Cole didn't doubt for a second that Dia was a natural when it came to being a mother. She was already so protective and nurturing when it came to those younger than her within the pack whether they were fighters or just regular members. Dia was caring and compassionate as well as tough and powerful, the perfect combination for any mother. Nothing would hurt their child, certainly not if Dia had anything to say about it; Cole fully intended to keep their son or daughter safe but so help anyone who tried to get close to their child with its mother around. They wouldn't even have time to regret their mistake before Dia put them down and eliminated whatever threat they might have posed in the first place. A true mother wolf.
Regardless of the fact that their child would likely be the only one in its age bracket for much of its time growing up, at least the early years, Cole knew so many of the pack would endeavour to keep him or her company, whether that be reading them stories, playing games, watching movies or simply teaching them one thing or another that they might need to know as the years went on. You didn't have to be a child yourself to keep one entertained, to keep one from getting lonely, and Cole believed with all his heart that many of the wolves they called family would be eager to fill that role, each in turn. "A force to be reckoned with, for sure," he teased gently. "We're going to have our hands full, I think." He angled his gaze down towards her with a smile that was almost a smirk on his face. "What have we gotten ourselves into?"

Well that was one of the main laws of nature, wasn’t it? The fact that one of the most dangerous places to be was between a mother and her child. And anyone who tried to stand in-between was sure to meet an unhappy and probably very unpleasant end. “Something wonderful.” The reply was automatic and genuine and matter of fact. While finding out they were going to be parents had come as something of a surprise, it was one that had been welcomed with open arms and never for the tiniest moment consider as anything but a magnificent thing. “And I know we’re going to have our hands full.” If their child turned out to be anything like either of them in their younger days, that went without saying. With youth came rambunctiousness and an eager anticipation of everything yet to come. But it also brought things like recklessness and stubbornness, and it wouldn’t surprise Dia at all if once their child was born she and Cole were to get a taste of their own medicine, so to speak. Or at least be able to look back on their own younger years with a new point of view. Still, they, as well as the rest of the pack, would be there to guide and nurture in every way imaginable. “We’re going to have to baby proof the hotel, you know?” Ordinary children were mischievous enough when it came to getting themselves into things they shouldn’t under normal circumstances, never mind a werewolf child.

Something wonderful was perhaps a wild understatement, one that made Cole smile, an undeniably happy and affectionate expression as he looked down at his mate. Dia was in no way wrong about them having their hands full, that much was obvious; any child with the Alphas as parents was bound to be a handful, perhaps even unpredictable and downright troublesome but the father-to-be had no doubt that their son or daughter would always have the pack's best interests at heart, that they would grow to be just as loving and protective as their parents before them. They would learn all the values and ideals of those around them and the pack had so much to offer, so many wonderful lessons that could be taught so readily and so eagerly and Cole only hoped their child would be eager to learn.
"No doubt about that," he agreed, nodding his head before allowing himself a quiet laugh. "Something tells me we're going to have to start recruiting babysitters early," he said with a smile on his face, remembering all too well how he had always dodged such responsibilities when he was younger, conveniently found somewhere else to be when the older wolves with children were looking for someone to watch over their young for whatever reason. When it had been absolutely necessary Cole hadn't shied away, he had played his part and contributed like so many others but he hadn't seen himself fit for it, perhaps an odd thing to learn about a current Alpha and a future father. "Maybe babysitters who won't teach our child to play so many pranks," he added, his smile turning a touch playful and undoubtedly fond, thinking specifically of those like Jeremy and Violet, wolves who would gladly watch out for youngsters but ones who might teach them things they ought not to know.

With all the love and support their child was going to be born into, how could it be any other way? Children came with such a large amount of responsibility, but at the same time brought such an amount of joy. There would be so much to teach them, so many things to show them. Not just one lifetime as was the case for humans, but several, of wisdom and knowledge and stories to pass on. Watching their child take it all in, the anticipation of seeing ultimately what he or she might do with everything at their disposal was an unknown but magnificent factor at the same time. And no matter the outcome, both she and Cole would be proud.
Dia hadn’t been quite as bad as Cole on dodging that duty in years past. But even then with as hotheaded as she’d been and the fact that she’d always been a strong dedicated fighter, there had always also been obvious motherly tendencies that showed up in their own subtle ways. Ways that became more and more prominent over the years as the more volatile side of her wolf tempered with age and wisdom. Upon initial consideration it was a dichotomy that could very easily not make any sense or never quite mesh at all, but in Dia, it seemed to have taken hold in exactly the needed combination. She chuckled softly, looking up at her mate. “That just might be a good idea.” The first time anyone’s hair shows up an odd color, they’ll know exactly who it is passing on their favorite pranks and general ways of misbehaving. “But I don’t think we’ll have any trouble finding volunteers.”

They would have so many years to teach and love their child just as everyone around them would, their son or daughter would be forever surrounded by eager and willing teachers and family members and friends from all walks of life. Cole and Dia's pack had been taking in anyone and everyone from the world over for centuries now; when they had stepped into power -- though not so much as stepped as battled -- they had vowed to change everything and Cole believed they had done what they had set out to do. They had promised to lead the pack back into a time of stability and warmth and comfort, they had promised to return it to its former glory before the former leaders' descent into madness, before Gareth and Alswytha had led them all blind into the darkness. Cole and Dia had taken the pack by the hand and guided them back into the light and the Alpha male fully believed that their child would have the best chances in life now that the pack was back at its strongest and best.
Cole had long since changed from the days when he would shirk that kind of responsibility; there was no way he could have become an Alpha without being willing to watch over and protect others, guide and teach them, take them into his own heart and his own life as a father would a child. He had those like Natasha and Meghan, wolves within the pack who practically looked to him as a father and he to them as daughters, something that would shock and confuse -- perhaps even amuse -- humans given their closeness in physical age. Cole was past the point of putting other things first, he had opened his heart and his mind and learned what was important. He was ready to be a father. "I would hope not," he said with a rumble of warm amusement in his voice. "I can think of a few off the top of my head, at least," he went on to add with a smile.
