Even though he had always, in some fashion, been a morning person, that didn’t mean he was necessarily at his best, or most graceful, when the time came to actually get up and out of bed.
And that was why he was glad he didn’t share a room with anyone.
Seth Altham rolled, giving a sleepy groan… and yelped abruptly when he ran out of mattress. His lycanthropic reflexes kicked in sharply, and all grogginess and lethargy were washed away by a sudden, instinctual alertness as he managed to twist awkwardly, landing in a kind of feline, crouched position on the carpeted floor alongside his bed. Blinking blue eyes, he poked his head over the end again, as if he expected to see some small gremlin or other creature that he could blame for the spill. But it was just him, the tumbled pillows and the crumpled sheets and blankets.
He looked around, clearing his throat, and then rose with a smooth grace only a werewolf could achieve, ruffling his hair with his hand as if falling out of bed had all been part of his grand scheme for the day.

Continued from: Nenet’s Bedroom
Nenet held the wrap lightly together in one hand as she walked, the sleeve of her dress slipping down slightly to reveal the glass bracelet she always wore around her wrist. It was a gift from Seth, one she treasured and the one piece of jewellery that she would wear no matter what the rest of her outfit was like. It was the single exception to making sure everything matched.
She reached up with her free hand and rapped lightly on the door to Seth’s room, wondering if the brat was awake yet. It didn’t matter to her that technically he was a few minutes older than her, he was still a brat to her, as if he was a younger, more annoying sibling. Woe betide however, anyone who called Seth a brat in her hearing, or any other name that could be considered even slightly insulting. She did not take to having her lifelong friend belittled in any way, even if it had been done in jest.

A scruffy head poked out from the bathroom, and blue eyes blinked, one brow lifting. Who would knock on his d—?
He grinned childishly at the scent that trickled through under the frame of the door, and almost tripped out of the doorway to head to the entrance to his bedroom, padding along on bare feet, dressed in a pair of shorts and a plain t-shirt; his usual sleeping attire. It wasn’t every day that his favourite person in the world knocked on his door; it was usually the other way around, and he supposed he was a little eager to soak up the moment.
Seth opened the door, smiling at her right away, aware he needed to comb his hair and shave, not to mention dress in actual clothing, but he didn’t care. He always felt relieved and contended to see her safe and well and… Nenet.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?” he greeted her, angling his body in such a way that would allow the Egyptian female entrance, an unspoken, obvious invitation though that was even without the gesture.

It was hard not to grin at the sight that awaited her when Seth finally opened his door, the other wolf looking as if he had just rolled out of bed. Knowing him, he probably had. She settled for a faint twitching of her lips instead, her brown eyes automatically softening as she looked at her friend. Seth knew her well enough to understand the tiny smile and recognise it for what it was.
Nenet tilted her head slightly to the side, remaining in the doorway despite the unspoken invitation. She hadn’t thought she had woken up particularly early but here they were, her dressed to the nines and him still in his bed clothes. “I could come back later if you want to finish?” she offered, hesitating on entering if he had other things that he needed to do.

Seth beamed like a kid at Christmas. Nenet didn’t have to laugh and smile obviously for him to know she was pleased, and if he could cheer her up in even the slightest way, then he considered that an accomplishment. It had always been one of his purposes in life, alongside keeping her safe and protected; he had faltered in that duty in the past, and he was determined to never let it happen again.
“Don’t be silly,” he ‘chided’ her gently, giving a wave of his hand for her to come in. “You know me; fall out of bed, tumble into some clothes, brush hair and teeth… good to go. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, as the saying goes.” He grinned, hoping to see that little smile of hers again.

Her head dipped slightly in acknowledgement of Seth’s words, the same small smile on her face. Although she would never come out and actually tell him, Nenet thought the scruffy look rather suited him, but only him. Normally she liked to see people well groomed and tidy yet Seth was the exception to the rule. He was always the exception to any rule she had.
“You mean you’re good to go looking like a tramp?” Nenet asked innocently, stepping through the door gracefully and moving further inside. “And how exactly can you fall out of bed? It’s rather low to begin with…”

He closed the door quietly behind her, giving them a little privacy, and walked away from the entrance, back towards the bathroom. He stopped near to the doorway, but didn’t step through it, turning to regard Nenet, softly cheeky smile still in place. “A tramp? Well, I would say I’m hurt, but… well, I saw myself in the mirror a few minutes ago.” Seth laughed lightly. “Tramp is actually sort of fitting.” His smile was gentle but sincere.
His blue eyes found the bed, with its rumpled sheets and tangled blankets, topped by scattered pillows, and his smile was sheepish; his shrug lazy. “I have a gift.” After a pause he added, “But at least I didn’t land on my face. Then I would have something to be embarrassed about.”

“It’s no fun if you agree with my insults,” Nenet grumbled softly although without any real heat in her words. She would never try and deliberately insult Seth with the intent to hurt him and they both knew it.
Her eyes followed his as they tracked to the messy bed and she sighed, shaking her head and moving towards it, collecting the pillows and blankets. Nenet began to carefully smooth the sheets down, tiding up the bed as she spoke. Just because Seth was a tramp didn’t mean he had to live in a pig sty. “I only have your word that you didn’t land on your face. Maybe you did and you’re too embarrassed to admit it.”

“Sorry, Princess,” he apologised. “Didn’t mean to spoil your fun.” Oddly enough, Seth always sounded completely genuine when he apologised to Nenet, even if he was smiling softly as he spoke. He knew he hadn’t genuinely irritated her, just as she hadn’t actually insulted him, but it was so automatic, he couldn’t help it.
There she went tidying his bed again. It was like some kind of bizarre little routine for them, if and when she graced his room with her presence in the mornings, and opposed to the other way around. He couldn’t remember a time when it hadn’t happened; he wasn’t the most untidy pack member, but he could be noticeably lazy first thing on any given day.
“Aha… that… that’s a good point.” The scruffy male wagged a finger in her direction, rubbing his other hand over his stubbly jaw. “Hmm… well, your choice. You can believe what you will, but I think I’d be checking my nose in the mirror if I had landed on my face, correct?”

Nenet shook her head again, bending further over the bed as she did. Her thick black hair tumbled down, creating a curtain between herself and Seth and she allowed herself a larger smile. It wasn’t that she didn’t want him to see her smiling, but rather something inside of her prevented her from letting anyone see her too happy. From letting anyone know they were getting close to her, that they had slipped completely behind her defensives.
He of course, had been behind them for as long as she could remember. One of her earliest memories was of Seth and she cherished every moment she had with him – but that didn’t mean she had to let it show. If she allowed even a tiny crack to appear in her amour then the whole thing would buckle and break under the pressure and Nenet didn’t know what would happen then.
She straightened up again, the smile gone from her face as she turned her head to face him. “Maybe you already have. Maybe that’s why you are still in your bed clothing, because you have been spending all morning making sure your face was unharmed…”

Somehow, even with the curtain of black curls in the way, he just ‘knew’ she was smiling, and it made his boyish grin grow. He practically bounced on the balls of his feet, knowing that, even though she was concealing it, it was there and he had been the cause of it, if only accidentally. But he didn’t call her on it, or laugh and point. That wasn’t how it worked. Nenet would hide that happiness, and Seth, even if he caught her ‘at it’, would respect that.
“Curses… she’s onto me.” He snapped his fingers, pacing a little in a dramatic little play, as if he were thinking over how to pull the wool over her eyes. “Now what shall I do? My secret’s out… hmm… can I trust her?” He spoke ‘secretively’, knowing she would hear every word, every syllable, and he fought against a smile. “Will she give me away, and ruin the façade of grace and poise I’ve managed to carry so well all these years?”

It never ceased to amuse and amaze her, just how far Seth was willing to go for the sake of a few laughs. He was still able to retain his youthful enthusiasm and attitude despite the past and Nenet sometimes envied him for that ability. To be able to let yourself go and just follow a silly thread for as long as it would take you… it just wasn’t her though, not anymore and most of the time she didn’t really mind.
“Grace and poise?” Nenet repeated slowly back to him, snorting lightly in disbelief as she settled herself down on his now neatly made bed. “I promise you Seth, I won’t say anything to ruin people’s perceptions of your… oh so wonderful grace and poise.” The words were spoken dryly, a tiny hint of amusement running through them as she gave her word.

When it came to Nenet, Seth had no limits; he would throw a custard pie in his own face to try and get a smile or a laugh from her, even if only a quiet one. He would do anything for her, and she was well aware of it; he knew that. The amount of times in the past, especially during their limited period as rogues together, she had given him warning ‘don’t you dare’ glances, just knowing he would do something if it meant they moved forward in any aspect, no matter how risky it was to his own safety or well being. That was simply how he worked. It had nothing to do with being the child of the secondary pair in the pack they had been born to… nothing like that. She was Nenet, and he was Seth, and he would make her happy. It was just that simple.
“Marvellous!” he declared, arms spreading out wide with a goofy grin coming over his features. He chuckled and smirked, and then chewed his bottom lip for a moment, having enjoyed the little exchange thoroughly. “Is the Breakfast Madness over and done with yet?”

If she was being completely honest with herself and knew of it, Nenet probably would have liked to see Seth throw a custard pie in his own face, if only to see what such an act actually looked like outside of movies and TV shows. Seth worried her though, the dedication he placed on her well-being, mostly because she placed a similar amount of his. The way he would go haring off in pursuit of her happiness or safety scared her, the fear that one day she would lose him. He made her happy, nothing more.
“I have no idea,” Nenet admitted, watching his goofy grin with well concealed amusement. “I think the Breakfast Madness ends right about the time the Lunch Madness begins if I’m not completely mistaken.”

With Nenet always coming first, that having been the case for a long time now, Seth wasn’t sure what it was to be selfish; to worry more for oneself before anyone else, and frankly, he was far from eager to see what that was like. Even when they had been children, before their first change, he had ‘guarded’ Nenet; kept her protected and entertained, in any manner of ways he could concoct. It had always been that way. If it ever changed, it wouldn’t be willingly, he knew.
“Ah… once again, my friend, you have a good point.” He wagged his finger at her again, remembering randomly he had already finished brushing his teeth, and all that needed to be done was to change his clothing. “A very good point.” As he started digging through his closet, he paused to look back at her.
“What would I do without you, hmm?”
