While Drake naturally wasn’t completely comfortable at the moment, he could see himself becoming so as time went on if things continued as they were going. Certain, the welcome he had received in the lobby had made both him and his wolf want to turn and just head off again, but he had honestly expected nothing different. Everyone had acted on instinct to the presence of a strange wolf in their home and the reaction had shown him that the fighters there- they always seemed to have a certain kind of air about them that, for whatever reason, made them easy to distinguish, at least, to Drake- were ready to go and were very well trained.
“Thanks for that. I’ll make sure to keep it in mind.”

Cole was a dangerous individual, and anyone who couldn’t tell that at a glance was a fool. Even Jess, normally so distant and lost in the clouds could tell that Cole Stanton was a force to be reckoned with, and the currently relaxed pose wouldn’t last. Sometimes, Jess wished it would last longer because if anyone in the pack deserved to be able to relax and have a good time, it was their Alpha. She knew though that the very nature of his position meant he would never be able to truly relax and it troubled her.
She continued to smile as Heidi gently teased Drake, another sure sign that he had been accepted into the pack. He was one of them now and she couldn’t help but wonder when Jeremy and Violet would greet him in their own, very special way. Jess only hoped they didn’t go as far as dying his hair.

Heidi had met Cole when he was Beta male, and it had been quite early into his ‘promotion’ to such a pack position at that; still, his personality and behaviour had changed very little since that time all those years ago, and along with the two other leaders, she was one of those best-equipped to read him with full efficiency. Of course, his behaviour had changed for a while, when the previous Alphas had declined mentally, and it had affected him in turn, before he had finally ‘snapped’ as it were and challenged the previous Alpha male to the fight that had won him the leadership of the pack, and therefore the right and duty to protect it as he saw fit. Cole still bore a few scars, albeit subtle ones, from that vicious fight; ‘souvenirs’, in a way.
Glancing to Drake as the younger male spoke, he smiled again, nodding his head in acknowledgement of what Heidi had said. Drake really would have no trouble telling them apart; he would be able to distinguish Cole and Steven simply because of his own status as the Alpha, and therefore the figurehead of the pack. And as Heidi had said, she and Dia were as different, appearance-wise, as night and day.
“You can feel free to wander around the hotel at your own pace. There are no rooms, save for others’ bedrooms of course, that are off limits. We have pretty much everything you’d expect; a library, training room, music room, dining room, lounge, and of course, there’s the roof and the courtyard. You can explore to your heart’s content.”

"And goodness knows there's enough of this place to explore," Heidi added. "I can't say any of us ever feel particularly crowded in this building. You'll find places where you can be social, and also places where you can be alone if you prefer. But if you ever need help finding anything, don't hesitate to ask -- we'd all be glad to show you the way."
A sudden noise emanated from her computer, and she glanced at the screen. "Oh, well, look at that, the Sphinx is done," she remarked, fully aware that such a comment would puzzle the males. "Take a look, Jess." She turned the laptop on her desk so that all three visitors could view the accomplishment of Heidi's little Egyptian world. Glancing at Cole, she smirked and added, "Yes, Chief, I'm actually playing a game."

Drake thanked Cole for the permission to explore to his heart’s content- he thought that unpacking was definitely going to wait until he was finished having a look around. He was curious to learn the layout of the Hyperion, see how everything was laid out and perhaps even manage to discover a favorite place, though he imagined that was going to come only after a bit of trail and error. Even so, he was interested in exploring and meeting more of his new pack mates.
At the comment Heidi made about the Sphinx being done, Drake tilted his head slightly in curiosity, studying the screen when she turned the laptop on her desk. It looked vaguely familiar to him and he thought that it was likely he had seen someone playing it at some point. Maybe he was even remembering having seen the back of the game box at some point. He wasn’t entirely sure, but it didn’t really matter, because when Heidi made the comment about actually playing a game, he realized that it much be at very least a semi-unusual occurrence. It was going to take a while for him to learn everyone’s names and faces, let alone quirks and habits, but Drake was more than up for the challenge.

Jess may have been born into the pack before Cole took it over, but in her mind it had always been his and the time with the pervious leaders was little more than a distant memory for her. The Cole she knew then was still the Cole she knew now. Dangerous when needs be, but a deeply caring and protective man at all times. Drake had chosen well when he came here.
She looked over as Heidi spoke, a pleased smile on her face as she took in the Sphinx and the clearly pleased Egyptian’s milling around it. While Jess might not have known much about computer games in general, even if she hadn’t been speaking to Heidi about it before it would have been clear that was a very good thing and so she was pleased that the Beta female had been able to do it. Jess highly doubted she had the right temperament to get that far in that sort of game and so anyone who did had her respect.

Cole’s smile at Heidi’s words was knowing, and amused, his head nodding as he allowed himself a quiet chuckle. Old though they were, the four leaders, they were just as likely to be found playing one game or another as any of the youngsters in the pack; age and experience didn’t eradicate that urge to relax and enjoy some kind of entertainment, no matter what type it was. Dia had her creativity, Heidi and Steven both played games to varying degrees, as well as baking for the former, and Cole? Well, Cole wasn’t immune, but he tended to vary his method of unwinding; training, translating, the occasional, under-wraps round of Mario Kart with his Beta male…
None of them could say they didn’t have their own brand of fun from time to time.
“Well,” he said calmly after a while, glancing to his Beta female, and the other two wolves in the room, “no rest for the wicked.” Cole smiled, glancing at Jess, before turning his attention back on Drake once more. “The basic rule for exploring is that if you find a locked door, don’t try and open it, and if it smells like a bedroom, it usually is. Follow that piece of advice, and you’ll be just fine.” There were other things he had to check on before he could relax fully in any way, hopefully in the company of his mate, especially after she had announced the good news to him in bed that morning. Cole wanted to ask her how and when she wanted to tell the pack and discuss the options.
Giving a friendly and respectful nod to Heidi, he turned to take his leave from the room.

The moment she was left alone, Heidi decided, she was going to call Marion. But that didn't mean she was in any particular rush for either Jess or Drake to leave her office. After returning Cole's nod and watching him depart, she started explaining to the younger wolves what exactly was happening in the computer.
"It's a city-building game in ancient Egypt," she explained. "I'm working my way through the different ages of Egyptian history, and eventually will rule the whole kingdom as Pharaoh. Right now I'm in a scenario where I have to build three pyramids and the Sphinx, which is what was just completed."
After a pause, she continued, "Seth and Nenet don't know that I have this game, by the by -- I shouldn't like to bring up any unpleasant memories for them. They're from Egypt," she added for Drake's benefit, "and are the only surviving members of their original pack. So if you could please not mention it to them, I'd be grateful."

“They won’t hear about it from me,” Drake promised her. He wasn’t going to be bringing up anyone’s gaming habits with anyone, so that wasn’t something that she had to worry about, even once he did learn who Seth and Nenet were.
Drake knew that there was quite a big project ahead of him. Rayne’s pack had never had so many members in the time that he had been with them and he was slightly overwhelmed at the knowledge that he had so many wolves to get to know. Names, faces, personalities… When multiplied by the number that Cole had given him, it really was a lot of information to figure out and keep track of. He didn’t doubt that he could do it, but it was getting there that would be the hardest part.

Jess simply nodded her head in reply to Heidi’s request, silently promising that she wouldn’t bring up the subject with either of them. The she-wolf couldn’t imagine a conversation with Nenet at least that would somehow revolve around to any sort of computer game – Seth perhaps, but the other Egyptian wolf simply didn’t appear to have any interest in entertainment in that way, not that Jess found such thinking a problem. Nenet always had the prettiest dresses and matching outfits, always knew how to put her hair up just so. She was a nice person and so was Seth, so she didn’t want to say anything that might upset them.
She glanced sideways at Drake, staring at him with slight curiosity. Something new was always exciting, and fun. If Cole was fine with leaving the newcomer alone with Heidi and herself then he really, really seemed like he was going to stay and that was nice.

Drake supposed that he should leave Heidi and Jess to what they were doing before he and Cole came in, especially since the alpha had left and he was beginning to really feel as if he was interrupting something. It wasn’t anything that Heidi or Jess was doing- far from it because they both seemed very nice and likeable- but he was sure that they had been having a conversation of some sort before Cole had brought him in and he thought that it was polite to let them get back to it.
Offering them both a smile, he said, “I’ll let the two of you get back to what you were doing. It was nice getting to meet both of you and I look forward to getting to know both of you along with the rest of the pack.”

"All right." Heidi favored the newcomer with another smile. "It's been a pleasure to meet you, Drake. I think you're going to fit in just fine around here; we're glad to have you. After tonight's moon I'll expect to see you in the kitchen with everyone else -- I think it'll be waffles tomorrow. I make breakfast on full moon mornings to help everyone get their strength back up."
To Jess, she said, "You'll vouch for my cookery, won't you?" Her brown eyes glinted with humor.

Like Heidi, Jess gave Drake another smile, again one of her somewhat absent expression but her heart was clearly in it and she just as clearly didn’t mean anything by the fact it didn’t seem that the whole of her attention was focused on the here and now. Drake would learn, just as everyone in the pack had already learnt; when it came to Jess she just wasn’t always in the same space mentally as everyone else.
She blinked a few times as Heidi spoke, belatedly realising that the words had been aimed at her and somehow she had managed to drift out the conversation. The expression on the female Beta’s face was one of amusement, indicating some kind of joke had been shared, mind frantically trying to recreate as much as the words as she could. Jess had been half listening and from what she could tell, she thought it was something to do with cooking. “Heidi doesn’t poison us, that’s for sure.”

Drake gave a bit of a grin at Jess’s words. “That’s always good to know.” It really did seem to him that it wouldn’t be so bad here and for that, he was grateful. He had thought that he had found where he was supposed to be when he had joined Rayne’s pack, but he had never felt as welcome there as he already did at the Hyperion. There was something calming about those that he had met- well, aside from the fighters in the lobby, but he was hoping that they would be easy enough to get along with when they realized that he had been allowed to stay.
“It was great meeting you both.” He focused on Heidi and gave another smile, “And I couldn’t miss waffles. I’ll make sure I’m there.” With that, he gave them both a nod, raised a hand in farewell, and moved out of the room.

Waffles in the morning were always a sign of a good day, Jess believing that not only was breakfast the most important meal of the day but that it set you up for the rest of your day and in more ways than one. If you were down and you had a miserable breakfast then you were almost certainly going to be feeling that way until you went to bed. But if you forced yourself to have a good breakfast, then your mood would start to lift as the day got better. It was a solid theory in Jess’s mind, one of the few things she was determined about, even if only mentally.
And of course waffles made for you by someone else, made with love like the way Heidi made them automatically made any day start off in a very good way indeed. With Drake gone, Jess turned her attention back to the woman in question. “He seems nice.”
