Trent and Calla's Apartment

[Trent]

Trent was in a mood.

To be fair, the brown haired werewolf was often in a mood, if not always. This mood however, was one of his less pleasant ones. The moon was high in the sky, its power at its peek and it called to Trent, the sweet song filling his ears. Even though he was old enough to resist the power and the sirin song, he didn’t want to.

Trent wanted to run wild, the wind in his hair. He wanted his blood to pound in him, the secret songs that only he could hear flowing through him. To run free and with Calla by his side. Thinking of Calla brought a slightly guilty look to his face, Trent pausing in his attempts to open the window – even the simplest of tasks could confuse him, leave him stumped – and looked back at the locked door.

Calla could be home any minute and she would be upset at him trying to run loose, he knew that faintly. It worried her… but the other voices, noise and ideas were drowning that out and it wasn’t long before he returned his attention to the window, giving a soft cry of delight as it finally sprung open.

Uncaring of the danger he was putting himself in, Trent pulled his body out of the window, using the drainpipe next to it to haul himself up to the roof. Then he was gone, racing across the rooftops, a giddy smile on his face, stuck mostly in his own mind.

As soon as she had the apartment door open, she knew something was wrong. If the open window wasn’t enough of an indicator, things just felt wrong. “Damn!” She took the key from the door, put the groceries down next to the door- there was nothing in the bags that would go bad if left out- and literally ran into the bedroom. She knew what she needed to do and she had to do it fast.

With Trent out on his own, there was no telling what could happen. When she was with him, she could be his voice of reason when something that wasn’t a particularly good idea seemed like one to him, but when he went out on his own… She hated having to lock him in the apartment- she never failed to feel guilty about it and Calla did not feel guilty about a lot- but it was for his own good. When the voices started in his mind, there was no telling what he might do.

She moved into the closet with a purpose, not bothering to turn on the light. Pulling out a metal box, she picked the correct key from her key ring and unlocked it. The fact that the box had still been tucked away in its hiding place and locked was a good sign. Even so, she couldn’t help the sigh of relief that came from her when she found the Colt, Desert Eagle and hunting knife all nestled safely inside. Taking the latter two, she locked the box up again and hid it, taking the weapons with her. Once back in the actual bedroom, she put her keys on her bedside table long enough to get the Desert Eagle’s holster and the knife’s sheath attached to her belt, putting the weapons in their respective places. She didn’t think she’d need either of them- she certainly hoped she wouldn’t- but she wanted them with her just in case. Snatching up the keys again, she headed back to the living room.

Grabbing her ankle length black jacket from its hook next to the door, she put it on quickly, adjusting it so that it covered the weapons, putting the keys into her pocket. There was no need to go showing them off. She locked the door quickly and strode over to the window, sticking her head out and breathing deeply, picking up the scent that she was looking for quickly. Satisfied that she had a lock on Trent’s scent, she swung herself out the window and set off after him.

Once the apartment door was shut behind them, Calla took off her jacket and put it on its hook, locking the door before digging her keys and jewelry out of her pocket. “I’m just going to go put my stuff up and then I’ll start dinner.” By ‘stuff’, Calla meant her weapons. She would make sure to grab the bag of groceries still beside the door before she headed into the kitchen. After all, she was going to need the pasta… “You can go take a shower if you want or just get comfortable and do… whatever you feel like.” She nuzzled him affectionately before heading to their bedroom to put the weapons back in their box and her jewelry on her bedside table.

[Trent]

He watched her walk off, a fond smile on his face. Just being back in their apartment, where everything was safe and understandable, that could keep him calm and grounded of sorts. He seemed to have forgotten that only a short while ago he had been frantic to get away from here – but of course, Calla hadn’t been with him then.

After a few moments, he turned and headed for the bathroom, pulling his baggy shirt off as he did so. Idly he played with a raised scar on his forearm, tracing the curling pattern as it weaved around and around his skin, a example of a time when he had tried to cut things out of himself. He might have succeeded too, except Calla found the knife and got upset and Trent didn’t like it when she got upset. He entered the bathroom, still touching the self inflicted scar, heading for the shower.

Once the weapons were again safely locked away in their box, Calla went back to the living room, gathered the groceries she had bought earlier and took them to the kitchen. Emptying the bags was a simple, quickly accomplished task and, once she was satisfied, she went about pulling out the pans and other things that she would need.

Knowing that she had heard Trent enter the bathroom, Calla felt that she could go about cooking dinner without too much worry. He had seemed to be doing better on their way back home from the park, but she still listened for any sounds that might tell her that she was needed. It was a natural thing for her to do, just as it was natural for her to worry about him a bit more than she imagined other females worried about their mates. Not that Calla actually minded, though. If she hadn’t wanted to take care of Trent, hadn’t wanted to do what she could to help him, she never would have turned him in the first place.

[Trent]

“Keep the secret, don’t tell,” Trent giggled lightly, lifting his arm and pressing his palm flat again the glass, watching the heat of the water steam up the already cloudy glass. He stared in awe at his own hand, the fingers sprayed out, as if he had never seen his own limb before.

“I can see you, burning alone in time, never to be heard…” he rambled quietly to himself, reasonably content at the moment, even if his words were on a less than pleasant topic. Slowly, he started to wash, turning his face up against the spray, mouth opening to catch a few of the drops as he did. He bit at the air, amused at his game. “Rain drops keep falling on my head…”

It didn’t take long for Calla to get dinner going, so soon, she found herself simply putting things away again, clearing the countertops of what she had used before wiping them down. She liked a clean, well ordered kitchen to work with. After all, a tidy kitchen was far more conductive to cooking than unorganized one. Once satisfied with the state of the kitchen, she gave a little nod and moved back to the stove in order to check on everything- turn the chicken, mix up the sauce, swirl the pasta.

Though her attention seemed to be solely on what she was currently doing, she was still listening carefully for any signs that Trent might need her. She knew that he was perfectly capable of taking a shower without any disasters befalling him, but that didn’t mean that she was about to stop paying attention.

[Trent]

He leant against the side of the shower, slowly sliding down the wall and keeping his face turned upwards against the spray. At the moment it was a reasonable temperature, allowing him to bask in the water, to sit on the floor and let it all wash over him. Trent had finished washing himself and his hair a few moments previously and was now taking the time to indulge in some pleasure of his own. He loved the feel of water, cleaning him and washing away his sins – even if they always came back later.

Trent knew he should get out of the shower before Calla got worried and before the food was cooked, but he couldn’t quite bring himself to move. He was safe in the shower, the little box protecting him from everything bad in the world; so long as he stayed in it.

With dinner settled for now, she thought about going and changing for bed. As far as she knew, they wouldn’t be leaving again that night and she saw no reason not to go ahead and change. At least then she wouldn’t need to do that later.

Deciding that that sounded like a good idea, she moved into the bedroom and changed quickly into the flannel, dark violet pajama pants and white tank top that she slept in, pulling her soft gray bathrobe on. With that done, she gathered up her discarded clothes and folded them neatly, putting them in a basket that she kept next to the dresser to be filled with what needed to be washed. Putting her shoes in their place in the closet, she padded barefoot out of the bedroom, closing and belting the bathrobe around her. Tucking hair behind her ears, she went back to the kitchen to check on dinner, frowning slightly as she found herself thinking that Trent had been in the shower for quite a while.

[Trent]

He laughed slightly, a mixture of his sadly all too frequent hysterical laugher and also the more normal laugh that signified his pure pleasure at things. In some cases, Trent was little more than a child, finding happiness in the oddest, smallest and simplest of things and sitting, letting the warm water wash over him was one of them. He felt… almost normal for a few moments.

Trent was even lucid enough to realise he’d forgotten to bring a change of clothing into the bathroom with him. He hated moving around without clothes when he was aware of himself enough to know he did those things, sometimes hated knowing Calla could see his bare skin and as a result the few scars that were littered across his body – he couldn’t remember her yelling at him except for that one night she had found the knife.

“Out, out damned spot…” carefully he bowed his head, tracing the last of the silver scars, the one she had caught him doing that crossed over his heart.

Deciding that it had definitely been too long since Trent had gone in to take a shower, she checked everything again quickly before going to the bathroom and rapping twice on the door. “Trent? Is everything okay in there?” She sounded perfectly calm, but she shifted where she stood, obviously simply needing some reassurance that everything was well. Tilting her head, she pressed her lips together lightly as she waited for a response. If one wasn’t forthcoming in what she felt was a reasonable amount of time, she would simply have to intrude on the privacy she tended to give Trent when he was in the bathroom.

[Trent]

Trent lifted his head from the study of his scars, Calla sounding far away and almost echoing. He frowned slightly, realising that even the water drops from the shower head was starting to sound distant, again echoing. But he didn’t feel like panicking about that fact, and simply sighed lightly, a small smile curling on his lips. “I’m fine Calla,” he called back, dropping his head back down to watch the pale thin scar on his chest, the twirling pattern that showed time had gone into its design.

“I’ll be out in a few moments… could you get me a change of clothing please?” he added, knowing that he really needed to move still, even if he currently felt drained of all energy.

[Callandra]

Calla visibly relaxed when she heard Trent reply and couldn’t stop the small smile of relief that came to her face. She really was quite the worrier where he was concerned…

“Of course I can,” she called back in response to his question. “Is there anything specific you want or would you like me to just pick something for you?” She had found that it was always best to ask this particular question in regards to just about anything if he asked her to get him something, especially when there were choices. Calla knew that he usually didn’t care, but occasionally he would want something in particular and she really did like to get him whatever he wanted when she could.

[Trent]

“I don’t mind, the stars above can’t see in homes, don’t know our faces. They can’t tell what we wear, only what we are inside. I want what you want, what you like, because you see my face no matter how much I try and hide in shame. You bring me out and make it alright…” Just speaking seemed to sap his energy even further and Trent slid down the wall some more, until he was lying on the floor of the shower, letting the water cover him.

It was true what he said, Calla made him alright. Just be being with him, by existing she made it alright and he felt that for her, he could conjure up some energy from the unknown to move. And there was food waiting out there for him. Food was always good.

[Callandra]

Calla gave a silent nod and went to the bedroom, taking Trent’s sleeping clothes from the dresser drawer they were kept in. Going back to the bathroom, she gave a gentle knock and said, “I’m going to come in and put your things next to the sink.” With that said, she opened the door and moved inside, putting his things down. “It won’t be much longer until dinner is ready, love, though you still have a bit of time if you want to stay in the shower a few minutes more.” That done, she moved out of the bathroom, closing the door behind her and going back to the kitchen in order to check on the progress of their dinner.
