Cassius started awake, momentarily disoriented by having fallen asleep upright. Shaking the dust of sleep from his head Cassius glanced over to his now cold cup of tea and sighed, yet another good cup gone to waste. Closing the well warn copy of Notre Dame De Paris resting in his lap he stood, stretching the crick from his back, and started to place the book back on the shelf when he realized what it was that had woken him.
The acrid smell of smoke hung in the air but it was not this smell that was so alarming as the faint sent of fear that was mingled with it. Sleep's grasp now fully shaken off, Cassius began to notice the muffled sounds of struggle and panic from all about the hotel. A quick glance out the window confirmed that there was indeed a reason to panic. The smoke seemed to be poring out of some of the lower rooms and the orange glow of flames could be seen reflecting on the parking lot. There was no possibility this was some kind of prank gone wrong, they had been attacked, and he had slept through it.
Cursing himself out with choice words in three different languages, Cassius snatched up his shoulder holster his slipped it on checking the rounds in each gun before adding his extra clips to his belt. He hesitated a moment before reaching for an old basket handled rapier. It was sentimental he knew, but he just couldn't leave it to go up in flames. He strapped the sword to his waist, checking his pockets to be sure his other prized possessions were still on him before dashing out into the hall hoping to discover someone who knew what the situation was, and just how dire things were looking.
