Continued from: Heidi's Office with Heidi
"Maybe a video camera," Sissy said with a soft laugh as Heidi stood. She let the Beta move into the hallway before following. "After all, then we would be able to capture all of the action. Whoever doesn't feel like playing could film for us and then we could play it for anyone that doesn't make it to the game. Of course, a regular camera would be good as long as we managed to get photos that show just how ridiculous we're all bound to end up looking."
Sissy wasn't normally one to enjoy looking a fool, especially not in front of any number of the Alphas or Betas, but charades was suddenly sounding like fun and she thought that she would get over her discomfort once they started playing. "Who do you suppose we can convince to play?"

"Well, I wouldn't lay any money on Steven," Heidi said dryly. "In fact, I'll bet you ten dollars he doesn't play." She grinned. "That said, I think Cass and Devon are pretty sure bets. We might even convince Kyle to join us, since he doesn't really have any bodyguarding to do just now. I don't know about the others, although if Cole has nothing else planned, he might participate a little later."
It was an odd, and slightly undignified, activity for the female Beta to have suggested; but once in awhile, she just needed to relax and do something completely silly. It was healthy. And it helped to shake her out of the rut that she feared she was permanently in.

"I never bet money," Sissy said with a shake of her head. It was very likely that Steven wouldn't play, and she knew it. "I never even say I will because I usually end up losing."
She thought for a moment about what Heidi had said. "I don't know if I can actually picture Kyle or Cole playing charades. It's a little easier to conjure up a picture of Kyle playing than it is to see Cole joining in. To be completely honest, I'm surprised that you would even suggest playing it. Charades doesn't seem like something you'd be likely to enjoy, but I guess we all need to loosen up and act a little crazy every now and again, huh? Even if it is in front of however many other pack members. I guess it's better letting them see us at our oddest than someone outside of the pack. Of course, around here, you might not be able to live it down.

Heidi smiled at the younger wolf, amused. "Admittedly, it's not something I do often," she conceded. "But -- well, to be perfectly truthful, I've been a bit worried lately that I'm too boring. I love what I do, but I find it hard to make other people see the appeal in studying history. And then too, I'm starting to realize that I spend too much time buried in my books. My duties to the pack come first, of course, but the more I think about that, the more I think that I ought to make it understood that I'm approachable. If I'm always hidden behind a wall of books, the rest of you aren't going to come to me if you need help, and that's not right." She smiled, a bit sheepishly. "I was thinking on all of this a little while before you knocked, actually. You just gave me the opportunity to attempt what was in my mind already."

"Well, I don't think you're boring. I think that what you do would be fascinating if I had the patience you do for that sort of thing. That's something that makes you the most approachable of the Alphas and Betas. I've personally never seen you lose your patience and the fact that we both like books makes it easier for me to come to you than Cole, Dia or Steven." She made a slightly annoyed face as a bit of hair slipped over her eyes. Shaking it away, she said, "Even so, if you want to show everyone that you're approachable, charades is definately a way to do it. There's nothing like watching one of the higher ups join those of us who are lower on the totem pole in a game that makes us all look equally as goofy."

Heidi laughed. "Well, then, I'll do my best to make a complete fool of myself," she said teasingly. "And I'm glad you feel comfortable coming to me, I really do. I never felt comfortable approaching the Alphas back when I was newer to the pack, but Cole was a Beta and he and I became good friends. It does seem traditionally easier to approach a Beta than an Alpha, I guess."

Sissy grinned. "Now I really do need to find a video camera. Anyone who isn't there isn't likely to believe stories of you playing charades without some proof."
She nodded thoughtfully at the comment about it seeming easier to approach a Beta. "I know it should be easy to go to the Alphas, and Cole and Dia are perfectly nice, but sometimes they seem too serious. I know that Alphas are supposed to be serious and deal with all of the pack issues, but I think if we could all see them do something crazy- like play charades- it'd really help us to see that they're just like the rest of us, only with more responsibilites."

"I know what you mean," Heidi said, nodding. "And you're right, essentially. Cole and Dia are very much like the rest of the pack. They just are constantly concerned with things that most of the rest of us really don't need to worry about, because they take care of it. Steven and I do our best to help them, of course, but even we don't have the same level of responsibilities that they do. It's a tremendous honor to become Alpha, but it's kind of a huge sacrifice as well in some respects."

Sissy nodded. This was the only pack she had ever belonged to and she had to admit that it was still felt rather uncomfortable to her. She had grown up a rogue and had never pictured herself as a part of a pack until moving to LA. When she had joined up with the pack, everything had been so strange. She had never seen such a large group of werewolves that so genuinely cared about one another. Now, even though she had been a pack member for a while, it still seemed so odd.
"I understand that. I guess I'm still just not used to the whole 'pack dynamics' thing."

"I wasn't either, for a long time," Heidi assured her. "I remember Cole telling me that you had grown up with just your own family and not an actual structured pack. It can be difficult to adjust to living in a pack after something like that. I was a rogue for centuries, until I found this pack."

"It seems like you've adjusted really well, though. I mean, you're a Beta now. If that doesn't show that you're adjusted, then nothing does." She paused for a minute before saying, "I only thought things were strange once the pack wars stopped; nothing really compares to knowing that there's a whole group of werewolves- none of them being family- who live together and care about each other as much as the pack does. Still, I guess you already know that, don't you, having been a rogue yourself?"

Heidi nodded. "The pack dynamic was a complete shock to my system, as it were. Before I met the pack members, I'd really only ever known one other werewolf, and that was centuries ago. It was nothing like what we know with this group. I didn't know what to make of it all at first, it seemed too good to be true."

"I'm slowly getting used to it, so that's something good, at least. And I really do enjoy being a part of something bigger. It's nice, even if it is strage."
Suddenly, her mind switched to a completely different topic than what they had been discussing: just how underdressed she felt. Sure, they were at home, but walking next to Heidi, the fact that her light blue T-shirt was several sizes too large, her faded blue jeans had a rip in the left knee and her bare feet just seemed to suddenly stand out to her. She frowned inwardly and switched her mind back to the topic at hand. Her attention span was considerable, but every now and again, the weirdest thing crossed her mind at the weirdest time.

"Eventually," Heidi said reassuringly, "the strangeness fades, and it's just nice."
They reached the stairs and descended, making their way toward the dining room, where they could still hear the sounds of conversation, laughter, and quibbling. "Let's see who we can recruit for our madcap idea."

Continued from: The Music Room with Mara.
Having followed Mara out of the music room, he glanced left and right, and then led her towards the bedrooms, and away from the 'recreational' part of the hotel. It was loosely segmented, almost like a honeycomb, but more intricately designed and clean-cut.
"You can see why werewolf packs usually choose old hotels to live in. We get all the space we need without having to inhabit several buildings, which means we can all stay in one place, and be accounted for. Safety and protection means a lot to a wolf pack, and we all look out for one another... as you saw with those who were with me at the gallery. They're more protective of someone like me because I'm an Alpha, obviously, but it's not just with me. Dia will get the same kind of 'guard', as will Heidi and Steven." He paused here, letting her take in the information. "They're our Beta pair, but unlike Dia and myself, they're not mates... lovers. In fact, if you see them arguing a lot, it's pretty normal. They're sort of like children in that aspect." Cole smiled, almost affectionately.
"For all intents and purposes, we're a family. We all watch each other's backs, and help one another with problems, and it's very... we're all very close."
