In his mind there were few things better than settling down with a book that you knew backwards and forwards, one where you could virtually picture the scene taking place on the pages in front of you and where you knew the characters so well that even if the author didn't give you a detailed look in to what they were thinking you could imagine it yourself. Marshall had settled down with just such a book, it was one that he had read so many times that he barely had to focus on the words to know what was going on. Some might find that boring and Marshall could think of quite a few members of the pack who thought just that but to him it was like getting together with old friends who you hadn't seen in a long time and getting reacquainted. There was something comfortably familiar about it all and it helped to settle him when he was feeling agitated for some reason, there weren't many things that could have that affect on him.
Books were one and from the familiar scent that met his nose another was standing just outside his door. Marshall had placed the book down on the desk before Sissy even knocked on the door, a smile spreading on his face as he waited a beat before doing anything. "Come in, Sissy," he called to the female who had decided to grace him with her presence. His smile growing slightly as she opened the door.
"To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?"

There was absolutely nothing wrong with reading books until one knew the story backwards and forwards, knew the characters so well that they became like friends, but sometimes, something new was needed. Something that held twists and turns that had yet to be experienced with characters that had yet to be encountered who might become like new friends. She had several books in her own collection that had been read so many times they were beginning to be in desperate need of replacing and there were a few that she had already replaced once or twice, frequent re-reading deeming it necessary as the pages became worn despite her careful handling of them. She had finished a book the night before that she knew so well she could have explained it all to someone, many favorite quotes by her favorite characters included word for word, but for her, this night seemed more suited to something new.
She couldn’t help but give a little smile when Marshall told her to enter. Around the Hyperion, it was no surprise when someone called to you by name to enter when you knocked- or even before you did, sometimes. That was what came from being werewolves, with all of the heightened senses of one, but she still couldn’t help her smile. There were others she could have gone to in order to ask about books, but Marshall had been the first to come to mind when she couldn’t find anything in the library that caught her attention.
She still had the smile when she opened the door and stepped into the room. She didn’t want to interrupt whatever he might be getting ready to do any longer than necessary, so she would try to be quick in her search. “I was actually hoping you might let me take a look through your books. After I didn’t find anything that caught my attention in the library, you were the first one I thought to ask. I hope I’m not interrupting anything. I can come back when it’s convenient to you if I am.”

There were times when new things were needed, for Marshall those times didn't come around too often but that didn't mean that occasionally he didn't want to try new things be they new books or new foods. There was just something about things that were well known that could make him feel comfortable in some situations that he wouldn't naturally find himself able to settle in. He needed familiarity at times and that was one of the many reasons that he tended to go back to the same books over and over again. He clung to the things that helped him to settle be they objects or other members of the pack. He would never be able to cope if he suddenly found himself alone without some of those familiar things around him.
It was impossible to sneak up on someone in the Hyperion, with all those heightened senses around you would have to be a ninja who had no natural scent to be able to catch anyone unaware and seeing as there weren't any of those in the Hyperion it was normal for people to be called by name before a door was opened. There would have been no sense in not calling to Sissy by name as she would have expected him to know she was there before she opened the door and entered his room and he would never want to disappoint her. He didn't yet know why she was there but he never minded her coming by no matter what her reasons for dropping by where.
He smiled more when she entered the room and waited for her to reply to his question though in all honesty he didn't care if she was just there to hang out for a few hours, for her he would make time no matter what he was doing when she came by. "Of course you can take a look through my books, feel free to help yourself to anything that catches your eye. You're not interrupting at all I was actually just reading myself. Now is fine, it's no inconvenience at all." He couldn't actually imagine Sissy ever being an inconvenience to him she was one of the people he would always make time for at the drop of a hat regardless of what he had planned himself.

For her, if something new was needed over something well-worn and well-known really just depended on her mood, on whether or not she was restless. The restless times called for something new, something that she had never experienced reading before and would, therefore, without any doubt keep her mind riveted to it, just because a story that she knew well was something she could easily revisit in her mind while she wandered aimlessly, since when she was especially restless, sitting still was simply far too hard. It wasn’t often she got so terribly restless, but it had just proven to be one of those rare nights when the only thing that would be able to help her sit still was something new. She had had to leave behind everything that was familiar to her once, so she very much appreciated the well-known and comforting, but something new was, quite simply, [i[needed[/i].
The fact that it was impossible to sneak up on someone within the hotel (unless they were very seriously not paying any attention whatsoever to what was going on around them, though that wasn’t something any of them tended to do) was a fact that everyone knew, though it didn’t stop some from trying. Everyone had to have their hobbies, after all, and if it was trying to be a ninja in a hotel full of werewolves, then good luck to them. They’d need it to be successful.
“Thanks, Marshall.” She shut the door behind her and moved farther in the room, going to his book collection in order to take a look and see what she could find. “I’ll try to find something fast so you can get back to your book. I won’t disturb you any more than necessary. I can look in silence if you’d rather I did.”

The times that Marshall found himself longing for something new and unknown were those when he was at his most settled, when he was comfortable with everything that was going on around him and the pack. He was very much a creature of habit and he had to be in the right frame of mind to want to indulge in something new and different, it wasn't that he was afraid of the unknown but he preferred the familiarity of the well known. It was just the way he was, everyone was different and he knew many who always wanted new thing but that wasn't for him, he liked things just so, everything in its place and the more well known the better.
Marshall couldn't actually remember a time he had managed to sneak up on someone in the hotel but he wasn't really one to try. He knew a few that certainly tried to sneak up on others all the time but they didn't have much success. He did enjoy seeing them attempt it even if it almost always ended in failure, it was worth watching just to catch the odd time they were successful.
"You're welcome, Sissy." He watched her as she moved towards his book shelves and began browsing the contents. "Take your time," he told her as he shifted slightly in his chair so that he was facing her direction. "You're not disturbing me at all and I've read this book more times than I can count so I'm in no rush to get back to it if you want to talk while you look."

They all had their own preferences. Some would rather read, watch or experience something new every time, not caring to return to something they had already experienced, while others enjoyed reliving things over and over again, finding comfortable familiarity with something and preferring to stick with what they knew so well. She saw the benefits of both and had the tendency to let her mood determine which she indulged in. The familiar could be warm and comforting, something she wanted to lose herself again and again, but the new could be exciting and adventurous. Sometimes, though, exciting and adventurous could be really overrated.
It was almost always worth standing back and watching someone as they attempted to sneak up on someone, especially when they thought they were doing a good job of it and just might succeed. Such a thing was, more often than not, extremely amusing and, she had found, made for a great afternoon activity.
She gave him a quick smile over her shoulder. She was still worried that she might be disturbing him, but if he said that she wasn’t, then she had to take his word on it. That didn’t mean that she wouldn’t try to keep her visit short, though. She hated being a burden. “Well, as long as you’re certain. I hate interrupting anyone when they’re busy.”

Marshall always found it entertaining when someone attempted to sneak up on another member of the pack, it could be especially entertaining if the one being stalked was wise to it but played along until the other party was too close to avoid the inevitable attack. Watching those that chose to practice their ambush tactics could make for a great activity as long as you didn't get caught up in the inevitable raucous activity that could come about after many of these attempts. It wasn't that Marshall didn't like the more energetic activities that came with pack life he just personally preferred some of the quieter pursuits most of the time, occasionally he would become restless and need to indulge in some form of physical exercise and when those times came he could be just as energetic as any other member of the pack.
He returned her smile and shifted slightly in his chair to lean towards her more. He would never think that she was a disturbance to him, though he suspected that she might feel that she was even if he said otherwise. He enjoyed her visits and would never want to keep them short if he had any say in the matter. She was never a burden to him and he would never think of her as one. "I'm certain, you're not interrupting me. It wasn't like I was busy doing anything that couldn't be left until another time anyway," he told her as he got up to move towards the shelves to help her look for something to read. "What are you in the mood for?"

It was hard not to pay attention when someone was attempting to sneak up on another pack member, though it was always best to do whatever could be done not to give away what was going on. That would just ruin the fun. When someone was attempting an ambush, it was always best to stay back and out of the way, just to make sure there wasn’t going to be any getting caught up in it. Unless, of course, that seemed like the fun thing to do, because sometimes, there was energy to be burned and she liked to join in on the fun. Sometimes, just being there to witness what was going on, especially if she was in a position to see the ambush coming, was enough to get her pulled into the aftermath if the one getting ambushed decided to get revenge on her for not sounding a warning. There was no need for a warning, of course, and they all knew it, but it was still fun anyway. She usually ended up laughing until she could barely breathe and trying to gasp out an apology.
She was acutely aware of Marshall as he shifted his position and leaned towards her, even as she continued studying the books. “I’m glad that I’m not interrupting you. I’d really hate to do that.” She was even more aware of what he was doing when he actually got up and moved towards her. She couldn’t help it. “I think something with a good mystery to it. It feels like a mystery kind of time. Do you have any recommendations?”

Personally Marshall preferred to be a silent observer as he didn't want to get caught up in a sneak attack on another pack member if he could help it. There was of course always the risk that standing by silently would result in you getting involved whether you wanted to or not. Even though there was no need to sound a warning not doing so could make you the target if the one being ambushed decided to take revenge. It was always in good humour though. There wasn't anyone in the pack that would take it in any other way than what it was intended. These ambush attempts almost always ended up with at least one if not more pack members in fits of laughter. It was hard not to get caught up in the laughter even if you had avoided getting caught up in anything that came before it.
"I can guarantee that you will never interrupt me." He couldn't imagine her ever interrupting him or being a disturbance. When it came to her he didn't think she could do any wrong and he would tell her such if he thought she needed to hear it and he could actually manage to get the words out without getting embarrassed. As he stood close to her he couldn't help but draw her scent in a little deeper, he did it without even thinking. "Let's see, a mystery," he mused allowed while he looked over the spines on the shelf before pulling out a couple that he knew were full of mystery and intrigue. "What about one of these?"

She had to be in the mood to really participate if she accidentally got caught up in something, but there were times when she didn’t feel like being the quiet observer and wanted in on the action. If that was the mood she was in, she would sometimes join in on the attempted ambush, just to see how close they could get before the intended target made it known that they knew they were there. She always knew that they would realize they were coming, of course, but it could be fun to be silly and attempt an ambush that was doomed to fail right from the beginning. It wasn’t often that she would actually join in with such things, but sometimes it just seemed like so much fun that she couldn’t resist. Occasionally, when she requested to join in on such a mission, she would get a surprised look, but those who knew her best knew that she occasionally got into such a mood and simply grinned at the thought of having a partner in crime. Pranks weren’t her thing, but the rare ambush could be a fun undertaking.
“I’m really glad.” She really did hate to interrupt anyone and, though she would feel like she probably was disturbing him at some point or another, at least she could think back on what he said and hope that it still held true down the line. She wouldn’t have known what to say had he told her that, but she would have been flattered and fluttery. That much was for certain. She watched as he chose books and took a look at the ones he pulled from the shelf as his recommendations. “Oh, they both look like they’ll be good. I think I may have to do some careful consideration before I can decide.”

Most of the time he really did prefer to be the quiet observer, the one who just sat and watched as others got caught up in the action but occasionally he would get the urge to join in. Those urges were rare but they had been known to take hold of him sometimes and when they did he went with them. It could be fun to join in on attempted ambushes though Marshall wasn't at all skilled on creeping up on anyone so any attempt that he joined was pretty much guaranteed to end in a catastrophic failure, not that many ended in success anyway. That was one of the many reasons that kept him sitting on the sidelines most of the time, it was just more fun to watch others attempt to ambush someone and he didn’t want to ruin anyone’s fun by making too much noise. Marshall didn’t really get the whole idea of pranks but that didn’t mean he would stop anyone else from pulling them, everyone had their own thoughts on what was fun and what wasn’t and who was he to disagree with those that enjoyed such things.
"Good," he told her simply with a soft smile on his face. He really hoped that she would remember that in future because he would never think of her as a disturbance or an interruption, it would always be that way. While he might like to think he’d be able to come out and say that she could do no wrong he knew there was a very real possibility that he would end up tripping over his words if he actually tried to tell her, sometimes she just had that effect on him. He watched as she looked over the books he’d pulled out, waiting for her to choose one of them. "They are both good, or I think so anyway. If you can’t decide between them you are welcome to borrow them both for as long as you want."

For the most part, she had the tendency to find that there was more fun to be had in watching than join in when it came to something like an ambush, but there were times when she just couldn’t resist the thought of randomly joining in on something so silly. The moods simply came over her at times and, really, there was no harm in simply going along with such moods. No one was going to get hurt (there might be some playful threats about such things, but they were never serious) and, really, it was all in fun, something that everyone involved, even the one they were attempting to ambush or prank, understood. They always knew that ambushes, especially, weren’t going to be successful, but there was great fun to be had in trying sometimes, just like there was great fun to be had in simply watching at others.
She looked to him and gave a soft smile of her own. She would do what she could to remember what he had said, but that really didn’t mean that she wouldn’t still feel as if she might be interrupting something when she stopped by. She simply couldn’t help it. It was something she worried about, even while she was being assured that it wasn’t the case at all. When he said that she was welcome to borrow both of the books if she couldn’t decide between them, she gave a smile. “Borrowing them both would be wonderful, Marshall. Thank you. I read like a fiend, so I don’t expect that it’ll take me long at all to read them. I’ll bring them back as soon as I finish them and, who knows? I might have to see if I can convince you to recommend some more for me."

Marshall would never really be thought of as one of the silly ones, there were others in the pack who earned that title and who it suited better but that didn't mean that he didn't have his silly moments. It was when those moments came that he was more likely to try and join in on something like an ambush, something that was so obviously doomed to failure before the idea even sprang in to anyone's mind but it didn't stop it from being fun though. It was harmless fun at the end of the day, sure there would be threats made but none of them were ever serious, everyone knew that it was just a way for some of them to blow off steam and no one would ever deny another member of the pack the opportunity to do that. None liked to be serious all the time, which is why when the mood did take him even Marshall would join in on something as silly as an attempted ambush.
He couldn't help but smile more when he saw her smile, it was just a natural reaction and one he really had no power over. He would hate to know that she felt like she might be interrupting something any time she stopped by but he really didn't know how to make it any clearer to her. It was sweet that she worried about things like that and just one of the many things that he found endearing about Sissy, she really did care what others thought. He hoped that she would actually accept the offer to borrow them both, it wasn't as if he was going to be reading them anytime soon and even if he did want to he knew where they would be. "You are most welcome and don't worry about how long it will take you, you are welcome to keep them for as long as you want. I am always happy to recommend some more books for you, all you have to do is ask."

All in all, Sissy imagined that she was thought of as one with a silly streak that could, on occasions, come to the surface rather than a properly silly member of the pack. There were far sillier than she, though, at times, she really could give them a run for their money. It just had to strike her as the right time for such a thing and she had to be in just the right kind of mood. Not that that meant that she wouldn’t very thoroughly enjoy watching something silly that was going on at any time it might occur, of course. Sitting back to watch and enjoy was entirely different from joining in and was something that she would happily do whenever the chance showed itself. After all, watching others doing something like making an attempt to ambush someone was always a good source of entertainment.
She really couldn’t help but worry that she might be interrupting when she stopped by to see someone, no matter who it was or what time of day it might be. After all, everyone had things they enjoyed doing and there were times when they most likely didn’t want to be interrupted, so she had the tendency to hesitate and fight with herself a bit before she went off to drop in on someone. She really didn’t want to be a bother, so it was often hard for her to convince herself to stop and see someone, whatever the reason for the visit might be. “Thanks again. I’ll make sure to keep that in mind, but I should probably read these two before I start asking for more advice. Otherwise, I might find myself reading three or four books at once.” It wouldn’t have been the first time that it had happened, but it really was easier to keep up with what was happening when she managed to keep the books she was reading at any one time down to a minimum. Otherwise, she was always afraid that they might start blending together.

Marshall really didn't mind the fact that he would be thought of as one of the quiet ones, it was true after all and it would be silly to get annoyed about something that was true. He was comfortable with how he was, he didn't need to act the fool all the time or join in on every silly activity that took place within the pack, just knowing that he could join in if he felt so inclined was usually enough for him. More often than not he was content to watch from a distance and laugh at events as they unfolded, safe from getting tangled up in any sort of play fight that could so often follow on from something like an attempted ambush. Those play fights could be entertainment in their own right, watching as fighters and non-fighters engaged in a friendly game that often ended with everyone in stitches on the floor in a big heap with their limbs entangled.
He understood that worry as it was something he suffered from himself at times, just as many probably did. It was one of those niggling little voices that could crop up in the back of your head and convince you that you were being a nuisance and that you were bothering the person you had stopped by to visit and once that voice had chimed in it could be very hard to ignore. Sissy needn't have worried about bothering him though, he would never find her presence anything put welcomed but he just couldn't put that in to words that didn't sound stupid. "You are of course most welcome, Sissy," he told her with a smile. "It can be quite interesting to read several books at once, just as long as they are different enough that you don't confuse the characters and the storylines." He'd done that a few times himself and had ended up more than a little confused once or twice so he tried to avoid reading multiple books if he could but sometimes the books just begged to be read right then rather than waiting until he'd done with his current ones.
