Tomas failed to see what little sisters were for if not for their big brother to protect, tickle, comfort, pester and make laugh. He thought nothing of putting everything else aside to see to it that Morgan was happy. He didn’t have to do it. He wanted to. She was his sister, after all, and he’d give her the world if it was his to give. Of course, then he’d have to joke that she’d probably break it, but that was part of his sacred duty to tease her when he could. He knew that Morgan would give whatever she could, but he didn’t ask when he didn’t have to. He was firmly of the belief that he was supposed to take care of her, not the other way around.
He couldn’t help but laugh at the yelp, but, at her comments, he gave his sister a playful glare. “We know that I never really win, huh?” He released the hold he had on her with his right hand and carefully poked her in the ribs. He wasn’t trying to hurt her, after all. “Don’t pfft me. From where I’m sitting, it looks to me like you’re losing.”

Tomas and Morgan had never been the sorts of siblings to partake in any kind of rivalry beyond the simplicity and innocence of games like the ones they were currently enjoying, harmless fighting and tumbling around the room that might have seemed odd to anyone outside of the pack, anyone who didn't know them or understand how important tactile interaction and familial bonds were to wolves. Morgan remembered fondly how she and Tomas were always cuddled close when watching movies, how they would sit side by side so close that they arms were in constant contact, how she would reach over the dining table from wherever she was sitting and steal a piece of toast or a fry from his plate when they had their meals. They were close, undeniably so, always had been and always would be and they didn't waste their time on things like rivalry or bickering.
With a growl that was far from menacing, a mischievous kind of sound, Morgan took advantage of Tomas' momentary release on his hold of her and used her freed hand to shove at his chest with all her strength whilst still regulating her power so she wouldn't hurt her brother. He rocked and she laughed, a fresh growl wound through the sound of mirth, following through to shove him all the way over and down to the ground, grinning down at him despite the fact that it would no doubt be only a matter of time before he once again turned the tables and it was her back against the floor instead of his. "Ha," she gloated simply with a smile on her face. "How about now? Does it still look like I'm losing?"

While there was no doubt that not all siblings managed to get along like he and Morgan did, he couldn’t imagine things being different between them. He imagined that was due in equal parts to being a wolf and having always been close to his sister; as a wolf, and especially having always been part of the pack, he naturally wanted to be around others, craving company, and, having always been close to Morgan, she had the tendency to be his favorite to be around. Tomas enjoyed having his sister close, where he could see her, talk to her, just be close and occasionally give her a teasing prod when he was in the mood to do so. Considering she enjoyed stealing food from his plate, a prod here and there seemed perfectly acceptable. Those who didn’t know them and their ways could have very easily mistaken their play fighting for something a great deal more violent, never knowing that, despite the way things looked, they were very much aware of how much force they were using and taking a great deal of care not to actually injure one another. To anyone with an untrained eye, it could, occasionally, look as if they were really aiming to hurt one another.
He tried to catch himself before he went over, but the second shove had sent him down to the floor, where he could look up and give his sister a mock glare. As a fighter, he really should have paid a little more attention, but he wasn’t exactly in a life or death sort of situation, so he forgave himself. Out in the field, he was hyper aware, watching, listening, smelling everything that was nearby, ready to react in a split second to anything that might come suddenly and require swift action. At home at the Hyperion, however, was a time to let his guard down, to relax while he had the chance, even if it did find him looking up at his little sister from flat on his back. “All right, all right. Gloat while you have the chance, but don’t get used to it.”

Morgan felt much better already and she couldn't help but think once again how lost she would be without her brother. He always knew what to say and do to bring her around from one of her bouts of melancholy and just when she thought it wasn't possible to love him any more than she already did he would go and do or say something remarkable and her affection for him would just spike to a whole new level. Today was no exception. Looking down on him she knew she had never loved him more than she did at that moment in time and it wouldn't be long before a situation very much like this one came around and the same thing would happen.
"I like to gloat," she said with a triumphant little smile. "But so many gloats are cliché now," she added with a sigh, tilting her head at a slight angle. "I'll just settle for sitting here smugly and knowing that I beat you fair and square, just like I said I would." Her smile became a grin and she began to shift as though to get herself comfortable and settled in for the long haul.

One of the things Tomas had always hated more than anything was to see his sister unhappy, so if there was something he could do to cheer her up, he was always willing to do it. If it was in his power to do so, Tomas would have made sure that Morgan was always happy, laughing and smiling rather than melancholy and gloomy. He knew that his sister viewed things the same way he did- she wanted him to be happy and in a good mood as much as he wanted her the same way and she always did what she could to pull him out of a gloomy mood when she came across him while he was in one.
Looking up at his sister, he gave a little glare. “I’ve noticed that you like to gloat and a little too much, if you ask me.” He was of the opinion that Morgan was enjoying their current positions far too much, which meant only one thing. He was going to have to do something before she had the chance to get too smug and comfortable.
He lurched quickly to the side, making sure he waited until she was shifting a bit, reaching out and taking her by the shoulders as he moved, putting some effort into it so that she went over. He was careful to make sure that she wouldn’t hit or head on the floor since the carpeting wouldn’t keep it from hurting if she hit too hard. “Never jump the gun.” He grinned down at her, pinning her lightly by her shoulders. “You should know that by now.”

Morgan allowed herself a laugh with her bottom jaw dropped open as though somehow outraged and indignant in response to her brother's words. "I like to gloat? Hello, pot calling the kettle black?" She snorted to herself and shook her head. "Dear brother, where do you think I got these things from? Don't you know it's the very law of nature for the younger siblings to mimic the older ones? This is all your fault really."
That was when he lurched to the side and she yelped unceremoniously as she fought briefly and futilely to hold onto some scrap of balance and control. She scowled up at her brother and called a little of her wolf to the surface, just enough for the very roots of her hair to darken towards black and her eyes to flicker brightly. "I didn't jump anything," she grumbled, trying to push against his shoulder and realising quickly that he had her well and truly pinned. It would take some thinking to figure out a way out of their new position but she was determined to try. "You started it."

One thing he knew about a fight, whether it was an all out sort of thing or one of his play fighting sessions with his sister, was that if you could take your opponent by surprise, it was best to take the opportunity. It kept them on their toes and gave him the chance to get in an attack. Waiting while his sister was gloating, pointing out that he could, occasionally, do the same when they found them in situations like the one they were currently in. He just wouldn’t admit to it. That would have been far too easy and he didn’t like to give in like that when he didn’t have to.
Grinning down at his sister, he tilted his head a bit. “Having trouble getting up, little sister?” He put just the slightest bit more pressure on her shoulders, careful to keep it light enough not to cause her discomfort but firm enough to make sure she couldn’t dislodge him too easily. “Since I started it, I think it’s only fair that I finish it as the winner of our little tussle. Don’t you agree?”

Tomas had certainly had the element of surprise working in his favour there was no doubt about that and Morgan almost resented that fact; if anyone should have been able to anticipate Tomas' actions shouldn't it have been her, his little sister who had known him from day one and spent more time with him than any other member of the pack? Apparently not. That was rather frustrating to her and she scowled up at her big brother in a way she hoped was at least somewhat sobering. She would fail, she usually did, but that didn't stop her from trying.
"I'll have you know I'm very comfortable right now," she said to him with her scowl melting away into a look of indifference or at least that was the aim. "This just so happens to be my favourite patch of carpet. If you'd knocked me over at any other point in the room I might just knock you over again but I like it here." That was complete rubbish and one of the worst lies ever concocted by any living creature but she was at least amusing herself and even though she tried to keep it at bay a smile was quick to creep its way across her face.

It was true. Morgan probably should have seen it coming, seeing as how she knew him better than absolutely anyone. Sometimes, it almost seemed as if she could slip in his head and have a quick peek at what he was thinking. As often as she seemed to know what he was planning, he wouldn’t have been surprised to find out that she was able to do exactly that. It was nice knowing that he was still able to surprise her, though, especially when it came to a tussle, since it wouldn’t have been any fun for him if she always managed to predict what he was going to do before he did it and had the chance to compensate and ruin his plans.
“Oh, really now?” Tomas asked, raising an eyebrow disbelievingly. He had the very distinct feeling that she was just saying those things, trying to get to him in her way since he currently had her pinned against the floor. “I think you’re just saying that.” He gave her another grin. “You’re trying to figure out a way to get up and you’re just talking to try and throw me off guard. Aren’t you?” He certainly wouldn’t put it past her.

Given that she had known her brother for over two whole centuries it was really no wonder that she could read him as well as she could. It wasn't just facial expressions or body language, it was more than that, so much more. Morgan could all but sense her brother's moods as well as she could her own. She had never been sure whether all wolf siblings were the same, if they all had that same innate and unspoken understanding of one another and their moods and emotions or if she and Tomas were different somehow because of the trials they had been through together. There was no way of knowing really, there were no other siblings in the pack anymore.
Morgan could be perfectly comfortable on her floor but it was blatantly obvious she was lying; she could see in Tomas' eyes that he knew perfectly well she was just saying what she had to try and come across as nonchalant. "Me? Throw you off guard?" She gave Tomas a mock hurt look, frowning with her brows drawn. "Dear brother, would I do that to you?" With that she gave him a small smile, aiming for innocence and suspecting she looked more mischievous than anything else. It was worth a try.

Tomas had always simply accepted the way he and Morgan could read each other, almost seeming as if they could sense what they needed to know about their sibling with just a quick glance, and sometimes without even that, as simply being how they were. He couldn’t begin to guess if it was the same for all siblings, if it was something that only wolves were really capable of or if it was just them, the way they were, but at the end of the day, it really wasn’t all that important. His sister was the most important person in the world to him and all he needed to know was that they had a connection and that she was all right. That was always the big thing to him, knowing that his sister was all right, happy, safe generally worry free.
He raised an eyebrow at the little smile. “If you’re trying to convince me that you aren’t a schemer, you’re doing a terrible job at it. Besides, we’re both very well aware of the fact that I know better than to buy into your acts. What kind of brother would I be if I didn’t know that you’d try to throw me off guard if given the opportunity?”

If they ever gained another pair of siblings Morgan had already made up her mind to ask them about their own connection and whether or not they were just as sensitive as she and Tomas seemed to be about one another. She was curious now and couldn't get it out of her head, it was like her own little science project. If it wouldn't have been in bad taste she might have asked those like Irina or Tariq or any one of the other wolves in the pack who had had siblings who were no longer around but respect and a sense of understanding kept her from digging up old pains. In time she would learn her answers but until the pack gained some new members she would just have to ponder the mystery by herself.
"Well I learned from the best," she pointed out before poking her tongue out at him rather petulantly. "Where do you think I learned all my scheming from, huh?" There was, of course, the question of where Tomas had learned it all from before her but that was beside the point. She smiled at him, feeling rather triumphant about her retaliatory response, no matter how light hearted and harmless it was.

If more siblings ever came into the pack, Tomas would find himself just as interested in the information Morgan hoped to collect for them. He likely wasn’t quite as curious about it as his sister was, but it would be interesting, finding out if other sets of siblings could read each other as well as he and Morgan could or if it was something that was a bit more unique, something with the bond between them rather than something shared by all siblings. It would, he thought, be a bit more interesting if it was just something between him and Morgan, but there was no denying that it would be fascinating if it turned out to be something that all siblings shared.
Rather than taking the bait, Tomas grinned. “Well, at least you admit that I’m the best. I mean, really, I wouldn’t want you learning important things like scheming from anyone but the best.” Who he had learned it from, he was honestly uncertain. Perhaps it was just a natural gift.

"The best at being sneaky and underhanded," she pointed out with narrowed eyes even though her brother went on to point those things out for himself. "I didn't say you were the best at anything else, dear brother." She smiled innocently and cocked her head against the ground with her red hair spilled out all around her like a richly coloured halo. Of course she actually believed her brother was the best at other things, he was a skilled fighter, gifted even and that made him the best protector and role model she could ever ask for.
"Who else would I learn scheming from anyway?" she asked him with curiosity in her gaze. "Jeremy? Violet? There's scheming and then there's insane pranks, I don't think I'm made for the latter, do you?" She certainly didn't think she was but it was amusing to toy with the idea all the same, her smile growing as she looked up at him from where she lay on her back on the ground.

“I’m willing to take what I can get. If I’m the best at being sneaky and underhanded, then so be it. At least I’m the best at something useful because, with you, I have to be underhanded.” In all honesty, sometimes sneaky and underhanded could be used in a fight, whether it was just in a play fight with his sister or in an actual fight. It wasn’t like anyone trying to kill him was going to fight cleanly, so he needed to know a few tricks just to stay on his feet and keep breathing long enough to take care of the problem. Fighting dirty wasn’t really who he was, but when it came down to staying alive, he was going to do what he had to. When it came to his sister, sometimes it was just fun to take her by surprise.
“I think you manage insane pranks if that was what you really wanted to do,” Tomas told her, “but scheming is better.” His little sister could do anything she put her mind to and insane pranks were no exception. “I’m sure Jeremy and Violet would be happy to teach you their version of scheming if you wanted them to, but I think they’ve got their particular area of expertise pretty well covered.”
