“Can’t forget the bread,” he teased her from the counter, shaking his head as if genuinely disappointed in her mental slip. “Honestly…” Chris flashed her a rather childish grin.
“You can open your own spaghetti stand, or something. Hey, you could even sit it outside the station; it’ll be safe, and you’ll have no end of customers.” Another grin, before she offered him the spoon. He took it, setting his can of Dew off to the side, and tasted the sauce, taking a moment to consider the flavour. Eventually — after briefly considering trying his luck by saying it was awful — he nodded his head. “That’s good.”

"Good." Sarah turned off the burners and moved to the sink to strain the pasta. "Hope you're hungry, because I'm not eating all this by myself. Go start the movie while I dish this up." She started piling their dinner onto plates, listening for the ding of the oven timer that would let her know the garlic bread was ready to eat.

“That’s why they made refrigerators and microwaves,” he informed her matter-of-factly, draining the last of his soda and tossing the can at her recycling box. He listened to it clatter against the other cans in there, and watched her dish up the food. “They were invented for the storage and reheating of leftovers.” He made a low sigh of a noise as he slid off the counter, as if disappointed she hadn’t known that already.
When the oven timer went off, he glanced in its direction, and then back to Sarah, as if asking her if she wanted him to get that, or if she had it covered. He didn’t want to interfere after all.

She ignored the rhetoric about the miracles of modern technology, but when the timer sounded, Sarah glanced up, first at the oven and then at her partner. "Oh, go ahead. Pile it onto that plate sitting there, and take it over with you. I'll just add the sauce to these and be right with you."

Giving her a brief nod, Chris went about removing the bread from the oven without burning himself, and followed Sarah’s instructions. Piling the bread carefully onto the plate — again without burning himself — he headed into the living room, setting it onto the table in front of the couch, before heading back to the kitchen, careful not to get in her way.
“Want another soda?” he asked her, considering he was getting another one for himself; why not check she didn’t need a refill at the same time?

"Please," she replied distractedly, spooning the steak and sauce over the steaming pasta. "Wow, this smells really good, if I do say so myself. Here you go." She handed him a plate in exchange for the can of green happiness. "Chow down."

“Y’know,” he said as he wandered back into the living after her, food and soda can in hand, “I think you may be the only person I know who could get away with saying that.” He stifled a laugh as he claimed a cushion on the sofa.
Finding the remote without spilling his pasta, he offered it to her. She waved her hand, telling him to just press ‘Play’ for himself, so he did, lightly tossing it between them on the couch as he settled back to eat and watch the Earth blow up.

"Yeah, well, I'm all kinds of special, in case you haven't noticed." She claimed her own usual seat on the other end of the sofa, curling her legs beneath herself and digging into the spaghetti. "Oh my lord, I'm a culinary genius. This steak is amazing." She looked at the television, chewing and swallowing.
"Trillian is just so cute," she remarked. "I want to dress up as Darwin next Halloween."

He’d rolled his eyes at her saying she was special, but as always, in a good-natured way. He picked at a piece of bread as they watched, the pasta on his plate steadily thinning out as he ate it. “If you do say so yourself,” he teased, casting her a glance sidelong. Chris debated pinging a piece of the bread at her, but he didn’t want to dirty up her sofa if his aim went wide, so he resisted the urge.
“Complete with stuffed Beagle?” he asked her. “Because I’m not dressing up as a German Shepherd to tag along.”

"Well, duh," Sarah retorted. "If I dressed as Darwin and brought a German Shepherd, nobody'd know what I was supposed to be! It has to be a beagle." She laughed. "You should dress as....whoever Arthur's supposed to be. Then we'd be a matched set."

He glanced at her sceptically. “I think if I dressed like that, I’d end up killing myself before people even had a chance to laugh at me, and you know it.” He wasn’t all that big on Halloween. Sure, as a kid, he’d been a willing participant, but nowadays, he wasn’t all that keen to dress up as something or other and go to parties. It made him seem like a spoilsport, but he much preferred this sort of evening; a good movie, company he knew he wouldn’t be tempted to deck for one thing or another, and some good food.
“But I’ll buy you the Beagle, if you really want… just so you can actually go dressed like that.”

"Aren't you considerate," Sarah retorted, although she smiled. "I wonder if anyone would actually have a clue what I was supposed to be...other than you, obviously. I mean, if they saw the movie, they might figure it out, but otherwise, they'd probably have no idea." She shrugged, taking a bite of garlic bread. A moment later, she added, "Only party I go to anymore is the one at the station. I will get you there one of these years, even if I have to kidnap you in order to do it," she added teasingly.

“Well, anyone who’s ever seen this movie might have a good chance of figuring it out… if they paid attention to that part of the story, anyway.” He shrugged. “But you just said that, so…” Chris offered her a sheepish smirk.
“And you can try and get me to that party,” he said to her, turning his gaze in her direction, “but you’ll fail. And you know it.” He grinned, and grabbed his soda from the coffee table, setting his plate down in its place for a minute while he drank. “I’m fine just sitting at home watching BSU movies with a beer.” Of course, she already knew that, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t remind her again.

"Are you implying that my feminine wiles aren't sufficient to lure you to a party?" Sarah feigned shock. "I've completely lost my touch...that's it, I'm entering the convent." They shared a chuckle over that one, and not just because Sarah wasn't Catholic.
"You want some more?" she asked a few minutes later, noticing that his plate was nearing a state of emptiness. "There's still a lot out there -- figured I'd send some home with you."

“Tupperware to the rescue,” was his response as he turned his soda can in his hand, offering her a smile of sorts. “But thanks.” He wasn’t sure he could eat anything else if he tried, so he would simply accept the offer to take some home with him instead.
He looked back to the screen as Marvin made his first appearance, and Chris couldn’t help the smirk that slipped into place. If he ever met someone who had seen this movie and not loved that manic-depressed robot, he would have to seriously doubt their sanity… or perhaps, more to the point, their lack thereof.
