She had felt too lazy and full after her ‘outing’ to the club the previous night to return to her apartment in the other mutt pack’s territory. Luckily, she had had her keys with her, and after taking her fill from the man she had seduced, she had cut her losses, and wandered the streets, enjoying the high that came with blood laced with alcohol and desire. She had felt eyes of men and women on her, and she had very much enjoyed herself.
But now, the sun was up. The windows were covered, and the apartment was comfortably dark.
And Marissa Auburn was bored.
But at least she wasn’t hungry…

Ennui had never sat well with Marissa Auburn, even before she had been turned into a vampire. Sometimes, she really did miss the daytime, when she used to be able to wander in the light of the sun, letting people admire her elegance and red hair; they would never be allowed to touch, but being pursued even in that simple sense had been pleasant. It didn’t happen nearly enough, which was just plain disappointing, and more than a little insulting. Clearly humans had lowered themselves a peg if they couldn’t appreciate a fine specimen of womanhood when they saw one.
Laying back on her comfortable bed, toying with one of her daggers, the tip turning against one index finger, she sighed, despite not needing to breathe. True, vampires didn’t really ‘sleep’ so much as become literally exanimate for a period of time, but they still needed to feel physically exhausted and mentally drained in order to achieve that state.
Irritably, Marissa was neither.

It was still getting dark outside, and though she could comfortably draw back her drapes and watch the night settle in, she personally preferred to head out into the city when the veil had truly fallen. Her green eyes watched the city, the electric thrum of life and activity, from the window of her apartment on the smaller pack’s side of Los Angeles, and a grim smile touched her red lips. Her outfit, the usual dark shades in delightful contrast to her vivid hair, was suitable for a night ‘on the town’, the sort of attire that would tease males and females alike, catching their attention and tempting them to venture closer.
If the poor fools couldn’t figure out for themselves that she was deadly, then they deserved to be put out of their misery, in her mind. As she touched one pale, cool hand to the glass barrier between her and the world beyond, she allowed her mind to run, already picturing the delicious treats she might encounter when she finally left her apartment; all manner of naïve, lost souls that could be so easily drawn into the web and tangled.
Marissa couldn’t help the throaty laugh that spilled free. Her appetites were swelling. She might have been a vampire, but she was a woman too; she had other needs. Perhaps, if she was lucky, she could sate both hungers tonight.

She had waited more than long enough now. The last of the sun’s harmful rays were completely swallowed from sight by now, and for some time, she had just stood and watched the world tumble past below her apartment window just for the small entertainment factor it provided. But now her appetite was building beyond manageable levels, and it was nothing short of foolish to stay inside and ‘stew’. It was time for her to get herself out into the big, bad world, and have herself some fun.
Turning from the window, pale hand stroking almost gently over the glass before dropping away completely, she collected what she would need; she secured one of her more discreet blades where it wouldn’t be seen, where it could be overlooked if somewhere were to sweep a searching hand over her body, a trick she had learned some time ago, through one means or another.
There was little else she needed; keys, some money, and beyond that, nothing. Giving her apartment a once-over, satisfied with what she saw, she nodded once, and then stepped out of the door and closed it almost too quietly behind her.
