“No.” Dia shook her head briefly, smile widening just a bit. “Just the opposite, actually. Well, in a way. I think I’m pregnant.”
Dia paused for a second, since it was a statement that deserved one. “I’m not going to say anything to Cole until I know for sure.” It wasn’t even necessary to verbalize the fact that she knew Heidi could be trusted with that. “So not going with an entire crew would be ideal.”

Heidi's face lit up at the news. "That's wonderful." And it was, if it was true. Heidi had long suspected she might be incapable of childbearing herself; she had spent more than fifty years with 'him,' as she referred to the wolf who had turned her, without issue. Not only that, but her human marriage had been childless as well. Even if she had a mate, she doubted her own ability to give him a child.
But if Cole and Dia had one...it would be the next best thing to having her own. They and Steven were her closest and most trusted friends; it would be a source of joy to all four.
At the second part of the explanation, she nodded. "Yes, I think you're quite right. We'll have to find a way to get out without an entourage...and that won't be easy. Kyle, I'm sure, will give us a particularly hard time about it."

In reaction the Heidi’s exuberance, Dia laughed and grinned for a moment. No doubt the other female would look forward to being ‘Aunt Heidi.’ Even with a mother and father present, pups were always the responsibility of the whole pack. And there were no others in the pack at the moment, so beyond being the offspring of the Alphas, any that might be born would no doubt be a welcome addition.
“And yeah, off the top of my head he’s the one that comes to mind. Kyle’s not going to be very happy about being told to stay behind.” Dia smirked again. “But I’m sure he’ll get over it.”

"I'm sure he's not about to argue with you, at any rate," Heidi replied with a chuckle, now rubbing Brock's belly as he gave a soft whine of happiness. "But on the other hand, I wonder if maybe we shouldn't take just him. It would be enough to deter anyone else who found out and tried to play bodyguard, and Kyle's so quiet anyway that he's bound to keep his mouth shut. We could probably convince him to wait outside the hospital or something, if he insisted on coming. I'm sure Cole wouldn't be pleased with the two of us if we went with no escort at all -- but I'll leave it to your discretion. Whatever you decide, I'll do."

The young human listened to the two female werewolves discussing plans, and watched his dog revel in the attention from Heidi. He didn't really have any reason to hang around now besides a distinct lack of other priorities or activities lined up for the remainder of the day.
He would at least stick around to hear whether the two were going to bring Kyle along or leave him behind and risk venturing out on their own; either way, he'd like to know in advance before he arranged to meet them at the hospital so he could check out Dia's suspected pregnancy for her. Nate had to admit he was definitely curious about a werewolf pregnancy, and he found himself wondering what the ultrasound would look like...

Dia nodded. “It probably is a good idea. We’ll see how much of a fuss he kicks up about it. If we do end up taking anyone else along it will be Kyle.”
Because the last thing that she’d want was Cole getting wind of things, getting worried and sending a group out after them. She had wanted it to be a surprise of sorts, but it wouldn’t be worth putting the others on alert for. The intent was moreso for her to not have to broach the subject with her mate unless she was absolutely certain, but making him worry unnecessarily wasn’t worth keeping the surprise. Still, there was the fact that the Alpha could very much be stubborn in her own way, though it might not be the best time for the trait to come to the surface.
She did realize Kyle would be good to have along- he only had the well being of the packs Alphas and Betas in mind and yes, could be covert about things.

"Okay." Heidi grinned. "And until we know for sure, no heavy lifting for you. You'll probably want to take a break from the sparring too...can't be too careful with the pack's little prince. Or princess."
She concluded her attentions to Brock's belly and stood up. "Brocky, you are the love of my life," she told the husky, who was looking at her with sad eyes, "but my hands are getting tired."

Nate knew how rough the sparring could be around this place - having witnessed one or two sessions during his employment with the pack - but it all depended on the opponent. "You'd probably be okay sparring with Cole... after all, I have a hard time believing he'd actually hit you," the doctor pointed out to the Alpha female with a gentle smile.
Brock whined madly as Heidi stopped rubbing at him, pawing at her leg gently as if to ask what he'd done wrong, looking miserable. "Stop that," Nate laughed, and dug into the pocket of his jacket. He pulled out a treat, and after a minute, the husky was soon focusing his attentions on crunching the biscuit instead of bugging the Beta female.

“Heidi, I’ll be pregnant, not incapacitated.” The words were spoken almost before the thought had fully set in. Not to say she wouldn’t be careful should the time come- the well being of she and Cole’s child would come before all else no matter what. Still, for a fighter, the realization that they might not be able to fight for some time would of course be jarring at first.
Shaking her head almost at her own statement, Dia laughed. “You’re right, though. That will take some getting used to. Besides,” she added with a smirk, “I get Cole to do all the heavy lifting anyway.”

Tuning didn't take very long for Mileena. Over the centuries, she had managed to develop almost perfect pitch, so making sure her precious instrument was set properly was merely second nature. The Asian fighter plucked the violin's strings lightly, one last check before she settled the instrument on her shoulder and raised the bow.
Hm...Paganini? No, not tonight...hm -- maybe a bit of Vivaldi. Yes, that'll do nicely.
The concerto flowed from her like second nature and Mileena moved fluidly in time to the music. From the large bay window she could see the L.A. skyline and the heavy moon that beamed down from the heavens. Her wolf saw it, too, but rather than pace and pine as usual, it focused on the music that she played. The music always helped...

Continued from: Hallways with Cassidy
Irina nodded, apparently coming to the same conclusion as Cassidy regarding asking for music lessons from Devon or any of the others for that matter, she wasn't that musical after all.
"Ooh, maybe we should. I'll even put my Stetson on." she laughed aloud as they came upon the music room. She could hear a violin playing and saw that it was Mileena standing before one of the large bay windows as she played. For a fleeting moment Irina wished that she could express a little more in the way of gentility the way the older fighter did. But as soon as the thought crossed her mind she dispelled it, stretching with her wolf who rolled around discontentedly.

Cassidy laughed too, the mental image of Irina approaching Brody wearing a cowboy hat too funny to just ignore. Seeing Mileena by the window, Cassidy cocked her head and smiled, listening to the sound of the violin as the notes rang cleanly and beautifully through the air.
Almost immediately, after they stepped through the door, Cassidy found her feet pulling her towards the grand piano, slipping onto the bench and letting out a sigh. She looked down at the ivory keys and smiled. God, she loved this thing. She ran her fingers over the keys, not pressing, just feeling the smooth texture of them, resisting the urge to play something while Mileena was practising. The sound of the violin was too beautiful to interrupt.

Instead of following Cassidy to the piano, Irina made a bee-line for a stack of EPs on the floor next to one of the speakers. She scooped them up and moved to sit herself down near the seat Cass occupied in front of the piano, listening to Mileena's piece the entire time.
A tiny smile played on her features as she tucked her legs beneath herself, shuffling through the records she had left behind at some point earlier that week. Ooh, Kansas. I was looking for this, she thought to herself, flipping the record over to read the back.

She had scented the two females coming down the hallway and smiled to herself as they entered. Mileena ended her Vivaldi with an artistic arpeggio and turned on her heel, flashing Irina and Cassidy an amiable smile. As much as she loved practicing, she wouldn't say no to company either.
"Hello, ladies," she greeted them. Carefully, she tucked her violin under one arm and moved to join the two females. "All's well?"

Cassidy felt the oddest, brief flicker of jealousy… it would have been inexplicable if she hadn’t noted the fact that she occupied a room with two ‘qualified’ pack fighters, while she sat there, a simple member, with no responsibility or respect beyond that of any other general wolf in the unit. Sighing to herself, she cast such bitter, envious thoughts back where they belonged, far beneath the surface.
Now that Mileena had finished her playing, Cassidy allowed herself a smile, and began a simple, short piece as she formed a response, “Just trying to keep busy before I smash another innocent lamp.” She recalled the previous month, when her ‘big brother’ had made a valiant attempt to save one, only to nearly get hit in the head by it instead.
Serves him right for being such a big target, she thought with affectionate amusement.
