have been, but it felt right, and she wasn’t about to stop herself from noticing something that made her feel positive for a change.
But now that they had gone through with it, she was so glad she had suggested the run, and that he had agreed. She had been worried, for a while, that it had been a bad idea, but the events of the evening had completely blown her concerns out of the water, and she was left feeling relieved and pleased.
When they came to the clearing, she came to a stop, and looked to him gratefully; relaxed and optimistic. After she managed to slowly take her eyes from his, she moved past him to head behind the bushes where she had left her clothing, folded and pushed just under the protection of the foliage so it wouldn’t be found by any foolish hikers or nosy animals.
She had never felt so disappointed about having to change from wolf to human before… but shaking off that thought, she stretched, and called on the transformation.

At the look she had given him upon coming to the clearing, he had given yet another wag of his tail. He had enjoyed himself and even his fall couldn't change that. If he had been out on his own, it would have been enough to make him just call it a night and go home. That or he would've had to transform before he could have gotten out of the hole and then he would have called it a night and gone home mad. As it was, though, Lynnette's presence had made everything seem better.
Going over to his own cluster of bushes, Nick called on his transformation, shifting and listening to bones crack and reshape. He had always hated the transformation process, but it was always worth it in the end- it didn't matter which was he was going with it- so he got over it quickly. As soon as he was human again, he pulled his clothes on and stepped out from behind the bushes, starting slowly towards the car, waiting for Lynnette.
