Cole smiled gently. "Don't underestimate the ability you already have. I've sparred with wolves older than yourself who weren't at this level. You've got skill that could certainly be put to good use, but before we even think about that, it's best we concentrate on getting you through the full moon, and teaching you how to manage that properly. If you've been going through it for a year by yourself, then it obviously hasn't affected you as much as it could have, but don't hesitate to ask about anything, as always."
Mara could definitely become one of the pack's fighters, if she continued to improve. He had no doubt that some of the other, current fighters would offer to help her with tricks and adapted techniques, and he made a mental note to mention it to one or two of them sometimes. She certainly had the potential; she just needed the control, and the discipline.
"Speaking of the full moon," Cole began anew, meeting her gaze, "there's something that we do here at the hotel, when it comes around. It concerns younger wolves like yourselves. Of course, you understand that, in my position, I have to think about the safety of the entire pack, and at the same time, worry about keeping our existence... quiet." He smiled softly for a moment. "So, every time the full moon comes around, the younger wolves, along with a few 'guardians' spend that time downstairs. In the basement."

Mara's stomach lurched. Her eyes flashed briefly and she shuffled her feet to keep herself grounded. She doubted that Cole meant that to sound like it did to her - that she would be restrained - clearing her throat, she licked her suddenly dry lips.
"While I appreciate that I will not be worried about hurting anyone..." She looked him in the eyes - "The change is painful enough without the ominous sound to that which you just said..."

"Don't worry," he assured her, his voice sincere and relatively soft. He knew how that must have sounded, and the flash to her eyes was a definite hint at her wariness. "It sounds bad, but it's nothing like that. No chains or restraints. We have... 'rooms'. Younger wolves remain inside them while the change takes over, so they won't hurt themselves, or anyone else. The solitude helps keep the wolf calm. If there's nothing representing a threat, or resembling prey, then the full moon usually passes by without incident." He couldn't really remember the last time something out of the ordinary had happened during the 'process'.
He sighed lightly. "I know it sounds like a lot. If it would make you feel any better, I can take you down now, and show you the area. You'll see it's not as bad as your imagination probably led you to first believe."

With a small shrug, she nodded. "Ok." Stepping behind the screen, she pulled her original clothing back on, trying to calm herself. "By the way..." she called, "Thank you for the compliment." It sounded trite, but his remark on her ability had pleased her wolf to no end.
Stepping out again, she dropped the gear into what appeared to be a hamper for that purpose, and moved to stand at the edge of the mat. She bowed off the mat in proper ettiquite, and shifted her attention back to Cole. "Information is the cure for fear and ignorance... I hope it will be true in this case as well." Looking at the door, she said quietly - "Though I don't think anything would ever be as hard as going it alone."

"And I'm lucky... because I can say in all honesty that that was something I never really had to worry about, like you did." Smiling softly again, he added, "But now that you're here, if it's your choice, then you're welcome to stay. So long as you're comfortable with it, then it can be your home as much as it is everyone else's." He knew that he had to discuss it with the other three leaders, really, to keep it fair, but he was confident; Mara had the potential to be a good addition to the pack.
Having moved off the mat as well, he returned the equipment to where it belonged, and readied himself to leave the room. Taking his swords from the bench where he'd left them, he looked back at Mara. "And don't worry about the compliment - I meant it." Nodding towards the doorway, he said, "Okay, I'll take you down, and show you the area; let you make up your own mind about how we handle it."

Mara felt her wolf curling through her. Being part of a pack seemed to suit it down to the ground, and she gave a smile. Cole was a surprise... she wasn't sure if he was a leader alone or if he was going to be a friend. All she knew was that he was offering her a life without loneliness - even if she didn't make friends in the pack, it would be better being with the people that knew what she was than out in the world.... and possibly dealing with another horror like that poor family. or worse, nearly ending up in jail again. She gave an involuntary shudder.
Moving to the door, she nodded. "I'm sure you're going to be better than any of the alternatives. She walked out the door and paused to wait for him to lead the way.

Continued from: The Hallway
Dimitri rolled his shoulders somewhat, as a way of warming up. He wasn't one for physical, hand-to-hand combat--unless he was in his swift moving wolf form. He was more discreet. Above all he loved the power that came from looking through a scope and blowing the brains out of anything.
As grim as it was. It was Dimitri's way of showing loyalty to his alphas. As well as to his pack.

“Well if it isn’t my favourite Czech sniper.”
The brunette standing in the doorway smiled brightly, her thumbs hooked lightly in the pockets of her dark slacks as she let a light laugh slip out of her. She had tried her best to effectively ‘creep up’ on Dimitri, wondering if she would genuinely take him by surprise this time; she had only managed a small handful of times in the past, not like with William, who had the tendency to ‘zone out’ when he didn’t have anything to occupy his time.
Kennedy had been up for some time, and as such, had already caffeinated and fed herself. She was energised, and ready to let off some steam. Her plans for the day pretty much consisted of her morning workout, followed by some lunch, and then a hearty nap before her intended shift in the basement with the young wolves who would transform. William and Mileena had worked the first night, so it was only fair that she take her turn, and do her part.
“Not interrupting am I, Dimi’?”

"And if it isn't my favorite...um...Can't think of anything. Get back to me." Dimitri chuckled, trying not to sound as alarmed as he felt. Kennedy had a habit of sneaking up on him...but he didn't really want her to exactly know that. The older wolf had just enough to want to get her a collar with a little bell on it. But then, there would come the shame of admitting that she made him jump.
"Interrupting what? I'm standing here trying to figure out if we have a shooting range in this hotel or not." Dimitri cocked his head to the side with a grin. He wanted to blast things out of existence. Not make a fool out himself by getting beat up by inanimate objects. Or being sore after using said inanimate objects.
"Watching the pups tonight?" Dimitri wondered if he should volunteer for the job as well. Since...he wasn't much with interacting with the young ones. Then again, he wasn't much of a hand-to-hand fighter at all.

More than once Dimitri had teased about getting her that collar, and more than once, Kennedy had laughed it off like a good sport. She had never really taken it to heart, and it was only rarely that she managed to notice his starting in the first place; this was not one of those times, and if he was surprised, he hid it well. But then, he was older than her; he had more experience, and his wolf was perhaps more sly and cunning than her own… maybe.
“Oh, Dimi’… of course we have a shooting range. You’re getting old,” she teased affectionately, in her sisterly manner, striding into the room with a casual ease, and moving to the far side of the room. Pulling the cover from the targets there, she revealed the circular boards with coloured rings, and old impact marks; they had been built to withstand dozens of bullets before finally weakening to the point of uselessness. From the looks of the one currently in use, it wouldn’t be long before they needed it. “I’ll let you off. Even old timers get confused by the moon.” She only ever teased, and only because she loved them all so much — they all knew it.
“That would be me, yes.” She nodded, her dark, lightly curled hair bouncing naturally around her shoulders with the movement, as she stepped away from the revealed target. “You’re welcome to join me. Will and Mileena took the shift last night. From what I understand, the new wolf caused a bit of a scene, but it’s all wrapped up now. Almost sorry I missed it.” Again, she was teasing. She remembered what it was like to fight with the wolf… and lose. “I’ll even bring a pack of cards and some soda.” She flashed a smile.

His wolf mentally growled at his counterpart. Full moons were not a time for thinking. Or putting anything into a great amount of thought. It only added strain and sometimes heartache. "Memory's the first to go," Dimitri chirped, glaring at the younger wolf slightly. He came to understand Kennedy's teasing and little quirps about his age. She had done it to several other older pack members. At first his reaction was a little strong, threatening death...but he'd lighten up over time.
The Czech flipped out one of his handguns, aimming it at one of the circular boards before facing the barrel at the ground. "I heard about that...I was asleep though." Dimitri huffed slightly. His wolf was slightly bitter towards not being able to stand by its alpha and protect him. Although...if Dimitri had been there. It would have ended slightly worse than it did. "The only card game I'm remotely good at is 'Go Fish'...and I like Root Beer."
When Dimitri meant remotely he met, it was the only card game he knew how to play. But if he openly said that to Kennedy...then there would be a situation on his hands. Of the mocking horribly sort. Dimitri aimmed his gun back at the target before pulling the trigger. In the short time he fired his weapon, he created a smiley face.

“I think we’re all lucky Kyle stood down when he did, or the new wolf would have ended up in bits.” Kennedy scrunched up her nose. “You know what he’s like, especially when it’s Cole that he’s protecting. It’s like someone’s put a pair of blinkers on him… or something.” Mornings were not the best time for the female fighter to be making sense, but she shrugged it off, and moved further away from the targets so Dimitri could fire without worrying about the ricochet posing a threat to her. They were all fiercely protective of the pack, and its leaders, but Kyle really did take the cake, they all knew that; he hadn’t become the self-proclaimed bodyguard by being nonchalant about it, after all.
The smiley face on the target made her laugh, the same light, free sound that was her trademark of sorts. “Cute,” she told him, thumbs still hooked in her jeans’ pockets, leaning back slightly against the wall not far away, before she reverted to the previous topic.
“Hey, I can play ‘Go Fish’. I’m flexible.” She gave a smirk, halfway towards making a pun, given her ‘gymnastic’ tendencies. “And root beer it is. One thing though… if Devon’s drank all the Mountain Dew, I’m gonna hunt him down and give him the noogie of a lifetime.”

Dimitri grinned as he pulled the trigger of his handgun again. "I'm amazed I didn't hear anything going on." Dimitri chewed on his bottom lip, before putting away his gun and stuffing his hands in his pockets. The Czech sighed heavily, pleased with his work. Other than the the smiley face, he hit the bull's eye five times in a row.
The sniper grinned at Kennedy's little pun. "What is the appeal of Mountain Dew, anyway?" Dimitri chuckled joining the fighter over by the wall.

The younger fighter laughed. “It’s a kick, Dimi’. Either you love it or you hate it. It’s like Jeremy with his Mello… whatever it is that he drinks.” She shrugged under her tank top and white shirt. She wished she’d brought her pistols in with her, so she could get in a little practise with them as well, but she would settle for the more physical kind of exercise.
“Beats coffee any day, in my opinion.” She looked to him as he joined her. “I’m guessing you don’t like it, then,” he said simply, but with a bright smile all the same. Then again, it took a lot to make Kennedy stop smiling.

Dimitri scoffed loudly at her comment. Nothing beat coffee. Greatest invention humans ever made. Was it even an invention? Greatest discovery humans ever made. "I highly doubt it beats coffee...especially how it was made before Frap-a-whoey-whatsit's were made and the creation of a hidious thing called 'Iced Coffee'...also expresso." Dimi' said pushing up his glasses up the rim of his nose.
Dimitri liked the simple things in life. Nothing to fancy or showy for him. Traditional more so than anything. Somehow, the older wolf got the feeling Kennedy came here for a purpose. Most likely for the same reason as he did. His wolf paced, feeling slightly restless. Dimitri always used his weapons to fight...which didn't give the wolf much activity.
"Want to spar?" He asked glancing up at the ceiling. His eyes glowing a feint deep red from his wolf's inherent restlessness.
