Name: Moses Day
Nicknames: He doesn't really like nicknames, and normally goes by his surname if anything. He will answer to Mo or Mose though.
Race: Human
Occupation: Detective with the LAPD Narcotics division
Gender: Male
Skin Color: African-American descent
Age: 43
Clothing: Most of the time Moses will wear dark, plain clothing, being of the opinion that a cop doesn't need to be wearing flashy, pretty clothes when they're on duty. For the job he will wear a plain brown or black shirt with black slacks over which he will wear a black leather coat, and black shoes. Even when he's off duty the most daring he's willing to go is by wearing a purple shirt instead of one that's brown or black, as well as wearing a hat in the winter time. He usually has his badge clipped to his belt, and keeps his ID in his back trouser pocket.
Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 182lb
Tattoos: A modified biohazard sign on the back of his neck.
Moses' Tattoo
Piercings: None
Jewellery: A Fossil wristwatch
Moses' watch
Body Modifications: A gunshot wound on his left shoulder that he got on the job many years ago
Hair
Length: He normally prefers to be bald.
Style: If he grows it he'll normally have it in cornrows, but he's found it more of a hassle over the years so prefers to go bald.
Color: Black
Facial Hair
Length: Probably less than half an inch
Style: Goatee
Eyes
Color: Brown
Oddities: N/A
Personality: Moses is incredibly blunt and to the point: he can't be dealing with niceties and beating around the bush when explaining something which often times makes him come across as harsh or insensitive. When the situation requires it to be, he will be careful with his words to make sure he doesn't offend or otherwise cause more upset to a person, especially for victims of crimes he investigates. His determination can sometimes be a problem in this job especially if there's not enough evidence to get a conviction, because he will sometimes stop at nothing in order to "get" the bad guys.
He's an incredibly passionate man and often times when people talk to Moses they note the fact that he swears - and swears a lot - especially if he's talking about something he really hates. He's making a real effort now to tone the blaspheming down a little (he even tried out a swear box idea, but he ended up broke and gave up because he needed his money to buy drinks), but he wouldn't be Moses without a little swearing here and there.
During investigations and sting operations he remains calm and stoic unless he finds he has to chase some criminals, because that just makes him cranky and irritable. He's been in trouble a couple of times when he's been accused of police brutality because of his rather boisterous treatment of the criminals but this was, in the eyes of the law, an absolutely justified use of force, besides, they decided to run from him in the first place. His opinion of criminals is as low as it could possibly be, which makes him love his job so much: he gains pleasure from knowing that he's helping, little by little, to kick crime in the ass.
He, by the way, loves his name. He once shouted "What Day is it, motherfucker?!" at a criminal, and the phrase has now become infamous around the force. Occasionally he still gets asked what Day it is, to which they will receive a raised eyebrow and a stare.
He's extremely dedicated to his work and a lot of his colleagues would say he had no life outside of the force which is actually quite true. He will go out for drinks with his mates from work about once a week, and finds it easy enough to keep relationships with them going, but anything outside of work he has troubles with: he's already had one marriage break down because he couldn't "switch off", and she was demanding more attention from him than he was able to give.
Weaknesses: Top of the list would be Moses' mortality. Otherwise, Moses himself will tell people that he's never off duty and is always thinking like a cop. This inability to switch off led to the break-up of his marriage and his losing contact with his son but he doesn't seem to want to find a way to change this part of him. He also has an intense dislike of snakes after he was bitten whilst on duty and had to be rushed to a hospital that stocked the anti-venom for that particular snake. He wouldn't go as far as to say it was a fear, though, since he doesn't like to admit that he's afraid of anything, sometimes to his detriment.
Abilities: Due to his training Moses is a capable fighter both with firearms and in hand-to-hand combat, the latter being helped by his street-fighting skills that he developed to protect himself as he grew. He's very skilled with a variety of weapons and makes a point to visit the range a couple of times a week even if it's just to let off steam. Because of his upbringing Moses knows how things work on the streets and thus, knows the best ways to infiltrate a gang they suspect of being involved in drug dealing. His knowledge in this area has helped put a lot of drug dealers away.
In a vain attempt to try and have somewhat of a life away from the force he has developed a passion for building model airplanes, which allows him to focus totally and absolutely on something else, if only for an hour or so.
Weapons: Moses has a standard issue 9mm Beretta for when he's on duty and chooses to also carry his Beretta 92 Billennium, as well as a folding knife in his back pocket at all times. His personal firearms are two Glock 19s (one kept jamming so he got a new one, but couldn't bring himself to get rid of the old one), but doesn't use them very often.

History: Ever since Moses can remember he has wanted to work as a cop. Coming from a particularly rough part of town it would have been very easy for him to "get involved" with the wrong crowd, which was practically everyone in the neighbourhood: gangs and drug dealers ruled the street in this neighbourhood. Moses saw his fair share of violence which, in hindsight, helped to toughen him up, though at a ridiculously early age.
Unfortunately Moses was born into a poor area where the black community were looked down on and his dream seemed very far out of reach. Observing his surroundings he was never surprised at the way they were treated, considering all they ever did around this area was break the law. He tried to avoid it all as best he could but sometimes got into trouble anyway, just because of where he lived. This just made the young boy more determined to fulfil his dream one day.
One night a week shy of Moses' 16th birthday there was a gang related shooting by the basketball courts not 2 blocks from the family home. His father, Michael, was returning early from work so that the three could celebrate by going out for a meal together. Michael was not the intended victim: rather, he was collateral, in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nobody was ever arrested or held accountable for his father's death, nor was any effort made to find the shooters. Moses was devastated at having lost the one man he looked up to in this dead end neighbourhood he called home. During the following year his mother had to watch her son came dangerously close to slipping into the life she and Michael had fought so hard to keep Moses out of. Eventually she came to the decision that they had to leave the neighbourhood, the horrible memories and terrible prospects.
To Gloria's surprise her son was more than willing to leave - Moses may have been having a rough time but he still loved his mother, and knew that she was doing the best she could for the two of them now. So they scraped together what money they could and left, and never looked. They eventually settled in a decent area of town and though it wasn't exactly the Ritz it was a vast improvement on the life they had before and Moses would find himself living next door to the woman he would call his wife not 5 years from then. The two of them got jobs to be able to survive and at first it was very tough for the both of them but they took comfort in the fact that they could see a future.
Moses decided to enrol at the academy not too long afterwards with his mother's blessing. It was very hard for him to gain the respect of his peers, being the only black man in the entire academy at the time, but he stuck through the tough moments, focusing all of his energy on trying to be the best cop that he could be. When he began to excel at a faster rate than his peers they began to have some respect for the man and one particularly demanding training session later they were all friends for life. His rough and straightforward attitude saw him graduate with honours, becoming one of the few black men to do so in this time. His graduating seems to have inspired a lot of other young black men into realising that they were able to do this as well, something that Moses is proud to have contributed to, even a small amount.
After graduating he spent a few years on the streets, during which time he and his wife Elspeth were wed, and Moses couldn't be any happier. Later on he applied to the Homicide department with the hidden intention of using the resources to build his own case about the death of his father. Having mentioned it to his mother once her reaction made him promise never to bring it up in front of her again, but his curiosity began to get the better of him and he spent the better part of 2 years working on this unhealthy hobby of his.
He managed to find out about the rival gangs that were responsible for the shooting that occurred, both of which were heavily involved in drug dealing. Over the next few years he switched to the Narcotics department and became involved in the surveillance of the same two gangs that he himself had been investigating (though unofficially, of course), and insisted that he was involved in the operation that saw the two gangs brought down. With the arrests, he felt that a heavy weight was lifted from his shoulders and that he had avenged his father's death in some way. Though his primary reason for moving to Narcotics was gone he decided to stay on because he felt very comfortable and enjoyed his job immensely.
When he was 37, his marriage of 12 years to Elspeth dissolved. The two of them had been arguing for a few months prior to the split so both parties were ready for the separation, but it was anything but amicable. They fought for months for custody of their son which was eventually awarded to Elspeth and much to his horror she moved away without leaving a forwarding address, taking his son with her. He spent the next few years painstakingly looking for the two of them with the help of his friends in different departments. By the time he located them his wife had poisoned their son's mind against Moses to an extent that he intensely hated his own father.
He's not given up on his son just yet and is determined to one day make him see that he's not the monster that his mother made him out to be. Unfortunately he seems to have inherited his father's stubborn nature, and it's taken a very long time for the two of them to even start communication. Things are still a little tentative, but moving in the right direction.
Regardless of what he may have lost over the years he still loves his job and still has the same passion for it that he has when he was first enrolling all those years ago. His job is still his life.
