"Naturally," she had remarked after his quip about her making him go first. She chuckled to herself, and only watched him briefly, before joining him. After all, there was a difference between curiosity and plain old mockery, and she leaned much toward the former in any situation.
"Give yourself a break; I've definitely seen worse, and believe me, I've seen a lot in my time." Considering his loose request, she narrowed her eyes. "Well, I might be able to work something out, Nick," she told him. "But... you have a top ten? I count about four things you're good at so far, so what are the others?" She paused, spinning energetically to fill the moment, eyes quickly meeting his again. "Or do I have to wait and see?"

“I’ll give you the top five for now.” He gave a grin. “The rest you can wait on. Food, reporting, making fun of myself, holding my alcohol and finding the best places to go to kill a night. Anything musical is out, though.” He stumbled forward a half step, caught off guard as someone ran into him from behind. “Six: holding my temper when there are witnesses around.” He moved a half step closer to Lynnette simply to stop the woman behind him from stepping on his heels when she took a step back. He gave a half smile and a shrug as he found his- slightly off- rhythm again. He hated it when people crowded him and he was doing his best not to crowd Lynnette, but considering he had nearly lost a shoe when the woman had come down on the back of it, the slight movement forward had seemed the smartest way to go about things at the moment.

"Oh c'mon," Lyn laughed, "you can't have 'holding your alcohol' as one of your top five. All we- people like us can do that." True, it was very unlikely anyone would hear her over the music other than Nick, but she didn't want to take any chances; she was the kind of person who raised her voice to be heard over the music, and then had the song run out - it was ridiculously embarrassing to yell when there was nothing to yell over the top of, after all.
He wasn't crowding her, and she would tell him as much if he pointed it out, or tried to apologise for as much. After all, werewolves were usually pack creatures, and didn't mind close proximity to others of their own kind, so long as they weren't rivals of any kind. And it wasn't as if Nick could be considered anything even remotely like a rival to Lynnette. If anything, the tolerance for proximity was heightened during this time of the month.

“Okay, okay. Fine. We won’t count that one. Um… I have a photographic memory, so I’m good at remembering things I see. Now you’ve still got six.”
He took another step forward as he got run into again. “If I get too close for comfort, let me know and I’ll back off. It’s just I keep getting my heels stepped on.” Now that he had taken a full step forward, he really did feel as if he might be crowding her. When he was hit again he couldn’t help but comment, “If this keeps up much longer, I’m going to start thinking she’s running into me on purpose.”

"The photographic memory must come in useful in your line of work," she remarked casually as they danced.
Glancing around Nick discreetly to the - obviously tipsy - woman on the other side of him, Lyn lifted a brow, and then looked back to her companion. "It's no problem," she told him, even as she stepped forward again. "If it's bugging you, though, we can move?" She was comfortable where they were, but she was considerate to Nick's feelings on the matter - she wouldn't mind finding them another spot to dance if the woman was really starting to irritate him... which she wouldn't blame him for in the slightest.

“It does sometimes,” Nick agreed with a nod. “It makes for a lot less note taking in the field, that’s for sure.”
Glancing briefly over his shoulder at the woman, he replied only when he was facing Lynnette again. “We’re fine here. It felt like I nearly lost a shoe other and considering that I’m wearing these boots, that’s saying something, but we’re okay for now. I won’t be surprised if she goes for another drink soon.” The drunker they get, the more they always seem to drink. He kept that thought to himself, though, and realized that he had failed to list reading people- most people, because he certainly couldn’t say that he could read them all- in his list of things he was good at. That’s in the last four and those aren’t necessarily in order.

As if on some kind of cue, the woman stumbled off for another drink, with the two werewolves gratefully watching her go. She managed to get all the way through the crowd to the bar without falling over, at least, so she obviously hadn't had too much to drink yet.
Give her an hour, Lyn thought to herself with a mental shrug, turning her attention back on her dance partner. She'd meant what she had said earlier, about his dancing; she'd definitely seen worse in her time, but she'd seen better. Then again, when she thought that, she was of course referring to professionals she'd seen and danced with, so really, it wasn't fair to expect that kind of performance standard from Nick, and really, for someone who had obviously never trained or rehearsed as she had in the past, he was doing rather well.

“Easy to tell you’re a professional,” Nick commented, thankful the woman had finally headed back to the bar and off his heels. “What got you interested in dancing on a professional basis? I just sort of stumbled into reporting along the way.”
Nick had to admit that he was curious to learn a bit more about Lynnette’s past, but he was willing to share as much as received and he wasn’t going to push her to answer any questions that she didn’t want to. He knew perfectly well that some stuff was better left in the past, especially considering that he had he had a few instances that he could remember that belonged in that category. Nick wanted very badly to keep things comfortable between them, so he would have to make sure that he didn’t manage to put his foot in his mouth, something that he had been known to do on occasions.

"What got me interested?" She smiled at him, considering the inquiry as they moved. "Well, I'd always had too much energy," she began to explain, the lights swarming the interior of the club and illuminating Nick's face in random colours as she looked at him, "so from a young age, I'd always looked for hobbies that would help with that. Running and dancing are two things I just grew to love, and quickly at that." She laughed softly under the drum of the music.
"I didn't start pursuing it professionally until... about seventy or eighty years ago." Lyn wasn't afraid of being overheard, what with the noise in general, and everyone being too wrapped up in their own dancing and 'conversations'. "Of course, I'm sure you've had this problem yourself - it gets to a point where people are going to start noticing that you don't get any older, so you have to up and leave everything behind just to keep it all under wraps." She didn't sigh or frown, because in the interest of not being found out, she knew it had to be done, and therefore wasn't miserable or irritated by it exactly. It could get frustrating, certainly, especially if you developed ties in the time spent in one place, but so long as there was a reason to do it, then she would keep moving.

He nodded. “Yeah, it does get to that point, but I try to make it easy on myself. I don’t get overly attached to anyone and I keep reminding myself that I want to see as much of the world as I can. It’s still not fun to pack up everything and leave, but it’s not as hard as it could be, I guess.”
Nick really did understand how this sounded. It seemed sort of sad even to him, but he pushed that away. He had never taken to feeling sorry for himself and he certainly wasn’t about to start doing so now. He had only just moved to LA and he still had a good while before he had to move again. Until then, he wasn’t going to worry about it.

Nick and Lynnette were more alike than either of them probably realised. The female wasn’t one to get attached to people, if she could help it, but sometimes it was just out of her hands, and no matter how hard she tried, she felt herself growing fond of someone, or a group of individuals. “Can’t beat the life of a ‘rogue’, huh?” she quipped, with a hint of sarcasm. She rather disliked the word, but she supposed it fit. It was being singled out and ‘targeted’ by packs that she didn’t like, really, which hadn’t happened in a long time, thankfully.
“You thirsty yet?” she asked him after a while, still filled with energy to burn, but turning her brown eyes up to his hazel ones as she inquired. She had always been one to care about the well-being and needs of someone she considered a friend, and despite only really knowing him for a week, she was starting to feel that Nick definitely fit that description.

At Lynnette’s quip about the life of a rogue, Nick had simply shrugged. He personally didn’t mind the ‘title,’ but that was just the way he was. He had been known to use the title in regards to himself when he met up with another werewolf, so it certainly was no big deal.
“I’m good for now,” he told her in reply, “but if you’re ready for something, we’ll head to the bar.” The fact that Nick was so willing to be accommodating to Lynnette’s wishes and was putting to use his ‘gentleman’s’ skills was the only indication that he was slowly beginning to see her as a friend. If he was completely honest with himself, Nick would admit that he had never- as a human nor werewolf- had an actual friend. In his life before the bite, he had been too concerned with himself and what he wanted to be very concerned with it. For a century and a half after the attack, he had been too afraid that he would end up hurting someone to even go out in public unless he had to despite knowing that the moon was what brought out the wolf. By the time he had his beast under control, he had determined that life would be easier if he kept from getting close to people and had lived with that conclusion first and foremost in his mind. Now though, the determination to live by that decision was beginning to waver and he couldn’t decide if he was happy or miserable because of it.

"I'm good too," Lynnette replied with quiet confidence. "But these guys are starting to drive me a bit nuts." She glanced to the men around, who had had too much beer, and not enough schooling... clearly. "How about we head to the bar anyway?"
With that, she flashed him a smile, and turned to lead the way through the crowd of dancing humans; typically, there weren't many werewolves around, if any at all, and she could detect the scents of vampires, if only a few. It was mostly the mortal in the club. Lynnette couldn't decide if that was better or worse.
Supposing it wasn't important, she glanced over her shoulder to check Nick was there.

When Lynette glanced over her shoulder, Nick was indeed there, moving carefully around people in his path. Very few were actually polite enough to make an attempt to step out of the way, most of them completely oblivious to what was going on around them. Not that it was really any surprise.
As soon as the bar actually came into view, he scanned it quickly. There were only a few spots available there, but there were a good number of nearby tables free. He glanced to Lynnette, silently asking her preference.

And this was why Billie sang.
Even though not every person in the club was up and dancing, she could see the way they moved in their seats along with the energetic beat of the music. Their energy gave her energy, but if she kept this frantic pace up for much longer, Billie knew she'd tire herself out before long, and the night was still young. So, as her current upbeat song wound down, she signalled to the small band and they shifted easily into a more relaxed number.
"Phew...well, y'all, I'm gonna slow it down a bit - let me catch my breath, eh?" Billie eased into the smooth tempo and finally began to sing again.
