Will they open their eyes and realise we are one?

It was a responsibility Kyle had adopted unto himself without even realising, much like his bodyguard duties in regards to Cole. As a general rule, Kyle was quiet about most of the things he did. Even when he fought he was quieter than most, all about movement and fluidity more than snarling and kicking up a wild fuss. There were exceptions to any rule, but he was usually the near-silent one in any situation, a trait most recognised about him within days of first meeting him. Mara was no different. With Mara, however, that stillness was useful; it kept her empathy in check and he had recognised early in that it was beneficial to her if she could tap into that calm he carried most everywhere with him. If it was useful to her and he had the time to spare, he saw no reason not to be her companion.
"I think I can manage that," he said with a nod, his eyes meeting hers past the shadow of his bangs as they hung around his face. There was no enthusiasm in the traditional sense but he didn't doubt that Mara's keen ears would pick up on the quiet grumble of his stomach at the mention of food, and a good, home-cooked meal at that. Briefly he toyed with the idea of making some kind of remark -- perhaps even a joke, not that it would really sound like one in his voice leaving his mouth -- about being handy with a knife but in the end he opted against it, and instead continued walking at Mara's side in the direction of their destination.

The benefit to being empathic sometimes was hard to find. Mara used to enjoy it - wandering through crowded places and wondering what people were doing with their days. The quiet joy of watching an old couple sit together and talk, the warmth of children as they wandered, their hands safely in their mother or father's as they went about. It was almost textured. She'd accepted it as a gift when she was human, but as a werewolf, it had become almost a curse at times. Slowly but surely she was finding ways to use it to her advantage - it helped that Cole saw it as an advantage and had used her once now to help the pack. That alone had given her a boost in morale. If Cole could see it as useful, then she could turn it back to the gift it had once been.
Kyle's response was typical, and she'd made good timing as the sound of his stomach came to her ears faintly. He liked the idea - and it was through observation and feeling that she knew this. Being open to it made it easier - and as usual, it would be time that would be most beneficial. Her lip curled up in a wry smile - the idea of time was always the answer.
She moved to aim for the kitchen when her empathy felt the warmth change from Kyle. It wasn't a crackle, or the shifting feeling.. it was ...like a fizzing almost. Whisper quiet. For a moment, she was at a loss - but it suddenly hit her what it was... Kyle was amused at something. He'd been thinking something funny - but as usual, had not felt the need to share it.
But in a way... she'd heard it, and for a moment wondered what it was he would have said. But at the same time, she realized he didn't have to say it at all. She'd felt the warmth of it almost like laughter anyway... and it had cheered her. She stopped suddenly, a huff of laughter nearly escaping her.. and then she ran for the kitchen. Sometimes life didn't feel so bad anymore.

Continued from:Owen's Bedroom with Owen
The smile did not escape Marion's notice - and she met it with one of her own as she walked out the door after Zodiac. She walked through the halls, making small comments about doors as they passed. No huge amount of detail, although small suggestions of places that would be better to explore later as he grew more comfortable. She didn't go near the training room - she had a feeling that would be something best left for him to discover on his own when he was ready.
She saw the library door open and smiled to herself before turning to get to her own office. "Here we are. What do you think? Is it me or what?"
She moved smoothly into the room, heading to turn on the coffee machine.

Continued from Midwifery Suite with Wayne.
"A bear or a beaver, that's cute," Rowena laughed as they moved into the hallway. Her fingers wound into her hair and she re-tied a high pony tail, sweeping up stray locks that had come down around her neck over the hours she'd spent painting earlier that day.
Stretching to loosen up her back and let her fingers crunch slightly as she locked them above her head, she tilted her head to the side and turned to consider Wayne beside her."It probably wouldn't hurt to diversify the room a little bit. We wouldn't want anyone to think we discriminate against other animals. The baby might get the wrong idea if it's surrounded by images of wolves from the word go." The red-head was musing aloud as they moved down the hallway towards where she had been storing the equipment that would go into the birthing suite. She was only joking of course; for the most part the baby wouldn't even be spending much time in that room and there was nothing wrong with it being surrounded by wolves anyway, it was going to be living with the real thing from the moment it came into the world anyway. Still, Rowena smiled at her companion as they walked.

As usual Wayne's laughter was light and gentle, his smile easy and soft. "So long as the wolves aren't chasing after the beavers or whatever else you paint then I don't see the harm in it." His shoulders lifted for a moment in a casual, loose sort of shrug and he met her gaze once again as they went on their way from one point in the hotel to another. "Maybe you could stencil in some trees. That would break it up a bit and trees might be a little simpler than ther animals."
Wayne didn't doubt that Rowena could find a way to include other animals if she did get it in her mind to do so but she was already doing so much work for the baby as it was and he didn't like the idea of the midwife overwhelming herself before the birth. They had plenty of time yet, he knew that much, but she had already put in so much effort. It was admirable, more than admirable, and he knew without a shadow of a doubt that the Alphas would forever be grateful for all that she had decided to undertake.

Rowena tapped her fingers to her lips as they walked. "Hm, other animals," she mused aloud. "Like a woodland scene, that would be lovely." Though she was no great artist she was keen on creative endeavours, music might have been her main outlet but she did enjoy decorating and always had.
To the redhead's mind there wasn't enough she could do for the baby and for her Alphas; she needed to be secure in the knowledge that everything was ready, not just in terms of the hotel, not even in terms of Dia and the baby itself but personally. It had been years since she had delivered a baby, Joshua had been the last wolf born into the pack and she still recalled the day that she had eased his mother through the labour with clarity, she remembered holding the baby in her arms and placing him on his mother's belly. It had gone well, and things had come a long way in the two hundred years since, she had better resources at her disposal but she needed to be ready and able to deliver the Alphas' baby just as successfully. The idea of it going badly made her stomach churn.

"I might be able to manage a tree, if you feel you could trust me with that," he said with a light smile, something gentle and harmless. As usual his demeanour was a calm and soft one, something almost soothing and undeniably reassuring even. That was what Wayne liked to think anyway, how he hoped others saw him and he had spent many years hearing how he was the last one people expected to go tearing into a fight. People underestimated him just as much as they might any of the youngsters in the pack, just as much as they might underestimate Rowena herself.
"If not a tree then maybe some of the little rocks and stones. A stream if I prove I can handle it." Keeping the topic light and pleasant was one of the things he always tried to achieve when in Rowena's company; she was his closest friend in the pack and he suspected no one could deny that and her happiness and comfort meant a great deal to him. "I can do those simple birds as well, you know, the ones that are basically one line with the curves to show the wings?"
