Continued from: Apartment Complex; Parking Garage with Lynnette
Nick pulled out behind the SUV and headed away from the center of the city, trying to think if he had seen any places since being in LA that would work as a good running area. He couldn’t think of any, but there was likely to be at least one, wasn’t there?
“I have… no idea as to where I’m going,” Nick admitted with a little chuckle. “Away from the heart of the city, sure, but after that? No clue.”

When Lynnette had first arrived in the city, it had been by bus, so she hadn’t really seen much out of the windows in desperate need of a good cleaning; with her enhanced senses, she’d seen and smelt things on that bus that she never really wanted to get close to, so much of her journey had been spent with her nose in a dog-eared, beaten book she’d picked up cheap at the bus station before starting off, in the hopes of keeping herself distracted.
“Well, let’s just drive until we find something promising,” she suggested with an easy smile, settled into her seat comfortable. “It’s not like we’d get lost,” she added as a quip, turning her brown eyes in his direction, apparently amused by the notion of two werewolves having to stop and ask for directions.

“If we’re just going to be driving, then I definitely need to stop and fill the tank. Oh, and if we did get lost, we’d just keep driving around until we managed to figure out where we were again. Not that I have a problem with asking directions. I’ve done that before, even if I’ll deny it to anyone else. I just think being lost with you for a while could be… fun.” He shot her a glance and a little grin. “I think I’m going to stop talking now. I’m sorry if that didn’t sound quite right.”
Returning his eyes to the road, Nick found himself wondering just what had possessed him to say that. It had been completely uncalled for and he couldn’t figure out why the thought had come to him in the first place. Well, actually, he could. He thought it could be fun to be lost with Lynnette; she was the first person in centuries that he had allowed himself to become attached to and he couldn’t really understand why that was. It was just so strange when he thought about it…

Lynnette couldn’t help but laugh, but like all the other times that night, it was a light sound not intended to mock, but to just show her soft amusement at Nick’s behaviour in one way or another, smiling all the while. “It’s okay. It sounded fine.” She nodded to emphasise. “And it made perfect sense. But I think we could find our way back… I have faith in our tracking abilities.” It was her turn to blink. “Okay, now that sounded weird.”
Clearing her throat, she looked to the street out of her window, making a mental note to think everything through before she even so much as opened her mouth. Settling back into her chair a little, she found herself pulling her phone from her pocket, and toying with it idly. It was a folding model, rather small, but not one of those ridiculously tiny things that seemed easy to lose, and she watched her hands flick it up and open, letting the light from its illuminated screen play over her face.

“I don’t think it sounded weird,” Nick offered, seeing the light from the corner of his eye and glancing over briefly to see what it was. Once he spotted the cell phone, he returned his eyes to the road, curiosity satisfied. He was still attempting to get over his rather obvious attempt at flirting- he couldn’t for the life of him figure out why he had actually done that.
Just tone it down, he told himself. I haven’t know her that long and the last thing I want to do is scare her off.

Looking up from her cell phone display, she smiled at him, and laughed softly to herself. “Well, in any case, we have a right to sound weird. We’re not human, so…” She told herself not to finish that sentence, wondering when she had stopped making any sense, frowning on the inside. Was she trying to flirt? Because if she was, she was failing dismally, even by her standards.
“Is it just me,” she began randomly, in the hopes of getting off the awkward topic, “or is this traffic crawling worse than normal?”
Oh, nice subject… the traffic, seriously? Jeez, might as well comment on the weather while you’re at it…

Traffic. Safe subject. Don’t really know if I should be disappointed or grateful, but we can go with that. “Seems like it is,” Nick told her, “but I guess that could always just be us. Of course, for me, the traffic always seems to be going at a crawl. I’m just impatient that way.” He gave a little shrug and pulled forward a bit when he had the opportunity. “You’re welcome to switch through the radio stations and see if you can find something that you like. Just about anything is fine with me.” He shot her a little grin. “That or I can put the top back, roll down the windows and we can sing some random song at the top of our lungs and see how many people look at us like we’ve completely lost our minds.”

“Hmm, that’s true.” Lyn tossed a smile Nick’s way, angling her head so that her hair tumbled back away from her shoulder a little. “For near-immortal beings, we’re awfully impatient, huh?” Her smile became a fleeting grin, and she looked down at her phone, closing it with a light snap and tossing it gently from hand to hand, before taking his offer and leaning slightly to fiddle with the radio.
With a laugh, she addressed his ‘idea’, “While I’m sure you have a positively angelic singing voice, I don’t think they’d appreciate the proverbial howling at the moon.” Her eyes flashed mischievously. “Now there’s an idea that could turn some heads.” She was, of course, teasing, but it was an entertaining idea all the same.

Nick’s eyes flashed mischievously in return as he raised an eyebrow. “I’ll do that too.” He tilted his head slightly, watching her now that the traffic had come to a stand-still. “Dare me to?”
Nick had always been a sucker for a dare; it had been a weakness of his for as long as he could remember and he didn’t particularly care what others thought of him. Certainly, he had a reputation to uphold, but howling playfully at the moon wasn’t insane enough- to him, anyway- to make him think twice about it.

For a while, the blonde female stared at him curiously from where she sat, radio and cell phone forgotten, the traffic around them sitting, ignored, still in the streets, shuffling every few minutes as spaces opened up. Her mind was no longer focused on the possibility of whether or not there had been an accident somewhere down the main streets, but now solely on what her companion had just said to her.
Her eyes narrowed, a smile turning up her lips. “Okay…” she ventured to say, nodding her head a little. “I do dare you to.” Hell, she would pay to see this, and it would make this wait in traffic a lot easier to bear. She didn’t even particularly care that it had the potential to be highly embarrassing; right at that moment, she wanted to see if he really would do it… even though, deep down inside, she already knew he would.

Nick gave a grin. “You got it, pretty lady.” Pushing the button that rolled the windows down, he waited until that was done before putting the top back, opening the car up to the night air. “How ‘bout I do you one better?” Gazing around in order to make sure the traffic wasn’t likely to move while he was acting like a nutcase, he took off his seatbelt once he was sure that they would be staying still for a few minutes. Standing up the best he could considering that he was behind the wheel, he threw his head back and gave a long, loud howl. He didn’t care if anyone was looking at him. He never would have asked Lynnette if she dared him if he had. Not only did the howl give a little of his energy an outlet, it seemed to make the wolf happy for the time being. Never mind that it felt great.

Oh. My. God.
Lynnette’s smile became nothing short of a shocked grin, and she dropped her mouth open to laugh loudly, especially when a kid no older than ten in an SUV alongside them sat, gaping, in his seat, eyes wide and jaw dropped. He looked from the howling form of Nick, to Lynnette, and the she-wolf caught sight of the mother in the driving seat staring at them both as if the behaviour was shocking and ‘dreadfully out of place’.
Lyn gave a sleek little shrug, as if to say ‘men; what can you do?’, and then had to avert her gaze before she burst out laughing for the soccer mom to see. She looked up at Nick again, feeling her own wolf wriggle, as if eagerly pleading to join in.

Letting the howl fade, Nick dropped back into his seat and buckled up again, tilting his head to look at Lynnette. “Guess that’ll teach you to dare me to do something like that again, huh? Well, that or you’ll keep this in mind and start daring me to do stuff like that more often. Either way, it’s good.”
He had noted her laughter as he had howled and both he and the wolf had enjoyed that sound. Knowing that he was the reason that Lyn had been laughing was more than enough to make feel a sudden surge of pride. He liked making her laugh, even if it involved having a bunch of people stare at him as if he had lost his mind. He had always enjoyed the spotlight, and, while being there had always felt good, even when he was acting like a lunatic, Nick was surprised to realize how much better it felt to have Lynnette’s attention. To hell with everyone else. She was the one that really mattered now.

Her laughter was still trailing off as Nick dropped down into his seat again, and she shook her head good-naturedly about the howl. “Well, I think it’s safe to say I’ll remember that. I don’t think I could forget it if I wanted to.” She leaned over the partition in the car to say to him, “But I think you gave Soccer Mom over here a shock.” Lyn smiled, sitting back in place, glancing ‘casually’ towards the SUV. It was still alongside them, and the woman was still pretending not to look at that, but the female werewolf knew when she was being watched.
It had felt good to just laugh like that, in all honesty. Nick seemed to be able to trigger that in her so easily, but given that it was so refreshing and obviously had a positive effect on her, she wasn’t about to sit there and question it, no matter the reason behind his ability to do that to her. Being near him made her wolf comfortable and calm, and his company was far favourable to… well, just about anyone else’s. Not that she’d really met or befriended anyone else so far, but that didn’t matter to her. Having one great friend was far more important to her than potentially having several ‘acquaintances’.

“Aww. Poor Soccer Mom.” He glanced to the SUV, giving a wave and a cheeky grin. He knew that she was trying to watch them without seeming to, but since when had something like that stopped him. Yes, he was definitely in a mood and he didn’t think that he could blame the moon. At least, not just the moon. “So long as you don’t want me to howl and… strip or something?” He cocked an eyebrow and gave a teasing grin. “Or do you want that?” It was obvious by his tone that he was joking, but he was curious as to what Lynnette would come up with in response to that.
Giving a stretch, Nick rested his hands atop the steering wheel and glanced around again before checking the gas gauge, hoping that he didn’t end up running out of fuel before they reached a station. He was fairly certain that he had enough to last them long enough to get out of the traffic and find someplace for him to fill the tank, but if not, he’d call up a tow company. Hell, he’d hike to a gas station if that was what it came down to and give Lyn a piggyback ride there if that was what she wanted. The company couldn't be beat in his opinion and the threat of running out of gas while in a traffic snarl didn't annoy him at all, which probably would have surprised him at any other time.
