Tony had opened his door and was out of the car almost before it had stopped moving. He could never understand the appeal of fast cars or indeed any type of car at all. But then he supposed most people didn’t have such a strong case of claustrophobia. It was strange how some places would trigger an attack and yet others with a similar size wouldn’t. The whole thing depended on the personal circumstances of the moment.
“Will do. The traffic monster made us late.” He closed the door behind him and leaned against the car, waiting patiently for Mike to finish doing everything that needed to be done inside. “Wonder what’s been going on last night,” Tony said, partly to his partner and partly to himself. He couldn’t help but wonder what Roxie had been doing last night, feeling slightly embarrassed as he did.

Mike gave a nod at the traffic monster comment and hit the button to roll up the windows once Tony was out, turning off the engine afterwards and getting out, shutting the door and locking up the car. “I guess we’ll find out.” He couldn’t help the little smirk he got because he could practically read Tony’s thought about Roxie on his best friend’s face.
As the only other person who knew about Tony’s secret crush on one Roxanne McHenry, Mike saw it as his sacred duty to tease the other man about it, but only when there was absolutely no chance that anyone would be able to overhear. Mike wasn’t a big enough jerk to go telling everyone about something like that and there was no way he was going to make any sort of comment about it anywhere near the station. The smirk, however, said it all and there was no doubt in his mind that Tony would get the meaning behind it.

“Shut up,” Tony muttered, even though Mike hadn’t actually said anything. He had thought it and smirked it and that was more than enough. He stuffed his hands in his pocket and reslotly avoided looking at Mike’s face, not wanting to see the smirk any longer. If he saw the smirk then he would start thinking in even greater detail about Roxie – and since there was a chance he might run into her depending on what her case load had been like during the night, he needed to have as clear a head as possible.
The last thing Tony wanted to do was embarrass himself in front of her again. The last time he had done something stupid in front of her had been almost drowning on a sip of water right at the end of a shift and then walking into a wall, Mike helping him cover as best he could.
Tony had spent the next few hours hiding in the M.E.’s office after that little stunt.

As they moved towards his car, Mike pulled out his keys, unlocking the doors as they approached and pulling open his door as soon as he reached it, slidding in and starting up the engine, once again hitting the button to roll down all of the windows. If he got a complaint about the wind messing up someone’s hair, he would just say that he preferred driving with the windows down rather than using the air conditioning. It wasn’t particularly true, but who knew that other than him and Tony.
“I’ll leave it to you three to decide who gets to ride shotgun, but know that whoever does is going to have to keep their hands away from the window roll button. They’re staying down.”

Roxanne gave a laugh. "Bah, partner gets automatic shotgun, though, doesn't he?" She gave Tony a wink. "Besides, I don't think he'll have a problem with the window being down."
Not that Roxie cared. She wasn't much of a girly-girl when it came to her appearance; if she showed up at the hospital looking a little windblown, it wasn't the end of the world. As a CSI, she had dealt with far worse things than a bit of mussed hair. Like being covered in decomp. Never fun.

She beamed and bounced as they walked. It was taking most of her energy just to keep up the cheerful and happy go lucky persona that she normally held, more energy than it normally would. The shock of realising that something could be seriously wrong with her coffee monkey had sent her mentally reeling for all that she pretended everything was fine. Blu just hoped the current crisis would distract Miles from any slip ups she might make.
Blu loved riding on motorcycles because they allowed the wind to blow in her face and it made her happy. Many of the simpler things in life made her happy. “I hope you brought a special helmet. I don’t want to ruin my hairdo after all.” Blu sniffed and flung her head back, lifting a hand to pet at her black hair in mock seriousness.

The four stepped out into the sunshine of Los Angeles, and Tasha pulled in a deep lungful of the air, letting it fill her and swell in her chest. It felt good; refreshing, a sharp, rejuvenating contrast to the recycled, circulated air from the basement, in the morgue. She glanced across at Tony first, seeing whether or not he had calmed down from his near-attack in the break room.
He looked better. Tasha was glad. They walked towards Mike’s car, and she smiled at Roxie as they stopped alongside the vehicle while the taller CSI in the group worked on unlocking the car itself.

He certainly felt a lot better now they were out in the open. It sometimes made him wonder, the fact he would willingly work in closed surroundings for extended periods of time, with little or no windows to look out and yet he did. His love for his job was stronger than his fear, he supposed. Either way, the panic and unpleasant feelings were fading away and he was grateful for that.
Tony glanced round at the small group, just missing Tasha’s look in his direction. Nobody seemed about to claim the front seat and so he shrugged, a faint and yet warm smile on his face. “Look’s like you’re stuck sitting next to me again Mike.”

“Darn,” Mike said, gently teasing. “I was looking forward to having someone pretty next to me.” He gave a dramatic sigh. “There go my hopes and dreams for the drive to the hospital.” He shifted in the seat and shut his door, leaning over to grin at everyone through the passenger window. “Ah, well. I’ll live so long as no one messes up my car.”
He had teased as he had in an attempt to help aid in chasing away the panic that had clearly started to overtake Tony in the break room and, as much as they teased each other, he knew that his partner wouldn’t take it the wrong way. It was just how Mike was and Tony knew that.

Tasha’s laugh was light and easy, a pleasant contrast to the awkward, almost forced sounds from down in the basement, when her concern for the Riveras had been plaguing her and weighing her down more clearly. Before climbing into the car, she had taken the time to dig through her bag to find her sunglasses, which she took from the case and set on her head, pushing back the lengths of dark hair as she did so.
“So when was the ceremony?” she asked Mike with a light tease in her tone. At his silent pause, she continued, climbing into the car, “For you and your car; the wedding. I’m just sorry I missed it. Did someone get pictures?” It wasn’t often that she joked with Tony’s partner in such a manner, but it was all for a good cause; she wanted to do her part to lift the spirits, and really, Mike had just set himself up.

Under his breath Tony muttered something about how he was perfectly pretty thank you very much and if Mike didn’t notice then it was completely his loss. It was light hearted and not really intended to be heard by anyone – just a general muttering and grumbling although he wouldn’t really be surprised if they all heard him; in their line of work they were trained to listen for the smallest and softest of sounds.
He shook his head in amusement as Tasha gently teased Mike, sliding into the car himself. Really, he didn’t think she was that far from the truth – and he kept meaning to photoshop some photos, for the next time the two partners descended into childish and harmless pranks.

In response to Tasha’s words and a completely serious tone- he was hard pressed not to smirk at Tony’s grumblings- Mike settled himself properly in his seat again, resting his cheek lightly against the steering wheel and petting the dashboard gently. “Hush, baby. Everyone loves you. You’re a good car and the only woman who I know that I’ll never leave.”
He pet the dashboard for a moment more before saying, still sounding serious but very obviously joking, “We haven’t set a date yet. Our commitment to each other is stronger than that of any married couple.”

Giving a light, feminine snort, she looked to Rosie, who was smiling in amusement, and shook her head. “You’re a weird one, Michael Carrigan. But maybe that’s why the car loves you.” After a pause, she found herself asking, “So the car’s name is… what exactly?” After all, he wouldn’t have been the first man to name his car; Tasha knew plenty of people who did that.
“I figure if we’re going to spend time together, we ought to be formally introduced.” It was becoming difficult to speak without a quaver of mirth in her voice, but so far, she was managing. Just.

Tony sunk lower into the seat, closing his eyes briefly against the teasing banter, as though physically pained by it although personally he was delighted Tasha and Mike were interacting. He was just happy the mood was light and if he helped keep it up by subtly egging on his best friends then Tony was more than happy to play the part.
“I wonder if it’s too late to get a new partner?” he mused out loud, glancing up to catch Roxie’s and Tasha's eyes. “Since it appears I’m about to lose Mike to his car. Before I know it, he’s going to be trying to convince people it can be a CSI too so he can spend every moment with her.”

Roxie laughed out loud, unable to hold it in any longer. She caught Tony's eyes in the rear-view mirror and grinned. "Awww, don't worry, Tony," she soothed playfully. "If worse comes to worse, I bet you could join in with Pete and me. Betcha Chief wouldn't mind -- three heads are better than two."
Thought it was all in good fun, Roxanne was pretty sure that she wouldn't mind working with the bespectacled CSI. He was sweet, if a little introverted, but he was damn good at his job.
