Swinging the door shut behind her and her rather meagre possessions, Lynnette Sampson looked around the rather bland apartment, and considered her options. Sure, it was rather unwelcoming, but she had time to change that; some drapes and cushions, and maybe a throw-rug or two, and she'd have the place looking halfway-habitable in no time. The money she'd saved up through her last few jobs would help her make something of the place, so long as she didn't go nuts.
And that's item two on the agenda, I guess, she thought to herself, wrinkling her nose as her stomach growled. Getting a job. She paused, adding mentally, But before that, I guess I can order some takeout.
The landlord had been good enough to give her some basic things to help her get settled; a few takeout menus, and a local paper - that was the guy's idea of a welcome package, but hey, at least there was a crappy portable TV and an old radio to keep her entertained while she tried to get stuff squared away. Of course, she was trying, once again, to see a bright side. Then again, the real silver lining was that she'd managed to find an affordable place at all.
As she'd been heading to her new apartment, she'd detected so many scents that her head had started spinning. There was more to this building than met the eye, clearly. She'd detected vampire and werewolf both, as well as humans of all ages; and under that, the very heavy tang of blood...
Don't worry about it. You've got yourself a place, and the door locks. That's all you need.
And on top of that, it wasn't like she was unarmed. Hell, even as she shifted the weight of her backpack, she could feel her gun holster.
Okay, if I don't put some of this stuff down, I'm gonna drop it. With that, she trudged into the bedroom.

Lyn - as she preferred to be called - hadn't even so much as picked up the phone to order herself some food when something caught her attention. A door down the hall had opened and closed - she hadn't even gotten around to turning on the TV or the radio - and someone had wandered the hallway... before stopping outside of her door.
And then they knocked.
Lyn, brows knitted, took in a deep breath, putting the phone back on its hook. She let the scent that seeped under her door fill her senses, and her eyes narrowed that little bit more. A werewolf? Another werewolf - male if she wasn't mistaken - was standing outside of her door. And he'd knocked. Which implied that he wanted to... talk to her?
Wary, but at the same time curious, she moved quietly towards the door, and opened it.

Continued from: The Hallway with Lynnette
He glanced around as he entered, hazel eyes sweeping the apartment quickly before he returned his gaze to her. He didn’t actually keep company with many other werewolves; the title of ‘rogue’ fit him quite comfortably. Nick had always considered himself a ‘lone wolf,’ but he thought it could be nice to have another werewolf to talk to, even if just for a bit.
“So, how long have you been in LA?” He was being careful with his stance, both because standing a certain way helped alleviate the pain from his injuries and the fact that he had his knife in his pocket. At least I don't have the gun on me. Explaining that would suck.

"A little over a week. Gotta say, the motels around here? They suck." She checked the door was fully closed before walking away from it. She didn't lock it, because it wasn't like two werewolves couldn't handle themselves, and she didn't want to give Nick the wrong impression. "They should tear them all down or something. Sometimes, having these heightened senses is a pain in the ass, y'know?" She wrinkled her nose, and laughed softly, shaking her head. "Sorry... did you want something to drink? I don't have much, but just something to tide you over." She had been about to say 'before the food gets here', but then she remembered she hadn't even ordered.
"And what kind of takeout do you prefer? Right now, I could eat just about anything."

Nick gave a grin and nodded at the comment about the motels and heightened senses. “Yeah, I know what you mean. I stayed a motel one night before I moved in and didn’t manage to get any sleep thanks to the people in the next room and couple of drunks fighting out in the parking lot. Never mind the place smelled like it was in a sewer.”
At the offer of a drink, he shook his head. “No, thanks. I’m good for now.” He left out that he had had two beers before heading over, but he knew full well that he smelled of the stuff, which actually made him wish that he hadn’t had the drinks. “It doesn’t really matter what we have as long as you let me pay you back at least half when I’ve actually got my wallet on me. I’ll eat pretty much anything.”

The smell of the beer didn't bother her, simply because she knew he wasn't drunk. It was much more difficult for werewolves - and other supernatural creatures, for that matter - to get drunk, as she knew from personal experience. Not only that, but when out drinking with others - human others - it usually aroused suspicion when you could down roughly a dozen drinks and barely wobble when you wandered off to the ladies' room.
"Ah, a gentleman," she teased, regarding the two rather meagre armchairs that counted for seating in the apartment, and pulled a face. They may as well just sit on the floor. "I'll keep it in mind." She smiled at him, and gathered the menus, flicking through them before one caught her eye. "You like Chinese food?" As she said as much, she offered him the menu for the takeout place she had in mind.

“Hey, I try.” He paused for a moment. “Actually, no I don’t.” He grinned. “It’s just natural.” He took the menu and glanced at the name on it. “Yeah. Chinese is great.” He held up the menu. “This is actually one of the better places around here. I recommend the fried rice, teriyaki chicken and the sesame chicken. Oh, and the egg rolls. It’s just wrong to have Chinese and no egg rolls.” He offered the menu back to her. “Of course, those are just my favorites. I’ll eat pretty much anything that comes out of that place.” He chuckled. “I’ll eat pretty much anything anyway so long as it’s something that’s considered actual food.”

Lyn laughed as he reached out and took the menu. She could appreciate a good sense of humour, after all, and Nick seemed to have one, definitely. As he spoke, she wandered to the phone, and nodded her head. "It all sounds great, and I'm starving." She'd quickly memorised the number before handing him the menu, so as she stood by the phone, she dialled, and waited for someone to pick up. When he offered the menu back, she reached out and accepted it.
When they asked for her order, she requested everything that Nick had recommended, in double portions... with extra egg rolls, and some soda. Hanging up, she looked back to him. "Should be about twenty minutes." She smiled, and returned the menu to the little stack of them.
"So..." she began, turning her back on the little table near the door, and regarding him curiously, "how about you? How long have you been in LA?"

“If they say twenty, I’d put it at about thirty. They’re usually pretty busy, but it’s worth the wait.”
He tilted his head slightly as he regarded her in return. “Nearly a month. I managed to get transferred from a paper in Vegas to the Sun when it was time to pick up and move. This whole aging thing can be rough when you’ve got to hold a job to get by, but I’ve gotten to see a good bit of the country so I guess it evens out in the end.” Moving from place to place had been rough at first, but after a while it had become something that he had actually started to enjoy.

Well, if it was worth the wait, then she wouldn't mind. So long as the delivery guy wasn't miserable, then she'd give him a tip; she hated it when those guys looked ready to throw themselves under a speeding train.
"So you work for a newspaper, huh?" She endeavoured to perch herself casually on the arm of one of the chairs. These would definitely have to either be padded, or replaced; it felt like she was sitting on a plank of wood. She briefly pulled a face, and looked up at him again. "Are you a reporter, or something else?"
Lyn sympathised when he mentioned the moving around - it was one of the things that irritated her the most, really, especially if she liked the place she had to leave behind. Of course, that hadn't really ever been the case for her, so she supposed she didn't really have anything to complain about.

“Reporter,” Nick replied with a nod, seeing the face she made as she sat down. “I get all of weird stuff, like werewolf sightings and vampire attacks.” He didn’t admit to writing the articles in a way to make it seem like there were other explanations for those things. As a werewolf himself, he knew the importance of keeping their existence under wraps as much as possible. There would be a wolf hunt if word got out into the general human population that they really existed. Oh, naturally, there were some humans who knew, but most of them could be trusted to keep that fact to themselves. If not, it was less likely that others would believe a person talking to them face to face than what was written in a newspaper. “At least if I go out on those stories I don’t have to worry about someone else getting in trouble if the attacker ends up coming back.” That was also the truth. He would rather put himself out there rather than another report, especially a human one. “The vampires and some of the werewolves around here are vicious and won’t think twice about attacking someone sent out to investigate. Hell, a vampire will attack us just for being what we are, but at least if I get attacked I’ve got a chance to fight them off. Not like a human who doesn’t have a clue as to what they’re getting into.” After that, he frowned. He had made the conversation turn darker than he had intended.

The female werewolf listened, trying subconsciously to get herself comfortable on the old armchair, and failing miserably. Her face was pensive as Nick spoke, and she nodded every now and again as he made a good point here and there. He was more equipped to take care of himself than any human reporter would be, even if they got superstitious and carried around silver, or holy relics of any kind. Most humans who ‘believed’ in vampires and werewolves had too much faith in the myths and legends… and usually ended up dead one way or another.
“Well, then I guess it’s good that this paper has a wolf on their side… even if they don’t know it.” She smiled softly, glancing at him curiously and wondering if he was ever going to sit down. Lyn had noticed he had barely moved, except to follow her with his eyes, and it only served to concrete her suspicions about his being injured recently. “So… these ‘vicious werewolves and vampires’…” she began, almost cautiously, afraid of offending him. “Is that why you’re so stiff?” She quickly rephrased, “I mean, you look as though you’re uncomfortable, if you know what I mean. Were you in a fight?”
Because you sure smell like you might have been. Either that, or you’re just a very unlucky wolf.

He started to deny it; it was on the tip of tongue, but he couldn’t bring himself to start lying outright now. Instead, he nodded slightly. “Yeah. I got into something earlier that I was lucky to get out of.” He gave a wane smile, unwilling to go into it any further if he didn’t have to. “I guess that’s what I get for sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong.” He gave a shrug and immediately wished that he hadn’t, though the only sign of pain he gave this time was a muscle twitch in his jaw. “Guess that’s what got me interested in being a reporter. It’s a job that gives me an excuse to be nosy. Good news is that with the healing rate we’ve got, it won’t hurt this bad for too long.”

She wasn’t about to start calling him on any signs of pain he did or didn’t show, but she did wave towards the other chair. “These things aren’t too comfortable, but I’m sure you’re not gonna eat your food standing up in the middle of the lounge, are you?” She offered him a cheeky smile, leaning back slightly and finding, thankfully, that the back of the chair had a little more padding than the arm, at least.
“So what was it? A vampire, or another wolf?” Lyn paused. “And if I’m being too nosy, just tell me, because I won’t know if you don’t say.” She laughed softly; almost apologetically, and then sat forward again, pulling her legs up agilely to cross them under her as she balanced on the arm of the chair.

“I can eat standing up, lying down, sitting down or standing on my head. Okay, maybe not that last one, but I’ve never tried it before and I don’t intend to anytime soon.” He studied the chair for a moment and went over to it, lowering himself slowly and carefully, not answering her question about the fight until he had managed to shift around enough to find a position that didn’t cause his wounds to shoot pain through him like a thousand needles.
“You’re not being any nosier than I would be,” Nick told her honestly. “It was another werewolf, but from what I saw, he’s working with a vampire. A slave, I think, since that’s really the only reason I can think of for one of our kind taking orders from one of theirs. I spotted him leading a woman out the back door of the club and followed them. He chased her to the vampire who drained her and then decided to sic the werewolf on me. I thought I was doing fairly well until I lost hold of my transformation and changed back.” His eyes narrowed slightly at the thought of the vampire in the alleyway. She was a nasty one, that much was for certain. “Anyway, I got lucky. She had had her fill for the moment and the wolf decided that he wasn’t interested in killing right then.”
