Chris paused, cocking his head. “Well, I was gonna say give you a shove, but tickling works too.” He grinned down at her, but didn’t move his hands. She hadn’t really warranted a tickling attack, so he didn’t really feel it was necessary to expend the energy it would have taken. Besides, she would have retaliated… and with her positioning, she would have a better chance of pinning him.
“Besides, she wasn’t just using feminine intuition… I’d say she was cheating, but… yeah, she couldn’t help it.”

"No, she really couldn't. On the one hand, I could see where that ability of hers could drive someone up the wall, but on the other, it'd be really useful in our line of work," Sarah mused thoughtfully. "Not to mention with men." She laughed. "I could just see what was going on inside their heads when they ask me out, and find out which ones have dishonorable intentions and let you have your fun."

Again, he looked down at her, one brow quirked. “You wouldn’t wanna get in a guy’s head when they’re asking someone on a date. Trust me on that, if nothing else.” He chuckled, shaking his head a little for emphasis, even as he smirked. “It’s a scary place, the mind of a man.”
He realised he’d finished yet another can of Mountain Dew, which probably meant he’d had more than his daily allowance of caffeine, but then, he knew there was something in the soda that made it addictive. He knew that, and yet, did nothing to fight it.

"Shepherd-my-love, I've been around you long enough to know that for certain." Sarah was generally pretty free with the pet names where Chris was concerned, although she'd been known to apply the more generic ones to others from time to time as well. "But it really would be rather handy to know up front who's actually interested in me and who's just looking for a slumber party." She grimaced lightly. In truth, Sarah's instincts on such a thing were usually fairly on-target, which was why she had a standing rule about never giving her number to anyone she met in the dance club.

“You mean we’re not obvious about that kinda thing?”
He blinked, and stopped. “Okay, let’s pretend I never, ever said that. Because I don’t do that kind of thing.” He cleared his throat, feeling rather ridiculous, and tried to find something else interesting to talk about. “Oh, hey, look, the DVD’s done. Uh… can you grab the remote? If I don’t turn it off, it’ll start playing again.”
Oh, smooth. Way to be nonchalant. Jeez.

Sarah sat up and grabbed the remote from the table, tossing it to him lightly. For some reason -- and she preferred not to try to contemplate what it might be -- she was deeply disturbed by the idea of Chris behaving in such a fashion. "You'd better not do that. If I ever found out you went trolling for sleepovers, I'd kick your ass. You're pretty much the only defense I have to offer when my girlfriends complain that there's no such thing as a gentleman anymore. Not that you're entirely gentlemanly, but you're close enough."

Shaking his head firmly, he looked at her. “No way. It just… came out wrong.” He pulled a face. “And I’m glad to hear I’m setting some kind of good example… I think.” He offered an uncertain smile, and shrugged. “Just… pretend I never said anything.”
Pressing ‘stop’ on the remote, he got up to take the disc out of the player, asking as he was putting it back in the case, “Now what?” He glanced back in her direction before moving to the DVD rack to replace the movie they had just watched.

"Well, first, I'm going to put the pot roast into those individual containers like I promised," she replied, standing and picking up the empty cans to put in the recycling bin. "After that? No idea. You have any suggestions?"

“Uh…” Chris grinned. “I was hoping you had something.” He shrugged. “That’s why I asked.” Of course, that part was obvious, but Chris did have the tendency to state the obvious from time to time, as Sarah knew better than anyone. He’d asked her to warn him about it many times in the past, but it had never worked.
He glanced at the DVDs. “Anything else you wanna watch? The day is still young… kinda.”

"Not really," Sarah admitted as she walked into the kitchen. Grinning to herself, she called, "We could always go down to the Onyx, if you're really bored. Or, you know, just go get ice cream."

He smirked. “Onyx? At this time of day? They’d think we had nothing better to do with our time, or we were… well, y’know.” Clearing his throat quickly to move the topic along, he said, “But I could go for ice cream.” Not that he’d ever really said no to ice cream. It was a weakness, he knew.
“Okay, you deal with the pot roast, and I’ll… turn off the TV?” He’d meant to come up with a better ‘to-do’ than that, but had come up blank. Reaching behind him, he switched off the TV, and then grinned sheepishly.

"You work so damn hard, you know that?" she retorted, spooning the dinner leftovers into the bowls and stashing them in the freezer.
Ice cream, like Mountain Dew, was a mutual weakness for both sergeants, so Sarah had been pretty certain he would agree. "Tell you what, I'll even treat for the ice cream, since you technically paid for both my lunch and my dinner." She put the last of the roast in the freezer and shut the door, returning to the living room. "Anyplace particular you want to go?"

He paused. “Hey…” he began, as if realising something himself for the very first time, after her prompting, “you’re right; I did pay for both. Sneaky…” Chris narrowed his eyes in a scowl, even though she couldn’t see him, and then shrugged it off. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t done the same for him in the past, and it wasn’t as if he wouldn’t do it again.
“I’m impartial,” he told her, thinking it over. There were a few good places for ice cream… well, more than a few, given it was Los Angeles; they had their fair share of prime locations.

"I think I want chocolate marshmallow," Sarah decided. "What about that place around the corner -- Bailey's? We haven't been there in a while."
"Sounds like a plan," he confirmed with a definite nod of his head.
"Okay. Just give me a few minutes to be all girly, and we'll head out." She went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror; the French braid was still intact, but as the day wore on, more and more wisps of hair worked their way free. She undid the braid entirely, finger-combed the curls loose, and left them there. Satisfied that there were no bits of meat or carrot stuck in her teeth, she rejoined Chris in the living room. "Okay, all set."

Waiting for Sarah to join him, he smiled and nodded his head. “All right then. Let’s get out of here.” Making sure he hadn’t left anything important behind, such as his keys or cell phone, he opened the apartment door for Sarah to head out first, joining her in the hall when he was done, and ensuring nobody could get in behind him… he’d accidentally left the apartment unlocked only once before, and luckily for him, nobody had given in to temptation.
Unless they stole something I really took no notice of in the first place. Shrugging it off, he headed with Sarah to the elevator, so they could head out.
Continued at: Restaurants etc; Baileys with Sarah.
