Giving Heidi a slightly amused, puzzled look as she practically forced a plate into Dia's hands, Cole shook it off, and watched people trail out of the kitchen, one by one. Devons' wandering hands got smacked or stabbed at enough to finally ward him off, but Cole still smirked at the younger wolf's behaviour.
Watching William clear the table, Cole shifted in his lean back against the counter slightly, glancing to Heidi once more, and smiling secretively to himself. For all the fighter's subtlety, to a fellow male, William's motives were a little more than obvious... at least to the Alpha. He had a feeling Dia would be able to see it too, but then, she'd always been perceptive.
"Any food left for me, or am I relegated to the cereal cupboard?" he teased Heidi, offering her a smile that said in advance how he wouldn't mind either way. He would have to remember to put in a new food order later though...

"You get the very last of what I've got to offer, chief," Heidi replied, taking the final pieces of toast and slices of bacon from their respective frying pans and turning off the stove burners. She piled the food onto a plate and passed it to him. "I know you prefer to wait until everyone else has been fed."
Somewhat surprised, she glanced at William as he started loading the dishwasher. "Oh, er....thanks, Will, you didn't have to do that."
"After that feast you just made us, Heidi? It's the least I can do!" he replied.
Huh. Well, that's...different. She turned her attention to her fellow Beta, who still seemed to be on another planet, and shook her head. "I think someone needs to get some more sleep," she remarked.

"I defy nature that way," he remarked in return, accepting the plate. In a wolf pack in the wild, the Alphas would eat first, like a lion in a pride; leaders would take priority, along with the young, so they could get their fill. After that, the Betas, and then the rest of the pack. Cole had studied wolf behaviour when the resources had become plentiful enough, and he could still be found watching documentaries when he had the chance.
Removing his arm from around Dia so that he could actually eat, he set his plate beside him on the counter, to save from holding it. Not laziness, necessarily, but more practicality than anything else... not that he would be needing both hands in the immediate future.
"You mean if he isn't asleep already," he offered, toast in hand, glancing to the Beta male, who had his head touched down to the surface of the table, almost as if he had dozed off.

Mara met Dia's eyes and held them for a moment, then pointedly looked at the ground, lowering her head in a slight gesture of both submission and apology. Cole may have forgiven her outright for what had happened, but she knew it would be a long while before she could forgive herself for what had happened.
She put the newly full pot of coffee in an easy reach and chewed the food Heidi had given her quietly - enjoying the play of everyone in the kitchen and feeling her wolf being lazy and sleepy in her head. Her blood sugar was returning to normal and she felt much more human again. "It's nice not to have the only accent in the room." She smiled and put her plate in the dishwasher before William could take it from her and looked up at the new wolf who had entered the room. She kept her curiousity to herself, but she looked at Heidi furtively to see if she knew Mara didn't know him.

"Oh -- Cameron, good morning," said Heidi, glancing up at the only vaguely familiar voice. "I'm afraid you've missed breakfast, but there's plenty of food in the cupboards. Have you met Mara? She's the newest member of the pack." She wiped her hands on a dish towel. To Mara she explained, "Cameron doesn't belong to the pack, but he stays here at the Hyperion during full moon nights."

"Hullo, Cameron," Will greeted, matching the other wolf accent for accent. He offered the bedraggled looking male a brief smile and tried to ignore the fact that Cole seemed to be interested in his actions. Of course, Cole probably knew of William's intentions, subtlety or no, but the fighter was confident that his Alpha wouldn't disclose his attraction to Heidi.
Cole wasn't that mean.

Whenever Cameron called him that, Cole had to pause. Not only did he look physically younger than the Scottish ‘rogue’, but it wasn’t often than anyone used that sort of title for him. Heidi called him ‘chief’, and the occasional skittish pack member referred to him by his pack title of ‘Alpha’, but Cameron was unique in that area. “Morning, Cameron,” he greeted in a friendly manner, taking another bite of toast as Heidi explained to Mara.
Some time ago, but only months really, they had come to meet Cameron through Nate, their human physician; the Scottish wolf had been bitten while working at the hospital, and from there, Nate had introduced him to Cole, Dia and the others. Though Cameron showed no interest in joining the pack permanently, Cole did appreciate the willingness to spend full moons in their care and supervision. It was a compromise that they could all live with.
Glancing back to William, he saw the fighter quickly look away, smiling after he swallowed his mouthful. Luckily for William, Cole wasn’t that mean, but he could still have his own brand of fun… so long as nobody really suffered for it. Cole would never actually put anyone’s personal feelings at risk, obviously.

Mara smiled to herself. Cole's presence obviously affected people more than he ever expected. "Thank you." She met Cameron's eyes and accepted the compliment, moving so she was out of the way of the cleaning. Her empathy was buzzing around her - it was the first time she'd been around people during the full moon, and she was pleased to find that it was not out of control. She quietly sorted through the feelings in the room, assigning them to the people they came from - it was a calming thing that she did - and to find out certain things about people without their knowledge could be entertaining. She'd never dream of telling them that of course, but... William's attraction to Heidi was amusing, and the rest were expected... save one coming from Dia. Mara had only felt it once before... from a woman who had come in to her school, informing them she wouldn't be training any longer - her pregnancy had prevented her performing her martial arts..... could it be? She shook her head lightly. This is not your pack yet. And she is the mate of the alpha. Lay low Harper.
She drank the rest of her coffee and made herself another cup, planning to leave for the dark room. She went to the door of the kitchen and gave a small wave. "I'm going to go try and develop some of my prints... I'll be back for...lunch, I suppose." She gave a smile and moved out of the room.

"You make it sound like I slept a whole day away," she'd quipped back to her mate before Heidi, as expected, had wasted no time in making sure she'd be well fed. She simply gave a small nod and smile to the other female. There certainly wouldn't be an argument from her, at least not at the moment. Starting on her breakfast, it was a bit hard to not once again chuckle at Steven's expense, as the male Beta certainly did seem out of commission at the moment.
She noticed the slight nervousness that seemed to be coming from both Cameron and Mara, and met both with a slightly warmer smile. Though not officially members of the pack, she hoped neither felt too out of place amongst the pack members, though she knew it was probably a bit intimidating in a way to be amongst such an established group. And she, like Cole, certainly didn't miss whatever could be picked up from William's demeanor as far as Heidi was concerned. Though Dia would be more likely to bring it up at some point in time than her mate, she certainly wouldn't do so anytime soon. She'd only interfere if 'necessary', really. Nevertheless, at times it was still both entertaining and amusing to watch things amongst the pack unfold.
Dia had caught Mara giving her a somewhat odd look before retreating out of the kitchen. It was almost as if she had picked up on something unexpected, which could be entirely possible considering the empathy she remember Cole mentioning. But it was enough to give her pause and consider exactly what Mara might be picking up on, and whether or not she should consider keeping her own considerations and feelings a bit more under wraps, especially about certain things. It was one thing for Heidi to know, but she'd really rather others amongst the pack not be informed until the proper moment came around. After all, she hadn't even told Cole yet. But going with that line of thinking was assuming quite a few things on her part, and overall was a contemplation that could be saved for later. "I think someone might have to carry Steven up to his room," she commented with a smirk as she came close to finishing her plate. And if they did, the Beta would most certainly be reminded of it later.

"It's starting to look that way, isn't it," Heidi agreed, shaking her head as she looked at zombie!Steven. "Well, I for one am not volunteering to relocate him." She chuckled, surreptitiously glancing at Dia to satisfy herself that the mother-to-be was eating.
With a deliberately dramatic and long-suffering sigh, she took Steven's coffee cup and went to refill it. There was a wine rack to the left of the refrigerator, and some decently aged whiskey sat among the bottles, so she indulgently added two shots of the liquor to the coffee before delivering it back to her fellow Beta. "I'm nicer to you than you deserve," she teased him, setting the mug on the table in front of him and knowing he would smell the additive.
The dishwasher was full even without Dia's dishes, so as Heidi turned back around, William was adding soap and turning it on. "Thanks, Will, that was a big help," she said, giving the burly fighter an appreciative smile.

"No trouble at all, Heidi," the fighter returned with a bright smile. "You were kind enough to make that wonderful breakfast, so it was the least I could do."
He didn't make his exit straight away, seeming content to lean casually against a bit of counter with a casual eye settled on his Beta male; couldn't have Steven tumbling to the floor again, could they? A briefly chuckle and Will chanced a glance to Heidi. "Is there anything else I can do?"

Why yes, that was the Beta male of the pack, asleep at the table . . . again. His head was resting against the table before he even realized it, and he drifted off. Okay, next time, he should probably take a sleep break, or at least just not leave his room after an all-nighter. It wasn't until the scent of alcohol reached his nostrils that Steven woke, just barely lifting his head from the tabletop, a confused expression on his face as he mumbled, "Huh? Wha? I'm awake . . ." What just happened? When Heidi's words reached his ears, he perked up faintly, giving her a little look before he mumbled a sincere thanks and started sipping. Ohhhhh yeah, that's exactly what he needed, right there. Alcohol makes EVERYTHING better, at least according to this wolf.

Heidi smirked, and shook her head at Steven again. Ah, well, he was always amusing, except when he was infuriating -- which he was often.
Hearing William's question, she glanced at the fighter and smiled more genuinely. "Not that I can think of, Will; you should probably get some sleep. You look tired to death."
"Might be a good idea," he reasoned. "Tonight's the hardest one, after all, and it'll go better if I'm rested." Heidi recalled Cole telling her that when William was human, he'd been a member of the nobility, and quite often his 'training' displayed itself in his mannerisms toward the rest of the pack. He proceeded to give them a perfect example right then, catching her hand and drawing it up to his lips. "Once again, thank you for the meal. I'll see you all later," he added to the group, releasing her and waving as he left the kitchen.

Dia watched the entire exchange between Heidi and the two males with a definite air of interest. Well now this could be interesting… "Well that was awfully chivalrous," she commented to the Beta female after William had left the room. While obviously a bit teasing, Heidi would probably be able to pick up on the slight air of reality to Dia's words. It was fairly obvious William had a soft spot for a certain blonde. At least, to her it was. But then she did make it a point of being extra aware when it came to goings on amongst the pack.

"It...was, yes," Heidi replied, looking slightly nonplussed. "But...well, that's William for you, I suppose." It wasn't as if chivalry was exactly unusual for the burly fighter.
She caught the amused look which passed between the Alphas, and restrained herself from rolling her eyes. While Heidi was not completely oblivious to the fact that William apparently liked her a bit, she never gave it too much thought. She was the Beta female, after all; the position alone drew a level of respect from the other pack members. She was also generally considered the most approachable of the four leaders, she knew -- several of the younger wolves were a bit intimidated by the prospect of going to Cole or Dia for things, which she knew was both silly (there was almost nothing the Alphas wouldn't do for the pack) and understandable (she'd felt the same way about the old Alphas). Steven was a little easier for them to go to, but he could be so moody sometimes that Heidi had become, to use a computer term, the default setting.
Besides, she also cooked, and someone who ate as heartily as William did was bound to favor anyone willing to cater to his appetite. So there you had it.
