She is nearly always sunny and cheerful, aiming to brighten her day and everyone she comes into contact with. Her personality could be considered hyper whenever she has energy and Blu is often heard to be blaming either her coffee or her sugary snack
She loves her job and is a friend to almost everyone in the station, making a point of learning each and every name so that she can greet them as if she has known them all her life. Blu makes friends easily, although some people can be put off by her clothing only to find that her cheery attitude is the opposite of their expectations. Although she does share some traits with the 'goth' personality such as liking metal, planning her funeral and writing poetry on the whole she is upbeat and optimistic about life as a whole.
Blu has a wide and somewhat eccentric taste in music, ranging from Opera to classical to 'bubble pop' and then to heavy metal. She loves pretty much any type of music and it is rare for her to not to listening to something. Blu is very good at keeping secretes and can be trusted to do so.
The young woman has gone to great lengths to keep her illness a secret from everyone she knows , including family, friends and collages. Her 'Goth' make-up and dress sense means her growing anaemia have not been picked up on and with some juggling she has been able to keep the truth of her hospital visits secret for the time being. Blu is proud and doesn't want to admit her illness to anyone else unless she really has to. She believes that saying things give them power and as such fears that to admit it would help it beat her. Now and then she buys cannabis on the street to combat the pain, something she feels guilty about. Although cannabis is legal for medical purposes in LA, it is both cheaper and stronger if bought illegally . Blu is not good at hiding feelings like guilt.
Since the discovering of her illness she gets the rare bout of depression and morbid thoughts. She can become quite bitter and self-loathing in these times, because of this she tries her best to make sure she is alone when the dark mood comes even though she would feel better if she wasn't so alone – Blu feels very alone.
Weaknesses: Blu is a mortal and as such can die in any number of ways. Without a doubt, Blu's biggest weakness is her chronic leukaemia and the symptoms surrounding it. She gets injured and tired a lot easier and faster than a regular human and as such could die from a relatively minor injury. Her cancer is still very active and could kill her. Although she doesn't act it, she is terrified of loosing to her cancer. Blu is allergic to peanuts and has a morbid fear of flying.
Abilities: Blu has trained in kick boxing and karate for seven years and is a brown belt in the later although she has had to give it up recently. Blu is very good at her job, and is rather clever, working hard and solving the problems presented to her. She has very good hearing and is widely versed in all manner of music, able to recognise most songs by the first few bars. Has a very good memory for faces and names. Blu is also a published poet, her work appearing in several anthologies around the country.
Weapons: A knuckleduster although she has never actually used it in a fight.
Prized Possessions: Her brown belt in karate – a symbol of better times. Her iPod which goes everywhere with her.
Home(s): An apartment in Cole's side of the city.
History: Blu was the eldest child of three born to Adam and Kelly West. From an early age she was interested in the more 'geeky' aspects in school, content to read a book and work on her homework in the evenings. When she was prised away from her books, Blu proved to be a cheerful and happy child, leading Adam and Kelly to focus on her younger brother and sister, both of them had troubles. Her brother Ethan was always getting into fights and her sister Tess was becoming far too wild and rebellious.
With both her parent's attentions elsewhere, Blu grew up very self-reliant, always feeling somewhat alone and disconnected from her family although she loved them dearly. The young girl never felt as if she truly fit in to her family or her life. During her teens years she discovered her love for 'goth' clothing, her talent in poetry and her musical tastes. Her parents rounded on her, demanding to know what had happened to their 'perfect' daughter, despite the fact she was still the same happy person. Blu left home at sixteen, unable to bare the stifling family conditions at home.
She moved from city to city, taking an assortment of random jobs before her urge to move took over. Thought her wandering years she kept in contact with her parents, who still seemed unable to accept her choice of lifestyle. They urged her again and again to come home and resume her life before what they called 'the un-natural' change. Both loved her but could never understand why she chose to have tattoos and wear what she did. Blu didn't listen however, happy with her life and what she was doing with it.
It was while working as a cleaner in Miami police station at the age of 22 that she discovered she had a natural affinity to computers and later to A/V work, working hard at night school to earn the qualifications she needed and after a while she was able to return to the station, this time as a lab technician. For a few years Blu was content where she was but eventually the urge to move became too strong again. This time however she resolved to keep in her field of work, transferring to the L.A police at the age of 26.
The cheerful woman fit in at once in her new environment, making friends with as many people as she could and doing her job with a clear dedication. As far as she was concerned, her life could stay this way forever. Roughly three months ago however she discovered shocking news while having a check-up. Complaining of feeling faint, increased tiredness and a sudden rash of bruises where there shouldn't have been, Blu learnt that she had chronic leukaemia. The news was a devastating blow for a girl who had believed she would live longer and although the Doctor assured her she had a good chance of recovering, Blu sank into depression for a while before resolving not to let it beat her.
So far her treatments have not resulted in her loosing her much loved hair, although she has a wig already for it. She was also forced into buying cannabis on the streets as she simply could not afford it with her health insurance – cancer was painfully expensive and she would sometimes joke to her doctor that it was the bills that were going to kill her in the end. Blu has taken to avoiding the Narcotics section of the station as much as she can out of a guilty concious. Although her occasional drabble in drugs is purely for pain relief she still feels bad and also knows that should she get caught it could mean the end of her job.
