Nerys herself had returned to her matches in the ebb of conversation before Morgan's approach. She struck two and both blew out before she could get them remotely close to the bag, she let out a short, derisive laugh. Very funny, she thought as she crouched down instead, to try again. At Morgan's voice she looked over her shoulder and smiled. She knew the younger wolf had a certain unease about spirits that was not all that uncommon in the pack, but she wasn't vocal about it, and that Nerrie was thankful for.
"No," she rose, straightening up again and cast a glance at the boy who remained stationary and staring. She turned her back to him slightly, "thank you for the offer though, Morgan,"
She blinked at the boy's voice, one Morgan or the others couldn't hear and she turned her head to the left to listen to him. She nodded once, twice, "Yes,"
A pause, "Did you?" she asked softly and then nodded again.
Perhaps this behaviour was why she found a portion of the pack sometimes reluctant to spend time with her, fear that she would slip off into another conversation with someone they could see or hear, but could see and hear them perfectly well. She returned her green eyes to Morgan,
"Slight hitch in my plans for the evening, that's all."

Something about the one-sided exchange fascinated the tall redhead, keeping her silent and observant, her bright eyes fixed on the scene before her. She knew it was rude to stare, but as Nerys seemingly talked to nothing, Morgan couldn’t help but try to sniff something on the air, mentally chiding herself when she reminded herself that spirits obviously had no tangible scent.
What would they smell like? she mused to herself, lightly chewing her lip as she pondered. Would it be musty, like a room left sealed for a long time, abandoned to gather dust? Would it be obvious… something like rot, or decay? Or would it be entirely surprising and unexpected, like… her mind wanted to venture towards electricity, or some kind of energy. She suddenly yearned to ask, but didn’t want to interrupt.

Nerys cocked her head to the side a little, her attention drawn back to the red-headed wolf. Experience had given her the ability to tell when curiosity was peaked in other pack members and when they were simply being polite. She smiled softly in her self-effacing way and tucked some hair behind her ear with her free hand.
"If you have a question or two, you can ask me," she said with a light, friendly tone, "I won't bite."

When Morgan realised Nerys had noticed her curiosity, she felt like drawing back a little, somewhat sheepishly. She hated being caught staring in any way, even if it was simple, instinctive inquisitiveness. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to… um… stare.” She’d held back from using the word ‘gawk’, mostly because it had seemed so silly, and rather inaccurate.
“But, um… I just wondered if there’s… any way to tell a ghost is around?” Morgan admitted, taking a cautious step forward, as if her motion would startle whatever spirit Nerys was dealing with, and make it react in some way they should perhaps avoid. “Like… a smell, or anything.”
I sound so ridiculous. God…

Nerys waved a hand and shook her head as Morgan apologised for staring at her, it didn't bother her that much in all honesty. She looked over her shoulder at the boy who was standing stoically beside the fire pit, his boring holes in her back, and then back to Morgan after she had asked her question.
"Well, there are lots of ways," she answered thoughtfully, "in my experience smell can be difficult since every spirit has a distinctive one of its own if it has one at all. Sometimes if you get a feeling that someone is watching you.... it could be a spirit, then again it could be Jeremy about to pull a prank on you," she smiled, "It's all very hit and miss really. I know how I experience them.... but I think it varies for every person. It depends on whether you have the door open or not I suppose."

Morgan supposed being stared at was one of the last things Nerys would get tetchy over. With ghosts randomly appearing and asking her to do things, she had a lot more on her plate than idle curiosity from members of the pack who were too apprehensive to flat-out ask what they wanted to know.
“Oh… wow.” She cocked her head, moving a little closer again and glancing around. If there was a spirit, where was it? Obviously, she wouldn’t see it, but now that their pack ‘medium’ had informed her of the ways to find one, she couldn’t help but wonder if she could… find it. “So… there’s… one here right now?” She might as well make sure of it before she tried to pick up on anything, but with her wolf’s sense of smell, and all the fragrances of plants and flowers, she didn’t doubt it would be difficult.

She nodded, vaguely amused by Morgan's interest and more than a little relieved as it had been a while since the last time anyone had asked such a question of her, she found herself more than ready to answer anything Morgan wanted to know. Indeed once anyone worked up the nerve to ask her something she would never turn around and deny them an answer.
Nerys nodded, "A boy, he doesn't have a scent to him at all. Though his mother, who I am starting to suspect is also lurking around, smells of Elderberries, maybe Elderberry wine or something, I'm not entirely sure." She looked over her shoulder one more time and indicated the boy gently, "He's right beside the fire pit."

Elderberries? After Nerys had made the comment, Morgan caught herself trying to detect that scent on the air, and promptly covered it for a random glance around, looking back to the older, blonde female before it could really be noticed, even though it had probably already been obvious, from the moment she had turned her head to investigate.
Her eyes were drawn to the fire pit, and she blinked, cocking her head. A small part of her wished she could see the boy, if only for the experience; something to write in her diary, to be remembered over the years… a once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing. But then, the rest of her was glad she couldn’t, knowing she wouldn’t be able to get the image out of her mind, if she did see him standing there… probably looking right at her.

She watched Morgan the entire time, as curious of her reactions as Morgan herself seemed to be of the spirit of the boy. She often found herself pondering what it would be like not to see them, because it's wasn't as if it stopped there. All her senses were bombarded by their presence, more so due to their heightened lupine state; she could smell them in the air, taste them in the back of her throat, hear and feel them, feel with them if they wanted her to. It came down to the fact that they were in charge, not her.
Nerys blinked, this time realising it was she who was staring, perhaps trying to experience by proxy from Morgan what it was like to be away from that, to be an island of some sort, she followed her gaze instead,
"Normally I would encourage you to say something to him but I'm afraid he's not the most talkative of spirits," she said softly, her eyes darkened some. The sadness coming off the boy took her completely by surprise and she gave a little, pained sigh.

“Oh, well, that’s okay. I’m sure he’s not interested in me…” Or maybe he was… that was a little creepy. She imagined the boy’s eyes on her, and a fresh shiver raced down her spine as she frowned. The poor kid. “What… what happened to him?” she asked softly, barely more than a melancholy whisper, as if she didn’t want Heidi and Tomas to hear her rather saddening query.
She couldn’t help but wonder. Was it only spirits in need of that kind of help; that last request… were they the only ones who came to Nerys? Or did she see all sorts of ghosts? It was depressing, in a way, that they needed that help; that they could be trapped between life and death, and not able to save themselves.

"To be honest, I'm not entirely sure." Nerys replied, her eyebrows rising an increment, "it's as though he has something to tell me but doesn't know how, or can't. There's something tying him here, something to do with his mother I would be inclined to think. The fact that I haven't seen her yet worries me to some degree, it feels as though....as though he's warning me perhaps."
She realised she had slipped into thinking aloud, as she had with Cole a little earlier and recoiled somewhat, as if embarrassed to have aired so many of her thoughts and simultaneously how terribly morose she must have sounded during them.
"I'll get to the bottom of it though," she gestured to the space around her with an attempt at more upbeat smile, "I usually do."

While Morgan and Nerys had been speaking, Tomas had tilted his head back and returned his gaze to the stars, looking for all the world as if he was completely oblivious to their conversation. Anyone who knew him, however, knew that that wasn’t the case. Perhaps he was eavesdropping, but some part of him found that what Nerys was saying fascinating and he couldn’t seem to help himself.

Forcing away her discontent, Morgan looked to the blonde female beside her, and smiled softly, nodding. She trusted that Nerys would figure it all out, and help the little boy. From what she had heard, cases that she couldn’t solve were blissfully rare, but that didn’t mean the redhead envied her ability at all. Having been born a werewolf, Morgan had never known any different, and she was content in her being.
Glancing over her shoulder, she saw her brother watching, and gave him a smile too, as if to simply reassure Tomas that she was fine, and everything was okay. She knew he worried, and she loved him for that; whine though she might, sometimes, she adored having a protector.

Why was Morgan so good at catching him during what were supposed to be subtle glances? Checking up on his sister was habit for him. If she was nearby, he naturally glanced towards her on occasions, just to check and make sure that everything was okay. Even when they were at the hotel and just goofing off he did it. It was perhaps exceedingly overprotective, but, like he always said when it was brought up, it was just part of his job as an older brother. He returned the smile with a little shrug- What’re you going to do? I can’t help it.- and glanced up at the stars, half considering lying on his back in order to achieve a more comfortable position for stargazing. That thought, however, was quickly dismissed and he glanced back towards his sister and Nerys.

Nerys' eyes moved between the siblings surreptitiously and she found herself smiling as her eyes settled on Morgan, well aware of Tomas' gaze aimed in their direction. She understood the older sibling mentality perfectly well and admired it greatly,
"Well, I'll only be another few minutes, I know how much you enjoy the courtyard," she said softly, "you should enjoy it while the sky's so clear." She wasn't pushing the female away; she was simple making it clear that there was nothing to worry about. They weren't about to experience potted plants flaying at them form every direction, that sort of supernatural activity was thankfully extremely sparse in occurrence.
