The song they shared filled her with a kind of thrill she had never felt before, and she let the sound ring out of her throat to the sky for as long as she could hold it, before her breath evaded her, and her lungs commanded her to stop. She pulled her head down again, and began weaving agilely through the trunks of the trees; left, right, right, left — her sharp turns were enforced by long legs that propelled her forward, and subsequently up and over an angled old tree that had fallen many years ago, to lean against its fellows. She rebounded off the top and sailed down again, hitting the ground running.
Briefly, she checked over her shoulder, not wanting to lose Nick. She didn’t doubt his smaller form packed some serious speed; hell, for all she knew, he had overtaken her somehow, and was weaving ahead of her, and she almost chuckled at the thought, feeling a fresh, hot wave of adrenaline as her limbs pumped to carry her through the dark trees.

As soon as Lynnette stopped howling, Nick stopped as well, taking off after her again when she moved. He pushed himself hard enough just to keep her in sight and, though he couldn’t go up and over the fallen tree as Lynnette had, he shot under it, not having to slow his pace to do so. He was having more fun than he could remember having ever had before and the run had only just gotten started. If things kept up this way, he was going to collapse into bed wonderfully exhausted when he got back to his apartment later and would have some good memories to hang onto to boot.

The urge to frolic and play was strong, fuelled partly by the excitement already coursing through her veins, and the instinct to rough-and-tumble with Nick, as wolves would in the company of their own. She slowed her pace to let him catch up a little, until they were running side by side, legs pumping rhythmically and smoothly to carry their lupine forms, so different in size and stature yet so alike in grace and power. They weaved and darted through the trees, and Lynnette caught sight of a stream up ahead.
Eager to feel the cool splash of the water, instead of leaping up and over it, she charged through it, casting sprays of droplets up all around her and to either sides, and she gave another almighty, free howl to the sky.
She couldn’t remember the last time she’d felt this good… dammit, why had she never done this before?
And of course, the reason for that was running alongside her, she knew; without him, it wouldn’t have been anywhere near as fulfilling.

Nick charged into the stream without thinking twice about it and as Lynnette howled, he found himself joining her again. He half wanted to stop where he was and have a good long, howl but as long as Lynnette was moving, he was determined to be moving, too.
Definitely going to have to shake off good… Despite the thought, that was really the last thing he was worried about. He was having way too much to actually worry about being all wet.
Nick knew for certain that he had never had this much fun and never would again. At least, not unless Lynnette was with him. So long as she was there, he thought that everything would seem far better than it did when he was on his own.

Hearing another wolf howl with her sent a fire through her blood, and she wanted to keep singing, but running took precedence. It sent a tingling through her chest that she didn’t entirely recognise, but she wasn’t about to question it; she just knew it was good, and good things were rare in her experience. She had to grab them while they were in reach.
But the urge to play was getting stronger, and she gave a kind of yip of a noise, almost like a laugh of sorts, bounding along at a carefree, almost youthful pace, brisk though it was. There were no demands on what she should do with her time out here, and she wanted to abuse that privilege while it lasted.
She didn’t care that she was dripping wet, she didn’t care that she would feel the burning in her legs and lungs when she was done, and she most certainly did not care about scaring the fauna. She was completely without care, and didn’t want it to end.

As far as Nick was concerned, there was nothing like running with his nose to the wind. Unless, it was doing so with Lynnette. Yes, that was definitely better. No question about it whatsoever. He had never wanted to spend time with anyone like he wanted to spend it with Lynnette. Time with Lynnette was time well spent, no matter what they were doing.
There was nothing like the freedom a good run brought with it, especially a run away from the city. Out in the wilderness, it seemed like very little mattered and he decided that he should definitely do this a lot more often. Especially if he could convince Lynnette come along with him again…

The further she ran, the more playful she got, and the harder it was to deny those instincts, a little whining growl slipping up out of her throat. Another one of her wolfen chuckles rattled loose, and she wound around some trees, her long limbs bringing her up behind Nick easily, and she gave a little growl again, trusting him to interpret it correctly; there was no threat or danger to her actions… she simply wanted to have fun, and while running was fun in and of itself, there was just nothing like a chase… and right at that moment, she couldn’t deny the burning urge to chase Nick.
But what if he didn’t want to be chased? The thought flashed through her excited mind, and she almost stumbled, not wanting to irritate or disappoint him, but now that she had started, she would only confuse or trouble him if she pulled up suddenly. She had to learn to think her actions through, but with the moon calling so strongly, and her wolf form out and free, it was harder to deny her instincts than it would have been on any other day of the month, as a ‘human’.
She only hoped she hadn’t made a mistake.

Nick gave a little yip of excitement, Lynnette’s worries about making a mistake unknown. If she wanted to chase him, then by all means, he was ready to give her a chase. He put on a little speed to get a bit farther ahead of her, skidded to a stop as he slid around to face her and got down into the universally known ‘let’s play’ stance, not even taking notice that his tail was wagging furiously. He only knew three things right now: he was having fun, he was having fun with Lynnette and as soon as she started towards him, he was going to take off. He was full of playful energy and wondered if he could give her a decent chase before she managed to catch up to him. And if she decided that she didn’t want to play chase after all… well, there was always rolling around on the ground like the biggest goofball the world had ever seen.

Thank the moon for that.
Her own thought took her by surprise; she very rarely talked like that out loud, but it was also somewhat spontaneous for it to enter her mind, but she supposed it was the lunar cycle itself combined with her wolf form that had spurred it. It almost made her sound like she worshipped the moon, which, she supposed, in her own way, she sort of did. It had controlled much of her youth, and still held some sway over her. She had to give it the respect it deserved.
Her own mental track aside, she skidded to a stop when Nick wagged his tail mischievously at her, half his body crouched down, as if to pounce. She rocked her own hind quarters, returning the ‘play!’ hint, and gave a feral sort of grin, her eyes bright with enthusiasm and excitement.
And after a moment, quite suddenly, she pounced, giving a happy sort of bark of a noise, as if to say ‘surprise!’.

Nick gave a surprised sound as Lynnette pounced, twisting to the side and racing away, stopping after approximately twenty-five feet to turn around and look at her, reassuming the ‘play!’ stance, tail wagging even harder than it had been if that was at all possible. Come and get me! He knew perfectly well that her longer legs could cover the distance quickly, but that was half the fun. There was no use in playing if there wasn’t some sort of challenge to be had.
At that flickering thought, he wondered if Lynnette felt the same way. And, if she did, if he would be able to give her enough of a challenge to keep her entertained. She could outrun him easily if she decided to- that was definitely one of the bad things about having his particular wolf form. Would chasing him be enough to keep her interested or was he doomed to make this boring?

He was toying with her… and she didn’t mind at all. She loved a challenge, and he was making it entertaining by keeping her on her toes. She gave a playful growl, and narrowed her bright eyes, going down into a pose that would have looked perfectly natural in a lioness stalking her prey.
She prowled forward a few steps, keeping her eyes on Nick, as if looking away would prompt his flight, and that would just defeat the point of the game. Another little snarl rattled loose, and she wiggled her rear end from one to the other, like a kitten waiting to spring, and she hopped forward a few paces, before leaping again, trying to pounce upon him from a standstill; trying to take him by surprise.
And even if it didn’t work, she was enjoying herself all the same.

Nick gave a yip of surprise and tried to twist away, but wasn’t quite fast enough. He tumbled to ground and wiggled away quickly, dashing off to put a little distance between himself and Lynnette again before turning to face her, shaking himself off. Due to the size difference, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to send her tumbling to the ground, but maybe if he could manage a surprise attack… He would have to consider that.
He crouched low to the ground, watching, waiting to see what she would do. Had he been dealing with a non-supernatural creature, he would have blended perfectly into the shadows. As it was, he knew that she could pick him out of his surroundings, but that was okay. That was what made it fun.

He was quick, she had to give him that, but she had never doubted it. Smaller did not automatically equal ‘lesser’ in any sense of the word. In her experience, the smaller forms usually held more prowess in the field of speed, whereas the larger ones were built for brute strength and combat. She didn’t doubt that Nick could definitely give her a run for her money, even with her almost-too-long legs.
His form was darker than hers, with almost ink-black fur, but her keen, lycanthrope eyes picked him out from the surrounding foliage easily. She gave another growl; he was teasing her. She’d knocked him down, but he hadn’t stayed down. Had they been pack wolves, she might have been worried about offending him or challenging him, but they weren’t pack. She would never be pack again, and that granted her a kind of freedom that only rogues were allowed.
Slinking down low to the ground again, she crept to either side, and then lunged again, aiming to tackle him and tumble them both, determined to see if she could keep him down, if only in play.

Even as he was crouching there, his tail was wagging madly. He hadn’t minded taking a tumble, but he certainly wasn’t one to stay down. Although, he was actually considering doing so if Lynnette bowled him over again, just to see what she had planned. It could be interesting to see what she might do if he did stay down.
When she lunged again, Nick allowed her to tackle him and went to the ground, trying to land so as not to hurt himself and actually managing it. Staying where he was, he twisted around so that he could look up at her and let his tail continue to wag, waiting to see what her next move was going to be.

Surprised though she may have been that Nick let her topple him — since she knew he was quick enough to dart or wriggle out of the way — Lynnette couldn’t help the little rush of triumph that she felt. She gave a playful growl, feeling his tail swish back and forth against her hind paws, and looked down at him with bright, keen eyes. His own stared back at her, as if he was waiting for something.
In a sudden burst of mischief that she couldn’t deny, she lowered her muzzle, bumping his nose with hers, and then bounded off him, bouncing away with a little succession of yips of growls; ‘your turn to chase me now’.
