Continued from: Alleys and Streets; The Rooftops with Striker.
There were always new lessons to be learned. Hunter had picked up on that swiftly, near the beginning, and ever since he had pursued new tricks and skills with a ferocity becoming a member of the ‘flock’. It was expected of him, that excellence, and he always chased it with vicious eagerness. Just as Striker learned from him, Hunter in turn was educated loosely, in-passing, by those older than him.
The more muscular male had indeed been right behind Striker, overtaking him at one point out of habit before telling himself to hang back and allow the younger wolf to do as he had all but instructed. It was difficult, taking the backseat, but this was only a tame example, and where it mattered when it was just the two of them, Hunter would take command and be in the lead once again.
The Four Seasons, the home of the city’s smaller pack, as it turned out, was a disappointingly unremarkable building. Hunter examined it critically, grunting in disapproval. An unfitting place for a pack to live, at best.

He all but melted into the shadows, the surrounding buildings providing plenty of cover for him and his older companion. Striker crouched low on the dark balconey of the fire escape, peering stealthily out through the black metal bars to take in what he could of the hotel. Hmph. Bit shabby for a pack house.
"Small pack," Striker muttered. The statement was under his breath, but Hunter would still be able to hear him. "Seems to be less of a unit. They're...separated, somehow. Clique-ish. There's tension."

The building drew too much attention. In no way was it subtle, and while Hunter fully believed werewolves to be the truly, rightfully dominant species on the planet, it being only a matter of time before they took that place and made it their own, he also believed that discretion was key to their survival. This pack, and no doubt the other, larger one, were far from hiding their presence. It wouldn’t be difficult for even simple-minded humans to realise there was something amiss about a large hotel that no longer took guests but was clearly occupied by a generous amount of individuals. Anyone with even a scrap of imagination would start making assumptions.
“Something we can use to our advantage,” Hunter rumbled, standing beside his crouched companion, strong hands gripped almost casually but still readily around the cool metal bars that separated them from the slight drop to the street below.

Striker gave a short nod. Hunter was right: a pack was meant to be a unit. The closer they worked together, the stronger they would be. Any kind of separation or dissention would weaken the integral structure and make it easy for the pack to be taken down. That was why, in Striker's opinion, his pack worked so well. They were strong together -- nigh-undefeatable.
Though, nonetheless...
"Why go after this pack?" the younger fighter finally asked. "They might pull themselves apart before long without our help. Why bother?"

A pack was not strong unless they worked as one, as a unit, a team; the wolves effectively soldiers under a powerful leader, a general. It was possible, some might say, that Hunter was biased to his Alpha’s methods, but in his eyes, no leader matched up to his own. He was the Alpha for a reason, the oldest and strongest of them all, the first. When the time of werewolves truly came, it would be their Alpha to lead the way. Of that, Hunter had no doubt.
Without turning his head towards his younger companion, his voice still a deep rumble, he explained simply, “Even with different territories, two packs in the same city may unite against a common threat.” The pause would have been classed dramatic, had their conversation been anything but private amongst the shadows of the fire escape. “Better to remove the possibility altogether.” Dark eyes turned to gaze at Striker. “Divide and conquer.”

"Ahhh..."
Now that Hunter had explained it, it made more sense. Despite whatever animosity hung between this pack and the other one across town, there was the possibility that, if they were both threatened, they would come together in order to defeat that threat. Striker knew his pack was strong -- unbreakable, in his eyes -- but there were strong fighters in this pack, and in Stanton's. Best not to risk it.
"They don't have much in the way of scouts," Striker murmured as he squinted toward the roof. There were a few pack members up top, but none that seemed to be trying to keep watch. "Don't seem very vigilant."

Disappointed though he was at having to explain such motives to the younger wolf, Hunter held his tongue. Though older than his companion and therefore more dominant just through instinct and their very nature, it was not his place to truly school Striker, in any way. That was the right of their Alpha, and Hunter would never dream of taking such responsibility from their leader.
“They believe their numbers provide them safety,” Hunter remarked as his dark eyes scoured the structure ahead of them, watching lights ignited and extinguished, silhouettes shifting across windows, some lacking drapes or blinds, providing the watchful pair with brief glimpses of individuals. “Their naivety is a weapon we can use them against.” Hunter paused, taking in a breath that expanded his already broad chest. “A weapon we will use against them.”

Striker was young. He made no illusions to the fact that that made him less experienced, less wise, than most of his packmates. With plenty to learn, he was always looking to take information from those around him, but he knew that he could only truly be schooled by his Alpha. There were more questions burning in the back of his mind, but he could hold back. This was not the time.
"Shouldn't be a difficult take down," the young wolf muttered. "Once panic sets in, they'll tear each other apart. Might not even bother to try and regroup again."

With the exception of their Omega, Striker was the youngest amongst them, and always would be, save, of course, for any potential new members their Alpha might initiate; while Hunter was sceptical about the notion, given how balanced they were now, anything was possible, and he had never underestimated their leader’s drive and determination, let alone his logic. If he decided they needed another for whatever reason, Hunter would not argue the decision, would of course back it and support his Alpha however he could, physically and mentally alike.
“And if they do, they’ll be weaker, their numbers diminished.” Almost like culling the herd, he mused. “They’ll be too focused on picking up the pieces of their fragile ‘pack’ to realise they were never the real target.” Hunter and the others would probably even be doing this so-called ‘pack’ a favour by thinning their numbers. It was inevitable that there would be casualties in the attack, but the older male of the pair wasn’t hoping for anything less…

The younger wolf smiled, but the expression held little in the way of humor. He only ever did what his Alpha required of him, for that was all he could remember. Of course, that didn't mean that Striker didn't find a way to enjoy himself every now and again. Perhaps there was a life outside of the pack, but he saw no reason to pursue it. They were a strong, nigh-unbreakable unit, one that had been perfected over the years -- centuries, maybe -- and they were a force to be reckoned with.
"Where next?" he rumbled, vaguely impatient. There wasn't much else they could gather from this vantage point, at least, not that he could see. "What about the other pack? Stanton, across town?"

That was all they ever needed to do; what their Alpha required of them. Anything else would suggest they were individuals, not part of an organised unit, a well-oiled machine, a swift and deadly pack. They were ruthless warriors, bred and trained to devastate and destroy, with tooth and claw and fist, and that was what they did, with brutal efficiency. There were no wolves as fearsome or fierce as them; of that, Hunter was certain.
A low grumble sounded in Hunter’s throat, a noise that could have been a growl, but it failed to form fully if that was what it had once been. “Take us there.” Striker would lead the way, scouting ahead, with his elder trailing behind, bringing up the rear. Hunter was testing the younger male, seeing if he could get them from one point to the other without being guided.

He crushed down any hint of anxiety. To show nerves was to prove that you were weak, and Striker had learned to avoid that at all cost. He had trained well, paid attention even when he wasn't officially in training. Yes, combat was his forte, but with his pack, someone couldn't afford to be a one-trick pony. Combat expertise could only get him so far, because what happened when he was out-manned and in need of an escape route?
So Striker straightened his posture and turned his face into the wind. The scent of the dominant pack in this area was just that, dominant, but as the wind shifted ever-so-slightly, he could pick up a new scent. One that belonged to their true target. The younger fighter took only a moment to make sure that his focus surrounded that scent completely before he looked to Hunter, giving only a sharp nod before he bounded up the sound of the building and sprinted off, silent and swift, towards their next destination.

POST TIMESKIP.
The air around the ground was charged, thick with electric anticipation and a primal, brimming excitement. On the outside there was no clue, each and every exterior was collected and composed, five immaculate masks, stony and completely controlled, just bordering on grim. Intimidating, even. Inside, perhaps, they were smirking or grinning, but as the building loomed close to them, its occupants ignorant and unaware of the threat so close, poised on the brink, but they gave nothing away. They had been trained that way, each and every one of them, and they simply did not sway from their training.
Hunter discreetly turned his dark eyes from his observation of the hotel where the weaker of the city's large packs resided, looking past Kincaid at his side to Sheppard who stood, proud and powerful, at their centre. It would by their Alpha who gave the command to the pack, and then they would rain down terror and destruction on those within the walls of The Four Seasons. They would show the wolves inside that old hotel just how a pack worked, how lethal and efficient a true pack was, hunting as one, working as a team, unwavering and merciless.

Kincaid's expression was always an impassive mask, lacking emotion of any kind at all. He was a silent wolf, even among a pack of few words it was a rare thing to hear him speak and now was no exception. Awaiting the word of the Good Sheppard for them to attack without even so much as a glimmer of anticipation or excitement. It was a simple equation to him; they were to go in and do as they were asked by their Alpha and that was exactly what would happen. This fractured little pack of nothings wouldn't stand a chance, They were children. lost little children scrambling around to save their sinking ship and they would fail where they, the stronger and more committed, the purer pack would prevail.
Hunter turned his head and the movement prompted Kincaid to do the same, glancing at Sheppard respectfully before looking back at Hunter and giving the wolf a militaristic nod of acknowledgement.

It was difficult for the young male to mask his excitement. He knew that it was unbecoming to smirk or grin when he needed to be paying attention to his leader -- his Alpha -- but it was just so damned hard. As soon as the chaos started, this pack would fly apart completely, utterly; leadership would crumble and the rest of them would be easy pickings. They would be able to charge through and take down whoever dared to stand before them without a serious struggle -- there was no way this pack could compare to them.
Striker shifted his stance in spite of himself. Fidgeting was juvenile, it gave him away as a fledgling fighter, but it couldn't be helped. The anticipation in the air drew over his skin, snapped and smarted like a zap from a livewire. He wanted to move, to fight and kill as he was intended to. Striker eventually had to keep his hands tucked tight to his sides, fists tight enough to make his knuckles go white. Sheppard would give the word and then the takedown would begin. He would make his Alpha proud.
He was trained for this.
