“Oh, hey,” Cassidy began, regarding Sissy once again after the Alpha Male had departed the room. “I got a book from the library that you should really read after I’ve finished it.” She reached to where she’d put down the Kelley Armstrong novel, ‘Bitten’, and showed it to her friend as she held the remains of her cheeseburger a good distance away to keep the book safe. “She’s got some cool ideas, actually, even if, y’know, she’s obviously never met the real thing.”
She grinned in a cheeky manner, and held it between them in case Sissy wanted to read the ‘blurb’ on the back.

Immediately her bright, interested expression darkened, and she slammed the notebook shut.
"No one's asking you to," she snapped, rising and moving away from him with the intent of leaving.

Sissy moved her food aside, making a place for Cassidy to put the book on the table so she wouldn't have to hold it. "Well, I can say that it's not one that I've read before considering I've never been able to find any writer who seems to have interesting ideas about us. They tend to just rehash the same thing time and time again."
She turned slightly to the side, away from the book, to take a bite and turned back to read the back of the book, chewing thoughtfully as she did so. One thing was for certain, if she didn't discover an interesting book on her own, she could count on Cassidy to and then tell her about it.
She swallowed as she finished reading. "Well, now I'm interested. It sounds entertaining at the very least."

At Heidi's huffy reaction, Steven sighed, shaking his head. What was THAT about? It had been a simple statement . . . Shaking his head again, he muttered in an exasperated tone, "Females . . . " Only then did he realize, aside from Devon off to the side, everyone around him WAS female. Oops . . . Offering a sheepish smile at the few looks he got for the statement, he shrugged and plopped down into an empty chair. He'd let her cool off a bit before trying to figure out what he'd done wrong, this time . . .

Before Heidi could leave the room, Kyle appeared. "Cole would like you to join him in the lobby," he told her. "The attorney is here."
"Oh? Thank you, Kyle." Curious now as to what Marion might have to say, she followed the young male out to the hotel entryway, notebook still firmly gripped in one hand.

"Did you lot clear out all those burgers already?" asked Heidi laconically, following Cole into the room. She glanced around and saw Steven was exactly where she'd left him. Might as well get this over with. She approached him and coughed.
"If you will kindly walk up to my office with me," she said coolly, "I'll fill you in on what our legal representative just told Cole and me."

Steven had been in a bit of conversation with Devon when the Alpha and Beta returned from whatever had happened. When Heidi approached he fought off the urge to roll his eyes again, rather certain she was still ticked off at him. The cool tone of her voice confirmed his suspicions, making him grimace inwardly. Wonderful . . . Just wonderful. THIS is going to be awkward . . .
"Alright. Lead the way." He was quiet as he got up and followed her, still trying to figure out just what to do to fix whatever he did wrong.

Continued from: Cole’s Study.
Moving back around the table to more or less claim his original seat — in that he sat on the table rather than the chair pulled out from it, making sure to move the remains of his original burger beforehand — he watched his Betas leave the room, and then turned back to his mate. Seeing her silently inquisitive expression, he said to her, “Legal stuff.” He smirked teasingly, and then added, “I’ll tell you after lunch,” so she wouldn’t thwap his leg for winding her up.
Glancing around, it quickly became apparent he hadn’t missed much; Cassidy and Sissy were discussing books, Devon was searching through the bags for another burger he might snack on, and Kyle had claimed a seat near the end of the table, apparently reading through a paper. His eyes were soon back on Dia though, even as he started picking at his reclaimed lunch.

Dia had taken note when both Cole and then Heidi exited, apparently to take care of some new matter at hand. She knew that Cole would inform her soon enough if it was a matter involving the pack, and if her presence was needed it would be requested well.
The small exchange between the two Betas both before and after Heidi left the dining room did make her chuckle a bit. She recalled quite clearly having a few discussions of a similar tenor with a certain male, albeit centuries ago. So needless to say, she was a bit amused even if the two parties involved were not. Perhaps she’d say something to one or both of them eventually, even if probably only in jest.
She nodded at the information it had been a legal matter of some sort, which almost certainly meant Marion had been here, if she wasn’t still. “Still hungry?” she asked with a smirk, knowing the quite obvious answer, but poking fun at her mate nonetheless.

“Starving,” he admitted, laughing lightly to himself, and for her to hear. “Though something tells me quite a few of the pack haven’t realised there’s takeout; there’s still food left.” He’d leaned back enough to see the bulges still in the bags on the tabletop; evidence of the prizes still to be claimed. “I, foolishly, missed breakfast, so now I guess I’m making up for it.” He gestured to the nearly-devoured burger in his hand, and then met her gaze anew.
“You never answered my question,” he reminded her, leaning down a little so that his elbows were perched on his knees, the soles of his boots rested on the seat of the chair he had been using before going to speak with Marion. “How was sparring?”

“Give them time, it’s not as if it’ll go to waste,” she replied. A statement that was more than true. Especially if was around what could be considered a meal time, members of the pack would simply wander in. And to their luck, today happen upon what was left. “Do I need to make sure you get all your meals?” she asked in an obvious tone of jest, giving Cole an amused smirk. Not to say that she thought such a thing was necessary by any means but the thought amused her nonetheless.
She smiled at the repeated question. Cole usually did make a point to enquire about her activities when they were apart; not that he was keeping tabs but simply cared enough to want to know. Something Dia found to be quite endearing, actually.
“Sparring went well. Vivian seems to have a lot of potential if she stops over thinking things so much.” Being able to gauge potential for improvement amongst the pack’s fighters and those who aspired to be was something that simply came over having fought so much herself. And of course, it was always good to know if someone was a ‘lost cause’ so to speak. Though that was very rarely ever the case, since not everyone had the same fighting niche. Usually if they could be taught to utilize their advantages and talents properly, they would certainly be able to hold their own against most opponents.

The rhetorical question about making sure Cole got all his meals made the Alpha Male smile, and chuckle quietly, as he continued to pick at his burger. She was right, of course. If those already in the dining room didn't finish off what Heidi and the library 'team' had brought back with them, then it wouldn't take long for others in the hotel to happen upon the offerings and pick off what was left. Spare food never lasted long in this place... especially takeout. It was convenient, and tempting.
"That's good then," he acknowledged in regards to Vivian, who it seemed had the potential to be another fighter. It wasn't that Cole wanted most of his pack to be in that 'occupation' within the group, but the more skills they had when it came to combat, defense and the like... well, it was definitely an asset to the unit as a whole. The better they could protect themselves and the others who were either too young or inexperienced, then the stronger they were.

Dia returned the smile her comment gained. And she was neither of the opinion that the entire pack should be comprised of fighters. But yes, they did need a certain number to ensure the safety of the pack, and they had more than adequate numbers with those who decided to fill that role on their own.
She was a fighter herself mostly because she’d been so adamant about being able to take care of herself and not be one of those who others have to look after. But she realized that not all were as…stubborn, , perhaps, as she was and it was the choice of each pack member, really.
“I should go get cleaned up,” she said, having finished with her own meal. Of course, she knew there was certainly still a matter or two concerning the pack and Marion’s visit to discuss, but as always, they would do so where not so many others are present.

Had Dia said such thoughts to him, Cole would have, naturally, agreed. And not only because of their status as mates and lovers, but because of the sense it made. They always had more than enough pack members offering to train or stand as fighters should the need arise; it was admirable, and touching on some level, but somewhat unnecessary. They had enough already-trained wolves in the pack to defend and stand in combat, should it come about.
The Alpha Male had managed to pick apart a second burger during the time they had been sitting together, and as such, he had filled a figurative hole in his appetite. He could eat more later, if he wanted to, so he really had no need to stay in the dining room. "Well, I wouldn't want you to delay that need on my account," he said quietly, smiling faintly before glancing around the room. Everyone was too caught up in their own conversations and eating to focus on the Alphas, and what they might discuss.
Cole slipped from his perch on the table's edge, his boots landing quietly on the floor, and he cocked his head, turning towards the door after giving her a look that said it all; 'coming?'.

Ohhhhh yes - bacon double-cheese. The young wolf lifted the warm burger from the bag as though it were the Holy Grail. Come to papa...
Devon plopped himself down in the nearest available chair, unwrapping his treasure before promptly devouring half of it. They didn't call him "The Garbage Disposal" for nothing; one had to earn such a title. Further proving his psuedonym, Devon looked slyly to Cassidy after swallowing most of his mouthful. "'Ey, Cass, you gonna eat those fries?"
