Color: Brown
Facial Hair
Length: Usually very short; he likes to keep it, but doesn’t like it long
Style: Very short
Eyes
Color: Blue
Oddities: Like all werewolves, Devin’s eyes will flash/flood their lupine color during periods of heightened emotion, pain or when he’s attempting to intimidate or tease.
Personality: To the majority of the populace, Devin is nothing more than another face in the crowd, a polite, energetic young man with a gentle sense of humor and mild temper. He seems perfectly normal to all who don’t know him and that’s how Devin prefers it. He doesn’t want everyone to see who he really is. To see the weaknesses of his personality.
Devin is an extremely unstable individual who has, over the years, learned how to cover it up neatly, as well as how to keep the mask in place for however long he might need to. Beneath the mask, Devin is a storm of emotions, mostly anger and loathing. He’s capable of feeling love- he feels it very deeply for his mate, Kaida- but for anyone else who sees beneath the mask, it’s highly likely that they would never believe that it is an emotion he is capable of feeling.
With a deep fascination for torture and murder, Devin will often go out into the city and find a victim, taking them back to his apartment and securing them in his little torture chamber. These are the people who see beneath the mask to the deeply disturbed individual that Devin truly is. Very little brings Devin happiness like a good torture session and he prides himself in being able to keep a victim alive for days at a time should he do so, taking satisfaction in holding another’s life in his hands and making them beg him for mercy, which is never quick in coming. Mercy is something that Devin doesn’t believe his victims deserve, no matter who they are.
While Kaida is more sexual in her methods, Devin sees no draw in something like that. He has his own wide and varied methods of torture and is almost always coming up with something new to try out, which excites him. The crueler the method, the more endearing they seem to be.
Though he kills without blinking, there is a bit of innocence to Devin. He trusts his mate blindly, believing in everything she says and trusting that she loves him just as much as he does her. Kaida is his world and he would put his life on the line for her without a second’s hesitation. Kaida is the only one that Devin trusts and he adores making her happy in any way that he possibly can. He does, however, get rather jealous when he sees her flirting to draw in her intended victim and will, when he finds that he can’t control it, kill the victim before Kaida has the opportunity to dispatch of them in whatever way she may be planning.
Devin is positively terrified of storms and hates to be alone during one. It doesn’t matter what he’s doing, he’ll drop his current activity and go in search of Kaida for comfort when one comes along so long as she isn’t busy with something at the time. If she’s unavailable for whatever reason, he’ll retreat to his room and curl up beneath the blankets, waiting for the storm to end before he will so much as peek from beneath the covers.
Weaknesses: Like all werewolves, Devin is extremely allergic to silver, the metal being able to burn or even kill him if the exposure is severe enough. He has an extremely warped sense of right and wrong, believing that those he tortures and kills deserve what they get. His right elbow will occasionally give him trouble, a complication from an old injury. He is extremely uncomfortable during storms and is terrified to be alone during one. Devin is extremely unstable mentally, but, save for his homicidal tendencies, he hides this rather well. His greatest weakness, though, is Kaida, who he would die for without any hesitation whatsoever.
Abilities: As with all werewolves, Devin has enhanced senses, strength, speed, healing capabilities, endurance and agility. He is quite adept at torture and knows how to keep a victim alive for days if that’s what he chooses to do, though he typically gets bored before that amount of time can pass. Along with torture, he knows of several different extremely painful ways of killing people and he’s has the ability to take almost any household item and turn it into a torture device. Torture and murder aren’t his only abilities, though. He’s an extremely good cook- he could be a professional if that was what he really wanted to do- and knows how to tweak a recipe just right in order to make it even better than it started out. Devin is extremely good at hiding his instability; so good, in fact, that anyone who doesn’t know him well- at least, until he prepares to kill them- would think that he’s just a normal guy. Due to his age, he has complete control of his wolf and transformation.
Weapons: A Glock, a Desert Eagle and a hunting knife with intricate designs on the blade. He can also make a weapon out of pretty much anything he can get his hands on.
Prized Possessions: Devin doesn’t really care about material things, but his most prized ‘possession’ is his mate/wife, Kaida.
Home(s): A two bedroom apartment on Rayne’s side of the city.
History: Born in 1522 to a French father and Scottish mother- both born werewolves- Devin was the second child for the Bedards. His sister, Eva, had been born twenty-one years prior. Growing up, Devin was perfectly normal for a werewolf. He learned how to fight, he learned about what it meant to be a werewolf, he learned about loyalty and defending his pack; everything was as it should be. Simple and yet productive with the rest of the pack there to help him through his first transformation and to understand what came with being a werewolf.
Like his sister, Devin became a pack fighter and spent a good number of years in his position. He greatly enjoyed being a fighter, knowing that he was making a difference and helping his pack. It made him feel good about himself, something that was extremely rare for him growing up, though there was no real reason for that. He had always been uncertain about himself, but becoming a fighter- and being good at it- gave him a reason to be confident in himself and his abilities.
For over a hundred and fifty years the pack lived peacefully for the most part, the only altercations coming on the very rare occasions when a handful of rogues would try to take the pack’s territory, but those were dealt with swiftly and without any real consequences to the pack, which had been keeping territory in France since before Devin was born. It was only when a band of hunters moved into the area that things took a turn for the worse.
The pack fought as hard as they could against the band of humans, but the hunters were extremely good at what they did, managing to kill a rather large portion of the pack and scattering the rest, Eva and Devin getting separated from the rest of the survivors. Though they were both extremely good fighters, they found themselves surrounded by the hunters one day during an extremely bad storm that managed to keep them from catching the hunters’ scents until it was too late. With weapons made of silver and greater numbers, the humans had no trouble in relocating the two rather young werewolves to their hideout, which was outside of the pack’s territory and therefore never having been of any concern to the wolves.
The humans, having had plenty of experience in trapping and keeping werewolves, locked Devin in a specially made cage, the bars of which were covered in thin sheets of silver, and proceeded in torturing Eva, forcing Devin to watch with the threat that they would keep the wolves alive for decades and torture his sister the entire time if he didn’t.
As the days passed and he was forced to watch as various forms of torture were used on his sister, Devin’s sanity wavered and he began to imagine himself using the torture methods on the hunters. After several days, the humans became bored with torturing Eva and ended her life by stabbing her in the heart with a silver dagger. By then, though, it was too late for Devin. His sanity had fractured and he was nothing more than a shadow of who he had been. That, however, was not enough to make him miss his chance. When the hunters removed him from the cage, he fought against them viciously, unmindful of the silver weapons they wielded. Devin didn’t care if they killed him, but in his madness, he simply had to fight.
He managed to disarm and incapacitate several of the hunters, finally finding himself facing a single individual armed with only a long bladed silver dagger. They both swung out at the same time but due to positioning, the dagger’s blade ended up buried in the flesh on the inside of the wolf’s right elbow; it was in so deep that the blade actually became stuck and Devin was unable to pull it free until he knocked the last hunter unconscious.
Devin locked the hunters in the cage that he had been confined in and spent several days ensuring that he would not suffer from silver poisoning and, while he managed to avoid that, the blade had done a great deal of damage and his elbow would continue giving him trouble.
When he had recovered enough, Devin began to torture the hunters slowly to death one by one, using the same methods that he had seen used on his sister while creating new ones as he went. After a few days, Devin, in his unstable state, began to greatly enjoy torturing others and, when the last of the hunters were dead, went on the move, occasionally capturing and torturing people that he came upon in his travels, always choosing some out of the way place to keep his victims while he experimented on them with new torture methods.
Devin eventually found his way to Russia, namely to the area around St. Petersburg, where he came across another pack. By this time, he was used to being on his own and had gotten control of his wolf and transformation; he was uncertain about joining with another pack, but, after a bit of consideration, he joined the pack, hoping that it would help him regain at least a bit of his sanity. While he knew that he no longer had his hold on sanity, he hid it well, coming across as nothing more than a somewhat confident- though not overconfident- wolf with good manners and a mild temper.
Almost immediately after being accepted into the pack, Devin met the beautiful Kaida Derevko. He, like many of the males, found himself drawn to her. She was exceedingly beautiful, yes, and that drew him, but it was her personality and way of handling herself that drew him more. He found a sort of kindred spirit in Kaida and she was the first person that he opened up to, sharing his sister’s death and his relatively new fascination with torture and murder. He had been certain that she would turn away from him due to his instability, but she didn’t and he clung to that.
As the years passed, Devin found himself seemingly getting better. The more time he spent in Kaida’s presence, the less he seemed to think about torture and murder. He was regaining a tentative grip on sanity and he found himself grateful for that, wanting to be strong and what Kaida might need or want. Approximately eleven years after joining the pack, though, he got news that shattered his sanity all over again. Kaida’s mother told him that her daughter had chosen one of the pack’s fighters, Andrian, as her mate; that devastated Devin- she was the only one that he had opened up to about his past and he loved her deeply. He had thought that she returned his love, but the news that she had betrayed him in such a capacity destroyed him.
One night, when several fighters were dispatched to deal with a situation involving rogues getting too close to the pack’s territory, Devin set out to find Kaida, Andrian having gone with the fighters, Devin not having become one with his new pack. Despite the desire to go searching for a rogue to secret away and torture, Devin needed to speak to Kaida and learn the reasons behind her betrayal and, because he had not gotten to see her since she had become Andrian’s mate, he knew that this was his opportunity. He could always slip away and find someone to torture some other night; since he didn’t know when Andrian would be away again, Devin knew an ideal chance when he was faced with it, even through his shattered sanity.
When he found her, secluded away from the rest of the pack, he asked for an explanation, the hurt he had been feeling clear. He didn’t understand why Kaida had betrayed him when he had but when he learned that she thought that he had betrayed her- she had been told that there had been a fight for her and he had declined to participate- his anger flared. They had both been betrayed, yes, but not by each other as they had believed.
It was quickly agreed upon that the pack deserved to suffer for the betrayals and it was soon decided just how they were going to get their revenge. As stealthily as shadows, they moved around the pack’s home, setting up their vengeance. When they were clear, they set their plan into motion, setting the pack’s home- as well as those still within- on fire. With that done, they hid nearby, lying in wait.
It didn’t take long for the fighters who had left to come running back, and, when they did, they ran straight to their own deaths. Angered over the betrayal they had suffered, Devin and Kaida fought brutally, succeeding in killing all but Andrian, who they had other plans for. They incapacitated him and took him away from the burned out area. When they arrived at their destination, Devin sat back and simply watched as Kaida inflicted Andrian with silver poisoning. Though it was more fun to actually be one of the torturers, he felt that she had more rights to the torture of Andrian.
As soon as they were free of the pack, Kaida took Devin’s last name in an attempt to put some distance between her and her past, much to his surprise and pleasure. They began to travel, never staying in one place long, leaving bodies behind them, robbing those they killed in order to survive. Along the way, they became mates, and eventually found their way to LA, where they’ve settled for the time being.
