Despite her age, having lived a number of ‘normal’ life spans, Meghan had never got around to reading some of the classics, such as Charles Dickens. Her finger paused at the start of his titles, a light crease on her forehead. Saying she had never got around to them implied that she had… well, never opened one. When the reality was more along the lines of she had started and then decided juggling the books were a more interesting use for them. She couldn’t help it, she just found him boring and personally, she couldn’t see the appal in him. He droned on and on and on about a past that frankly she disliked. There was nothing romantic or pleasant about the industrial age.
Meghan turned away from that stack and moved round to her favourite titles, falling back onto the tried and tested stories. “Medea…” she was vaguely sure that ancient classical tragedies were not supposed to be amusing or comedies except in the ‘black humour’ sense – hence the name tragedy, but Meghan couldn’t help it. There was just something funny about them.

A giggle sounded in the library, the noise almost louder than it should be when placed into the context of the room she was in. You weren’t really supposed to make noises like laughing in somewhere like a library. Meghan peered over the top of her book, scanning the room to make sure she was still alone. She didn’t want her laughter to disturb someone else if they had sneaked in but the text was just so funny.
“Jason is such an idiot… yeah right Medea is just going to go…” Meghan shook her head at the characters in her book, another giggle slipping out. Her stomach chose that moment to make a rumbling sound and she straightened up on the seat, glancing down at her stomach. Meghan had completely forgotten to eat and she supposed she better get to the kitchen while there was still something there, before the locus of the pack descended on it.

She spun in a circle, arms out stretched as the lower half of her pale red dress flared out, spinning round with the werewolf’s slim form, cloth folding over itself and winding loosely around itself. Madison Rainer giggled softly as she spun, her eyes closed in delight. She could feel the carpet of the library floor in-between her toes and against the soles of her feet and she loved that feeling.
It was only too easy for the young woman – by werewolf standards at least – to be distracted by pretty much anything, to enjoy anything and everything. Even something so simple as the feel of carpet against her feet and the sensation of spinning. Madison opened her eyes with a breathless giggle as she came to a stop, gripping the back of the wooden seat. A wave of dizziness swept over her and was gone before she had time to properly feel it. It was hard to get dizzy if you had werewolf blood on your side and so Madison took a small bit of pride in managing after sustained spinning.
Madison stared at the small stack of daises on the table in front of the chair she was gripping. She had picked them from the courtyard earlier with the intent of finding somewhere private to make a chain – the courtyard wouldn’t remain as empty as it had been while she had been there and when you were busy in the hard and complicated task of making a daisy chain, a normally welcome interruption would be bad. She settled herself in the chair and pressed her nail against the stalk of the first flower, intent on beginning. Madison wanted to make a decent sized one and then give it to someone – most probably Toby because he, among a few others, understood these things.

The daisy stalk was twisted around on itself, end slotting into the slit made by her fingernail to create a daisy ring. It had the longest stalk out of all the ones Madison had hastily collected when the idea had first struck her and so was the one best suited to becoming a ring. She smiled happily as she slid the home made ring onto her finger, admiring the clean white and sunny yellow of the flower head for a couple of moments before turning her attention back to her other pieces of jewellery.
The necklace was completed now, long enough to hand easily around anyone’s neck, depending on who she came across. She used the spare flowers to make bangles, not wanting anyone else she might come across to be left out. Plus, Madison didn’t want any of them to be any unused daisies – they would be unhappy.
With a soft giggle of pleasure she scooped up the daisy chains, necklace carefully around her own neck and bracelets on her wrists for the time before. The ring she was keeping for herself. Time to find people to give her gifts too.

Continued from: Hallways with Steven
William was every inch the obedient fighter as he followed his Beta male into the library. The door was shut behind them, and the Scottish wolf settled himself near the center of the room, standing ramrod straight. Honestly, he wasn't too terribly worried, because he knew his intentions were honorably.
Hopefully, Steven realizes that as well.

He made a beeline for his favourite chair in the library, aware that William was planning to stand upright. As Steven settled himself into the high backed he regarded the Scottish born fighter, the wolf’s stance reminding him of men before the execution squad. It made him wonder if he was really that bad and that just made his evil grin grow.
“So William, anything you want to tell me?” he inquired politely, fingers lacing together, the Beta looking perfectly calm and in control of himself. Steven just hoped Will didn’t decide to go into any details about the night before with Heidi. There were just some things he didn’t want to know.

Well, might as well just dive right in.
"I imagine you are hinting at what occured with myself and Heidi last night?"
Well, William wouldn't be going into full detail because there were just some things that one did not discuss with one's Beta male. Especially when the Beta female was concerned. But the Scottish fighter did tell Steven that yes, he and Heidi had spent the night together. William kept himself steadfast when he spoke to the Beta male, and while it wasn't a direct challenge, he did make sure to meet Steven's eyes for a brief moment.
"I care for her, Steven," he said evenly. "I care for Heidi more than anything on God's green earth."

“This has nothing to do with how much you care for Heidi. Do you really think that if how much you cared for her was in question I would be sitting here just talking to you?” Steven asked, all hints of the playful and sometimes evil Beta dropping away. He looked deadly serious as he spoke, fixing Will with one of his harder stares.
“I want to know what your intentions are, how you jumped from nothing to everything in a night and assurances that death is better than hurting her. That’s all.” Again however, Steven was sure the answers would be as expected but each of them had their motions to go through.

Will's demeanor remained stony, but not rude. "Very well, sir," he said. "In all honesty, I was surprised by the events of last night, as well. From what Heidi told me her wolf...takes over around midnight. I would have prefered a proper courtship, but my wolf was just as...unpredictable. But, what's done is done, and I wouldn't change last night even if I could."
His tone softened, then, as did the expression on his face. There was still a subtle tension through his frame, but his voice was quiet and sincere when he spoke, "I intend to take her as my mate, Steven. If she'll have me. And I'd throw myself on a silver dagger before I hurt her."

For almost a full minute Steven simply stared at William, face impassive. He didn’t even appear to blink, eyes wide and fixed on the fighter, mind running over both what he had just heard and everything he had ever seen, heard or felt when it came to not only William but also Heidi. There were few in the pack that the Beta would have felt comfortable with ending up with his counterpart. Not out of fear that whoever it was would challenge him for his position – he didn’t think that likely to happen, didn’t think Heidi would fall for someone using her as a stepping stone and certainly, Steven didn’t think William capable of that.
Heidi was his sister almost and he didn’t think anyone was worthy of her, not fully. William was better than most however.
“Well then…” Steven said at last, voice dangerously soft. “I guess that is that then isn’t it.” He stood up slowly, never once breaking eye contact with the other wolf. “I hope she has you.”

"I hope so, too."
William, of course, broke eye contact after a few tense moments. He did not cower or appear nervous in anyway -- he merely gave a very brief, very respectful nod of the head. Steven was his superior, his Beta, and he didn't not want the elder male to develop the impression that Will was looking to usurp him; that couldn't have been farther from the truth.
"She means more to me than anything, Steven." The Scottish fighter's expression became subtly lovesick. "More than my own life."

Only those who had known Steven for long period’s of time would have noticed the slight unwinding in his stance, the way his mood shifted from the serious big brother to the more playful and friendly, yet still able to kill you Beta persona he normally projected to the world. “Well good. Heidi deserves to mean the much to someone and I am not so displeased it’s you.”
“Congratulations William.” Steven slapped the fighter on the back, applying perhaps a little more strength and pressure than was absolutely needed but he had the confidence that William could take it. “I hope you two will be very happy together.” The love struck expression on the fighter’s face hadn’t gone un-noticed by Steven and that, combined with his words was enough to convince him that Will was being honest in his advances.

"Thank you, Steven," he said honestly. "That means a lot coming from you. I hope you realize that."
Of course, William knew that, had Steven not approved of his and Heidi's union, he would have been able to put a stop to it. There was no way in hell that Will could have argued, either; Steven was Beta, and Will was loyal to a fault. The Scottish fighter would have been upset, surely, but he was not about to disobey one of his superiors.
"You eaten yet?" the Scotsman inquired with a smile.

Steven dipped his head slightly in acknowledgement of William’s words. He only wanted Heidi to be happy and the Beta male now strongly believed that the other wolf was the one who could make her happy.
“I had my usual eggs earlier yes,” he answered, returning the smile with one of his own.
“Oh and young William, before I forget,” Steven’s voice had returned to its overly innocent and therefore dangerous state. Combined with the use of the word ‘young’, it should have been enough to set the warning bells off in the fighter’s mind again. “Tell Heidi any of what just happened here in the library and the consequences will be very grave…”

Will could only imagine what was running through the Beta male's mind. And Will had quite a vivid imagination. He was fairly sure that, if Steven had any reason to distrust him or cause him harm, the end result would not be a pleasant one.
So, with that thought in mind, the fighter kept his face even. His posture remained ramrod straight because cowering didn't suit him, but Will was sure to keep his eyes down. He would give Steven no cause to harm him. That was a fight that Will was sure he would not walk away from.
"Of course, sir. Not a word."
