Iris finished off her pizza quickly, picking up the box and taking it to the kitchen, shoving the leftovers into the refrigerator. She could have more when she got back later if she felt like it. With that done, she went to grab her coat- since she was on the job, she would continue to wear the neat navy blue pant suit she had worn to work- and, once it was on, grabbed her work camera and her purse.
“Be good, handsome,” Iris told her dog as she took her keys in hand. “I’ll be back later.” Certain that her dog would be asleep when she got back, she left the apartment, locking the door tightly behind her before heading to the garage and her car.

Iris didn’t know exactly how much sleep she had managed to get the night before, but it wasn’t nearly enough. She and Poppy had been at the police department for way too long the previous night giving her statement and talking with a sketch artist and all she wanted to do was sleep the day away. That, however, wasn’t possible and she knew it. She hadn’t slept well anyway, so there was really no point in wasting the time.
Getting up, Iris retrieved her bathrobe from the chair she kept it on and moved through the apartment to the door that separated her apartment from Poppy’s. Casper, who had been sitting on the bedroom floor just waiting for her to get up, followed after her. Not sure if Poppy was still asleep or not, Iris picked up the little dog and opened the door between the apartments, peering in to see if Poppy was in her living room. Not seeing her, Iris stepping into the other apartment, intending to see if Poppy was doing okay after their long night with the police.

As soon as she was back in her apartment, Iris went straight to the bedroom closet and pulled it open. After a quick study of her wardrobe, she chose one of her expertly tailored black pant suits and a silk lilac colored blouse. Taking out a pair of black high heels, she took everything into the bathroom.
A glance in the mirror told her that she looked terrible and she hoped that applying makeup would help to hide that fact. Otherwise, she was likely to deal with questions that she didn’t feel like answering; while she was probably going to be in that position anyway, she hoped that she would at least be able to make it through the first hour of her work day with relative ease. She doubted that she would be that lucky, but she thought that it didn’t hurt to hope.
Once she was showered, dressed, had her makeup on and her hair neat, she dropped an elastic band into her jacket pocket before moving to the living room. Gathering up her keys and cell phone, they went into her empty pocket. Locking her door, she picked up her camera bag and slung it over her shoulder like a purse before heading back to Poppy’s apartment. She would leave through her sister’s place.

As soon as she entered her apartment, Casper threw himself at her legs before dancing around her feet, wagging his tail and looking at her expectantly. She knew that the little dog was aware of the fact that she didn’t make it a habit to leave again after she came home from work unless it was with him. Well, what was about to happen would likely make him happy. Putting her things down, she pulled out her camera and made sure there was an empty memory card and fresh batteries in it, putting a couple of extras each into her jacket pocket. It would have been silly of her to go out and attempt taking photos if she didn’t have them.
With that done, she retrieved Casper’s leash and clipped it onto his collar, which excited the Pomeranian even more. “Take it easy, Casper. I don’t want you getting wrapped up in your leash.” Iris knew that the dog didn’t care what she was saying, especially with the little powder puff attempted to pull her to the door. “Okay, okay. Lets go see if we can entertain ourselves with a walk around some of the city.”
