All in all, Drake was just glad that he didn’t get spooked very easily. There were too few good, truly creepy stories to be found for it to happen on a regular basis, though it was not for lack of trying to search them out. The problem was that he had already read most of the good ones and it was far, far easier to find stories that weren’t scary at all than it was to find one well written and scary enough to make him start looking over his shoulder, wondering if he was really as alone in his room as he thought he was; paranoia wasn’t a good thing. Sometimes, when he knew that he’d be up late reading stuff online, he’d gather some snacks to take with him. He had found that food really was a good anti-monster device. He didn’t ever really believe that anything was going to sneak up in the darkness and drag him into the abyss or anything, but eating gave him something else to think about, which was always welcome when dark, scary thoughts started to creep in and overtake him.
While he wouldn’t want to do anything too drastic to his hair, Drake was more than confident that Meghan wouldn’t do anything awful to it. There weren’t many who he would trust to play around with his hair, mostly because he couldn’t be absolutely certain that they wouldn’t dye it some hideous color or try to shave him bald, but he knew that Meghan wouldn’t do something like that. At least, not on purpose, since sometimes hair dye, from what he understood, sometimes seemed to be a completely different color on actual hair than it was on the box it came in.
Having never really had much to do with cats before, Drake wasn’t at all sure how they functioned or showed affection. He didn’t know how to read their moods or figure out what they wanted, but if he was going to be hanging around with Samhain, he would clearly have to learn. “I’ll have to make sure that I remember that for next time. Balloons equal special. For now, though, I’m not really sure what we should do. I mean, I’m sure I could come up with suggestions, but they’d probably all be boring, so…” He gave a little shrug. Drake didn’t exactly have a great deal of confidence in any idea he might have related to what they might do.

Sometimes, when Meghan wanted to give herself a really good scare, she forced herself to accept that there probably were monsters in the world. Not monsters when it came to people’s personalities, although they too were monsters, were evil, and in a way almost more frightening than any story, to know that someone mundane looking could turn out to be the devil incarnate. But there were werewolves in the world. There were vampires, and so who knew what else was actually out there, in the dark? Just waiting for their chance.
It would have made her beam to know that Drake trusted her so with his hair. Of course, they might have very different views on what was a hideous colour when it came to hair. Personally, Meghan wanted to see a completely blonde, ‘surfer’ Drake and then later, a proper jet black, ‘Goth’ style look to her friend, confident that he would be able to pull off both, vastly different looks. She couldn’t pick which one was her favourite to imagine, although Meghan was convinced that he would look stunning. It made her bounce a little on the inside at the thought of it, maybe she would dye her own hair the same colour, so that Drake wasn’t on his own, so they would match. They would look… cute.
Cats were strange beasts, Meghan was never going to deny that. Strange but awesome and she was sure given the chance, that Drake would get to know and love Samhain just like she did. “Balloons always equal special, something so innocent and pleasing about them.” She reached out, poking him lightly in the shoulder and Meghan didn’t like it when he put himself down like that, when he wasn’t as confident in him as she was in her friend. “You have good suggestions, Drake.”

Though Drake didn’t believe that anything was going to sneak into his room and drag him kicking, screaming and fighting into the unknown, Drake thought that there probably were creatures in the world that could be labeled as true monsters. To humans, werewolves and vampires were exactly that, even if most of them didn’t believe that either actually exist. Why, Drake reasoned, could werewolves and vampires exist in the world and not other things? He couldn’t begin to accurately guess what might be real and what wasn’t, but it made sense to him that others might be walking the earth, undetected, blending in with the general population, observing and going through life.
The highlights were as adventurous as he had ever really gotten with his hair, but Meghan probably could have talked him into just about anything, even if he had doubts about how a color or style might look on him. In the end, if it came out less than flattering, he could just remind himself that the dye would fade and he could change his hairstyle, even if it involved growing it back out. He did, however, think that it would be easier should Meghan color her hair to match. Such things were a great deal easier when you weren’t the only one doing it. Then, though, he would probably have to worry a bit. Meghan was bound to be able to pull off having her hair any color she wanted, so when it looked good on her, it would look that much worse on him.
Samhain was an excellent cat, he was sure, but he just got the feeling that the cat was less than enamored with him, but he didn’t know why. He did what he could to get the cat to like him… Perhaps that was the problem? Maybe he was trying too hard? If he didn’t try, though, he’d feel guilty because then he’d manage to convince himself that Samhain- and Meghan- would think that he didn’t like the cat.
He didn’t really realize he was doing it when he pouted at the poke. It was over quickly, but he couldn’t help it. “I don’t really know if I have good suggestions, but I’ll try.” He went silent for a moment to consider their options, sorting through them in his mind as he attempted to come up with something that wouldn’t sound boring. “We could always watch a movie?”

There were ghosts, of that Meghan had no doubt. So many reasons to believe in ghosts, and it wasn’t just the fact that they had an apparent medium within the ranks. She believed Nerys of course, knew that she was telling the truth when she spoke of things from the other side, but even without such a vivid piece of proof in her own mind, she would have believed in them. There was just too many questions, too many unanswered questions that could only even start to be explained if there was something beyond this life, something other. Ghosts and an afterlife of sorts. Meghan had lost people she loved throughout her life, people that still made her sad to think they were gone and the thought that she might see them one day again or that they were happy kept her going.
Cats were never easy to please, but then that was sort of the point when it came to cats. They had staff instead of owners, a saying Meghan vaguely remembered seeing on a mug somewhere. There had been another one as well, along the lines of cats and women doing as they pleased, while dogs and men had to just get used to the idea. That was a theory which made her giggle, even if she did approve. Samhain was just making a point though, of that Meghan was sure. As soon as Drake lowered his guard, thought for sure the cat didn’t like him, that would be when he would strike, when he would drape himself over his lap and demand petting.
Meghan couldn’t help but giggle at that pout and it was so very adorable. His own fault for putting himself down though and had she known that he didn’t feel he could pull off the hair would have earned him another poke. “Movie sounds perfect!” Meghan enthused, bright grin on her face. “Knew you’d have good ideas!”

Drake saw no reason not to believe in ghosts, but he didn’t want to think about them. The thought of spirits being around unsettled him a little, since they could be watching anything and everything he did without him ever knowing. The thought of spirits remaining after death could be a comfort if he could stop thinking in that paranoid way about them. He knew that he shouldn’t really worry about such things, since there were far more interesting members of the pack for them to watch if that was what they wanted to do. He wasn’t trying to be disrespectful to spirits- he’d never do something like that- but it was just something that always seemed to creep in his mind when he thought of ghosts.
As uncertain as he usually was about such things, Drake took it personally when Samhain seemed to want nothing to do with him. He understood that they were extremely independent creatures, only interested in others when it suited them. He was the sort who needed to be shown that he wasn’t hated, though, so the times when Samhain would allow him to pet him were cherished in their way, just because it meant that there might be a little less loathing being sent his way.
Meghan’s giggle confused him a little. He didn’t realize that it was because of the pout and tried to put it out of his mind, doing what he could to convince himself that she wasn’t actually laughing at him. When she made the comments about his suggestion, he gave a smile, glad that it had been so well received. “Is there any particular kind that you’d like to watch? Or even a specific one?”

She supposed if ghosts could watch everything, then there would be one or two that did just that, who were naughty, disgusting ghosts that had no trouble with watching people get undressed, or sleep or who knew what else. That was a little off putting once she thought about it and even more innocent past times like dancing around, singing into a hairbrush… well, Meghan had no problem with members of the pack seeing her when she was being silly and most of the time she had no issue with passer bys seeing her. It was just the thought of a stranger, watching her on purpose… it made the wolf in her shiver a little.
Samhain was just going to have to get used to Drake, and Meghan was sure given a little more time he would do just that. As soon as he realised that the wolf wasn’t going away and instead of thinking of having to share time, he should realise that it was just one more person to love him. A whole pack to love him given the chance and Meghan was sure Cole and her kitty would get on like a house on fire. Or else he’d shun even the Alpha and that was an amusing image in its own right.
Meghan launched herself forward, arms going around to tackle hug him tightly, pleased by the smile and her friend really needed to relax a little, needed to be more confident in himself, and his choices. She was determined to do just that, to loosen him up a little, make him see that there was so much more to the male than he was letting himself see right now. “How about The Mummy? That’s always funny and scary at times, I might have to hide behind you when the scarabs and the eyes and eeew.”

It really was creepy, the thought that someone unseen by everyone save those with a gift like Nerys could be in the room, watching whatever they were doing, spying and completely unnoticed. It was so creepy, in fact, that he chose not to think about it any more. It was, he figured, a good time to drop that line of conversation and turn to far more pleasant things. Possible invisible voyeurs, watching during moments when someone thought they were alone, wasn’t at all pleasant, so he decided that it deserved no more thinking on it. Instead, it was time to turn his mind to other things and hopefully he wouldn’t find himself glancing around warily when he went back to his room, wondering if there was someone hiding in there who he couldn’t see or smell.
Drake hoped that the cat really would warm up to him, maybe stop treating him like he was some sort of invader. Samhain wanted all of Meghan’s attention to himself- okay, that he could get- but really, he was trying to offer the cat his attention as well. He didn’t know if things would get better or not, but, again, he hadn’t ever actually be around that many cats before, so he most certainly wasn’t going to pretend that he was any sort of expert on the feline kind. Hopefully, though, with a bit more time and attention, Samhain would come to accept that Drake was a friend.
He found himself shocked at the tackle hug, and not just because he almost went over sideways at the suddenness of it. Oh, he didn’t mind it- he didn’t mind it at all- but he couldn’t help but be surprised that he had gotten such a reaction. He didn’t see a time when he’d ever be confident in himself and his choices, but if he could make someone as happy as Meghan appeared to be at that moment, then he was more than content being exactly the way he was. “The Mummy sounds perfect and if you really do need to hide behind me, you’re more than welcome to.” It wasn’t as if he’d mind, after all.

The more she thought of the idea of someone unseen watching her, the creepier the whole thing became, the fact that there could be someone watching you all the time and you having no clue was just unnerving. She decided to push such thoughts from her mind and think of things that were much more pleasant. If she didn't focus on more pleasing thoughts she might very well find herself clutching her covers around her tightly with her flashlight in hand or even worse be consumed by the need to flee her room to go and wait outside Cole and Dia's room just to feel safe. It was definitely time to think about other things, things that made her smile and feel happy and safe and not want to cower in the dark wondering what was hiding out there.
Meghan had no doubt that Samhain would eventually show Drake that he liked him, it would just take him a little while longer to warm up to the idea of someone else demanding her attention. It probably did come down partly to jealousy in the cat's eyes, after all Meghan belonged to him and Drake kept coming along and stealing her attention away. Given time Samhain would realise that if he played his cards right he could get attention from both of them at once and get double the love that Meghan could give him.
She really was determined to make her friend loosen up and realise that he should have more confidence in himself and his choices, he needed to stop putting himself down at every opportunity and she was going to try and break him of that habit if she could. The tackle hug was just one way she could think of to do that, it might have caught him by surprise but hopefully it would make him realise that he did come up with good ideas and ones that she would love. "I'm glad to hear you say that because I really will need to hide behind you at least once, maybe more with the icky parts." She really was glad because she wasn't just saying it she really would need to hide at certain points in the movie and she couldn't think of anyone better to hide behind right then.

Having someone watch him without his knowledge was something that he really did prefer not to think about any more than he already had. It wasn’t as if he ever did anything particularly interesting or scandalous, but really, there were times when someone just needed to be alone and the thought that there could be someone around that he was completely unaware of was spooky. It was something he was going to have to force out of his mind and refuse to think on any more because, while he would be able to manage staying in his room on his own later in the night, he really did prefer not to find himself having to leave a light on in order to be comfortable with doing so.
He certainly hoped the cat would give him a chance and maybe, given a little time, accept that he and Meghan were friends. He would have gladly lavished Samhain with attention if only he didn’t think he had to worry about getting the claws as a thank you for his attempt. He hadn’t really gotten them yet, but he really preferred to keep it that way. Some of the looks Samhain gave him at times told him that if he tried to reach out and give him a pet, there was going to be pain quickly following.
Perhaps given some more time Drake would be able to loosen up and find a little more confidence in himself, but he still felt slightly out of place with the pack as a whole. It was something that he would eventually get over, but it would take a bit longer for that to happen. For the time being, though, he was more than happy to focus on watching a movie and just generally hanging out with Meghan. “If you feel the need, have at it.” He knew there were parts in that particular movie that could strike some as gross and disturbing, so if Meghan needed to hide behind him at points, then he was more than happy to let her do so. “Do you want to get snacks or anything before we settle in?”

She really wanted to stop thinking about the idea of someone watching her at all times without her knowledge. Her imagination didn't really need any more help coming up with things that could scare her because it managed to do that pretty well all on its own without any added thoughts of ghosts watching her. If she didn't stop herself from thinking about them soon she was going to have trouble shaking the feeling that someone could be watching her at any time without her knowing. She would just have to make sure that any more conversations that were had were on topics that were far more light and non-scary.
She knew it would take some more time but Samhain would come to accept that she was friends with Drake and there was nothing that the cat could do about that. It wouldn't stop Samhain from giving Drake the cold shoulder or the odd lazy swipe as a warning but Meghan knew her cat didn't really mean anything when he did those things he was just being a cat. For now she would just have to make sure that she gave Samhain enough attention so that he didn't get it in his head that Drake was a threat and someone he had to compete against for her attention because she had a feeling that wouldn't help the two become friends.
Meghan wouldn't give up trying to get Drake to relax more and gain more confidence, she had a feeling that he still didn't feel like he fit in with the whole pack and that made her sad. She wanted him to feel like he truly belonged because he did, even if he didn't realise it yet. At least she got to spend time with him, she would gladly settle for more time with him if it helped him feel like he belonged more. "Thank you, I will definitely need to." She knew it was maybe slightly foolish to get freaked out by a movie but she just couldn't help it with some parts and hiding behind Drake was a good way to deal with that. "I think I have some snacks hidden around here somewhere or we could go and raid the kitchen if you want."

It really was probably for the best if he stopped himself from thinking about it as well. It was unsettling, to say the least, and the less thoughts he had of someone he couldn’t see, hear or smell watching him, the better he would probably end up sleeping that night. Who wanted to lie awake in bed, wondering if there was a ghost standing in the corner (or right next to the bed) watching them? He certainly didn’t, so he became determined to stop thinking about it and instead let his thoughts turn to a better subject.
While he knew there was no rushing the cat to come to accepting him, Drake really did wish that Samhain would come to actually like him already. He didn’t even know if cats were the sort of creatures who actually came to like others, having never really had much to do with them, but he certainly hoped so. He really didn’t want Samhain to continue seeing him as the enemy. He’d even take being tolerated if that was all he could get. He really wasn’t extremely picky about such things. Being considered a friend by the cat would have been wonderful, certainly, but he really didn’t know if that was something he could count on ever being or not.
He really did hope that he would someday feel as if he was properly a member of the pack, since he really did hate the feeling that he didn’t fit in. Still, he had come in from the city’s other pack and he really wasn’t sure if he’d ever feel properly at home there. He certainly hadn’t in Rayne’s pack. He was still hoping that things would be better here, though. There was still time for things to change, especially since he hadn’t been there all that long. “It’s not a problem at all.” He didn’t think it was foolish at all. “I’m more than happy to eat whatever you have stashed around. I’ll even help you restock.”

Meghan knew that you couldn't rush a cat, they were independent creatures and they would come to things in their own time, any attempts to rush them would just result in the opposite outcome to what you were after. She really hopes that Samhain would come to think of Drake as a friend but she wasn't going to do anything to try and influence her cat's mind, this was something that Samhain had to do on his own, all they could do was make sure that they didn't give him any reason to think that it was a bad idea to like Drake. As long as he didn't go standing on his tail or sitting in his spot on the bed then there was still hope that the two could become friends. Meghan just wanted the two to get along so that they could all have fun hanging out together without the threat of any unprovoked violence because Drake had looked at Samhain wrong.
She personally couldn't understand why it was that Drake felt like he didn't fit in because as far as she was concerned he did fit in and was a proper member of the pack. It didn't matter to Meghan that he had come to them from the other pack in the city, what mattered was that he had made an effort to become one of them and in her mind he was. She wished she could make him realise that and she would do what she could to help him get over whatever it was that was making him think he didn't belong. "I'm glad to hear it because I don't think I'd be able to hide behind Samhain." She offered her friend a smile and bounced slightly on the spot. "I think there are some chips on the top of the bookcase and I'll see what I can find in the dresser." She stood up off the bed and started rooting through the drawers of the dresser hunting for snack food. "I would hope so, it's only polite to help restock when you eat someone else's food."

If you couldn’t rush a cat, it was a good thing that Drake didn’t intend to try. What he did intend to do, however, was make some piece offering to Samhain and hope that they would at least convince the cat that he came in peace. Otherwise, Drake was afraid that, if the cat had his way, he’d leave in pieces. He would have to see what he could find that would be appropriate to bring as an offering, even if he had to tag along the next time someone needed to make a run to the pet store. Surely he would be able to find something that the cat would like. Maybe, whenever that happened, he could ask Meghan to go along and she could help him pick out something appropriate. He wasn’t trying to buy the cat’s friendship (since he really didn’t know if that was even possible; he thought cats might be far too smart for that) but surely some sort of offering wouldn’t hurt. He would just have to be extra careful not to do anything to make Samhain like him less than he already did because, really, it would be nice to be on good terms with the cat.
No one had done anything to make him feel like an outsider, but Drake just had a hard time feeling like he fit in properly. It was, he knew, just him and an issue that he really needed to get over because he really did want to feel properly at home with the pack. He hoped that, with some more time, he would feel like really did belong, because he liked it with the pack. “I’m sure you could try, but I don’t know if he’d appreciate it.” He offered a smile in return and got up, moving to the bookcase in order to see if he could find the chips. “That’s true. The next time an outing is planned, I’ll go along so I can help restock your stash.”

She couldn't be sure but she didn't think that a peace offering would hurt Drake's chances of winning over Samhain and it had to be better than trying to rush him or not doing anything at all. Meghan really hoped that Samhain wouldn't decide that Drake was a threat or anything but a friend and she would do what she could to make sure that her cat came to the right decision, she just had to be careful not to end up pushing things the wrong way. If Drake asked her to go to the pet store with him to help him pick something out for Samhain she would agree without hesitation, she really wanted them to get along so she would help Drake if he asked her to. She knew it wouldn't be him trying to buy the cat's friendship and as it was she wouldn't think that would work if he tried. Hopefully before too long they would be friends and Meghan wouldn't have to worry about them not getting along and any tension between her cat and her friend.
She really didn’t like to think that Drake didn’t fit in properly. It shouldn’t matter that he wasn’t born in to the pack or that this wasn’t his first pack, she certainly hadn’t been born in to the pack and yet she thought of this as her true home, she just wished that Drake could feel like that as well. She would do what she would to help him feel like he really belonged here because she felt that he did belong with them. “I don’t think he’d appreciate it either, I might get swiped at for doing it too.” She returned his smile and continued going through the drawers looking for snack food. “Good, I always like to have a good stash hidden in my room because you never know when you might need a midnight snack.”

If things didn’t seem to be getting better between him and Samhain before the next trip away from the hotel, he really did think that he would have to see if he could swing a stop by one of the city’s pet stores and see what could be found. Maybe a peace offering would work and maybe it wouldn’t, but he was more than willing to give it a shot and hope for the best. Being at odds with the cat held no interest for him and he really would have liked it if the cat could at least accept him being around, though becoming friends with the feline would always be the ultimate goal, though he imagined it would be slow going and take some hard work to accomplish, both things that he could accept. He was more than patient enough to attempt proving to the cat that he meant no harm and wasn’t trying to encroach on the territory Samhain had claimed as his. Since he really didn’t trust himself to pick out an appropriate gift for the cat, he would most certainly need Meghan’s help in choosing something. He knew that he wouldn’t have any idea as to where to start other than in the cat section and, perhaps, the toys. After that, though, he was rather afraid that he would find himself in over his head and become completely lost in what he was sure would be a vast array of choices.
He supposed that it would just take time for him to feel at home with the pack, just as it would take time for him to gain Samhain’s friendship. He knew that a great number of the pack members had very likely not been born within the pack, so that wasn’t really what he saw as his biggest obstacle. That went to the fact that he had come to them from the city’s other pack. He didn’t know if anyone really thought that much about it or if he was reading into something that wasn’t there, but he couldn’t help but feel like there was some possibility that that was why he didn’t feel as if he quite belonged. Of course, it really could have been him just being himself and not feeling quite like he fit in anywhere he went. “And we can’t have him swiping at you like that. It wouldn’t be very nice of him.” He pulled the chips from atop the bookshelf and moved back to the bed so he could put them down, figuring that they may as well start a pile, just to see what they gathered. “You make a really good point there. Maybe I should start putting a stash together myself, just in case.”
