After the timeskip
Nick moved expertly around his kitchen, cleaning up the slight mess he had made and checking on the progress of the food. It was rare that he actually cooked- he considered it a waste to cook just for himself despite having a giant appetite on the typical night and knowing that leftovers could be a guy's best friend- but he had invited Lyn over for dinner during breakfast and that gave him the perfect excuse to put his cooking skills to use. He had been unable to keep dinner a surprise since she had gone with him to stock up on groceries, but he figured that was just as well. She would be prepared for his enchiladas and Spanish rice when she arrived.
The stereo in the living room was playing softly as Nick checked on the rice's progress before wiping down the counter with a damp rag. The scents blended together and his stomach rumbled impatiently. I know, I know, but it's not even ready yet. The fact that the full moon was at its peak seemed to multiply his appetite ten-fold and that was really saying something all things considered.
"Enchiladas, rice, homemade salsa, tortilla chips, beer, soda... I think everything is covered." He gave a satisfied nod and a slight grin as he moved to the cabinets to pull out plates and the chips.

Lynnette remembered asking, curiously, what Nick had planned on making for dinner. Her stomach had growled eagerly just at the sound of it. She was a fan of spicy foods from time to time, and she hadn’t had anything of the sort in a while, so the sound of what he had in mind whet her appetite immediately. The fact that she’d had to wait all day to even smell it had driven her wolf up the wall and down again, filled to the brim with impatience.
Whadda ya’ want me to do? Knock the door down and go trampling in to the stove? Jeez. Rolling her eyes, and smiling at the realisation that she was — yet again — arguing with her own wolf, she knocked on the door, trying not to think about how delicious the mixture of smells was.

Nick headed for the door and pulled it open with grin of greeting. Over the smells of dinner, he almost hadn't picked up Lyn's scent. Almost. "Hey, great timing. Everything is just about ready." His eyes sparkled teasingly as he moved aside and motioned her into his apartment. "Hope you're hungry. I made enough to give a normal person leftovers for about a week. Even made the salsa myself, so I can't say for certain how hot it's actually going to be."

“Then you have excellent timing too, because I think my stomach’s about to eat itself.” And that wasn’t a pretty notion at all. She smiled brightly at the sound of homemade salsa. “One day, you’re gonna run out of ways to impress me, and then what’re you gonna do?” She laughed to herself, shaking her head slightly.
“It smells fantastic, by the way.” She’d meant to say that initially, but his greeting had distracted her. The scents had only intensified with the opening of the door, as well, leaving her mouth watering even more intensely than before. Good thing it was almost ready.

"Well, we can't have your stomach eating itself," Nick said. "I don't think I want to deal with the after effects." He was joking lightly. "Well, I think today is that day. As far as I know, I don't have any other impressive talents to show off to you. I guess I'll just have to hoping that my cooking and sparkling personality are enough."
He gave a quick glance to the clock. "Thanks. Let's just hope it tastes that good. It's time for the enchiladas to come out of the oven." With that, he headed for the kitchen asking, "You want something to drink? You're welcome to help yourself or I'll bring it to you. Whatever's best."

“I’m sure that’ll be more than enough, Nick,” she reassured him with a laugh to herself, smiling happily. The more time she spent around the older wolf, the more she became deeply fond of him. He was honestly the closest thing she’d had to a ‘best friend’ since she’d left her ‘pack’… since Riley. But the less she thought about the past, the better; that was all behind her, and it was high time for her to focus on the present.
“Drink?” Lyn thought about it. “Um, dumb question maybe, but what do you have?” Her smile was calm and comfortable. “Easier to decide if I know my choices, after all.”

"I hope so," Nick said honestly from the kitchen, grabbing a thick dish towel before opening the oven door, the smell of melted cheese, cooked meat and sauce becoming even stronger as he did, "'cause I'd hate to lose the best company I've had in years just because I don't have any more surprising talents."
Using the towel, he removed the pan, which would have been extremely heavy to anyone without the perks of a werewolf, and put it on the stovetop, closing the oven door and turning it off.
"Not a dumb question, but it makes things a lot less fun." He busied himself putting the Spanish rice into a large bowl. "Let's see... Beer, of course. Root beer. Coke. Bottled water... Oh, and Mountain Dew, which I don't even know why I picked up since I can't stand the stuff. Must be the moon making me do crazy crap."

Gah, okay… calm down. You can wait five minutes for food, surely! Her stomach’s almost murderous growl as Nick opened the oven door had made Lyn thankful she hadn’t followed him into the kitchen, instead hovering in the lounge, not far from the doorway. When he called her ‘the best company he’d had in years’, she actually couldn’t help but blush, smiling a tad meekly and not sure what to say. Finally, she thought of something, “Well, don’t worry about a thing. You’re stuck with me now.”
As he listed off the choices of drink, she nodded thoughtfully. “Then I guess I’ll take a beer. Seems to fit the tone, kinda.” She smiled lightly. Lyn watched him dealing with the food, and stepped into the kitchen. “I’ll get them, while you handle that. Want me to grab you something too?”

Nick gave a grin when she said that he was stuck with her. "Wouldn't have it any other way, Lyn. I can definitely think of worse things than being stuck with you."
As he finished transferring the rice into the bowl- or at least, as much as would fit- he said in response to her question about him wanting something to drink, "Please and thank you. A beer would be excellent."
With the bowl in hand he draped the towel over his arm and headed for the dining table. Putting the bowl down, he spread the towel out next to it and headed back for the kitchen. He did, after all, need to transfer plates, the enchiladas, eating utensils, the tortilla chips and his homemade salsa to the table as well.

Again, Lyn smiled. Jeez, stop being such a dork. He’s telling you you’re his friend, and that he doesn’t want to run for the hills. There’s nothing so unusual about that.
Giving her head a little shake, she glanced back at him. “Two beers comin’ up.” Fetching them out of the refrigerator, she followed him out of the kitchen and towards the table. She thought about setting the bottles down, but didn’t want to interfere in any setup he hadn’t yet had a chance to put into place. For now, she would hold onto them, and just bide her time.
Okay… I need to take this guy grocery shopping more often, she found herself thinking playfully, and then smiled sheepishly to herself for the notion. Or I could shut up.

Grabbing two towels this time, he took the pan of enchiladas in both hands and headed out of the kitchen again. "Enchilada coming through. Anyone in the way will be treated to a pretty sight. At least, if I do say so myself." He moved to the table and put the pan down atop the towel he had put down.
Glancing to Lyn, he gave a grin. "You can put those down wherever. If they get in the way, I'll drain 'em both and toss the bottles." He was, of course, joking.
With the towels in hand as he headed for the kitchen again, he said. "Be right back with the rest of the stuff. Then we can sit down and have some food."

She moved out of the way immediately, not wanting to obstruct Nick in any way. She smiled at the sight — and smell — of the food, and laughed at his joke about the beers. “Well, in that case, I hope you have more, because now I’m craving one.” Setting them on the table, she watched him head back into the kitchen, wondering if she should offer to help.
And then she reminded herself that Nick would essentially say ‘thanks but no thanks’. Maybe it would be worth offering anyway. Then again, at this rate, by the time she actually asked if she could help, he’d be finished…

"I think I've got enough to last us a couple of minutes anyway," Nick joked, gathering plates, silverware, paper napkins, the tortilla chips and the salsa he had made. He balanced everything carefully and took it to the table, depositing it gently. Opening the bag of chips, he put it on the table, putting the large bowl of salsa next to it, along with a spoon in case either of them decided they wanted salsa on their enchiladas. He looked over everything. "Can you think of anything else we need before we get started?"

Obviously Nick’s silverware wasn’t silver, but it still amused Lyn anyway, to run the word through her mind, when it was perfectly safe for her to hold, for example, a fork. Of course, few people could appreciate the joke, but that wasn’t the point; what mattered was that she could laugh at little things like that.
She regarded the spread. “Y’know, I think you’ve got everything covered.” She smiled happily at him, nodding her head. “Very impressive.” Her wolf was running hungry circles inside her, giddy with anticipation of a good meal… and a home-cooked one, no less. “It looks great.”

“I always like to impress. I’m ready to dig in.” He picked up a plate and the pancake turner he had put on the table earlier in the day. He had found out that those things were really handy with handling enchiladas; he had learned that in… he couldn’t even remember, but he knew they worked and that was what mattered. “How many of these do you want to start with?”
