Okay, be warned. This is silly. It might even border on stupid. But I heard the song on the radio yesterday, and the visual was waaaaay too much fun not to share. The song is by Toby Keith. Jonathan got the lines about Texas because that's where he's from. The characters which aren't mine have all been borrowed shamelessly without permission, and I doubt very much that any of them are in-character, but that's okay. Right?
The well-known men and women of the LAPD, plus criminal attorney Marion Barnes and sketch artist Flynn Hyatt, are gathered together one evening to unwind and relax with drinks and conversation. Things start getting just a tiny bit silly.
Miles: Hey, you know what we need? We need a theme song.
Everyone looks at him like he's crazy.
Miles: Well, we do!
Chris: I think we have one.
Sarah: We do?
Chris: Well a man come on the 6 o’clock news
Said somebody’s been shot, somebody’s been abused
The others immediately start to get into the act.
Richie: Somebody blew up a building
Somebody stole a car
Somebody got away
Flynn: Somebody didn’t get too far yeah
They didn’t get too far
Jonathan: Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see
Ben: Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
Sarah, Lorna, and Marion: When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
Then we’ll all meet back at the local saloon
All: We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses
Flynn: We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
We’ve got too much corruption, too much crime in the streets
Miles: It’s time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send ’em all to their maker and he’ll settle ’em down
You can bet he’ll set ’em down ’cause
Ben and Lorna: Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
Chris and Sarah: When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
All: We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses
Marion: Once more, all together!
All: Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
They actually do raise all their glasses together this time, and sing the last lines as loudly as possible.
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses
