"I promised him," Regina said in a strangled voice. "I promised him that everything would be okay, and now he's going to burn alive in there." It was unthinkable, she'd given him her word that she would look out for him and Regina didn't give her word all that often, she wasn't the type to make serious promises at the drop of a hat. There was no way that she was going to stay out here, none, nothing Gabriel could say to stop her. "Look," she added in a hard voice. "Someone needs to sweep the building for survivors before the fire department get here, and someone needs to defend the parking lot. I'm going."
That was that.
Regina took off before Gabriel could stop her. Running full tilt towards the building she vaulted her way in through a burning window, singeing her hand as she went. It hurt, she swore in thick French under her breath but it would be nothing to what she would feel if she didn't go looking for Mikhail. If she didn't at least try.

Casey had been wiping at his eyes with the heels of his hands when Lee landed, he heard the other male's shoes scuff the concrete and then he was forcing his vision to clear, to focus, so he could see Regina. Right as Lee grabbed at him to get his attention he was noticing the exact same thing his friend had already picked up on. Krysti was nowhere to be seen. "Shit," was all he said, his voice rough from a mixture of smoke damage and fear. He could see Regina clearly now but not the other female who made up the fourth member of their little group.
That was when Regina started moving, at first too fast for him to really take it in but then his brain caught up with what he was seeing and he realised where she was going. Back inside. "Shit." Casey took off without thinking, grabbing roughly at Lee's sleeve as he went but letting go almost as soon as he'd gotten a grip, it was just to signal to the other male that he was going back in as well. He skidded on the asphalt of the lot as he turned too fast, one hand going down to the ground so he could balance himself before he followed Regina through the same window she had used to make her way into back inside the burning building.

Time seemed to lose almost all meaning -- at least as far as awareness went -- as he sat there on the hard concrete of the parking lot staring at nothing in particular, only really conscious of Penelope's presence at his side. There was movement on several sides, he could hear voices -- some raised and others at normal volume -- but make out none of the words. Finn was still conscious but distant, his mind was drifting more than a little and when he blinked it was sluggishly that he did so.
It was only when Penelope gave his hand a small squeeze that he came out of that daze and it was just as someone -- who presumably had come out of it a short time ago -- ran back into the burning hotel. A flash of dark hair was all he really saw before a pair of others went careening after her, one of them skidding on the concrete in their haste. It took Finn's sluggish brain a few seconds to figure out just who he had seen and when the identities registered in his mind he said and did nothing by way of response, instead just turned to look at Penelope, eyes a little narrowed in a question: what had all that been about?

Charlotte wished there was more she could do. As more members of the pack came spilling out of the ruined shell of what had only a short time ago been their home she felt the lump form in her throat once again, the tears returning to her eyes, stinging and making her blink before she lifted one hand and rubbed them away, turning her attention elsewhere, away from the bloody and battered bodies of people she recognised, people she called family and friends. At least they were alive. That was what she told herself as she focused once again on the pink-haired she-wolf sitting close beside her.
"They're not going to do that," she told Imogen, reaching up with one hand and laying it gently on her fellow wolf's upper arm. "See?" She looked around her, at the figures of people she had known for years, decades in some cases. Centuries. "And more are coming." Regina had just run back inside, Casey and Lee had chased after her, presumably to help her in her attempt to retrieve Mikhail. Charlotte hadn't been able to keep from overhearing. "We'll get out of this, honey. We'll be okay." They had to be.

Penelope wasn't really aware of time anymore, she wasn't aware of much beyond the presence at her side and his hand in hers. She was vaguely aware of the others around them, their voices reaching her ears but the words not really making sense to her. Penelope didn't have the energy to focus on anything that was going on around her, if there was any danger there were plenty of others that would catch it before she had to react. In truth none of it mattered to her beyond the male at her side, her focus on him and the way he wasn't really there.
When she noticed Finn come out of his daze she caught movement closer to the hotel, someone moving back into the burning building, followed by two others. It took Penelope a moment longer than normal to realise who it was she saw run back into the hotel. She looked towards Finn and saw the way his eyes narrowed in question. She shrugged slightly in response before her tired brain realised what or rather who the three had run back into the building to find. Personally she couldn't imagine running back in there for anyone other than the male at her side, there wasn't anyone in the pack that she would risk her life for apart from Finn. She looked back at the building briefly before looking back at Finn again. "I guess they're going to find Krystiana, she's not out here," she said, her voice betraying just how exhausted she was.

Penelope's voice was clear enough at this proximity and he turned his head -- slowly so as not to unbalance himself, he knew that was a risk with the blood loss and the silver that had worked its way into his system -- to look at the burning building once more. "Madness," he mumbled, his voice a little thicker than he cared to admit, even to himself. Finn felt his eyes track upward, from the ground level right up to the roof but it didn't linger on the highest point for long, it made him feel dizzy in a way he didn't appreciate. "Going back in there." Even for a friend, and really, what use was it? The place was coming down around the ears of whoever was left inside and Krystiana didn't strike him as the type to be of much use in a dangerous situation.
"It's suicide," he said, speaking only to Penelope with his voice relatively low but he wasn't making any particular effort to keep his thoughts between the two of them, there were others in the parking lot close enough to overhear what he was saying if they were paying attention but why would they be doing that? They all had their own problems. There were unconscious pack members littering the ground, dead bodies scattered amongst the living, someone was crying. Besides, Finn had never been the type to much care who heard what he thought of anyone else or their actions.

She saw the way Finn took care with turning his head and she knew it was for fear of any nausea from the blood loss and silver that had entered his system, she couldn't help but worry about him even though she knew that he would be okay and back to normal in a few days. She looked at him as he spoke; the way his voice sounded was odd, the smoke damage probably not helping with that. "Absolute madness," she agreed with another look towards the burning building. The place was coming down and before too long all that would be left would be burning rubble.
"You're right," she said in reply to his statement and like him she didn't make too much of an effort to keep her thoughts to them. It wasn't like anyone would be shocked to overhear such talk from them, maybe it was a little insensitive but then neither Penelope or Finn were known for their sensitivity when it came to the rest of the pack. There was too much going on in the parking lot anyway so she doubted anyone was paying them any attention at all. All that she really cared about was that they had made it out alive, who else survived didn't really matter to her and it wasn't exactly a secret that she didn't really think much of most of the others in the pack.

If anyone else had figured out his behaviour, the slowness of his movements and the slightly distant look in his eyes, Finn would hate it. Penelope wouldn't take advantage of any signs of weakness and so she was permitted to read those signs for what they really were but not anyone else. It was one of the reasons he'd distanced himself from the rest of the group, why he'd sat as far away as he had while at the same time setting them between himself and the burning hotel. If any of the enemy wolves were going to come out of that building he and Penelope would have the best chance of getting clear. That suited Finn perfectly.
Just as he was about to reply to Penelope, to say something else about the foolish actions of particular members of the pack, another chilling and resonating howl rang up from the side street. Finn couldn't stop the way his muscles tensed, pain flaring through his wounded shoulder and lancing across his chest and down his arm but he didn't feel it in the wake of that shock. He felt the fear though. As much as he wished he didn't he did, it flooded through his system, cold and gripping, and he didn't realise he'd tightened his hold on Penelope's hand as his gaze locked on the opening to the street. Waiting. Dreading.

Gabriel heard it too and it whipped his head around towards the source, unmistakable even in the way it echoed and carried. Briefly he glanced to his side at Mateo but then he turned his attention on the group who had just leapt down from one of the upper windows. Vanessa and Cassius were heading their way and in a bid to hasten their pace he raised his voice to call their names. "Come on," he all but snapped at them as he waved for them to hurry, to get behind himself and Mateo and to the relative safety of the group.
That was when he saw Alair. The way he was holding one of his legs hinted at some kind of injury, he had stumbled upon landing and whether he had smoke in his eyes or he was feeling some kind of pain it was obvious to Gabriel that the young male was disoriented. Unlike Vanessa and Cassius, who were running towards the safety of the group, Alair was moving away. Gabriel felt panic rise in his chest, his gaze moving towards the opening to that street, so close to the disoriented young wolf, and he raised his voice again, crying out only one thing, a single name, to try and bring Alair back to his senses and away from danger before it was too late. Even as he shouted he took a step forward, fully prepared to race forward and grab the other wolf if necessary.

The howl tore her attention away from Finn and whatever he'd been about to say, the sound was clearly intended to scare the surviving wolves and it succeeded. As much as she didn't want to admit it the sound had caused fear to blossom in her and it was only when she felt Finn's grip on her hand tighten that she realised it had also had a similar affect on him. She was still looking towards the opening to the street when the small group landed just a few feet from the opening the howl had come from.
Penelope didn't really care for any of the other wolves that had called this place home, most of them didn't really deserve to be wolves but that didn't mean she wanted to watch any of them get torn to pieces by the owner of that howl. She heard Gabriel call out to Alair as he went stumbling towards where the howl had come from, the rest of the group he'd been with apparently oblivious to the fact one of their number had gone the wrong way. She turned her gaze back towards Finn, her own grip on his hand had tightened in response to what seemed to be unfolding in front of them, "He's going to get killed," she said without any trace of real emotion beyond her own tiredness. It was an observation and one that would be pretty unpopular with most of the pack but Finn would take it in the way it was meant.
