Smiling, she nodded her head. “It’s good.” She had been about to say something else when she heard the crash, and she looked towards the kitchen immediately, blinking. Someone in the kitchen laughed as she heard another curse, and then there were the familiar sounds of clearing up. “Sounds like someone got a little careless.” She looked back to Nick, and laughed lightly.
Pondering his offer, she decided to take it, but make it fair. Taking the fork out of the meatball she had impaled, she proceeded to chop it in half, and reach over, depositing it on his plate, before swapping it with a piece of the chicken. At his gaze, she shrugged. “In the interest of being fair,” she explained with a brief smirk, before trying to chicken. “Ooh, that is good. I can see why you like it.”

Nick speared the meatball half and gave a grin. “What can I say? I know my food and I know it well.” He ate the meatball, glancing around. From what he could see, it looked as if everyone else present was there with romantic intentions. It wasn’t that he had never considered the possibility of finding a mate. It had just never been on the top of his priority list. Besides, living alone meant that he could keep his apartment as messy as he liked.
Swallowing, he nodded towards a table just a few feet away, directly behind Lynnette. Lowering his voice, he said, “The guy at that table is about to propose. I’ve seen enough proposals in places like this to know when they’re coming. If his hands shake any harder, he might end up dropping the ring in his dinner.” He had been witness to that a few times in the past and it was all he could do not to chuckle when it happened. “She’ll say yes.” Losing interest, he returned to his meal.

She looked over her shoulder at the indicated couple, managing to avoid getting her hair in her spaghetti somehow. Looking at the couple Nick talked about, she blinked, and then twisted back to her usual place, even as the man proposed… almost on cue.
Laughing softly, she shook her head. The woman behind her almost squeaked, and agreed to the proposal, and Lyn’s eyes widened a fraction. “Okay,” she said, stifling her amusement as she picked up her fork again, “are you usually so good at reading people?” Twirling some more spaghetti around her fork, she watched him curiously, waiting for his response.

Nick chuckled and shrugged. “I’ve had a lot of practice. When you’ve watched people as long as I have, you learn how to pick up on signals. His hand has been going to that pocket beneath the table ever since we sat down. Probably ever since they got here. When his hand wasn’t in his pocket, he was fiddling with his napkin. He’s barely touched his food and, even though he might look fairly normal to most people, I noticed that he was trying awfully hard to hide his nervousness, which was in his eyes. As for her, it was easy to tell just by watching her and the way she looked at him that she’d tell him yes. It’s just a matter of being able to pick up and read what they aren’t saying out loud.” Nick didn’t find his skills particularly impressive. It was just something he had learned over the years and he had only mentioned the situation because he had thought she might find it amusing.

“Well… you’re just full of surprises, aren’t you, Nick?”
Lyn smiled brightly, and then turned her attention back on her meal. She had been telling the truth; he was full of surprises. Or at least he seemed like it. A good taste in food, pleasant conversation, good sense of humour, and not too shabby at reading people; he was more than decent company, and definitely someone she could see herself spending a fair amount of time with, if opportunity allowed.
“So… where should we go next?” she asked conversationally, using a meatball to mop up some of the sauce from the edge of her plate.

“Ah, well, I like to think I am at any rate.”
He took a bit and thought about what their next destination should be as he chewed. When he finally swallowed, he said, “There’s always The Onyx. It’s the club on our side of town and it’s usually a pretty decent place. All types go there, so you’ve got to be careful not to announce what you are. For the most part it’s fairly neutral ground, where werewolves, vampires and humans all hang out together and relax. If that doesn’t sound any good, then we can go back to the driving around idea I had earlier. Lady’s choice.”

“Hmm. Well, a club does sound tempting, I have to admit,” she told him with a fairly mischievous glint in her eye. “Should help to burn off some energy as well.”
Or drive the wolf up the wall, her mind saw fit to add, but she quickly shut out such negative thoughts, and covered the falter with a smile. Clearing her throat delicately, she got back to her meal. It wasn’t long before the two werewolves had polished off their plates, and the waiter came to clean up the table, offering them dessert menus.
Lyn glanced to Nick. She’d have something if he did, but otherwise, she and her wolf were content to leave it at that.

Nick had nodded at Lyn’s comments about the club and, when the waiter asked about dessert, Nick couldn’t resist. “I think I’ll have piece of pecan pie.” He didn’t need the dessert menu any more than he had needed the dinner one. He knew what he liked and that was what he was going with. He gave a grin to Lynnette. Who was he to turn down the chance at dessert? He knew he could polish off the dessert quickly if she decided that she didn’t want anything.

“Um… do you have cheesecake?” Lyn ventured after Nick had ordered his dessert. The waiter told her they did, and asked her which kind she would like. “Plain, please.” Just because she was a werewolf in the beginning of a full moon cycle, there was no point in cutting out the manners; she usually said please and thank you if it was called for, and unless the situation called for something otherwise, she was normally polite enough.
She stretched in her chair discreetly as the man went off to fetch their desserts. “Huh… how did we manage to just about polish off the wine without my noticing?” she remarked casually, straightening in her seat comfortably. She considered the bottle almost curiously, as if it might confess to emptying itself into their glasses.
Okay, I’m in a weird mood tonight…

“Probably the same way we managed to without me noticing,” Nick commented, looking at the bottle as if it had just betrayed him. After a moment of that, he returned his gaze to Lynnette, shrugged and gave a grin. “We’ll just get something at the club. It’s not like there isn’t a bar there. Okay, I don’t know if they serve wine, but the bartenders know what they’re doing.” He gave his half full wine glass a quarter turn on the table before picking it up and taking a sip. As he set the glass down again, he couldn’t stop himself from glancing up at the moon. Shaking his head slightly, he pulled his gaze away and turned it back to Lynnette. He lowered his voice so as to not be overheard by those around him. “I’ve had things under control for a long time now, but the damn moon still manages to drive me insane.”

"Well, they have more interesting drinks in a club bar, I'm sure," Lyn observed with a light shrug under her red top. "I'm sure I can find something that takes my fancy." During the three nights of the full moon, so long as it had some semblance of a nice taste, she didn't particularly care, either way. She would find something to drink.
She followed his gaze up as it angled towards the moon, and then lowered it again as he spoke to her. Smiling somewhat wanly, she admitted in an equally subdued volume, "I know the feeling. I'm younger, so it still gets under my skin every month... but so long as I have something to distract me, then I'm usually okay."

Nick nodded silently as the waiter returned with their desserts and the bill, which Nick took and glanced at before shifting in his chair in order to pull out his wallet, from which he produced a credit card, handing it over to the waiter, who disappeared with it. Leaving his wallet on the table so that it would be easier to put away the card when it was returned, he picked up his fork and cut into his pie.
Since the waiter had left, Nick said, “I usually end up either pacing the living room floor or going to the club.” He shrugged. “I usually end up getting ahead where work is concerned, so the articles usually can’t be used as a distraction.” Eating the bite of pie, he took a quick glance around. He was slightly surprised that his phone hadn’t rung and interrupted dinner since he was usually out working on a piece about at least one mauling by this time. Still, he wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. He’d much rather spend the night enjoying himself than having to attempt trying to cover up a werewolf attack.

"I love how they're always so 'discreet' with bringing the bill..." Lyn gave low snort and rolled her eyes, as the waiter walked away with Nick's credit card. She offered him a grateful smile, before looking down to her cake. Damn, if that didn't look like some good cheesecake...
"Last full moon, I think I just spent it in the motel I'd been staying at; locked the door, and tried to sleep through it." Making a low noise, she stabbed the end of the cake, and broke off the end of it, popping it into her mouth. "I think I definitely prefer this," she added, after swalllowing the mouthful.

“Well, I’m glad you find this better than locking yourself away,” Nick said with a smile. “It means that I’m either not boring you stupid or you’re just really, really patient about it.” He tilted his head slightly to the right. “That or you’re just taking full advantage of a free night out, which I wouldn’t blame you for in the least.”
He cut off another bite of pie, this one slightly oversized, and studied it for a moment as if seriously contemplating it before eating it. The sound of shattering glass nearby signaled that someone had dropped something again and he was really not curious enough at the moment to turn and see what had ended up broken. So long as it wasn’t a pane of the sunroom’s glass, he really wasn’t all that concerned.

Lyn turned her head at the sound of the shattering glass, finding that her eyes landed on a sheepish waiter who'd tried to carry too many things on one tray. She rolled her eyes, and then turned her attention back to Nick.
"Well, it could be a combination of all three; you never know." Laughing to herself, she shook her head. "Nah... I think it's just a nice change of pace to have company for once." She took another bite of the cheesecake, enjoying the texture and flavour as she contemplated the evening so far.
