Dropping the bag of takeout on the table, he pulled off his jacket, unlocked his rather small locker, and bundled it inside, making sure everything was in before he closed and locked it once more, securing his keys at his belt and tucking them into his pocket for extra safety.
Setting himself down at the table, he pulled out some of the noodles, and was content to pass the time before his shift actually started by satisfing his appetite.

"There you are!"
Billie burst in rather clumsily, only just managing to tug her back out of the way before the door would have slammed shut on it. Smiling broadly, she dropped the duffle on the floor near Marco as she flounced over and granted him her customary peck on the cheek along with a one-armed hug.
"Evenin', sugah," she drawled in greeting with a crooked grin. "What'd ya bring me?"

For someone as noticeably... large, as Marco, it may have surprised many people to see someone as slight in comparison as Billie greet him in such a manner. He smiled, and chuckled at her entrance, eyeing her curiously as she spoke. "There's plenty," he told her, gesturing to the bag. "As usual, I got too much." Then again, it never did last if he left it sitting around; if he and Billie didn't finish it off, then the other staff working tonight certainly wouldn't waste the opportunity.
"And there's a little bit of everything; help yourself." It was stating the obvious. He'd not only sent her the message practically inviting her to join him, but he would have done so all the same even if he hadn't contacted her in advance.

Billie grinned and gave her companion's hair a light ruffling as she helped herself to a carton of what appeared to be fried rice. It was exactly the sort of junk that she shouldn't be eating, but dammit, it was good, and Marco had been sweet enough to share.
"I'm afraid I'll have to eat and run," she admitted around a partial mouthful. "I was supposed to be in for make-up about..." A brief glance to her watch and a smirk when she noted the time. "Ten minutes ago?"

Marco chuckled. "I'm on the bar in fifteen," he shared, nodding his head. "But with your record, I think I'm in more trouble of being late than you are..." They were used to Billie's tardiness by now; they let it slide, and Marco would be damned if he knew why. Of course, he didn't mind; he'd lived long enough to know that some people simply got off easier than others. Naturally though, with his size, he didn't stay on peoples' bad sides for long.
"Looks busy tonight," he said to her, nodding to the door she had used to enter.

"Excellent - more fun for me," she quipped with a bright smile. "You know how I love to play up for a full house."
Yes, Billie was a bit of a ham when it came to her work, but it paid the bills and nobody seemed to have a problem with it. So long as it kept the customers rolling in, she was told to keep on doin' what she was doin'.

Marco chuckled again; it seemed he was always in good spirits when around Billie, and really, who could blame him? She was hardly a pessimist by nature, and always had a way of making those around her cheerful one way or another. Whether that was cracking a joke or belting into a microphone, she brought smiles to faces. The large werewolf couldn’t argue with that.
“So long as we’re not understaffed on the bar, I don’t care,” he laughed. He remembered a night the previous week when someone had called in sick, and someone had just up and quit; the bar had been hell, but he and the other present staff members had just had to pull their weight, and then some, to keep it going. It hadn’t been too bad in the end, but Marco didn’t think he’d ever been so exhausted by the end of a shift before.

Billie snorted into her noodles; she remembered that night, as well, or rather she remembered Marco's condition after said night. She had insisted on sticking around until he was done with his shift so she could walk him home and hopefully prevent him from sleepwalking into the busy street. Obviously, she had succeeded, much to the delight of both parties.
"Gawd, that night was a disaster," the singer recalled. "But you and the rest of the gang sure pulled it off with style." She punctuated the statement with a sly grin and a mock salute. "Kudos, Marco-baby."

"If you can call utter chaos style, then we sure did," he agreed with a laugh, skewering a piece of chicken out of his carton, and then eating it. Billie made him laugh without even having to try, and that was perhaps what he loved about her so much; it definitely made her a very good friend, at any rate. He trusted her, and admired her... but he couldn't tell her about what he really was. That was the only regret in their friendship.
"So what are you going to sing tonight?" He looked up from his own noodles. "One of my favourites, I hope." He pointed at her with his eating utensil, almost in warning, but was unable to keep a straight face.

"Marco, I'm insulted!" Ever the ham, she placed a hand upon her heart in feigned hurt and poked at her companion with a chopstick. "You know I always sing one for you, sugah. All you have to do is gimme a request and I'm your little canary."
Marco was, after all, Billie's closest friend from the club, being the over-sized sweetheart that he was; he'd been the one who had shown her the ropes of L.A., and he was the one who'd helped her land a steady job at the Onyx. She owed him everything.

The large werewolf grinned at his friend, and then tucked into his noodles once more, his smile softening to a calmer degree. In a break in his feasting, he said to her, "We should head out for coffee after the shift, if we don't finish too late."
It was a frequent activity for them, and one that Marco enjoyed. He'd only really come to enjoy coffee in the last forty years or so, but with living in a big city like LA, one quickly acquired a taste for it. And of course, there was no better way to enjoy it than after a long shift, with a friend. "My treat."

Billie beamed at her large friend as she finished her own dinner and practically bounced to her feet. "Well, it's a date, then," she told him cheekily while she gathered up her bag; it was high time that she headed off to the dressing rooms. "I'll slip out to join you in the house when I'm done, and then we'll be off when you're done!"
At Marco's chuckle, she beamed yet again and flung her arms around the bartender in an affectionate embrace, granting him a little wave and a, "Thanks for the food," as she rushed out. If she hurried, she might be able to slip past Bruce and avoid a sound talking-to, nevermind the fact that she'd get away with it, anyway. Sometimes, life was good.

Marco had nodded in agreement, smiling at the hug before she went on her way. It was about time he finished sitting around as well, he mused, and looking into his little box, he realised he'd just about eaten all his noodles anyway. Tossing the box into the trash, he fetched some gum from his pocket - nobody liked a bartender who had Chinese food on their breath, he supposed - and started chewing on a piece, before checking his shirt in the small, somewhat grimy mirror against the wall.
Satisfied with that, he tossed the other empty containers in the trash, and headed out to start his shift.

David wasn't the only employee at The Onyx who liked to show up early, and as he walked through the staff entrance with his bag slung over one shoulder, jacket worked through the strap to hang down his lower back and occasionally brush lightly against his upper legs, Marco gave one of the bartenders from the earlier shift a smile and a quiet hello. The shifts weren't quite due to change over yet, there was a good twenty minutes before anyone needed to get going, either out the door or behind the bar to see the night through, and as usual Marco intended to take care of a couple of things in the staff room in the back before he officially started. It was habit he'd picked up a couple of years ago, one he'd just managed to settle into, and Marco had seen no need to try and shake it off.
Pushing through the door into the staff room proper, the first thing he caught sight of was his fellow bartender folded over at the table. The scent of coffee was always heavily present in the room, but tonight it seemed just a little thicker. That much caffeine usually said one thing about a person; if Marco had to guess, he would say that David hadn't eaten all day, or at least for a good few hours. The tall Croatian wolf moved away from the swinging door that granted entrance to the staff room and crossed to the wall of lockers, opening his one-handed and swinging his gear off his shoulder to push it inside, closing and securing it again afterwards before moving back towards the table.
The large brown bag he dropped down on the table between himself and David was warm, the scent of cooked food drifting up through the top that rolled open as it was set down. Marco always brought food to work with him, something to tide him over during his shift, and he also always brought enough to fill his stomach. Werewolves had impressive appetites, after all, thanks to their metabolisms. Still, Marco was sure he could spare some of the contents of the bag, especially if it would keep David from dropping down in the middle of their shift.

The staff room held a -- usually -- well-stocked vending machine for sodas and bottles of water, and though they were never quite chilled properly, no doubt because of one faulty wire or loose connection somewhere along the line, that was Marco's next stop. He hadn't brought anything with him because of the machine on offer, how it always had bottled water because so many of his fellow employees preferred the sodas with all the sugar and caffeine they had to offer. Collecting the dispensed bottle from the tray, he returned to the table to take his seat opposite his co-worker, smiling and chuckling quietly at David's words as he unscrewed the cap for the water and took a sip. As usual, it wasn't quite chilled properly, but an hour in the refrigerator would help with that.
"I have a big appetite," he replied, setting the bottle aside. "And I always bring extra, just in case. You never know." If he didn't run into someone like David who clearly needed the sustenance, then it was someone like Billie who was all too happy to help him work his way through a bag of food. "There's plenty in there. Help yourself." He made a light gesture towards the bag and its mysterious, tempting-smelling contents with a simple wave of his hand and a sincere smile. For a human, the food in the bag wasn't really the healthy option, burgers with the inevitable fries and all the salt and fats and any number of other additives and extras that they liked to stuff in, but for a werewolf it was as good as anything, decent fuel for a few hours. Marco just hoped David wasn't picky about what he liked to eat.
