“And as we all know, getting stuff for nothing is the best thing,” Poppy replied seriously. Even if the parents were very wealthy, making them technically well off themselves. She pretty much ignored her trust fund these days, preferring to earn her own money. Somehow it seemed that much more satisfying. Of course, it didn’t hurt that she knew there was that money to fall back on should the need demand it. Poppy wasn’t perfect after all.
“Actually, maybe without the pepperoni? I had to shelve some books today which has temporary put me off meat of any kind.” She shuddered slightly in disgust. “I swear some books need to come with warnings.” It was, partly her own fault – Poppy had opened the books herself, but still. Books didn’t need to come with such… graphic images. She only hoped Iris never had to take shots like that.

“I don’t even want an explanation,” Iris said with a shake of her head. “One large extra cheese pizza. I think I can handle that. You want any veggies on it?” For some reason, veggie pizza seemed wrong to Iris. Cheese pizza was great, but in her opinion, vegetables just didn’t belong on a nice big pizza.
In her lap, Casper had fallen asleep and gave a little sound, his paws twitching slightly. With a little smile, she reached out with her free hand and laid it over the dog, watching as he slept on uninterrupted.

“No thanks Iris. Vegetables – even on a pizza – sound just a little bit too healthy for my liking. Its cheese covered vegetables one moment and the next you are living off nothing but broiled cabbage. No thank you. Not for me.” Poppy shook her head stubbornly, a mulish look to her features. She had done the cabbage diet before – never again.
She shifted slightly in her seat, suddenly ravenous. As she had told her sister, she had eaten earlier. But right now, with the promise of pizza in the near future, it certainly didn’t feel like it. Poppy glanced over at Casper as he twitched in his sleep, probably chasing some dream cat.

Iris made a slight face at the mention of cabbage; the only way she would eat the stuff was in an eggroll. “My eating habits have rubbed off on you nicely, Pop.” She gave a grin as she finished dialing the number and tilted her head slightly as she put the phone to her ear. On the really busy nights it could sometimes feel like forever before someone actually answered the phone to take the order.
As someone picked up, Iris’s stomach rumbled rather loudly and she gave a little shrug even as she placed the order. The thought of pizza seemed to be making her even hungrier than she had started out and she found that she couldn’t wait for it to get there despite not even having gotten off the phone from ordering it yet. Once she finally did hang up though, she seemed to be hungrier than ever. “Now if they’ll just hurry up…”

Roughly 30 minutes later.
Poppy spun around the room, Casper held tightly – and safely – in her arms. She hummed lightly as she moved them both, dancing to unheard music with a small smile on her face. Dancing always made the time pass quicker for the younger Marcus sister and dancing with her sister’s dog always seemed to amuse Iris. Poppy giggled herself as she finished the dance, cuddling Casper close. “Good dog,” she murmured.
A knock sounded at the door and she let Casper jump down as she moved into the bathroom. “I’m just going to clean my hands,” Poppy called back, knowing that Iris would have to get the door. Iris had the money after all.

While Poppy had been dancing around with Casper, the little dog enjoying it as much as anyone, Iris had been sitting back after having grabbed her camera, snapping photos of the scene; she had her work camera sitting beside the door so that she could grab it easily on her way out the door in the morning and, naturally, she had a camera for personal use, which had been put to use. She was going to have to develop the photos she had taken of Poppy dancing with Casper and put them in her scrapbook. The scene had been far too entertaining not to add the photos to the book.
As Poppy headed off to wash her hands, Iris stood and went to answer the door, Casper looking around her legs as she pulled it open to reveal the pizza delivery man. He passed over the pizza box and Iris paid, making sure to tip him before stepping back and closing the door, Casper watching her expectantly as she put the pizza box on the coffee table. The little dog knew that Iris always gave him something to eat- even if he had already had his meal- whenever she sat down to whatever meal it was time for.
“Okay, handsome. Let’s go get you something to eat, too.” The dog, knowing what that meant, raced ahead of her to the kitchen.

Poppy hummed under her breath as she washed her hands, images of large cheesy pizza slices dancing around in her brain. They were taunting her with the cheesy goodness and she giggled at the thought – clearly she had spent too much time indulging her imagination if she could quite easily picture some pizza with legs, taunting her. In the manner of the French from Monty Python for some strange reason. Poppy shrugged, drying her hands on the towel before moving back into the living room.
She zeroed in on the box at once, all but skipping over to it and flipping the lid open to take a deep, appreciative sniff of the food inside. “Are you nearly ready Irish? I’m really hungry,” Poppy mock whined, wishing her sister would hurry up and feed Casper.

“Bite me, Pop,” Iris called good-naturedly from the kitchen as she filled Casper’s food bowl, checking the level of this water before washing her hands at the sink, after which she grabbed two plates and some paper napkins. “You should really learn what patience is,” she commented, putting the plates and napkins on the coffee table. “You aren’t going to starve to death in my living room.”
She picked up a plate for herself and helped herself to a large slice of the pizza. “Definitely smells good.” As if in agreement to her statement, her stomach rumbled loudly. With a grin, she picked up her slice and took a large bite. Definitely tastes good, too.

“Patience? I think I read about that once…” Poppy replied, pretending to be thoughtful as she grabbed the other plate and added a pizza slice to it. She settled herself down on the sofa next to her sister, still looking thoughtful. “Wasn’t that the thing that got outlawed in the eighties? Patience is a dangerous thing.”
She bit into the pizza with enjoyment, chewing enthusiastically and swallowing after a few seconds. Poppy all but inhaled the slice on her plate, eating it as if her very life depended on getting the pizza into her belly in the next minute or two.

“You’re going to choke eating that way,” Iris said, working on her slice much more slowly despite feeling as if she was starving. “You’re actually supposed to chew you know.” She knew that Poppy was chewing- of course she was- but Iris couldn’t resist the opportunity to pick on her baby sister a bit when the opportunity presented itself.
She had purposely ignored Poppy’s comments about patience, resisting the urge to playfully smack her in the back of the head and make some sort of joke. There were more important things to be worried about at the moment. Like making sure Poppy didn’t eat all of the pizza before she got her fair share.

Poppy mumbled a reply to Iris’s comments, the words too distorted to be understood. There were some things you just shouldn’t joke about and food was one of them. Plus if you stopped to talk then you weren’t eating and if you weren’t eating then the other person could be eating. And if the other person was eating and you weren’t… then they could be eating your share. It made perfect sense to Poppy and she just shrugged, devouring more of the pizza.
She bit into her second slice of pizza, a happy sound escaping from her as she did. Poppy loved pizza. Pizza was of the good.

She simply shook her head as a tell-tale sound interrupted their dinner. The ringing phone got a quick glare but she leaned over and grabbed it up, swallowing quickly, her partially eaten slice of pizza in her hand. “Hello?”
She was answering that was good. That meant hopefully he wasn’t interrupting anything too important – Alan wasn’t a tyrant, if his workers were busy off the clock then they had every right to not answer. “Iris, it's Alan. You busy?”
She glanced to Poppy and then to the slice of pizza in her hand. Not too busy, she supposed. “Oh, hello, sir. Not busy at all. Is there something going on?” She knew that the only reason her boss would be calling her at home would be if she was needed out on assignment.
“Nothing urgent Iris. We may be running a ‘local interest’ segment tomorrow if news is slow, about the effects of the moon, the whole crazy angle. I need some decent, non touristy shots of LA at night with the moon out. Think you’re up for it?”
An easy assignment. Nice. “I think I should be able to handle that.” She glanced to Poppy and there was no doubt in her mind that her little sister had figured out that work was being discussed. “Is ‘non-touristy’ the only description I need to keep in mind?” She knew perfectly well that the moon would need to be in as many shots as possible and she was certain that her boss would know that she knew that.
“Avoid obvious places, but at the same time I want it to be clearly LA. Oh and Iris, if you do run into a nutter… the photo isn’t worth that.” A hint of worry crept into Alan’s tone as he wondered if sending Iris alone into the dark of the city was the best idea. He worried about all his employees, and would never forgive himself if anything happened.
Iris couldn’t help the very small smile at the worry in her boss’s voice. He really did care about those who worked for him and showed it in his way, which helped to make him easily one of the best people in the city to have a job with. “Not to worry, sir. I know when I’m in over my head in a situation.” I think I’ll take something in a nice stiletto with me just in case. By stiletto, she meant heel. Many of her shoes doubled as rather nice weapons and should she end up in a situation in which a shoe wasn’t appropriate, there was always her car.
“Good, I expect to see you and your camera bright and early in the morning then,” he responded, voice growing brisk as it often did when he had just showed concern. “I know I’ll get the best from you. Bye.”
“I’ll see you in the morning then, sir. Goodbye.” She waited until she heard her boss hang up before hanging up herself and looking to Poppy. “I’ve got to go to work.”

Poppy pouted and sighed like a sulking teenage. For all that she liked Mr. Davenport – she did, really, he was a funny guy and she loved the fact he was into Superman. It made him seem that much more human. Still, he had no right to drag Iris out into the middle of the night for work. After a few seconds of her sulking, the young woman decided to change tactics. She was determined to spend some more time with her sister tonight and if Iris was going to work – so was she.
“Can I come too?” She pleaded, fixing Iris with a hopeful stare. “You’re just taking photos right? I won’t get in the way or anything. I’ll go crazy stuck here alone, and won’t be accountable for my actions. Casper and I might run away…”

Iris studied her sister for a moment. She was just going to be taking photos and she could tell Poppy to wait in the car when she stopped for a shot. It wasn’t like it was going to take long and she did want to actually spend a little time with her sister. Finally, she gave a nod. “Okay, you can come, but you stay in the car when I stop for a shot. You know that the lunatics come out at night, full moon or not, and I don’t want you getting into trouble.” She gave a little shrug. “Besides, I don’t want you running away with my dog.” Not to mention I could use the company.

It didn’t matter that Iris had given in without any real fuss, to Poppy it was a victory and should be counted as one. She grinned and scrambled to her feet, taking the plates with her. “Yay, I win,” she chirped happily even as she moved into the kitchen. Winning felt good. Poppy quickly dumped the dirty washing down, deciding it could be done at a later date.
“I’m just going to grab my coat, I’ll meet you at the car?” she suggested as she turned back towards Iris, almost bouncing on the tips of her feet as she moved. It would be good to get out of the apartment and into the fresh air. Without waiting for Iris’s response – it would only be approval after all – she vanished through the connecting door and back to her own apartment.
