"I've got more toast finished here," Heidi said loudly, piling several more slices onto a plate. "Here, chief, feed the masses, would you?" She grinned and handed the plate to Cole. Mara was almost done making another pot of coffee, so she turned her attention to frying up more bacon. "I suspect," she added in a lower voice, meant only for Cole's ears, "that Steven wants a shot of something Irish in his coffee."

The talking all around him was REALLY starting get on Steven's last nerve, each sound sending a spike behind his eyes. Owwww . . . dammit, can't people eat QUIETLY around here?? He visibly winced at Heidi's loud voice, announcing more food, and let out a grumbling hiss, closing his eyes. Okay, this was obviously a mistake. The coffee was nice, but all the company was starting to REALLY suck, for him. Thinking about it, his head drooped a little, the long night catching up with him, even through the noise and the pain. Before he knew it, he had slid out of his chair, and ended up on the floor, jolting fully awake again when his head hit the edge of the table. What the . . . . oh. Right.
". . . Ow . . ."

Cole had been halfway to the table with a smirk on his face after Heidi’s comment, when Steven quite literally slid out of his chair. With a blink, he stared down at the grumbling Beta male. Depositing the plate on the table, he moved to the other side of William — who sat there looking as though he wasn’t sure whether to just stare, or laugh — and offered a hand down to his friend.
“I think,” he began, as he helped the Beta male to his feet, “you should get some sleep.” He was smiling, albeit in a kind of brotherly fashion. “No offence,” he added in a lower voice meant only for Steven, “but you look… well, not at your best.”

The dark-haired Irishman blinked several times, startled by his sudden new vantage point on the floor. What the hell just happened to him? He couldn't be THAT tired, could he? He jumped slightly at the feel of someone approaching, and looked up in near-amazement at Cole. Did he black out, or something? He did NOT just fall asleep like that . . . Nope. No way. Not a chance. Scrambling to his feet with Cole's help, Steven ran a hand over his face, still very stunned. At his friend's words he blinked again, not quite understand. "Huhwhahuh?" Blinking again a few times, it clicked after a second, and he shook his head, trying to clear it. "Oh . . . . Right . . ."

Heidi, of course, was not watching the situation. She was certainly not masking her desire to laugh by chewing on a piece of bacon. And the redness in her face was from standing over the hot stove, not from choking down giggles.
Oh, poor Steven. The dope.
"Maybe you'd feel better if you ate something, Steven," she suggested mildly after swallowing.

He blinked a few times again, his eyes narrowing faintly as he glanced over toward the blonde female. Oh, she HAD to be enjoying this . . . He would be, if it were her. And of course she would use it against him, next time they got into a snark fight. Great. Just fuckin' great . . . NOT what I need. He went from tired to sulky in three seconds flat, and shook his head faintly. "Nooo, food is not a good thing." That coming from Steven was something of a miracle, but he didn't particularly care, right then.

Hooking the thumb of his left hand in the pocket of his pants, Cole cocked his head slightly. “It’ll help,” he offered, and shrugged. “But if you’re sure.” Well, this sort of food was a perfect cure for a hangover, but that wasn’t Steven’s problem, obviously — no, he’d just stayed up all night, probably playing that old games console he had. It was amusing more than anything… and Cole had actually joined Steven more than once, in playing a game.
“Or you could just have more coffee,” he suggested afterwards, meeting the Beta’s eyes anew, and seeing how exhausted they looked.

"Well, if Steven's not going to eat, that means two things," Heidi said with great amusement. "First, it means more for the rest of us. Second, it means we need to write this on the calendar, because it's definitely a noteworthy moment in the pack's history. 'Today Steven wasn't hungry.' I don't recall that happening ever before, personally." She grinned at Steven -- though there was a hint of sympathy in her smile -- before bringing the last of the bacon over to the table.
Recalling how much he had evidently appreciated the meal, she put a generous portion of the freshly cooked bacon onto William's plate. "Here you are, laddie," she said, making a feeble Scottish joke. "You can have Steven's share." Her brown eyes twinkled.
"Sweet Heidi, I mean it as the highest form of compliment when I say -- you would have made a good Scotswoman," replied the burly wolf, digging in with unrestrained delight.
"You keep up the sweet talk, and I'll try to learn to make Scotch eggs one of these days," she replied, laughing and finally having some of her own toast.

William swallowed down a good portion of his bacon and made sure to wipe his mouth before he fixed Heidi with a particularly roguish smile. "Well, then I'll really have to start laying it on, won't I?" he teased, spearing another morsel of bacon on his fork. "It's a good thing that werewolf metabolism doesn't let us get fat. I'd be in deep trouble, otherwise."
It was a known fact that William was normally the first to volunteer to be his Beta's official taste tester, but it wasn't just for the food, of course. He'd always enjoyed Heidi's company; she had a personality that would brighten anyone's day and, well...Will would have lying to himself if he said that he didn't have a bit of a crush on the blonde Beta. But nobody needed to know that, and he was just as happy simply being her friend.

On her way to the kitchen, Dia had done a quick sweep of the halls and other areas she passed along the way, glad that she hadn't picked up on anything unusual as she went along. Everyone seemed to be either tired out or mellowed out from their state the night before. On the whole, things seemed to be business as usual for a morning after a full moon. Enough so that she felt no qualms about heading on to the kitchen.
After all, things like skipping meals certainly wouldn’t be a good idea now that she was eating for two, even if she was still getting used to the idea. And no doubt if she did, she'd certainly hear about it from Heidi, as she had a feeling the other female was already beginning to slip into the role of 'Aunt Heidi'. Dia still needed to impart the news to Cole, but when the moment was right she would. It wasn't as if she didn't have time. She'd made it to the door of the kitchen just in time to see Steven slip from his chair, and hear the exchanges that followed. With that as the first thing to greet her, it was a bit hard not to chuckle as she moved into the room, giving all present a nod of greeting with a slightly amused smile. "Morning. Long night, Steven? Don't tell me I heard something about you not being hungry?" Like most times, she moved to Cole's side, taking note of all who were present, including their newest arrival. Cole had explained to her what happened in the basement the night before, and thought it had obviously been an accident, there was always a part of her that reared up in protection of her mate and their established pack members. Nevertheless, she would certainly not bear any ill will towards Mara. At least, not until she had a definite, concrete reason to.

As Dia entered the room, Cole had been chuckling at Heidi and William’s exchange. He looked up to greet his mate with a smile, even as she slipped into place beside him. One arm rested around behind her back, automatic and instinctual, and he glanced towards Mara, aiming to reassure in case she was still nervous about Dia’s feeling, as to what had happened the night before, down in the basement.
“I was wondering if you’d be joining us today,” he teased his fellow Alpha quietly, even as those at the table quipped and chatted amongst themselves; Cole noticed Devon eyeing the extra bacon on William’s plate, and wondered how long the younger wolf would wait before trying to sneak some of it away for himself.

"Good morning, Dia," Heidi said, appropriating a clean plate and fork and putting food onto it. "Here you go, I won't let these bottomless pits eat it all on you." She gave Devon's hand a playful slap as he attempted to steal some of William's bacon, then stole some herself for Dia. She passed the Alpha female the plate and gave her a knowing grin which plainly said, Eat.

Devon's yelp and following whine garnered a laugh from the fighter, atleast until he noticed that his bacon had been pilfered. Granted, it was for a good cause, so Will didn't make a fuss, though he did shoot Heidi a brief pout before he stealthily snatched a bit of toast from Devon's plate.
"Oi!"
William grinned and waved his fork at the younger wolf. "Oi, yourself," he teased. "You were after my bacon, and don't you deny it."

"Oh, don't give me that look, William," Heidi said with a laugh. She moved back to the stove, and peered into the bacon package. "You're in luck, there's three slices left."
There was also a bit more egg mixture left, so she went back to work making more of the toast. The pack members were beginning to drift out of the kitchen, now, as they finished their food and extended assorted variations of "Thanks, Heidi!"

William watched idly as the kitchen began to empty slowly but surely, and he made sure to swat Devon away as the young wolf tried to escape with a piece of his bacon. After he had finished his own meal, the fighter began collecting the empty plates that had been left behind by his fellow packmates, hoping to help his Beta with clean-up duty.
Right, part of his brain prodded. You just want to stick close to her.
Not entirely untrue, but hopefully it wasn't quite that obvious...
