"Whoa, Nate, back up," Cole said quickly, putting himself between the human and the young wolf, trying to meet Mara's gaze with his own. "Mara... Mara, look at me." He saw the shake in her hands, but didn't reach to touch or steady her; she had to do this herself. The moon was getting closer, and it was getting to her.
Nate stepped back, taking hold of Brock's scruff, and taking the husky with him. The two were silent, watching Mara and Cole.
"Mara... the wolf lives inside you; not the other way around. You have to control it. You can control it..." He believed she could do that, and though he knew he shouldn't use her empathy for his own benefit, he hoped she would pick up on his confidence; he was confident in her ability to calm her wolf.

Mara heard him and her wolf heard him - the wolf responded to his voice with reverence and wanted to come out and show him it's strength - forcing her eyes up she looked at him, her eyes completely gold now, and her teeth and nails slightly extended. She heard his words - they seemed so far away. She began to growl, albeit low - but listening to him. His eyes bored through her - there was a command there... and an undercurrent of confidence - in me... dear god, he trusts me....Nate...Brock...not like the family before... I will NOT let it rule me...I am in charge...I am....not you....
The growl lessened slowly - with a final effort she dropped her head and took a deep breath. When she looked up again, her eyes were brown again. She stood shakily and said "Thank you" very quietly. "I'm sorry. Very sorry," she said this looking over at Nate and Brock.

Sissy could feel herself pale at this sudden turn of events. She knows you're angry?! I demand you calm yourself down this instant! She had learned how to control her transformation, but controling the wolf wasn't nearly as easy. It didn't like to listen to her when it was convinced it was right or had something in its head. At the moment, it wanted nothing more than a fight with the newcomer in order to warn her away from Nate. Sissy, however, wasn't about to have it. The wolf wanted control and it wanted it badly, but she was pushing it down with all of her might.
I hope you were listening to Cole, because that goes for us, too. You're in me, not the other way around. I'm in control and I'm telling you to just shut up and calm down. Mara is hurt and Nate can help her. I'm not letting you cause trouble. Is that clear? The wolf wasn't happy and when the wolf wasn't happy, it made it known. Much to Sissy's dismay, it seemed to enjoy the realization that Mara could pick up on its emotions.

Though no outward tension or anticipation was detectable in her, the moment Mara lashed out Dia was on alert, more than ready to move if her mate or others needed her to. This one definitely didn’t need to be on her own during the full moon. And she didn’t particularly like pack members being at possible risk to be harmed either. Yes, they were helping Mara because she was one of their kind, but their pack came first. A simple glance to the other two female pack members present was fairly clear. It would be best if they headed elsewhere while this was sorted out.

Oddly enough, Cassidy had been uncharacteristically silent during the entire ordeal. She'd offered Mara a faint wave in greeting when she'd arrived, but otherwise, had just listened, and watched.
Needless to say, she hadn't expected any of that to happen. So, feeling rather awkward, it would have taken quite a bit to make her disobey Dia in that moment. She was more than ready to leave the room; not even the promise of harmlessly flirting with Nate made her want to stay.
Rising from the stool, she glanced meaningfully to Sissy, and nodded for the door. It was time they high-tailed it outta there...

Sissy gave a very slight nod to Cassidy. The wolf was adamant they stay and she was adamant they leave before something ended up happening that she couldn't take back. As much as she hated to end the time with Nate, it was important that she get out of there as quickly as possible. She moved forward silently, careful not to catch anyone's eye as she headed out of the room. She couldn't help how the wolf was reacting and she thought she was doing a fairly good job at keeping it from taking over, but she felt that getting away from Nate and Mara would do them both some good.

The human shook his head. "It's okay," he assured Mara when she apologised, offering her a somewhat crooked smile. He wasn't afraid of her, as such... he knew very well that she couldn't help it. Cole had told him something about her being unique, but hadn't given Nate any specifics. He was starting to wonder if that had been part of the reason for the 'outburst'.
As Cassidy and Sissy left the room, he let out a slow breath. "I should check the wound's not infected," he reminded everyone in the room calmly; he was using his good bedside manner to the best of his ability. Hopefully, it was doing its job.

Mara looked at the female's leaving and felt tears well in her eyes. She looked over to Dia and said quietly, "I'm sorry. I didn't want to be a danger." She looked directly at the female and said evenly, "I'm empathic. Someone was angry with something... I don't know why really - and my wolf won't ignore rage. The wound - I got it in jail, and I'm fairly sure the blade was silver."
Taking a careful seat she lay her arm on the table and looked at Cole, then Nate. "I will keep control now. Please, continue. "

“It’s all right,” Dia said, giving her head something of a dismissive shake to emphasize it was ok. “You can learn to control it in time. The wolf gets hard to keep at bay sometimes. Especially when it’s so new.”
Making a mental note of Mara’s ‘skill’ Dia’s mind briefly wandered to who it was that had been so angry and why. It certainly wasn’t her, and certainly she would have been able to sense such emotion from her own mate. So that left the two who had just left and Nate. And call it a hunch, but for the moment she had a feeling it wasn’t the usually calm doctor.

Empathic... there's a new one.
Nate had heard of humans with the trait, so he supposed it wasn't so difficult to grasp. Smiling in acknowledgement of the sharing of information, he moved to the table at the side of the room as well, and sat opposite Mara, after retrieving his bag from beneath the piano.
Going about his work, he checked, cleaned and dressed the wound. "It's not too badly infected. I've cleared it out, so it should start to heal properly now. It might sting a little, but it shouldn't give you any trouble... at least not for much longer."
Brock sat at Mara's side, looking up at her as if to remind her he had good ears for scratching, in case she needed the reassurance or distraction. Idly, Nate wondered if she could sense the dog's emotions as much as she could apparently sense everyone else's; it wasn't too unreasonable to assume... after all, she could 'read' werewolves well enough...

Mara smiled down at the husky and extended her free hand to pat him. "I'm grateful to him. The first time I started to feel a loss of control he leaped in and licked my face - a dog's love is complete and it's hard to feel too bad with adoration flowing over you." She scratched his ears and his head, smiling contentedly. "Thank you for that - it feels better than before - I'd almost gotten used to the ache."
Standing, she stepped calmly over Brock and retrieved her staff and camera bag. Nodding to Cole, she looked to Dia and back. "If the legend about silver is real, then is it too much of a leap to assume that you both are the alpha pair?" Her stomach gave a growl that was audible and she gave a sheepish smile. "Sorry, been a while. I was waiting for the money from the photography to come in to get a good meal."

Giving a grateful nod and smile to their doctor, Cole turned his eyes on Mara as she collected her belongings.
"Dia and I are the Alphas; that's right. We've both lived in this pack our whole lives... and now we protect it. A good deal of LA 'belongs' to us... another pack defends the other side, which is why you'll never see any of us crossing that 'line'." He smiled wanly. There was no actual line. It was simply common knowledge as to where they could and could not go, if they intended to keep the peace... as it were. He would have to tell Mara more about that.
"Dia and I have been in charge for... a long time now." He smiled faintly again, slightly nostalgic, before her stomach growled. Cole's smile broadened. "We have a fully stocked kitchen, and you're more than welcome to help yourself. I can show you the way, if you'd like, or you can... follow your nose."

"Well - I could certainly use some food - but... do I have a room? I'd like to put these down somewhere safe. And .." she wanted to put forth the next question, but didn't know how to.
Am I safe to wander around? For everyone else, and for myself?"
Shifting her bo to her other shoulder, she absently stroked its length before finally saying, "I can follow my nose to food, but... should I?"

“Go ahead, no one here bites, I promise,” Dia replied as she nodded towards the door, a slight smirk accompanying her mostly serious expression. “Don’t worry. You’re a guest here. You’re welcome. No one will harm you.” Anyone who might assume otherwise would have to deal with she and Cole. Something she had a strong feeling none in the hotel were too keen to try, with obvious good reason.

Cole smiled at Dia's treatment of Mara, and looked to the newcomer for himself. "You'll have your own room; obviously, there's no shortage of them in the hotel." He glanced to Nate, who didn't seem to have any problems with Mara heading out and exploring, or getting some food.
"We'll find you a room, and then I'll show you the kitchen," he offered, glancing to his mate to see if she had any other quips or suggestions.
