"You're not very talkative, are you?" Yelena responded, smirking as she regarded him from her lazy position, draped in the chair in her velvet dress. She sighed through her nose; rising languidly after a moment spent appraising him and the job she had done cleaning him up for now, "Not to worry, love, I'll get you to open up soon enough. There's more than a white rabbit in my bag of tricks."
She rose with the typical languid grace that infused all of her motions and she crossed over to the table once more. She dumped the cloth in it and ran her fingers thoughtfully around the edge of the bowl before turning to look at him, "What would you like for breakfast?" she asked out of the blue.

Her words were less than comforting and Denny didn’t want to know exactly how she planned to get him to open up. He supposed it would be pointless to try and convince her that he was a quiet person anyway, that he was normally this ‘talkative’ and anyway she had already moved the topic of conversation, changing the goal posts in this twisted game of hers yet again. From subtle threats to asking him what he wanted for breakfast…
“Cheese on toast?” he suggested, uttering the first food that came to mind – the traditional dish of Wales. Denny wasn’t even that fond of cheese on toast, and yet with the not so melodramatic possibility it was going to be his last meal he was asking for it. “Please,” he added softly, not wanting to appear rude – he wasn’t a rude person.

Her eyebrows rose and Yelena side stepped a little, one hand skimming its way gracefully to her hip while the other continued to play with the bowl, "Cheese on toast..." she repeated, a sly and amused smiled doing little to warm her ill-tempered features. She'd heard of it, she'd been through England and Wales and even Scotland in her earlier travels and on top of that she just wasn't stupid.
"Cheese on toast." She said yet again, nodding her head once as if to commit it to memory. Without another word she turned and left eh basement, once more leaving Thomas sitting slumped forwards in the chair across the table from Deiniol.
The vampire was gone for perhaps ten minutes, maybe a little less and when she returned it was with a tray carrying a plate of cheese on toast, a mug of Earl Grey and two segments of lemon on a saucer. She didn't speak. She simply set it down at the end of the table and then walked around to the back of her captive's chair. She pushed him into the table a little, without so much as a grunt of effort and then came alongside him.
"I'm going to unshackle you to eat." She told him, "Understand I will do worse than kill you if you stand up."

The whole time Yelena had been gone, Denny had been watching the dead body with morbid curiosity. He found himself wondering how long it would take for the flies to start crawling all over the dead, cold flesh and when the smell would become unbearable. How long before he started to decay and if the vampire would leave it down with him for much longer.
He watched quietly as she placed the tray on the table, noting the food and drink and knowing he was going to have to risk it and eat it – Denny really didn’t want to snub her, or reject her, even out of the fear of what she could have done to the food – he had seen what she was capable of and that wasn’t when she was angry.
“I understand,” Denny assured her, feeling as if he had done nothing but repeat her words back to her and of course; “Thank you.” He stared at the food, mentally saying grace as his religion demanded as he meekly waited for her to unshackle the chains.

Yelena didn't nod or acknowledge him at al, she simply took his words and moved to release the chains. There was no need to worry about him escaping. He'd have to over power her if he wanted to do that and frankly he didn't have a hope in hell. She stepped back to watch him, moving right to the edge of the shadows and producing a packet of cigarettes and a lighter from... somewhere on her person. The vampire proceeded to light oneof te offensive little white sticks and inhale deeply, blowing dirty smoke into the air around her.
"It's not poisoned," she offered, "If that's what you were thinking. What would be the point of killing you with cheese on toast..?" there was a not of dark humour in her voice, as if hinting that if she was going to kill him she'd be much more creative about it.

“I considered and then rejected the idea you would do that,” Deiniol answered as he slowly reached out and took the knife and fork from the tray. Briefly his mind ran over the possibility of somehow using the food knife as a weapon, to somehow aid him in escaping, but he knew such an act would be futile. Deiniol was no fighter, he didn’t believe in harming another, not matter what they might have done to him.
All this passed through his head in mere moments, the fluid pull back of his hand not stopping or faltering in any way. His expression had remained blank as well, no hint as to the thoughts currently running through his mind. Carefully he began to cut into one of the slices of toast, eyes down on the table and fixed on the food instead of the body opposite him. He speared the perfectly square piece with his fork, eyes still downcast.
Deiniol could feel Thomas’s gaze upon him, even though he was dead and his head wasn’t even facing the Welshman. He could feel the unspoken words and he knew there was no way he could eat this with the body there. Deiniol had hoped he could force himself but that seemed impossible now that the food was actually loaded on his fork. “I’m sorry,” he said softly, carefully placing the knife and fork back on the plate. “I can’t eat this Miss. Yelena, not with… him in the room.” Deiniol seemed oblivious of the title he had used in addressing the vampire, so used to adding titles to names that it came naturally and without thinking.

Smoke billowed out of her nostrils in two defined streams and Yelena stepped forwards, a smile that for a change carried genuine amusement behind it. "Miss Yelena..." she repeated, nibbling her bottom lip as she watched Deiniol intently. After maybe half a minute she cast her eyes down the length of the table and nodded, "If you keep p the civility I think I can manage that."
With the cigarette clamped between her lips, the vampire moved down to the end of the table and started to unshackle the body of Thomas, roughly tugging and jerking his limbs. After a moment he pitched forwards with the bindings that had been keeping him upright released and she caught him by the hair with one hand, the other wrapped around his neck and she half dragged, half picked him up fromt hechair and headed for the doorway.
"I haven't introduced you to my housemate yet," she said, pausing halfway, "Miron. He makes me look as gentle as a kitten and has very good hearing. He'll tear your face off if you try to leave this room without me. So tuck in and sit still."
Feeling her point had been made sufficiently, Yelena proceeded to drag the dead body with her out of the doorway.

Deiniol listened to her words, inwardly paling at the threat. He had no idea what or who ‘Miron’ was, but if he was worse than Yelena – something Denny had trouble imagining – then he was clearly a threat. And while the female vampire seemed to have plans for him; plans that were bound to be painful, Miron would apparently just kill him.
If suicide wasn’t a mortal sin there was a very real chance Denny would have considered trying to anger Miron. He had seen first hand what Yelena could do, to both Thomas and Father MacKenzie and he had no wish to also experience it first hand. But if he wanted any hope of God saving him he had to remain alive. He had to believe, to be worthy. He had to be Job.
He shifted slightly in his seat, chair legs pressing against the floor and making a noise. It seemed to be enough to attract attention, the door at the top of the basement stairs opening. Denny held his breath, watching and wondering what was about to come down the steps.
To see Miron was a Doberman was something of a surprise.

Yelena was going to wait until after dark to dispose of the body of poor "Tommy-boy" and while she left Deiniol down in the basement, watched over by her faithful pet she wrapped the corpse up in black bags with an undeniably practised ease and stored him out of the way in an industrial sized freezer. The LA heat could make a corpse stink something awful in a matter of hours.
Upon returning to the basement she was somewhat surprised to see Miron sitting on the floor watching the man. She stood in the doorway for a time, her eyes on the Doberman rather than her captive as she smoked her cigarette down to the filter jadedly.
"So. Making friends with Miron already." She piped up after a little while. The dog's ears pricked and he turned to go to his mistress, the command unspoken; he sat down at her feet, facing Deiniol once more.

When the Doberman – Miron – had entered the room and sat down, Deiniol had ignored him at first. He knew a little about dogs and this breed in particular, especially when trained for guarding and to appear afraid or to react negatively could trigger something he really didn’t want. Instead he calmly added the appropriate lemon to his cup of Earl Grey, sipping it slowly as he carefully turned his attention on the dog.
The two stared at each other for a while, before Yelena’s voice broke in, causing Denny to start ever so slightly – he hadn’t heard her enter. As Miron moved to sit next to her, he followed the dog with his eyes, noting how well behaved it was.
“Yes, we’re fast becoming firm friends.”

What started out as a small snort turned into amused, if dark, laughter and Yelena moved fully into the room, running cold fingers over Miron's head and inciting a low pitched growl from the dog. She looked at Deiniol all the while as she moved over to rest one hip against the table, folding her arms gracefully with painted fingernails black against her alabaster skin. "You managed eye contact, I'm vaguely impressed," she said conversationally.
The vampire practically had a multiple personality disorder; she could be completely calm and informal one moment and swing into sadistic violence the next. Her mood swings were intense and sudden but for now she was amused and placated. "He and Thomas didn't bond well." She said, eyes moving to look up into the shadowed ceiling space, apparently leaving the statement at that.

He wasn’t sure if ‘bonding’ with Miron was really a good thing or not. From Yelena’s tone she most likely didn’t take too kindly to people not treating Miron with respect and at least the Doberman wasn’t going for Deiniol’s face. But anything that served to amuse Yelena in relation to himself, made his skin crawl.
“He… probably didn’t have much experience with dogs,” Denny offered at last, voice breaking on the word ‘he’, mind flashing back to the moment he had watched delicate hands snap Thomas’s neck as if it was nothing more than a brittle twig. The whole morning was one surreal experience after another, from her cleaning him to having breaking to having a conversation about dogs as if it was almost normal. It was a lot better than pain however.

Dragging her eyes down from the ceiling was Yelena's way of acknowledging Deiniol's comment, a corner of her mouth quirked upwards briefly before her disinterested, apathetic expression returned and pale yellow eyes dropped to the table. She watched her fingertips play against the surface lightly, "I take it that means you do?" she asked slowly, the words drawling out languidly over her tongue and lips as she slowly looked up at him.
"Miron's not like other dogs," she said, as if adding his input there was a growl from the animal who sat erect by the doorway, "he has bloodlust... the desire for the hunt and the kill. When he was a pup, he used to bring back pet cats and rabbits all torn to pieces, all tufts of fur and cartilage. Have you had experience with dogs like that?"

Only because you’ve trained him that way…
Denny kept quiet as she spoke, not answering her first question. His uncle had owned and breed Dobermans for years and sometimes during the summer when he was little he was roped into helping look after them. He’d seen dogs as fierce and as full of bloodlust as Miron before, always because of the owner but already he knew better than to argue or disagree with Yelena in anyway.
Answering in the affirmative while being polite would be beyond stupid and he simply looked down at the ground, fingers twisting together nervously. Denny just wanted to go home, or to wake up and realise the whole thing was a nasty dream.

Yelena pouted, "Oh, now, don't get all silent on me." She drawled, her voice low and thick with mock displeasure. She was walking her fingers over the surface of the table sill and watched them instead of Deiniol until, that was, she walked them to the edge and they dropped off. The swing of her arm came up and struck her captive across the face, albeit lightly for a vampire's strike there was still some snap to it and before he could recover from it she had grabbed his jaw effortlessly.
"It wasn't a rhetorical question, Deiniol." She said darkly, angling his face towards her, one hand still resting on her opposite him, "When I ask you something you answer, that's the polite thing to do. Do you understand?"
